PoE 2 Amazon Ascendancy Class [0.2.0]

The Huntress is already a versatile fighter, but if you want to improve her abilities even further, taking the Amazon ascendancy class seems to be a good fit. Why is that and is it really a good one? Well, that is what you will find out in this article!

PoE 2 Amazon Ascendancy Class

How is the Amazon different from the Ritualist ascendancy class for the Huntress in PoE 2? Well, the Amazon specializes in improving critical hit chance and elemental damage, allowing her to destroy enemies without a hitch!

In terms of defenses, the Amazon heavily leans on being a DEX class in Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt by gaining more evasion over other defensive layers. Let’s take a look at what this PoE 2 ascendancy class is capable of, shall we?

Critical Strike

The default skills available to the Huntress enable her to become a versatile fighter who is able to engage with enemies at a close range or from a distance if needed. That said, why not use the excess accuracy rating to deal huge amounts of damage? Well, that is the philosophy behind the first ascendancy node we are going to talk about, which is Critical Strike.

Critical Strike allows you to go beyond 100% accuracy. Why? Because 25% of the excess accuracy that your character has is converted to critical hit chance. And mind you, this is the base critical hit chance; not the critical hit chance modifier on your weapon. This is awesome because you will get a substantial amount of crit just by allocating Critical Strike and raising your accuracy rating through the roof!

Now, without going to the nitty-gritty details, you can theoretically achieve a 150% accuracy. If you are able to get this amount, that translates to about a 12.5% base critical hit chance! Why is this so incredible, you ask?

Well, judging by the stats of a typical spear in Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt, the vast majority of spears only have a base critical hit chance of 5% (with the exception of the Seaglass Spear, which has a 10% base crit).

If you have Critical Strike allocated, you will increase your chance to land a critical hit significantly. Think about it—you are getting more damage just by improving your accuracy! That is like hitting two birds with one stone!

Penetrate

This next ascendancy node takes into account the weapon you have equipped. Penetrate grants added physical damage equal to 25% of the accuracy rating of your weapon. If you are going to allocate this (which is pretty much a lock when you have Critical Strike), then you need to have a competent weapon to take advantage of its effect.

Assuming that the Spear also has the same weapon modifiers as that of a high physical damage Dualstring Bow, you can have the hybrid physical damage plus accuracy modifier, as well as a standalone accuracy mod to further boost the total accuracy of your weapon.

While the 25% conversion might not look much, it certainly factors in with the other physical damage modifiers that are already on your weapon. That means that Penetrate could potentially be so overpowered. Hopefully, it is not too powerful because it will prompt GGG to nerf this ascendancy node if that happens.

Mystic Harvest

In Path of Exile 2, you can only take advantage of life leech when you deal physical damage. For those who do not know, life leech is basically the amount of life you recover from attacking an enemy. How much you gain from this depends largely on the damage you have dealt.

That said, the Amazon has the Mystic Harvest ascendancy node, which allows her to leech life even while dealing elemental damage! This is quite huge because the Amazon specializes in neutralizing enemies with fire, cold, and lightning damage.

If she is able to sustain herself when using Explosive Spear as her primary skill, for example, she can be effective from the campaign all the way to Tier 15 maps for sure!

Azmeri Brew

One of the biggest changes in Path of Exile 2 compared to the original game is that you only have a couple of flask slots, which are pretty much reserved for a Life Flask and a Mana Flask. During the campaign, you will often find yourself struggling to survive because your flasks can only do so much in terms of healing life and recovering mana.

That said, the Amazon is trained to be an elite guard and that is exemplified by her ability to utilize flasks more than the other PoE 2 ascendancy classes to improve survivability.

In the hands of the Amazon, a Life Flask can recover mana and a Mana Flask can also recover life. This is possible when you allocate the Azmeri Brew ascendancy node. Even though you will more likely unspec this in the endgame, Azmeri Brew is still a very useful one to take while you are leveling up!

Assuming that you have the Melting Maelstrom unique mana flask, you not only gain all of your mana back upon use but you recover some of your HP as well! If you want to buy the Melting Maelstrom, go to our PoE 2 Store at any time!

Elemental Infusion

This ascendancy node allows the Amazon to infuse her weapon with elemental damage depending on the charge that was consumed. If she consumes a Frenzy Charge, for example, she gains lightning damage. No matter which element she infuses her spear with, the weapon will always explode on impact when thrown, damaging nearby enemies in the process!

Elemental Infusion could be a good ascendancy node for mapping if only there is a way to gain charges more consistently. At the moment, you can only gain Frenzy Charges via Combat Frenzy or Power Charges when you have the Resonance keystone passive allocated.

