With the release of 0.3.0 The Third Edict, classes and builds got a major overhaul. Before committing to a build, we suggest that you check out our The Third Edict Best Class Tier List, and our guide on the Best Builds in The Third Edict.
Boneshatter is a beloved skill used by many melee players in the original Path of Exile. That is why it was interesting to see that GGG has ported it to the sequel, though many were surprised that it works a lot differently now compared to before.
If you have tried using Boneshatter since the launch of PoE 2 Early Access and you are baffled by it, we do not blame you. However, it is actually relatively easy to understand and quite powerful at eliminating monsters, so much so that it is the topic for this build guide.
Today, we will talk about the Boneshatter Titan. Why should you play this build and is it worth your time and investment in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict? Read further to find out!
Be sure to visit our PoE 2 Store so that you can buy and equip the best items for the Boneshatter Titan without breaking a sweat to farm for them yourself!
Why Play the Boneshatter Titan in Patch 0.3.0?
Boneshatter is one of the earliest skills that is available to the Warrior Class in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict. It is not the flashiest attack in his kit; in fact, it is far from it! However, what it does offer is a skill that creates an AoE shockwave when hitting an enemy that is primed for stun.
The term "Primed for Stun" means that an enemy is about to get stunned. Targets that are primed for stun have a visual indicator on top of their heads to signify this. Always remember to only use Boneshatter when you see the orb. Otherwise, the skill will deal insignificant damage.

Visual Indicator for "Primed for Stun"
To apply the "Primed for Stun" condition, you must whack the monsters with your mace. Early on, the default Mace Strike can handle this job well. Just insert the "Overpower" support gem and you can prime enemies for stun in just a couple of hits or so. Once that happens, follow that up with Boneshatter to neutralize the enemy!

Boneshatter Shockwave (When Hitting an Enemy That is "Primed for Stun")
When you have access to the Armour Breaker skill (at level 6), you have the option of switching to it over Mace Strike. Armour Breaker is just nice because of the fact that it can, well, break the target's armor, causing you to deal more damage as a result.
While the PoE 2 Boneshatter Titan in Patch 0.3.0 starts out as a physical damage build, our version relies on fire damage in the endgame. This is by taking the Avatar of Fire keystone, which converts a huge portion of your physical damage to fire damage.
Take note that allocating Avatar of Fire prevents you from dealing non-fire damage. If you see that your Mace Strike or Armour Breaker doesn't deal damage at all, that is probably because you do not have "Fire Damage to Attacks" in some of your gear.
Speaking of which, you will be happy to know that the Boneshatter Titan build in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict wears mostly rare items. If you want to purchase high-end rare items, be sure to visit our PoE 2 Store because we have what you are looking for!
Boneshatter can actually be utilized really well by any of the Warrior Ascendancy Classes in Path of Exile 2. However, we chose the Titan for our version of the build simply because of his access to Hulking Form and Mysterious Lineage. Long story short, this version of the build deals a bit more damage and has more HP than the Warbringer.
If you are curious, the advantage of the Warbringer over the Titan in terms of utilizing Boneshatter is that he has better armor-breaking potential and higher defense. Hence, it is entirely up to you what you value the most.
That said, it is imperative that you do not take "Crushing Impacts" at all because it can be quite detrimental to the build. Why is that, you ask? Although Crushing Impacts is good for any other PoE 2 Warrior Build, it actually destroys the flow of the Boneshatter Titan and can definitely brick it.
Remember that Boneshatter only creates the damaging shockwave when you hit enemies that are primed for stun. Since Crushing Impacts literally does the same thing, you are not getting the most out of your primary skill if you have this allocated. Just bear that in mind if you are thinking of playing the Boneshatter Titan in PoE 2 Rise of the Abyssals League.
This build performs admirably well, especially against bosses. Why? Because Boneshatter's Shockwave now deals 100% more damage against unique enemies in Patch 0.3.0!
Anyway, here is the ideal order of ascendancy nodes to take for the Boneshatter Titan:
- Colossal Capacity
- Hulking Form
- Mysterious Lineage
- Stone Skin

