With the release of 0.3.0 The Third Edict, classes and builds got a major overhaul. Before committing to a build, we suggest that you check out our The Third Edict Best Class Tier List, and our guide on the Best Builds in The Third Edict.
Does the thought of playing a “one-button” build in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict excite you? How about a build that does not rely on Hammer of the Gods in PoE 2 Patch 0.3.0? If the answer to these questions is yes, then we would like to invite you to read further.
In this article, we are going to talk about the Corrupting Cry Warbringer. Yes, we will actually talk about a build with a huge upside, especially in the upcoming major update. So are you interested? Let’s go!
Take note that some of the endgame items of this build are a bit expensive. Fortunately for you, we have all of the things you need in our PoE 2 Store, so be sure to check it out!
Why Play the Corrupting Cry Warbringer in Patch 0.3.0?
So, you have used the Uncut Skill Gem but you have not seen the Corrupting Cry in the menu at all. Why is that? Well, that is because Corrupting Cry is actually a support gem—one that can be inserted into a warcry skill. In this case, you are going to put it into Seismic Cry.
Seismic Cry by itself is used to empower your next slam skill. However, when you insert Corrupting Cry into it, the said warcry skill now gains the ability to inflict Corrupted Blood, which is a debuff that makes enemies suffer from increasing physical damage over time, based on 25% of your total strength.
Now, the typical limiting factor of Seismic Cry is that it has a long eight-second cooldown. Not to worry, that is why this build is using the Warbringer ascendancy class to do the job!
You see, the Warbringer has the “Greatwolf’s Howl” ascendancy node which completely ignores warcry cooldowns. This makes it so that Seismic Cry, as well as Infernal Cry, can be spammed so long as you have the resources to do so.
While the combination of Seismic Cry and Corrupting Cry works wonders against map monsters, it lacks the firepower to destroy rare monsters and bosses. Thankfully, the Warrior Class in PoE 2 has access to the Ancestral Warrior Totem.
Put the Earthshatter skill into the said totem and it will automatically cast it without additional intervention. Furthermore, while the Ancestral Warrior Totem is doing its thing, you spam Seismic Cry to continuously inflict Corrupted Blood.
Since this build requires Greatwolf’s Howl in order to spam warcries, you would have to rely on Mace Strike and Boneshatter until you get your 2nd Ascendancy. You can also check out our “How to get the 3rd ascendancy in Path of Exile 2” guide for more tips on how to progress your character.
How about this build’s defenses? What we love about the Warbringer is that he has a couple of incredible defensive ascendancy nodes, such as Renly’s Training and Turtle Charm. The former greatly increases your equipped shield’s block chance, while the latter allows you to effectively block damage from all hits even when your shield is not raised.
It is important to note that both of those defensive ascendancy nodes got rebalanced in PoE 2 Patch 0.3.0. Renly's Training has its base block chance reduced from 40% to 35%. For Turtle Charm, it now lets you take 30% of damage from blocked hits instead of having 25% less block chance. All in all, a slight nerf to both of these nodes yet they still provide good value for this build.
Anyway, here is the ideal order of ascendancy nodes to take for the PoE 2 Corrupting Cry Warbringer in Patch 0.3.0:
- Anvil’s Weight (Replace with Warcaller’s Bellow when you have the 2nd ascendancy unlocked)
- Greatwolf’s Howl
- Renly’s Training
- Turtle Charm

