Diablo 2: Resurrected , Game Guides

Andariel (aka the Maiden of Anguish) is one of the Lesser Evils that you can fight in Diablo II: Resurrected. She remains the go-to enemy to kill in the game, especially when you defeat her in the “Terrorized” Catacombs.
This is a D2R Andariel farming guide, which tells you the reasons why you should farm her, as well as some handy tips that will help you get to her location in the quickest way possible.
Who is Andariel in D2R?

Andariel is the first Act Boss in Diablo II: Resurrected. You can find her in the Catacombs Level 4, inside her antechamber. The map itself has many pillars and walls that you can use to hide from her poison attacks.
Since you are going to fight Andariel multiple times to get the best D2R items, you should know about her stats so that you can create your own farming strategies. Here are Andariel’s stats that you should know about:
| Stats | Normal Difficulty | Nightmare Difficulty | Hell Difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monster Level | 12 | 49 | 75 |
| Treasure Class | 15 | 45 | 69 |

Why Farm Andariel in D2R?
There are several compelling reasons why you should farm Andariel in Diablo II: Resurrected. These are:
Very Good Map Layout
Andariel resides in the Catacombs Level 4 in Act 1. You can get there by taking the waypoint to Level 2 and then making your way down a couple of stairs. After that, meet her in the antechamber, where she awaits.
If you have access to Teleport (either by playing the Sorceress class or wearing Enigma), you can go to the Catacombs and kill her anywhere between 25 and 45 seconds, depending on the current map layout.
Heavy Weakness to Fire
Despite having a high resistance to poison damage, Andariel does have a glaring weakness—she is very weak against fire damage. Thus, fire-based builds like the Apocalypse Warlock and Meteor Sorceress are all solid choices against the Maiden of Anguish.
Andariel Can Drop Good Items
This is the main reason why you should farm Andariel in Diablo II: Resurrected. She drops valuable items even if you fight her in Hell Difficulty alone (TC 69 items).
However, the real treasures come when you fight Andariel in Terror Zones (specifically, where she resides in the Catacombs Level 4). That is because her monster level increases by five relative to your current level (which also goes for the treasure class of items that you can get from her).
So, if you have a level 69 character and you try to defeat Andariel in the Terrorized Catacombs, she will drop TC 74 items as a result. This translates to getting a valuable piece of gear or a rarer rune (like Sur and Ber), as opposed to her non-TZ version (of just Ohm or Lo).
Easy to Kill
When you compare Andariel to the other major bosses in the game (like Mephisto and Baal), she is relatively easier to defeat, given her natural weakness to fire damage. Just make sure to have Antidote Potions with you so that you won’t experience a slow and painful death.
D2R: Reign of the Warlock Update Notes
Did Andariel change after the release of the Reign of the Warlock DLC for Diablo II: Resurrected? Well, Andariel herself did not receive any changes whatsoever, but things got more exciting with the introduction of the Heralds of Terror.
The Heralds of Terror are a new class of enemy that you can only summon while you’re in a Terror Zone. They will start hunting you down if you have eliminated enough TZ monsters. These heralds can drop Sunder Charms, which can be useful in downing monsters that are immune to certain damage types. You can refer to our D2R Herald of Terror guide for more information.
In addition, Andariel has a pretty good chance to drop Talic’s Anguish. This is one of several new statues that you can put in the Horadric Cube to create a portal to the Colossal Summit, where the Colossal Ancients reside.
How to Reach Andariel Quickly in D2R?
For efficient Andariel farming in D2R, you have to know your way inside the Catacombs so you can kill her, log out, then log back into the game to do the same thing all over again in the shortest time possible.
That said, teleport to Catacombs Level 2 and pay close attention to where you spawn in the map. The entrance to Catacombs Level 3 is almost always to your right, but that still depends on the layout. Here are some tips:
- If you spawn at the bottom of the map, then the entrance to Catacombs Level 3 is to the east.
- If you also spawn at the bottom of the map, but the walls look like a dead end, then head to the opposite direction (or the top of the map).
- If you spawn at the top of the map, the entrance to Level 3 is somewhere at the bottom.
- If the waypoint is in the western portion of the map, the entrance is usually located at the bottom.
- If the waypoint is the eastern portion of the map, then Catacombs Level 3 is most likely at the top.
Once you arrive at Catacombs Level 3, there is no definitive way to get to Level 4. However, many players have said that you just pick one direction and stick to the edge as you move. The entrance to Catacombs Level 4 is typically found in one of the corners.
How to Kill D2R Andariel Safely
Andariel is relatively easy to defeat if you know what you are doing. If this is your first time fighting the Maiden of Anguish, then here are some tips to help you come out victorious:
- Bring plenty of Antidote Potions: An Antidote Potion provides a +50 increase to your poison resistance. Since Andariel deals heavy poison damage, any form of poison damage mitigation is welcome. You can drink several Antidote Potions at the same time to increase the duration of the boosted poison resistance significantly.
- Clear the Room: When you arrive at the Catacombs Level 4, make sure to kill any monsters that you encounter in the area. This is so that the damage you receive will not be compounded, especially after aggroing Andariel herself.
- Kite Her When Needed: If your character is not strong enough to handle her head-on, you can kite her from the antechamber all the way to the first room, where you can hide behind the pillars whenever she does her poison attacks.
- Use a Fire-Based Build: Andariel is very weak against fire damage, so it’s best that you pick a D2R build that utilizes fire-based skills. Some builds you can go for are the Fire Ball-Meteor Sorceress and the Apocalypse Warlock.
- Check Your Poison Resistance: Antidote Potions can only do so much. Make sure that your poison resistance is at least above 30% or 40% before fighting Andariel.
Best Builds for Andariel Farming D2R
If you want to know our picks for the best builds to use when farming Andariel in Diablo II: Resurrected, here they are:
| Build | Why It Works | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Fire Ball-Meteor Sorceress | Heavy Fire Damage | The Fire Ball-Meteor Sorceress is a consistent frontrunner in Andariel Farming D2R, primarily exploiting her weakness against fire damage. |
| Fire Warlock | Massive Burst of Fire Damage | Also known as the “Apocalypse Warlock,” this build deals heavy fire damage, with Flame Wave and Apocalypse making quick work of “Andy” and her minions. |
| Hammerdin | Magic Damage | The Hammerdin might not deal fire damage, but Blessed Hammer deals magic damage instead, which monsters in the Catacombs Level 4 do not have a high resistance to. |
| Nova Sorceress | Good Damage and Area Clear | This D2R Sorceress build utilizes a skill that can hit multiple enemies at once. Even if you decide to take on Andariel with her minions surrounding her, the Nova Sorceress can handle them just by continuously casting her primary skill. |
| Blizzard Sorceress | Cold Damage and Defense | Another top contender for Andariel Farming in D2R, the Blizzard Sorceress deals heavy cold damage to Andy and her minions. This build also has a strong defense capability due to Frozen Armor, and if the going gets tough, it could cast Teleport to get out of harm’s way. |
If you are playing a non-Sorceress class, make sure to invest in Enigma. Having the ability to teleport significantly improves your efficiency in farming Andariel in D2R.