Take note that this article was written before the release of the patch notes for Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt. If this ascendancy node enables the Amazon to infuse her spear with elemental damage, then it is possible that a new mechanic will be implemented in PoE 2 Patch 0.2.0 to gain Endurance Charges as well.

Infused Avatar

Do you like Elemental Infusion and would love to improve it somehow? If that is the case, you could allocate Infused Avatar so that there is a considerable chance that a charge will not be consumed when infusing a projectile.

In all honesty, this ascendancy node is a bit lackluster considering that you need to spend four ascendancy points just to get it. It would have been nice if GGG had added one more beneficial effect.

Still, having a 50% chance to not consume charges when utilizing Elemental Infusion can be good for mapping, particularly if you are able to eliminate monsters more efficiently.

Stalking Panther

As mentioned earlier, the Amazon can have a substantial amount of evasion even more than the Deadeye ascendancy class in Path of Exile 2. This is due to the Amazon ascendancy node called the Stalking Panther.

Stalking Panther essentially doubles the amount of evasion on your helmet, gloves, and boots. This comes at the cost of reducing the evasion of your equipped body armor by half.

While the downside may look substantial on the surface, that is not a problem at all when you actually see the amount of evasion the other pieces of gear can have. If we are strictly looking at the best possible bases for each gear piece, the helmet can have as much as 1,298 evasion rating, the gloves can have 799, and the boots can roll up to 994.

Those values do not even consider the new greater runes in PoE 2. So just imagine socketing a Greater Iron Rune into the helmet, gloves, and boots! We will not be surprised if the Amazon ascendancy class can still retain a substantial amount of evasion even with the Acrobatics keystone passive allocated!

Predatory Instinct

This next ascendancy node presents an interesting new mechanic that could allow you to destroy pinnacle bosses despite the changes made in PoE 2 Patch 0.2.0. Predatory Instinct reveals the weaknesses of any rare or unique monster you encounter.

Once the weaknesses of your enemies are discovered, you deal 50% more damage to them. Now, as we have seen from the reveal trailer for Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt, it seems that the damage buff from Predatory Instinct only applies if you are able to deplete the enemy’s life up to the “weakness” part as shown in the image below:

The superimposed bars that you see are the “weak spots” the enemy has. If you hit the enemy long enough to reach that threshold, the 50% more damage buff activates, thus enabling you to deal massive amounts of damage with your skills.

Now, it is unclear whether the damage buff actually applies regardless of the percentage of health the enemy has, so long as they have a weak spot. However, we can surmise that, at least, the buff will be in effect when you reach those thresholds.

In for the Kill

To cap off the ascendancy nodes for the Amazon, there is “In for the Kill.” This ascendancy node grants a 20% movement speed increase, as well as a 40% boost in skill speed if an enemy with an open weakness is in close proximity.

This basically means that as long as a rare or unique monster has weak spots (like the one pictured above), you will be able to move quicker and attack faster with your abilities.

The 40% skill speed increase is quite huge. Whether you are hurling spears from a distance or attacking your enemies at close range, you can do that significantly faster thanks to the buffs provided by the “In for the Kill” ascendancy node.

Final Thoughts

The Amazon is an offensive Huntress ascendancy class that specializes in critical hit chance, elemental damage, and high amounts of evasion.

We can see this ascendancy class blaze through the campaign thanks to the Azmeri Brew and Mystic Harvest.

Critical Strike and Penetrate is great for those who want to play a crit version of a PoE 2 Amazon build. You just need to use a weapon with a high amount of accuracy, which we can easily provide. Head to our PoE 2 Store to get such a weapon when Patch 0.2.0 drops on April 4!

We have mixed feelings about Elemental Infusion and Infused Avatar. On the one hand, the added elemental damage certainly improves mapping efficiency because of the various elemental explosions depending on the charges that were consumed.

However, we do not know for sure if there is a new way to generate Power, Endurance, and Frenzy Charges more consistently because such a mechanic does not exist yet for all of them (at least, at the time of writing this article).

If GGG does introduce that tech, then allocating Elemental Infusion and Infused Avatar can be a viable option, particularly if you do not want to go for the crit version of a PoE 2 Amazon build.

Predatory Instinct and In for the Kill look and function incredibly well. However, it still remains to be seen how consistent the “Open Weakness” mechanic is in practice. Is Predatory Instinct something that you have to do manually to discover the enemy’s weak spots or is that activated automatically upon seeing a rare or unique monster? That will be answered in Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt!