When looking for the ideal equipment for this Path of Exile 2 build, choose any combination of these modifiers:
- + to Strength
- + to Level of All Melee Skills
- Increased Block Chance
- + to Maximum Life
- + to Armour
- Increased Armour
- + to Stun Threshold
Playstyle
The Corrupting Cry Warbringer in PoE 2 Rise of the Abyssals League is a true “one-button” build in the sense that you will spam Seismic Cry to inflict Corrupted Blood on the enemy. When you struggle to defeat a rare monster, simply drop the Ancestral Warrior Totem to help you.
During boss fights, cast Infernal Cry to gain Rage (via Raging Cry) and apply Daze (via Dazing Cry). Daze is amazing because it actually makes enemies a lot easier to stun with your Seismic Cry and Earthshatter from your totems.
In addition, spamming Seismic Cry near the Earthshatter spikes causes them to shatter, dealing additional damage.
Corrupting Cry Warbringer Gear Recommendations
What we love about this build is that it can function even with self-found gear. Of course, it gets infinitely better the more investment you put into it. That said, some of the endgame items for this build are crazy expensive, so you might want to buy PoE 2 Divine Orbs from our store to help you with this.
For the rare pieces of gear, refer to the earlier section of this PoE 2 build guide where we highlighted the ideal modifiers to look for. Do not worry, treat the endgame items as upgrades to aim for later down the line and not something crucial for the build to function.
Weapon
While leveling up, make sure to use a two-handed mace to deal huge amounts of damage, making your journey a lot smoother. Once you get your 2nd ascendancy and have allocated Greatwolf’s Howl, you can transition to using a sceptre. Wait, what!?
That’s right! The Corrupting Cry Warbringer utilizes a well-rolled sceptre to gain more Spirit. You see, this build takes advantage of Blasphemy, which is a persistent buff that turns socketed curse skills into auras that affect monsters within close proximity.
Although Blasphemy is cool and all, it does require 60 Spirit for every curse skill you put into it. You are going to use Enfeeble and Temporal Chains here to make enemies deal less damage to you and slow them down, respectively. That is already 120 Spirit for those two curse skills.
On top of that, you have several other buffs that require Spirit to activate. Thus, the only viable solution here is to equip a Sceptre that has a couple of increased Spirit modifiers.
Do not forget to use Arcanist’s Etchers because the sceptre gains additional base Spirit per 1% quality. Also, the type of Sceptre does not really matter because you are only after the extra Spirit that you can get from it.

Shield
A rare shield that has STR, resistance, and life can go a long way. However, save some PoE 2 Currency to get the Svalinn. This unique shield has that incredible “Block Chance is Lucky” modifier which, in layman’s terms, means that you always have the best odds of blocking incoming hits.
You might want to obtain a corrupted one that has “-7% to Maximum Block Chance” instead of the usual range of -10-20%.

Weapon 2
To maximize the potential of the PoE 2 Corrupting Cry Warbringer build in Patch 0.3.0, you have to equip a couple of two-handed maces on the second weapon set. If you are not familiar with this, you can learn more by checking out our PoE 2 weapon set skill points guide.
If the base of the Sceptre does not matter, the same cannot be said for the two-handed mace. We highly recommend the Expert Oak Greathammer because of its implicit modifier, which grants an increased stun-build up.
When shopping for the Expert Oak Greathammer on PoE 2 Trade, make sure that you get one that has a high roll of “+ to Level of All Melee Skills.” The reason is that the Ancestral Warrior Totem gains base physical damage the higher its level is.

Body Armor
The Corrupting Cry Warbringer is essentially a STR-stacking build in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict. That is because the higher the strength value is, the more damaging Corrupting Cry becomes. Having said that, it is imperative that each piece of gear that you wear has some STR on it to make it count.
Now, for the body armor, you can have one that has Spirit, STR, and life. Having a couple of armor mods also improves your survivability, so just try to suit the body armor according to your needs.

In the endgame, we suggest that you buy the Morior Invictus that has “Increased Maximum Life” and “Increased Attributes” as its unique modifiers. This not only solves survivability issues but also ensures that your STR is at a relatively high amount. Because this is your endgame armor anyway, you might as well purchase one that has five sockets.

Helmet
The Black Sun Crest is a staple among attribute-stacking builds in PoE 2 Rise of the Abyssals League, so it’s only fitting that you wear this one over the other helmets. All you need from this one is “15% Increased Strength” and a high roll of “Increased Armor.”

Gloves
Aside from high STR and life roll, the gloves can have “+2 to Level of All Melee Skills” as well. If you have deficiencies on any of your resistance modifiers, you can have one on here too!

Boots
If you would like to have the increased item rarity mod somewhere on this build, you can have that on the boots. It should also go without saying that the boots must have at least 30% increased movement speed, especially when you are already level 70 and above.

Amulet
You probably have an idea of what the endgame amulet is for this build, so we will start with the rare amulet instead. Ideally, you want to grab a Stellar Amulet that has 40+ Spirit, STR, and “+ to All Attributes.” If the budget is tight, you can go for any base amulet that has the same modifiers.
The good thing about a rare amulet in PoE 2 is that it can roll with “+3 to Level of All Melee Skills.” Since leveling the Ancestral Warrior Totem past level 20 is of top priority, having this particular modifier just makes sense!

Ultimately, you will settle with the Astramentis. This unique amulet really needs no introduction because it gives you a significant increase in attributes. The added physical damage reduction is just the icing on the cake!
This unique amulet is one of the most expensive items in Path of Exile 2. Do not be disheartened because you can easily buy the Astramentis in our PoE 2 Store!
Whatever amulet you have right now, do not forget to instill it with Titanic (Distilled Despair, Distilled Paranoia, Distilled Guilt) for that 5% increased strength and increased stun threshold.

