Diablo 4 , Game Guides
Diablo 4 Season 7 is set to launch this January 21 and we’re sure you’re excited. While there are many things set to arrive in the next season, we know you’re mainly excited about the Diablo 4 Season 7 class updates. How will the meta change this coming season and what classes are at the top?

The class changes are good and all but for extra preparation, make sure to check out our D4 store. We’ve got great deals on gold and other items so that you don’t have to grind too hard.
Barbarian
The Barbarian in Season 7’s PTR showed up quite solidly. We’re happy with where the Barbarian landed in this iteration, and there’s a lot to be excited about, especially when it comes to the Hammer of the Ancients and the Earthquake build, which we’ll dive into shortly.
These builds are shaping up to embody the raw, destructive power you’d expect from the Barbarian class.
Hammer of the Ancients Buffs
The Hammer of the Ancients build has received some numerical buffs. While we were already pleased with its performance, we thought it could use a little extra boost to truly shine. These adjustments are meant to help Hammer of the Ancients stand out as a viable and competitive option.
Whirlwind Build Adjustments
Similarly, Whirlwind has been given some love. This build was falling behind in comparison to other Barbarian setups, and these buffs aim to bring it back in line with its peers. We expect these changes to give Whirlwind the edge it needs to be a strong choice for those who prefer that relentless spinning devastation.
On the whole, the Barbarian is looking incredibly strong heading into Season 7. With these improvements, it’s a powerhouse class that should feel satisfying and effective to play. Whether you’re a veteran Barbarian player or someone considering the class for the first time, there’s a lot to look forward to.
New Unique Item: Mantle of the Mountain
One of the highlights for Barbarians this season is the introduction of the Mantle of the Mountain, a new unique item that brings a seismic twist to the Hammer of the Ancients playstyle.
This item empowers your Hammer of the Ancients ability by creating a seismic line upon impact. If that line hits, it triggers an Earthquake that deals massive damage and causes a fiery explosion.

The visual and mechanical synergy of this item is outstanding. Watching those earthquakes ripple across the battlefield, followed by fiery explosions, is pure Barbarian fantasy at its best. It’s the perfect item to bring out what this class is all about: smashing things with massive weapons and leaving a trail of destruction in your wake.
With the Mantle of the Mountain, you also gain a chance to deal double damage with your attacks. This ramps up the already brutal effectiveness of Hammer of the Ancients, turning it into a spectacle of ground-shaking, weapon-wielding chaos.
Imagine smashing the ground with the force to not only deal catastrophic damage but amplify it tenfold—it's everything you’d want from a Barbarian build and more.
As we look forward to how Barbarians perform in the Season of the Witchcraft, all signs point to them being a strong and reliable option.
Whether you’re leaning into the Hammer of the Ancients build, the revamped Whirlwind, or exploring other synergies, the class is in an excellent spot. These updates have given Barbarians the tools to dominate and leave their mark in the coming season.
Sorceress
The Sorceress was by far the weakest class on the PTR. There’s no sugarcoating it. The adjustments made going into this season seemed to overshoot the mark, pulling the Sorceress down more than we’d hoped.
Changes to Conjuration and Burning bonuses did achieve the goal of enhancing build variety, but unfortunately, the overall power level of the class suffered as a result.
To remedy this, they’re introducing buffs primarily aimed at the passive effects for the Sorceress. The idea is to elevate the class’s numbers just slightly across the board to bring it back to a competitive state.
These adjustments should help close the gap between the Sorceress and other classes without undoing the strides made in build diversity.
Searing Heat and Icefall Changes
One significant update involves the Searing Heat and Icefall legendary Paragon nodes. Previously, these nodes were highly build-specific, meaning they only worked well in very particular setups, such as burning-focused builds for Searing Heat.
We’ve tweaked these nodes to maintain their potency in their intended builds while also making them more broadly applicable across all damage types and builds. This flexibility should give Sorceress players more options without sacrificing performance.
Firebolt Enchantment Updates
We’ve also made updates to the Firebolt Enchantment, which was a staple but often underwhelming in its previous form.
Now, dealing burning damage while using this enchantment not only grants a chance to heal for a portion of your maximum life—something it already did—but also unleashes a bonus Firebolt onto a nearby enemy.

As you can see in this update, burning enemies randomly fire extra Firebolts at nearby foes, adding a chain-like effect. This change is designed to make the Firebolt Enchantment feel more impactful and allow it to shine, particularly when dealing with large enemy packs.
Watching those bonus Firebolts zip across the battlefield adds a new layer of excitement and utility to the burning playstyle.
Strike of Storm Horn
One of the exciting new unique items this season is the Strike of Storm Horn, which modifies your lightning abilities in an electrifying way.
This unique sometimes generates Super Ball Lightnings that fire straight ahead at an increased speed and then explode for massive damage while also stunning enemies. It’s like a bowling strike—you set it up, and the payoff is a spectacular display of devastation.
Okan’s Catalyst
Another standout unique this season is Okan’s Catalyst, designed to further enhance the Ball Lightning playstyle. With this focus, Ball Lightnings will orbit around you, dealing consistent damage to nearby enemies.
This unique encourages a more up-close and action-packed playstyle, where you’re in the thick of the fight, letting the orbiting Ball Lightnings chip away at surrounding foes.