Look for the following modifiers when you are buying gear for the Boneshatter Titan:
- Increased Physical Damage
- Adds Physical Damage
- Adds Fire Damage
- Increased Elemental Damage
- Increased Attack Speed
- Increased Armour
- + to Armour
- + to Strength
- + to Maximum Life
- + to Level of All Melee Skills
Playstyle
When you are going to play the Boneshatter Titan in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict, always have the mindset that your primary skill (in this case, Boneshatter) is only meant as a finisher. That is why you are going to use a different attack to prime enemies for stun.
Mace Strike is an incredible skill that does the job in the early game. Once you see the indicator, immediately follow that up with Boneshatter to cause a relatively large shockwave, damaging nearby monsters in the process.
Once you have access to Armour Breaker, you can replace Mace Strike with it. The process is exactly the same. You open up with Armour Breaker and when the “Primed for Stun” icon appears, use Boneshatter.
Infernal Cry is an amazing addition to the build because of the extra fire damage you gain. After priming tougher enemies for stun, use Infernal Cry before you uppercut your opponents with Boneshatter.
During boss fights, you have Armour Breaker and Perfect Strike as your main abilities. Fully break the enemy’s armor with the former and then cast Infernal Cry to empower the Perfect Strike. After that, cast Flammability to reduce the fire resistance of the target, and then simply utilize Perfect Strike until the “Fully Broken Armor” status falls off. Rinse and repeat as many times as necessary until the boss goes down (which shouldn’t take long with this build).
Boneshatter Titan Gear Recommendations
The Boneshatter Titan is one of the most affordable builds in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict due to the fact that it doesn't rely on so many unique items. However, there are several uniques that you can equip if you want to get the most out of this build.
Now, before we discuss the individual pieces of gear that you will need, there is one modifier that you have to keep in mind and that is "Adds Fire Damage to Attacks." This particular modifier ensures that all your attack skills deal damage even with Avatar of Fire allocated. This immediately addresses the issue of some of your attacks not dealing damage at all when that keystone is taken.
Do not forget that if you want to get PoE 2 Divine Orbs, our store is always open to serve you!
Weapon
You will use two different weapon sets for the Boneshatter Titan build in PoE 2 Rise of the Abyssals League. The first one is focused on dealing huge amounts of damage with Boneshatter, which is why the weapon has slightly different modifiers than those on the second weapon set.
Having said that, get an Expert Cultist Greathammer to take advantage of its high range of splash damage. This works even if Boneshatter is used on enemies that are not affected by Primed for Stun. Ideally, you want a couple of physical damage mods and "Increased Elemental Damage with Attacks" since your skills deal fire damage anyway.

On the off-hand, you will equip the Expert Leaden Greathammer that has "+ to Level of All Melee Skills" and "Adds Fire Damage." This weapon has a higher base attack speed than the other one, making it a suitable choice to complement the Expert Cultist Greathammer.

For our version of the build, insert one of these maces with the Soul Core of Azcapa to get additional Spirit.
Alternate Weapon
For the second weapon set, you want to equip the Expert Oak Greathammer for that increased stun build-up. The modifiers on this weapon are largely the same as the off-hand for the first weapon set (except for strength).

The Expert Leaden Greathammer populates the off-hand weapon slot. It is almost the same as the Expert Oak Greathammer, albeit it does not have "Increased Elemental Damage with Attacks." Instead, it has a couple of physical damage mods and some added fire damage thrown into the mix.

Body Armor
Because you do not have a shield equipped, there is a possibility that you will get stunned when you are surrounded by monsters. That is why you should wear the Expert Vaal Cuirass as it increases your stun threshold by up to 40%.
Aside from that, the modifiers that you want here include increases to maximum life, resistance, and armor. You want a couple of armor mods on this item to maximize the effect of the "Stone Skin" ascendancy node from the Titan.

Helmet
Giant's Blood is pretty much mandatory for many Warrior Builds in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict. For those who do not know, this keystone passive allows you to equip two-handed weapons on each hand, provided that you are able to meet the greatly increased STR requirements on every weapon you wield.
For that reason, you want to have STR on almost all of your pieces of gear, starting with the helmet. Besides strength, this helmet must have life, resistance modifiers, and some armor as well.
If you cannot afford the Soul Core of Azcapa, purchase one that has a corrupted Spirit enchantment (at least +25).

Gloves
Despite dealing no non-fire damage due to Avatar of Fire, you still need some physical damage because of the keystone's inherent damage conversion. Hence, grab a pair of gloves that contain "Adds Physical Damage to Attacks" and a higher roll at that.
In addition, the ideal gloves for the Boneshatter Titan have the increased attack speed modifier to somehow make the skills perform noticeably faster.

