There are 33 new support gems in Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients. These include the basic support gems, as well as the new lineage supports that you can start using at level 65. Patch 0.5.0 also added new Kalguuran supports, which utilize or alter certain aspects of supported skills that use the new resource called Runic Ward.

What Are the New Lineage Support Gems in Patch 0.5.0?

Lineage Support gems are the “unique” class of supports that provide better effects to supported skills than their “regular” counterparts. They are so powerful that you can only use one copy of a lineage support gem on your character. Unlike regular supports that you can get from an Uncut Support Gem, Lineage Support gems can only be obtained as a random loot or from specific monsters and bosses in PoE 2.

Having said that, there are 24 new Lineage Support gems in Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients. They are:

Arbiter’s Reach

PoE 2 arbiters reach

Arbiter’s Reach is a new lineage support gem in PoE 2 0.5.0 that provides Guard to allies in your presence while a persistent buff is active. Guard is a temporary buff in Path of Exile 2 that gets depleted before your life or mana when you get hit.

Take note that Arbiter’s Reach can only be slotted into auras (like Herald of Ash, Time of Need, and Ghost Dance), and it requires an additional 30 Spirit to use.

Atziri’s Communion

PoE 2 atziris communion

Atziri’s Communion is a new lineage support gem that was introduced in Patch 0.5.1. When socketed into persistent buffs, it reserves a portion of your life equal to 66% of the supported skill’s base spirit reservation. For example, when you put Atziri’s Communion into Cast on Critical (which requires 100 Spirit to activate), the latter will get activated by reserving about 66% of your maximum life.

So, if you have 2,000 HP, that translates to 1,320 HP. Atziri’s Communion is great if you are trying to create a “low-life” PoE 2 build.

Breachlord’s Amalgam

PoE 2 breachlords amalgam

Breachlord’s Amalgam supports lightning and cold skills in PoE 2 that fire projectiles when used. What this PoE 2 lineage support gem does is it makes projectiles from supported skills return to you, piercing all targets that are in their trajectory on the comeback. This comes at a cost, though, as Breachlord’s Amalgam imposes a 6-second cooldown on supported skills.

That said, Breachlord’s Amalgam is being utilized by most endgame Martial Artist builds in Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients, specifically socketed into Falling Thunder. To ensure that the said lineage support gem gets activated when used with Falling Thunder, you have to have a reliable way to generate Power Charges.

Catha’s Brilliance

PoE 2 cathas brilliance

Catha’s Brilliance is a new lineage support gem in Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients that makes Companions able to inflict blind and Ignite on enemies within a two-meter radius. Ignite’s damage from Catha’s Brilliance is equal to 10% of the supported minion’s maximum life, so you want to use companions that have a relatively high HP (such as Morvak, the Infernal, and The Great White One).

Eonyr’s Thunder

PoE 2 eonyrs thunder

Eonyr’s Thunder causes supported lightning skills to electrocute enemies that are hit. Electrocuted enemies explode on kill via Voltaic Fulmination, dealing up to 14% of their maximum life as lightning damage to nearby monsters.

Because skills supported by Eonyr’s Thunder cannot inflict Shock, it is best used on Herald of Thunder. You just have to find a way for Herald of Thunder to constantly hit enemies, which is why Spirit Walkers who use the Whirling Slash and Twister combo are frequent customers when it comes to utilizing Eonyr’s Thunder.

Esh’s Prowess

PoE 2 eshs prowess

Esh’s Prowess can only support lightning skills in PoE 2 that hit enemies. This is often inserted into Herald of Thunder, primarily so that the lightning bolts of the said skill only roll their minimum or maximum damage values (and nothing in between).

In some cases, Spirit Walkers improve their Vivid Stampede skill by using Esh’s Prowess.

Helbrym’s Hide

PoE 2 helbryms hide

Helbrym’s Hide supports skills that force you to shapeshift into an animal form, such as Ferocious Roar, Rend, and Rampage, among others. When you use a supported skill, you gain “Helbrym’s Composure,” which is a temporary buff that stores the damage you take for a short time. After that, you gain Guard and Rage equal to 50% and 3% of the stored damage, respectively.

Her Declaration

PoE 2 her declaration

Her Declaration is a new lineage support gem in PoE 2 Return of the Ancients that inflicts Intimidate on nearby enemies, causing them to take 10% increased damage from all sources, as well as make them deal reduced damage to you and your allies at the same rate.