What’s particularly exciting about these additions is the way they create distinct playstyle choices. Strike of Storm Horn offers a long-range, explosive approach to Ball Lightning, while Okan’s Catalyst focuses on a close-range, sustained damage style.
These paired uniques are designed to be mutually exclusive, meaning you can’t equip both at once, but that exclusivity allows each to fully embrace its unique fantasy.
The design philosophy here is to give players the freedom to lean into their preferred style while making the decision feel meaningful. Both items amplify the Ball Lightning experience, but in very different ways.
While Strike of Storm Horn maximizes the spectacle of massive, explosive blasts, Okan’s Catalyst delivers a more intimate, transformative Ball Lightning experience with its orbiting effect.
The Sorceress has struggled on the PTR, but these changes aim to bring it back to life. With buffs to passives, flexible Paragon nodes, and exciting new uniques, the class is set to offer a range of competitive and fun options in Season 7.
Druid
The Druid on the Season 7 PTR had its ups and downs, including one glaring issue—a bugged build tied to one of its legendary Paragon nodes. This bug caused damage scaling to go far beyond intended levels, even breaking the game in some cases and resulting in negative damage numbers.

Obviously, that wasn’t what we had in mind, so the bug has been fixed. Despite this hiccup, we’re confident that the Druid is in a solid spot overall, even without the unintended benefits of that bug.
Blurred Beast Aspect Rework
The Blurred Beast aspect underwent significant reworks during the PTR. Initially, it wasn’t as engaging as we’d hoped, so we’ve gone back to the drawing board to refine it further. The new rework is aimed at improving Shred builds for Werewolf Druids.
On the PTR, the aspect triggered bonus strikes based on how far you traveled, but this mechanic fell flat in terms of fun and effectiveness.
Now, Shred always has a chance to land additional strikes, with the randomness rolled four times. If you get lucky with your rolls, Shred can hit a target multiple times in rapid succession, delivering on the fast, ferocious fantasy of the Werewolf Druid.
This updated mechanic adds a layer of excitement and intensity to the gameplay, and it pairs beautifully with the visuals created by the art team.
Spirit Boon Updates
The Spirit Boons, the unique Druid class mechanic, also received significant updates. Historically, Spirit Boons have lagged behind in terms of utility, but this patch brings big buffs to make them much more powerful.
One standout update is the Gift of the Stag, which now provides passive Spirit generation every second.
This improvement is a game-changer for the early game, where Druids have often struggled to get their resource engines running.
Druids are known to be one of the slower classes in the early stages of the game, but these updates to Spirit Boons will smooth out their resource management, making them feel much more fluid and competitive from the start.
The Spirit Boon changes aren’t just a minor tweak—they’re a deliberate effort to tackle the resource generation challenges that Druids have faced early on. With passive Spirit generation now more accessible, Druids can focus on unleashing their abilities without constantly running out of resources.
This quality-of-life improvement should make the early game experience much more enjoyable for players, setting Druids up for success as they progress.
Visual and Gameplay Synergy in Blurred Beast
Let’s talk more about the reworked Blurred Beast aspect. The updated mechanic ensures Shred always has a chance for additional strikes, with an added touch of luck for even more hits. This is a fantastic way to emphasize the Werewolf’s identity as a fast, relentless attacker.
The synergy between the mechanic and the visuals is stunning—extra strikes not only feel impactful but look incredible in action.
The art team has done a phenomenal job of making these mechanics come alive visually. When the additional strikes land, it’s a feast for the eyes, elevating the satisfaction of playing a Shred-focused build.
Rogue
The Rogue on the PTR was already in a strong position. Shadow, Rain of Arrows, and other builds were not just viable but incredibly powerful. With the new changes, Rain of Arrows gained scaling damage that pushed it to the top tier.
However, to balance things out, we’ve slightly reduced the scaling for this ability as part of broader adjustments to ultimate skills across the board. Even with these changes, Rain of Arrows remains a compelling choice, and Rogue ultimate abilities are well-positioned for success in the new season.