Boots
Armor is such an important defensive layer for the Boneshatter Titan that the boots, ideally, must contain the "+ to Armour" modifier as well. Of course, you have the usual mods, including increased movement speed, life, and strength.
Additionally, this is one of the only items on this PoE 2 build that can have "Increased Rarity of Items Found" without compromising the performance of the Boneshatter Titan in Patch 0.3.0.

Amulet
There is really only one amulet that you can wear for the Boneshatter Titan and that is Xoph's Blood. This unique amulet has a couple of interesting modifiers worth mentioning.
The first one is that amazing "% Increased Maximum Life" modifier. If you have been playing Path of Exile 2 since the launch of Early Access, you know that there are only a handful of ways you can avail of this modifier, and Xoph's Blood is one of them.
The second is that wearing this amulet allows you to deal more damage. Why? Because it instantly applies Fire Exposure to nearby enemies. Think of this as your "always-on" Flammability curse, except that you do not need to lift a finger to apply it!
For the anointment, you can have Acceleration (Distilled Fear, Distilled Envy, Distilled Disgust) for smoother skill animations, particularly for Leap Slam, Armour Breaker, and Perfect Strike.
Do you want to buy Xoph's Blood? Then head to our PoE 2 Store right away!

Rings
Even though you will not wear the ever-popular Ingenuity belt on this build, you would still want to invest in a Breach Ring (or two) that has "Adds Fire Damage to Attacks" as one of its modifiers.
If you have any deficiencies in your elemental resistances, you can address them by wearing the appropriate Breach Ring as well.
Do not forget to use Xoph's Catalyst to improve the fire damage modifier considerably.

Belt
Surprisingly, the Boneshatter Titan does not need Ingenuity to prosper. That’s right! In fact, you only have to equip a rare belt that has "+2 to Charm Slots." You are going to need those slots to equip the Thawing Charm, Stone Charm, and Grounding Charm. These things provide immunity to freeze, stun, and shock, respectively.

Flask
With the Blood Magic keystone passive allocated, you do not need a Mana Flask for the Boneshatter Titan in Patch 0.3.0. This is a good thing because you can utilize a Life Flask that has a "% Increased Life Recovered, Removes % of Life Recovered from Mana When Used" modifier without worrying about losing a sizable portion of your mana (because you have none anyway).

Jewels
In terms of the jewels that you will use, get at least a couple of Ruby Jewels that have "Gain 1 Rage on Melee Hit." This is necessary to get the benefits of the Berserk buff, which amplifies the effect of Rage, granting more damage per point.
Aside from that, look for any of the following jewel modifiers:
- Increased Damage with Maces
- Increased Fire Damage
- Increased Melee Damage
- Increased Attack Damage
- +2% to Maximum Fire Resistance
- Increased Elemental Damage
- Increased Attack Speed
- Gain 1 Rage on Melee Hit
- Increased Stun Build-Up
- Increased Stun Build-Up with Maces
The modifier, "Increased Weapon Swap Speed," can no longer roll in Patch 0.3.0. This is because weapon swapping in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict is now instant, so there's no more need for such mod in this build.
Additionally, we highly recommend that you get a Time-Lost Ruby, specifically one that has fire penetration and increased damage against enemies with fully broken armor. Place this item in the jewel socket before the "Polymathy" cluster at the bottom-middle portion of the passive tree.

In the endgame, invest in the Against the Darkness jewel with increased maximum life and percentage increase in Strength. Put this in the jewel socket that is very close to the Blood Magic keystone passive.

Passive Tree
To get the most enjoyment out of the Boneshatter Titan, you must be acquainted with the weapon swap system in Path of Exile 2. If you do not know what it is, check out our PoE 2 weapon set skill points guide.
Anyway, during your leveling journey, you want to get Mass Hysteria and Devastation right away. Relentless is also good to help you survive the first act of the game without wearing awesome gear just yet.
Next, head left and up to get the Resolute Technique. This keystone passive is crucial for the build because you want your attacks to never miss. Do not worry about not being able to land a critical hit because that is not a primary concern for the Boneshatter Titan (or at least, our version of it).
After allocating the Resolute Technique, head down to get Heatproofing. This notable passive skill just makes it so that your armor also mitigates incoming fire damage from hits. Once that is done, head up and then go left a little bit to take Crushing Verdict.
Move towards the jewel socket to the left and head down to Giant's Blood. Of course, allocate Brute Strength along the way as it provides you with a 1% damage increase per 15 points of STR.
Now, Giant's Blood triples the attribute requirements of your weapons, so only allocate this if you have enough STR to wield them. If you do not have the amount of STR necessary to equip an awesome weapon, head to the right of the passive tree and allocate Polymathy. You can take the small nodes on here if you like, though you can always go back to take the other notable passive skills instead.
When you have Polymathy allocated, you already have enough physical damage and attributes at this point to safely take Avatar of Fire. Make sure that you are using a high physical damage weapon with some added fire damage. This is important because Avatar of Fire makes your other skills deal no damage if there is no fire damage component added to them, so keep that in mind.
After Avatar of Fire, head upward and then right a little bit until you reach the Blood Magic keystone passive. From here, you have complete control over which passive skills you are going to take next.

