OSRS Tree Gnome Village Quest Guide

OSRS Tree Gnome Village is one of the first quests that all players should complete. It is a good way to boost your account's early game journey by unlocking a beneficial transportation system, gaining some attack experience, and unlocking quests such as the Monkey Madness 1 quest. Before You Start

Requirements

  • Capable of defeating a level 112 Khazard warlord

  • 6 regular logs (you can get an axe during the quest by defeating goblins in the Tree Gnome Village maze)

Kickoff

  1. Find King Bolren within Tree Gnome Village and initiate the quest. You'll be guided out of the maze. (Select dialogue option 1-1)
  2. Locate Commander Montai (wearing red) at the battlefield's south-western edge, below the river. (Select dialogue option 1)
  3. Speak with him again and provide the 6 logs
  4. Have another conversation with him (Select dialogue option 2) [clear all checks]

Locating the Trackers

  1. Visit the eastern Khazard Stronghold and find the second tracker inside a building
  2. Search for the first tracker near the stronghold's northwestern area
  3. Find the third tracker patrolling the stronghold's southwestern section. Listen carefully to his clues about the ballista coordinates:

"Less than my hands" = 0001

"More than my head less than my fingers" = 0002

"More than we, less than our feet" = 0003

"My legs and your legs" = 0004

Head to the ballista (southwest battlefield, across the bridge) and input the sequence from the third tracker.

Retrieving the Orbs

  1. Journey north to the stronghold (where you met Tracker 1) and scale the broken wall
  2. Kill or ignore the Khazard commanders
  3. Climb upstairs, check the chest, and grab the first orb of protection
  4. Exit through the main entrance
  5. Return to the village and speak with Elkoy who'll take you through the maze
  6. Chat with King Bolren about retrieving the remaining orbs (Choose option 1)
  7. Locate and battle the Khazard warlord south of the underground pass to obtain the final orbs

Tip: To safely defeat the warlord, start combat and move westward until he loses interest near the large dead tree. Position yourself slightly south and attack from beyond his reach using ranged or magic attacks. This will force him into a position between the West Ardougne wall and northern dead tree, allowing safe attacks.

Melee users can also find safety by repeatedly stepping in and out of his movement range. There's a good spot next to the large skull in the south.

Return to the village and talk to the King.

Getting Started

King Bolren in the Tree Gnome Maze

Your adventure begins by finding King Bolren nestled in the Tree Gnome Maze's center. He will explain how the Khazard forces stole 3 sacred orbs, and they need to retrieve them. Accept his request for help, and Elkoy will show you the way out.

Finding the Trackers

Battlefield and tracker locations

What you'll need: 6 regular logs

As you venture north of the maze, you'll encounter a battlefield. Look for Commander Montai - he's the one in red clothing. He needs 6 logs to strengthen their defenses. After providing them (either bring your own or bank quickly - killing goblins for an axe takes much longer), he'll mention three missing trackers who were sent to gather vital information.

The tracker locations are spread across several buildings north of the battlefield:

  • The first tracker is hiding near the largest structure in the northwestern area.
  • The second is imprisoned in a cell within the northeastern building.
  • The third is wandering near the stronghold's southwestern corner.

Each tracker holds crucial information:

  • Trackers one and two will share straightforward coordinates.
  • The third tracker, driven slightly mad, speaks in riddles that you'll need to decode. He gives clues like:
    • "Less than my hands" translates to 1
    • "More than my head less than my fingers" means 2
    • "More than we but less than our feet" equals 3
    • "My legs and your legs" represents 4

Make your way to the ballista (not to be confused with the catapult by Montai) in the battlefield's southwestern corner. Input the numbers you've gathered from the third tracker's riddles. Keep trying if you miss - persistence is key.

Retrieving the Orbs

Once you've successfully hit your target, check back with Commander Montai. Then head north to infiltrate the stronghold where you found the first tracker. Scale the crumbled wall to get inside.

Warning for lower-level players: After climbing the wall, there's a brief moment where you can't heal while being attacked. This can be dangerous if you're not prepared.

Inside, you'll face level 48 Khazard commanders. They're not too tough with just 22 hitpoints (you can avoid them by hiding behind the broken chair in the north). Make your way to the western room and climb up.

Upstairs you'll encounter another commander. Either defeat him or dash to the chest to claim the orb of protection. Once you have it, make a quick escape down the ladder and out through the nearby exit.

Head to the maze's northwestern entrance where Elkoy can guide you through. Once inside, speak with King Bolren, who'll reveal the last two orbs are in possession of the Khazard Warlord.

Important Note: Don't challenge the warlord until after this conversation - the orbs won't drop if you do!

The Final Battle

What you'll need:

  • Your best combat gear
  • Quality healing food
  • Choose between close combat or ranged strategy

Exit the village and travel north past the stronghold where you found the first orb. Follow the West Ardougne wall westward until you spot two Khazard troopers and their level 112 warlord. Despite his impressive 170 HP, he's not too threatening if you're wearing decent armor.

Combat Tips:

  • Players with rune equipment and a rune scimitar should manage fine.
  • Bring lobsters or better for healing.
  • Magic and ranged work well from a distance.
  • The warlord can be flinched by attacking and stepping back west repeatedly.
  • Don't take too long or he'll vanish, forcing a restart.

Combat Strategies

Combat Strategies for Khazard Warlord

Ranged Method: Initiate combat and move west until he loses aggression near the large dead tree. Attack from a safe distance to force him into a position between the wall and tree.

Melee Method: Use the large skull to the south as your safe spot, stepping in and out of his range to land hits safely.

After victory, collect the orbs and return them to King Bolren. You'll witness a celebration as the orbs are restored to their rightful place on the sacred spirit tree.
