Best OSRS Quests For Beginners

The quests below are chosen for a few reasons. For one, they unlock some important skills you'll need for your OSRS journey. Another reason is that you'll need these quests for some neat rewards that will serve as a good start to your game.

1. Cook's Assistant

Cook's Asssistant is iconic in many ways but the biggest thing we can say about it is that it's the very first quest launched for the game. It serves as an introduction to questing in the game. There's no escaping doing this quest as it's a part of every player's early adventure through Gielinor.

Make sure to enjoy and understand each part of this quest well as it teaches you the core loop behind questing in OSRS. This will serve as a foundation for every quest that you'll do moving forward.

How to Start:

Talk to the Cook in the kitchen on the ground floor of Lumbridge Castle.

Runecrafting is going to be a big part of the game, especially if you plan on being a Mage. It's also one of the more complex abilities in the game. The good news is that Rune Mysteries provides everything that you need to know about the skill.

Runecrafting remains one of the most vital skills in the game right now so it's imperative that you do Rune Mysteries as soon as possible.

4. Ernest the Chicken

One of the hardest things to do at the start of the game is getting money. With this short quest, you're getting 400 coins immediately. This is a good capital for you to get more items that you may need at the start of your journey. Plus, it's a pretty fun quest too, making it worth the time and effort.

5. Vampire Slayer

This is one of the first “hard” combat quests that you'll do in the game. That said, it's a great introduction for what's to come. While the fights here aren't that hard, they're still more than enough to help you learn the ropes when it comes to fighting in OSRS.

You can get into fights even before this quest but this is the first one that will require a bit more effort and work on your end.

How to Start

Talk to Morgan in a house just east of the Draynor Village bank.

6. The Restless Ghost

This quest is important simply because of the Ghostspeak amulet. This is an important accessory that lets you talk to the dead. It opens up a lot of opportunities for lore, more quests, and even more challenges in the game.

As with most of the quests on this list, this isn't particularly hard but it does give you a bit more of a challenge as the steps are more complicated than other startup quests.

How to Start

Talk to Father Aereck in the Lumbridge Church, just east of the castle.

The quest serves as the introduction to the Magic skill, making it very important if you want to start maxing out every combat skill in the game. It's basically a tutorial of how you can use Magic in the game. As an added bonus, you're also getting a good amount of Magic XP.

The recommended items here are probably in your inventory already unless you skipped out on doing the first initial quests. Either way, they're easy to find.

8. Waterfall Quest

The Waterfall quest is one of the first lengthy quests that you'll do in the game. The combat here is more challenging than in Vampire Slayer making it another good stepping stone for what's to come in the future.

The hard part here is readying the runes that you'll be needing as a recommended item for the quests, but if you've done Rune Mysteries, this should be easy.

How to Start

Talk to Almera in her house northwest of Baxtorian Falls, west of the Tree Gnome Stronghold. You must be a member to participate in this quest.

Tree Gnome Village also introduces some complex Ranged combat sequences so it's a good start to help you understand this combat style.

How to Start

Talk to King Bolren in the Tree Gnome Village, which can be accessed by squeezing through the maze south of Ardougne. You must be a member to start this quest.

Check out this beginner's guide we have for OSRS. This is sure to tie up any loose ends that you might have after reading this guide.

FAQs

What are the best beginner quests to start with in OSRS?

Ideally, you'd want to look for quests that offer easy rewards and that have low requirements. The more rewards you unlock early on, the easier you'll progress throughout the game. The 10 quests we suggested above are great starts for any beginner in OSRS so make sure to check them out. These quests offer easy requirements, fast rewards, and help unlock useful content for new players.

Do beginner quests in OSRS require combat?

Some, but not all, require combat, so that means they're relatively safe to do. Even if there is combat in the quests, you shouldn't expect them to be too hard as they're going to be just around your level for a beginner. Combat difficulty will slowly ramp up as you progress through the game.

Can I complete beginner OSRS quests as a free-to-play (F2P) player?

Yes, actually, a lot of the quests we've stated above are available to beginners. Most of the beginner friendly quests in OSRS are for F2P players. Some of those questds include Cook's Assistant, Romeo and Juliet, and Restless Ghost. These quests provide a good feel of whether or not getting a paid membership is good for you.

Are there any OSRS quests that boost early combat stats?

Yes, Waterfall Quest, Fight Arena, and Vampyre Slayer give large amounts of Attack or Strength XP without requiring high stats. These quests are also very easy to do and are highly recommended for getting a huge combat boost early on in the game.

What quest items should I keep during early quests?

Keep teleport items, food, and armor; also hold onto quest-specific items like ghostspeaks amulets or gnome balls if reused. There are some early game items that are going to be very helpful even later on in the game. Make sure to consult guides or other players to know whether an item is worth keeping.