Tips and Strategies [Patch 0.3.0]
How to Address 'Primed for Stun' Issues
When you are geared enough, you may run into an issue where you deal so much damage that you cannot prime enemies for stun. This is a major pain point considering that Boneshatter only emits a shockwave when you use it on monsters that are primed for stun.
Having said that, there are some things that you can do to address the situation. For one, if you are using the Expert Oak Greathammer, you might want to use a different mace if it causes too much stun build-up. Remember, the goal of the second weapon set is to only "prime" enemies for stun; not actually stun them with your hits.
Aside from that, you can remove some of the notable passive skills that contribute to stun build-up, such as Crushing Verdict, Titanic, and Brutal. Use the passive skill points that have been refunded for something else like increased melee damage and whatnot.
If you are not comfortable with another weapon because the one you are currently using on the second weapon set is just too awesome, then you might want to remove "Overpower" from Armour Breaker and replace it with the Fire Penetration support gem, for example.
Hopefully, GGG will add some mechanic or support gem that can naturally apply Primed for Stun more consistently, or better yet, remove this system entirely.
Stack Armor as High as You Can
This build does not have any evasion and energy shield whatsoever. You are leaning into the Warrior archetype, where you absorb all of the hits and never go down despite the damage sustained.
To make that a reality, you must wear pieces of gear that contain lots of armor. Those are primarily rare items that have the "Increased Armour" and "+ to Armour" modifiers.
If you somehow have hybrid armor-evasion gear equipped, allocating the Iron Reflexes keystone passive is an option you can take. This effectively converts all evasion modifiers into armor, so nothing goes to waste.
Always Do Animation Canceling
Whenever you use Leap Slam to search the map for monsters, it always makes you stop shortly after landing from a jump. This can result in more clunky gameplay, which you surely do not want if you like to be more efficient at mapping.
That is why we encourage you to practice animation canceling. Basically, all you have to do is perform a Dodge Roll at the exact moment you land after using Leap Slam. This will cancel the animation of Leap Slam on your own terms, thus letting you do another Leap Slam or another skill of your choosing.
Get Out of Harm's Way
Sprinting is a new movement mechanic introduced in Patch 0.3.0. While you want to group enemies up for the perfect Boneshatter shockwave smash, there are instances where monsters can overwhelm you. If you experience this, sprint away from the monsters to recoup.
POB
PoE 2 Boneshatter Titan in Patch 0.3.0: Final Thoughts
The Boneshatter Titan may not impress you with its minimalistic animations but it certainly gets the job done. You prime enemies for stun using Armour Breaker and then follow that up with Boneshatter to decimate any nearby monster.
Perfect Strike is a nice inclusion, especially with the arrival of the Perfection support gem in PoE 2 Patch 0.3.0. Sure, it takes time to master this skill, though you will get the hang of it eventually.
Because of how accessible it is (you can use it as early as level 1), the Boneshatter skill is incredible if you know how to utilize it to its fullest extent. That said, we hope that you have found our build guide useful.
If you need Divine Orbs, Exalted Orbs, and Vaal Orbs to get the perfect gear for the Boneshatter Titan, feel free to visit our PoE 2 Store. We are open 24/7, with a dedicated customer support staff ready and waiting to assist you in any way.
So, after reading this build guide, will you play as the Boneshatter Titan in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict? If so, what drew you to trying it? Let us know in the comments!
PROS
- Easy leveling journey because of how easily accessible the primary skill is
- Still incredible in Patch 0.3.0
- Destroys enemies with Boneshatter's shockwave, especially after the buffs made to the said skill
CONS
- Can only equip a few item rarity gear if you want to min-max everything
- May not be the most ideal build to play in co-op mode because of the issue with Primed for Stun
- Must invest in "+ to Maximum Life" and "Increased Armour" to improve defenses since this build is surrounded by enemies the majority of the time