Shadow Clone Overhaul
One of the most exciting updates this season is the rework to Shadow Clone, which finally gets its moment in the spotlight. Shadow Clone now benefits from all your damage bonuses, procs, and legendary effects, making it feel like a true extension of your character.
Previously, Shadow Clone felt lackluster because it didn’t interact fully with your build’s modifiers. Now, whether you’re running Flurry with the Aspect of Encircling Blades or other legendary aspects, your Shadow Clone mirrors the full effect of those skills.
For example, with the Aspect of Encircling Blades, Flurry now deals area-of-effect damage around both you and your Shadow Clone. Similarly, Twisting Blades with the Blade Dancer’s Aspect will cause blades to return and orbit around you and your Shadow Clone, creating a beautiful synergy of deadly strikes.
This update essentially gives Shadow Clone the tools it needed to truly shine. It no longer feels like a basic copy of your character—it’s a powerhouse in its own right, mirroring your legendary effects and amplifying your damage potential.
Seeing the reworked Shadow Clone in action is a treat. Watching Flurry with the Aspect of Encircling Blades carve massive areas around both you and your clone is incredibly satisfying.
Twisting Blades coming back to orbit around your Shadow Clone adds another layer of chaotic elegance. The Rogue’s ability to seamlessly combine utility, speed, and damage is fully realized with this update.
Necromancer
The Necromancer was arguably the class that benefitted the most from a bug in the PTR. This bug was tied to the scaling of ultimate skills, particularly Army of the Dead, where stats were unintentionally double-dipping during calculations.
This interaction resulted in damage numbers far beyond what was intended, even breaking the game in some instances. Naturally, we’ve addressed this bug to ensure balance moving forward.
Summons Update
While Shadow Clone saw significant improvements, Necromancers—being the quintessential summons class—received some of the most impactful updates this season.
All of your summons, including Skeletons and Golems, will now interact more consistently with lucky hit procs, bonus damage effects, and any modifiers that enhance your damage output.
These changes ensure that your minions scale with your character’s power more effectively, making the summon-focused Necromancer a peak performer in Season 7.
This is a massive win for minion builds, and as one developer said, minion stomps are definitely up this season.
Blood Wave and New Unique Items
Much like the Sorcerer, the Necromancer is receiving exciting new uniques that synergize with its legendary ultimate skill, Blood Wave. Let’s dive into these new items and their impact.
This unique modifies Blood Wave in a strategic way. The wave still flies forward, but when it reaches its endpoint, it traps enemies in a Bone Prison. Additionally, this unique transforms Bone Spear into a Blood skill, turning it into Blood Spear.
This item promotes incredible synergy between Blood and Bone builds. Casting Bone Spear reduces the cooldown of Blood Wave, enabling you to set up a loop of trapping enemies with Bone Prison, following up with Blood Spear, and reducing Blood Wave’s cooldown for consistent deployment.
This unique alone brings the Blood and Bone fantasy to life, offering immense tactical options.
If Indra’s Memory represents a ranged playstyle, Cmi’s Legacy is its melee-focused counterpart.
Instead of sending one Blood Wave forward, this unique causes two waves to crash in from both sides, pulling enemies toward you and delivering a massive pulse of damage at the center.
This transformation completely changes how you approach combat. Rather than pushing enemies away, you’re pulling them in close, encouraging a brawler-style melee Necromancer build.
The way you position yourself becomes critical, as you aim to group enemies tightly and unleash devastating close-range attacks.
These two unique items make Blood Wave highly versatile, allowing it to cater to both ranged and melee Necromancer builds, depending on your preferred playstyle.
The synergy between these uniques and other Blood or Bone abilities is outstanding. Indra’s Memory shines in a tactical, ranged playstyle, where you’re setting traps and unleashing high-damage combos from a distance.
Meanwhile, Cmi’s Legacy brings an aggressive, close-quarters combat style to the forefront, pulling enemies in for devastating area-of-effect damage.
This duality ensures that Blood Wave can fit into a variety of builds, providing options for every type of player.
Spiritborn
The Spiritborn class received some targeted adjustments on the PTR to address bugged interactions that caused their damage to scale far beyond intended levels. In addition to these fixes, a handful of nerfs were applied across the board to bring the class more in line with others.
However, even with these changes, Spiritborn proved to be an exceptionally strong class, arguably still the strongest heading into Season 7.
Minimal Changes to Maintain Balance
Instead of heavily adjusting Spiritborn, the focus for this patch was to bring other classes up to its level. As a result, Spiritborn saw minimal numerical adjustments, leaving the class largely unchanged.
This reflects the development team’s confidence in its balance and current performance. Spiritborn players can rest assured that their class remains a top-tier contender in the new season.
The Razor Wings Build
One standout for Spiritborn in Season 7 is the Razor Wings build, which gets a significant boost thanks to a new unique item and legendary aspect.
Sunstained War Creer Unique
The Sunstained War Creer is a new unique item designed to elevate focus-based builds. Its key effect allows all focus skills to automatically benefit from their upgrades, eliminating the need to invest additional skill points.
Moreover, casting these focus skills increases the damage of your potency skills, including Razor Wings.
This unique item ensures a seamless synergy between focus and potency skills, amplifying the damage potential of Razor Wings without requiring complicated setups. For players who enjoy precise, impactful builds, this item is a game-changer.

Aspect of Endless Talons
The Aspect of Endless Talons further enhances the Razor Wings build. With this legendary aspect, Razor Wings benefits from increased power and utility, allowing it to perform as a top-tier potency skill.
These changes bring Razor Wings to the forefront, addressing its previously underrepresented role in the current season’s meta.
Razor Wings in Action
In the clip showcasing this updated build, the synergy between Sunstained War Creer and Razor Wings was evident. Casting focus skills empowered Razor Wings to deliver devastating, boomerang-like attacks, showcasing the potential for massive area damage and smooth gameplay. The enhanced mechanics make Razor Wings a more accessible and rewarding option for Spiritborn players.