Rings
When it comes to the rings that you are going to wear, the two non-negotiable modifiers are strength and attributes. The rest of the mods can be anything that you need for your particular build. Do you need additional elemental resistances? How about more HP? Those can be sorted by the rings.
At the beginning, you may want to get Amethyst Rings for some additional chaos resistance. However, Breach Rings are quite unbeatable in the endgame because you can increase their quality to 50% using any catalyst of your choosing.
For this case, however, go for Adaptive Catalysts to improve the rings’ attribute modifiers.

Belt
A rare Heavy Belt is recommended if you are on a budget. That is because it increases your stun threshold by up to 30%, which is useful given that you always get surrounded by monsters in high-tier maps. You can have a couple of resistance modifiers if you need them, though STR will always be a mandatory part of any item for the Corrupting Cry Warbringer.

The notable upgrade to a rare Heavy Belt is, of course, Ingenuity. Get a corrupted one with 81%+ increased effect of equipped rings.

Flasks
This build has the Blood Magic keystone passive allocated, which means that it does not have any mana whatsoever. Instead, it spends life to cast skills.
While it may look a bit nerve-wracking considering that you are spending HP to use Seismic Cry and Ancestral Warrior Totem, a well-rolled Life Flask can go a long way in helping you survive.
We highly recommend that you grab a Life Flask that has the “Sapping” prefix so that you can have as much as a 100% increased amount of life recovered in every use.

Jewels
We have a few unique jewel recommendations for the Corrupting Cry Warbringer in PoE 2 Patch 0.3.0. But before that, we will talk about the rare jewels first.
For our particular version of the build, you can insert four to five rare jewels. That said, get Ruby Jewels that have any of the following modifiers:
- Increased Warcry Speed
- Increased Damage with Warcries
- Increased Global Physical Damage
- Increased Area of Effect
- +2% Maximum Fire Resistance
- Increased Armour
- Increased Block Chance
- Increased Totem Placement Speed
- Increased Life Regeneration Rate
- Increased Stun Build-Up
Because weapon swapping is now instant in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict, increased weapon swap speed is no longer needed. GGG deems it so, which is why you can't roll this mod anymore on any piece of gear or jewelry.
The global physical damage modifier affects Corrupted Blood as well. That is why you have to make it a point that every Ruby Jewel you have contains this particular mod.
Anyway, in terms of the unique jewels, we suggest that you invest in Against the Darkness with “4% Increased Strength” and “4% Extra Fire Damage.” The latter contributes to your overall damage output, making it a worthy addition.

Next, purchase the Prism of Belief that specifically says “+3 to Level of Ancestral Warrior Totem.” This should be affordable given that the Corrupting Cry Warbringer is an off-meta build currently in Path of Exile 2. Now, if you want to get it right away without spending Divine Orbs, then head to our PoE 2 Store to get the Prism of Belief.

When you have the Against the Darkness jewel mentioned above, you can invest in a “From Nothing” jewel that enables you to allocate passive nodes near the Unwavering Stance keystone. With this jewel, you can allocate Finality, Escalation, and Vengeance without spending too many passive skill points!

Skills
- Seismic Cry
- Corrupting Cry
- Brutality
- Swift Affliction
- Inspiration
- Splinter
- Note: Replace Splinter with Devastate when bossing
- Ancestral Warrior Totem
- Earthshatter
- Upheaval
- Martial Tempo
- Heft
- Bloodlust
- Blasphemy
- Enfeeble
- Temporal Chains

- Persistence
- Physical Mastery
- Overwhelming Presence
- Vitality
- Cannibalism
- Blink
- Arcane Tempo
- Ingenuity
- Shield Charge
- Second Wind
As you can see, our version of the PoE 2 Corrupting Cry Warbringer in Patch 0.3.0 utilizes Blink for mobility as well. It is entirely optional given the steep 60 Spirit needed to activate it. However, mapping feels a lot smoother with it when used in conjunction with Shield Charge.
Speaking of which, Shield Charge has a delay at the end of its animation. That is why it is recommended to initiate a Dodge Roll as soon as your character stops charging to cancel the delay.
Since Blasphemy has a steep Spirit requirement, use Enfeeble first and then Temporal Chains. Only insert Temporal Chains once you have the pieces of gear mentioned earlier in this Path of Exile 2 build guide.
Passive Tree
When you are still starting out, forget the shield nodes for now since you will be using a two-handed mace for leveling. That said, allocate passive skills that improve your damage, such as:
- Smash
- Devastation
- Impact Force
- Battle Fever
- Revenge
It is also recommended that you take the Resolute Technique keystone passive so that every hit with Boneshatter and Mace Strike lands on the enemy, making every use of those skills count.
Once you have completed your 2nd Ascendancy, you can start taking nodes that improve block chance, warcry speed, totem damage, and totem placement speed. Since Giant’s Blood is an integral part of the build, you must have enough STR to wield the two-handed maces. If you still cannot satisfy the triple attribute requirements, go directly to Polymathy at the bottom-middle portion of the passive tree to help address that.
The nodes on the middle portion of the passive tree, specifically Battle-hardened and Hard to Kill, are the last ones you are going to allocate. Do not forget to get acquainted with the weapon swap system because it is imperative that you set the right passive skills for specific weapon sets.
The red lines indicate passive nodes for the sceptre and shield combo, while the green lines are meant for improving the Ancestral Warrior Totem.