Tips for Andariel Farming in D2R
- Wear Magic Find Items: Magic Find (aka MF) is a stat that improves your chances of acquiring better loot. If your D2R build permits it, wear as many MF items as you can before fighting Andariel without compromising your damage and defense.
- Fight Andariel in Terrorized Catacombs: Andariel’s monster level increases by five whenever you fight her in the Terrorized Catacombs Level 4. If you don’t want to wait, you can turn most of the areas in Act 1 into Terror Zones by using a Western Worldstone Shard.
- Be at a Higher Character Level: The area level of a Terror Zone in D2R is equal to your character’s level plus two. The exception to this rule is if the zone itself is already at a high level (such as Chaos Sanctuary, which has an area level of 85). That said, farm Andariel continuously when you’re at level 88 or above. This is to ensure that her Treasure Class is high enough, so that elite items can drop more frequently just by defeating her.
- Invest in Enigma: There are a lot of viable D2R builds for the purpose of farming Andariel as many times as needed. However, you must get Enigma for non-Sorceress classes because Teleport is such a massive time-saver when going to Catacombs Level 2 all the way to Level 4.
- Increase Player Count: In D2R, bosses have a “NoDrop” chance, where certain items may not drop when defeating them. That said, increasing player count helps reduce this considerably, especially in odd increments (P3, P5, and P7). When playing offline, you can use the “/players x” command, where “X” is the number of players. When going online, you have to invite actual players to join your group. Anecdotally, many players find great success in farming items from Andariel in Players 5 difficulty.
