D2R Season 12 just began but we already know which classes are on top of the totem pole. If you want a little help starting strong, we've got you covered.

We've checked out every class in the game right now to see which of them deserve to be called the best of the best for this season. This is a D2R Season 12 best class tier list that you definitely shouldn't miss out on if you want to start this season with classes that are well-built this time around.

Of course, you'll still need a little bit of help to make sure that you're able to stand out in the game. That said, check out what we have in store at RPG Stash. We've got D2R gold for sale which will definitely give you the boost that you need.

No.1 - Paladin

Just like in the original iteration of Diablo 2, the Paladin class is easily at the top of the chain. It has been that way ever since the game launched. With its survivability, versatility, and overall ease of use, the Paladin continues to dominate this season, just as it has with every season before it.

One of the main issues we have with the Paladin is that it's a slow burn. It's very dependent on gear early on so you're likely to struggle during the main campaign. However, once you start getting certain Runewords, you're going to scale up with very little resistance from your enemies.

The Paladin is one of the fastest mob cleaners in the game. With its offensive and defensive abilities, you're able to stand out whether you're playing solo or in group play.

Best builds: Paladin: Fist of the Heavens, Blessed Hammer, Smite, Holy Fire, Zeal (Physical)

No. 2 - Sorceress

Overall, the Sorceress has the most amount of S-tier builds in the game. That's mainly because of the fact that the class has a very versatile set of skills, allowing any player to create something that fits their playstyle. Whether you're going at the game alone or in a group, there's a Sorceress build for that.

Out of all the builds, the Lightning build offers the fastest clear times, making it very useful for farming. As expected from the class, it has the highest elemental damage out of all the classes in the game, it deals the most elemental damage so it's great for exploiting weaknesses.

Unfortunately, the Sorcerer is a glass canon as always. You're going to need a lot of mobility and game sense to ensure that you're staying alive in the game. Without proper positioning, you can get taken out by enemy mobs rather quickly.

Best builds: Blizzard, Hydra, Fire Ball Meteor, Meteor Frozen Orb, Frozen Orb, Fire Wall, Lightning, Nova, Frost Nova

No. 3 - Necromancer

Caster classes in D2R are always a great choice for most players. Aside from the Sorceress, the next best caster class is the Necromancer. The star of the class this seasons are the Summoner and Poison builds which deal a lot of damage and making it a good class for solo players, even if you're vulnerable.

The builds of the Necromancer are focused on breaking multiple immunities so it can make even the most durable bosses feel weak in a group. One of the best parts about the Necromancer is that it scales well from early to the endgame so you rarely have to worry about being underpowered.

Keep in mind that the Necromancer might feel a little sluggish early on. You're going to rely heavily on minions for protection and setup as well.

Best builds: Summon, Bone Spear, Poison Nova, Rift

No. 4 - Amazon

If you're new to D2R, one of the best classes to choose is the Amazon. Of course, it's also an amazing class if you're planning to get back to the game after a long hiatus. It has a perfectly balanced mix of physical and magical damage, making it quite the class for beginners.

Thanks to its easy skill set, you don't have to worry a lot when it comes to using the Amazon. You can become a tank, a high damage initiator, and more. It's the best choice for those who want to get a better feel of the game first before moving on into more complicated classes.

The downside is that the Amazon is pretty average when it comes to everything else. There aren't any game-breaking builds, it has average survivability, and it requires specific gear and Runewords to truly standout.

Best builds: Lightning Fury, Freezing Arrow, Lightning Strike, Plague Javelin, Strafe, Jab Fend, Multiple Shot

No. 5 - Druid

Like the Amazon, the Druid is a very versatile class this season. In the past, most of the best builds of the class mainly focus on dealing damage through melee heavy setups. With this season however, the class has become more versatile, allowing you to benefit out of a variety of builds.

While its builds are well-balanced, you're mostly going to want to rely on the Wind build as it deals high damage and it has great range. But really, you can choose whatever you want when it comes to builds as it all boils down to how you use it in the end.

Unfortunately, it suffers from the same issues as the Amazon, in that you're a master of none. Druids don't excel in any areas, making them quite difficult to work with if you want to start min-max classes in the game.

Best builds: Shock Wave (Support Only), Tornado, Fissure, Summon, Fury, Fire Claws, Maul

No. 6 - Assassin

The Assassin isn't exactly a bad class. It has one of the best crowd control capabilities in the game thanks to its traps. You can basically create somewhat of a hybrid caster class thanks to its ranged skills. When it comes to mobility, crowd control, and damage, the Assassin is unbeatable.

Sadly, the Assassin is also unbeatable when it comes to fragility. It's one of the toughest classes to play as right now because of how easy it is to kill. This becomes an even bigger problem in endgame dungeons where mobs are very dense. One bad dodge and you're stuck in a bad place.

The Assassin mostly shines when it comes to party play because of its utility. Other than that, you're going to want to put the class in the backline if you're not planning on playing with anyone else this season.

Best builds: Lightning Sentry, Wake of Fire, Phoenix Strike, Claws of Thunder, Dragon Tail

No. 7 - Barbarian

Last but not the least, we've got the Barbarian. As odd as it sounds, the Barbarian doesn't work well as a solo play character. In fact, it's at its best when you're using the class as a support. How? Focus on Shouts, and you've got buffs on end for your team.

The Barbarian has very weak solo potential, even if you're using the most optimized builds. Its clear rates pale in comparison to every other class in the game. Oddly enough, the class also lost its traditional tanking capabilities this season, making it a bad initiator as well.

For what it's worth, this class really does excel when to support focused Shout builds but that's pretty much it. For that reason, it's at the bottom of the totem pole this season.

Best builds: Battle Orders (Support Only), Berserk, War Cry, Double Throw, Whirlwind, Leap Attack, Frenzy

So, to summarize:

Rank

Class

Strengths

Weaknesses

1

Paladin

“Hammerdin” build dominates all content. Great survivability and scaling. Effective in both solo and group play.

Gear-dependent early on; requires specific Runewords to shine.

2

Sorceress

Lightning build is the fastest clearer in the game. Great for gear farming. High elemental damage potential.

Very fragile; magic immunities can halt progress. Needs luck and positioning.

3

Necromancer

Summoner and Poison builds are top-tier. Can break multiple immunities. Scales well from early to endgame.

Can feel slow early on; reliant on minions for protection and setup.

4

Amazon

Both “Bowazon” and “Javazon” builds are strong. Balanced mix of physical and magic damage. New-player friendly.

No game-breaking builds; average survivability and damage scaling.

5

Druid

Very versatile; can summon, cast, or melee. Wind build is powerful and safe at range.

Master of none—doesn't excel in any single area. Summons weaker than Necromancer's.

6

Assassin

Excellent crowd control with traps. “Trapsin” build can act like a caster for safe ranged kills.

Melee builds are fragile and easily killed. Low survivability without buffs.

7

Barbarian

Great party support with Shouts. High mobility with Leap. Strong physical damage through Whirlwind.

Weak solo potential. Traditional tanking is ineffective in D2R, forcing more retreating than direct engagement.