Tips and Strategies [Patch 0.3.0]
Keep Seismic Cry at a Low Level
Although it is fun to spam Seismic Cry willy-nilly, it is important to note that each cast depletes your HP due to the Blood Magic keystone passive. That is why if you are still unable to mitigate the life lost from spamming the said warcry skill, leave Seismic Cry at level 11. This ensures that you do not lose a lot of HP when casting your primary skill.
Instill Deep Trance
One of the things that you will do if you are to play the Corrupting Cry Warbringer is to raise the level of the Ancestral Warrior Totem as high as possible. This is so that it can deal huge amounts of damage with Earthshatter.
While it is good to have a high-level totem whacking enemies with a devastating slam attack, laying down a level 30+ Ancestral Warrior Totem takes a considerable chunk of your HP every time.
If the loss of HP is unbearable, you could instill the Deep Trance notable passive skill instead of Titanic. Deep Trance reduces the life cost of Seismic Cry and Ancestral Warrior Totem by 10%, which is actually quite noticeable.
The good news is that Deep Trance only needs Distilled Fear, Distilled Ire, and Distilled Despair, which are Distilled Emotions that are relatively affordable.
The Correct Order of Buffs
If you are not aware, the endgame version of this build requires an eye-watering 318 Spirit to activate every persistent buff. For context, typical Warrior Builds in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict only have access to 150 Spirit at most without doing some crazy stuff (like using a well-rolled Sceptre).
So, if you have a limited amount of Spirit and are unable to activate all persistent auras at the same time just yet, here is the correct order of buffs:
- Blasphemy
- Overwhelming Presence
- Time of Need
- Scavenged Plating
- Blink
If you do not have enough Spirit to insert Enfeeble and Temporal Chains, remove the latter for the time being.
Get More Intelligence
The high-level sceptre, as well as the Blink skill, require a considerable amount of Intelligence to use. If you do not have the Astramentis, you might not be able to utilize any of them. Fortunately, there are things you can do to resolve that.
For the weapon, get a Sceptre that has INT, as well as “30-35% Reduced Attribute Requirements.” The latter mod makes a level 78 Sceptre only require 138 INT to wield.
For Blink, use a level 14 Uncut Spirit Gem to keep its intelligence requirement at an acceptable level (133 INT to be exact).
Is Hammer of the Gods Viable?
Hammer of the Gods is an amazing skill in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict, so much so that most Warrior Builds in the game utilize it. The reason for this is that it deals an insane amount of damage, with the downside being that you would have to wait 24 seconds before you can cast it again.
Now, if you are wondering why we do not recommend that you use HoTG for the Corrupting Cry Warbringer, the Ancestral Warrior Totem is set up to automatically use Earthshatter without intervention. The spikes from the said skill interact with Seismic Cry, allowing you to get rid of nearby monsters really well without having to wait for a very long cooldown.
So, even though Hammer of the Gods can be utilized on this build, we still advise you to go for the Ancestral Warrior Totem regardless.
POB
PoE 2 Corrupting Cry Warbringer in Patch 0.3.0: Final Thoughts
The Corrupting Cry Warbringer is an unorthodox yet fun build that can destroy multiple monsters in an area thanks to the Seismic Cry spam. By using the said warcry skill, you inflict Corrupted Blood that is so potent that it can eliminate most map monsters with ease.
While Corrupting Cry may struggle a bit in terms of single-target damage, this build utilizes the Ancestral Warrior Totem to help finish the job. The totem slams the ground with Earthshatter and the spikes that come from it can be shattered for additional AoE damage, decimating nearby monsters in the process.
If you want a true one-button build in Path of Exile 2, then we definitely recommend the Corrupting Cry Warbringer!
