Blog Introduction: Lord Drakan is the ultimate challenge in The Blood Moon Rises quest, boasting 3,000 HP and unforgiving, Dark Souls-style combat mechanics. Our guide breaks down his complex swing patterns, phase transitions, and the free supply setups needed to survive this brutal final boss battle.

The new grandmaster-level quest, The Blood Moon Rises, is upon us. It brings along a new area, new skilling activities, slayer creatures, and a new boss, Maggot King, but to access all this juicy new content, you must first complete the Blood Moon Rises quest. Completing this quest, however, is no easy feat as you will need to go up against the strongest vampyre in Gielinor. The final boss of this quest, Lord Drakan, has 3000 HP, and the fight plays like a Dark Souls boss, which makes it impossible to kill Lord Drakan without learning how to handle all of the mechanics. In this guide, we will explain all of Lord Drakan's mechanics and phases so you can finish this quest and get your hands on the rewards.

Gear & Stat Recommendations

This boss is the hardest quest boss that has ever been released on OSRS, and as such, it is advisable to have high offensive stats to keep the fight as short as possible. The quest's recommended combat level is 110, but you can kill this boss with lower-level accounts if you can manage the mechanics. That being said, here is what we recommend:

  • 90+ Strength
  • 78 Defence
  • 70 Prayer
  • 90+ Attack

Gear

OSRS Lord Drakan gear setup

Since Lord Drakan is a vampyre the best weapon to use against him is the new Hallowed Flail, which you acquire during the quest. This flail deals slashing damage, so the best gear should look like this:

The gear above is costly, but it is absolutely recommended against the final boss of this quest. If you lack the GP to buy the gear above, you can check out our OSRS Gold Store to buy fast and secure gold. Also if you lack any untradable upgrades such as the infernal cape, you can use our OSRS Services page to have our professionals get them for you.

Supplies

OSRS Lord Drakan supply chest

For this boss fight, you don’t need to bring any supplies, as there is a supply chest right outside the boss room, which can be used to get an infinite amount of supplies. Whenever you die, you don’t lose any items; you just spawn right outside the boss room with all your gear, which allows you to try again right away. From the supply chest, take the following supplies:

  • 2-4 chunky potions (Depending on your Prayer level)
  • 1 Combat potion
  • 2 meat (save these for the final phase)
  • 1 jar of congealed blood (save this for the final phase)
  • Fill the rest of your inventory with slimy potions

Dodging Mechanic

The main attack Lord Drakan will constantly use requires you to dodge correctly. If you fail to dodge, you will always take damage, regardless of your prayer and armor. Lord Drakan has 5 different swings, which require different inputs from you to dodge. There are also two additional attacks during phase changes that you will need to dodge as well.

Dodging is simply done by clicking on the right tile at the right time. Let’s talk about how you can identify where you need to click.

Right and Left Swing

These are the most common and basic swings of Lord Drakan. The logic behind dodging these is pretty simple: if he swings left, you have to dodge right; if he swings right, you have to dodge left. Before each swing, there will be a stream of blood being absorbed by Lord Drakan, like shown below:

OSRS Lord Drakan swing tell

The position of the blood absorbed is what indicates where the attack will be coming from. In the picture above, it is absorbed through the left side, so the swing will be from the left. To dodge this attack, you will need to click on the tiles to your right and back like shown here:

You can dodge by either clicking one tile or two tiles back, but clicking on any other tile will get you hit.

Front and Back Swing

OSRS Lord Drakan front back swing

This swing is foretold by Lord Drakan charging up his spear to his back. After a few ticks, he lunges forward, dealing damage to his front and back at the same time. To dodge this, you simply need to move to his side, like so:

After every front and back attack, he will do one or two left and right swings, so be prepared for that.

Cleave Swing

OSRS Lord Drakan cleave swing

A cleave attack is foretold by Lord Drakan, who once again charges up his spear, but this time to his side. Just like the previous one, after a while, he will slash in front of him and deal damage. To dodge this, simply move behind him. After every cleave attack, he will do one or two left and right swings, so be prepared for that.

AOE Swing

This attack is always paired with Left and Right Swings. It is indicated by Lord Drakan absorbing blood from all sides, as shown below:

OSRS Lord Drakan AOE swing

This attack deals damage 360 degrees around the boss, and the only way to avoid taking damage is to stand right next to him. Since it is always paired with other attacks, the simplest way of dodging this one is clicking on the boss to attack, which will automatically move your character right next to the boss.

Wave Attack - First Phase Change

After dealing around 1000 damage or so, the first phase change will happen. Lord Drakan will disappear and summon 12 portals around the arena. These portals will shoot out blood waves, which you will need to dodge by clicking at least 4 tiles behind them like so:

OSRS Lord Drakan blood wave phase

These waves will spawn from 3 different sides, so standing close to the west side of the arena, where there will be no spawns, is advantageous for dodging them.

Lunge Attack - Second Phase Change

Once you get Lord Drakan under 1000 HP, he will once again disappear, and blood rain will start, which will create temporary pools of blood on the ground. While dodging these pools, Lord Drakan will lunge at you every once in a while. Before lunging at you, he will appear and move in a direction for a few ticks, as shown below:

OSRS Lord Drakan lunge attack

This indicates the direction his attack will be launched from. You always have to dodge to either the left or the right. So if he attacks from the north or south, you have to dodge either west or east; if he attacks from east or west, you have to dodge either north or south. Click at least 3 tiles to the side you are dodging, as his attack is a 3x5 tile attack.

You can click to dodge right after the animation shown above finishes.

Lord Drakan Full Fight Breakdown

OSRS Lord Drakan defeated

Here is a step-by-step guide for defeating Lord Drakan:

  1. Get your supplies ready, pre-pot using the free supplies, and get brand new ones. Put on your protection from melee and piety prayers, and enter the boss room.
  2. Start hitting the boss and get ready to dodge any incoming attacks, as explained above. Attacks will come in sequences, so make sure to pay attention to the order of the swings to dodge properly. Every dodge is performed instantly, so click as fast as you can to not mess it up.
  3. At around 2000 health the phase change will commence. Move to the west side of the arena and get ready to run at the incoming waves and dodge them. You can turn off your prayers during this.
  4. At the end of each portal sequence, Lord Drakan will appear and shoot an empowered magic attack. Make sure to pray protect from magic to not get one-shot. After the magic attack, he will follow it up with a combo attack, which, if you can dodge correctly, will allow you to deal 155 damage on your next hit. Keep dodging and praying magic whenever he appears until the blood waves end.
  5. The fight will continue, and for a short while, Lord Drakan will keep using magical attacks in between melee attacks. Use protect from magic and immediately switch it to protection from melee after the attack lands on your character.
  6. Once you take Drakan down to 1000 health, he will do his last phase change. Dodge the incoming lightning and blood pools as well as his lunge attacks. Just like the portal phase, he will appear after a few lunge attacks and use his empowered magic attack, which you must pray against.
  7. After lunge attacks are over, you will once again fight him normally, but the lightning and blood pool attacks will continue to come. If you get hit by a blood pool it will disable your overhead prayer, so make sure to dodge them. If a blood pool is on the tile where you are supposed to dodge, you can click two tiles back to dodge farther away.
  8. During the last phase, don’t panic and keep doing the mechanics as you have done so far. You can combo eat with the meat and the slimy potions if you mess up, or you can use your jar of congealed blood to fully restore your prayer and health. Do this until Lord Drakan's health falls to 0.

Congratulations, you have just defeated the hardest quest boss of the game!