This new lineage support gem can be used in any persistent buff or aura in the game. Some examples include Overwhelming Presence, War Banner, Malice, and Scavenged Plating, among others.

Medved’s Felling

PoE 2 medveds felling

Medved’s Felling provides a couple of effects that have something to do with Rage (the resource). First, it makes the supported skills grant 10% of your maximum Rage on a melee hit. Second, skills supported by Medved’s Felling have a 5% increased attack speed for every five points of Rage that you have. So, if your maximum Rage is 45, that translates to about 45% increased attack speed granted by Medved’s Felling.

If you’re wondering where Medved’s Felling is typically inserted into in PoE 2: Return of the Ancients, it is often paired with Titan Builds that use Shield Wall as part of their kit. The wall that is created by the said skill can then be shattered by other warcry skills, such as Ferocious Roar or Fortifying Cry.

Mórrigan's Insight

PoE 2 morrigans insight

Mórrigan's Insight consumes freeze on enemies to make the supported skill deal 50% more damage. Consuming freeze also triggers “Nature’s Exchange,” which grants some Guard and Cold Thorns damage.

Having said that, Mórrigan's Insight is typically used by the Grim Pillars Totem Oracle build in Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients. More specifically, it is socketed into Entangle, along with Branching Fissures II and Magnified Area II.

Olroth’s Conviction

PoE 2 olroths conviction

Olroth’s Conviction is a rather popular PoE 2 lineage support gem in Patch 0.5.0, especially for Spirit Walkers who have Primal Bounty. This is because Olroth’s Conviction provides two additional uses for skills that are empowered by Primal Bounty.

The only minor inconvenience here is that supported skills use runic ward as the resource instead of life or mana, which forces you to have runic ward on at least one or two pieces of equipped gear. Still, it is a good compromise, considering that Primal Bounty can now empower three projectile skill uses before it expires when Olroth’s Conviction is slotted into it.

Olroth’s Hubris

PoE 2 olroths hubris

Olroth’s Hubris causes supported attacks or triggered skills you use yourself to gain added cold and physical damage based on the additional runic ward cost of the supported attack or skill.

This PoE 2 lineage support gem in Patch 0.5.0 is usually utilized by Martial Artists who use Charged Staff. Other ascendancy classes that take advantage of Olroth’s Hubris include Spirit Walkers (Twister), Titans (Mace Strike), and Deadeyes (Ice-Tipped Arrows).

Prototype Seventeen

PoE 2 prototype seventeen

Prototype Seventeen supports any non-channeling skill in PoE 2 that you use yourself. This is often used by Martial Artists to empower Falling Thunder or by Spirit Walkers who want to improve Whirling Slash.

What Prototype Seventeen does is it increases the critical hit chance of supported skills by 20% for every five points of Rage that you have. All of your Rage is lost whenever the supported skill critically hits an enemy.

Seraph’s Heart

PoE 2 seraphs heart

Seraph’s Heart greatly improves your survivability. This is done by making enemy hits against you have a 20% chance to treat all your resistance values as being 90% while a persistent buff is active.

For context, the normal limit of resistances in PoE 2 is 75%, so you can see the value that Seraph’s Heart provides, especially since damage is mitigated as though you have 90% resistances.

The only issue here is that Seraph’s Heart requires 45 additional Spirit to use. Hence, most PoE 2 builds that utilize it equip a sceptre in the off-hand slot to accommodate it.

Styrn’s Ferocity

PoE 2 styrns ferocity

Styrn’s Ferocity is mostly used by Warrior builds in PoE 2, mainly to have an easier time breaking the enemy’s armor. This is because Styrn’s Ferocity “crushes” targets that are hit by supported skills, causing them to have 15% reduced physical damage reduction.

Subsequent hits against crushed enemies break their armor equal to 10% of the physical damage dealt. That is why Styrn’s Ferocity is used with Shield Wall to create temporary walls that can be broken by warcry skills, dealing physical damage to enemies in the vicinity.

Styrn’s Mountain

PoE 2 styrns mountain

Styrn’s Mountain can be used on Shield Charge, Resonating Shield, and Runic Reprieve. However, the vast majority of players utilize it on Resonating Shield, as the skill makes it easier to block incoming hits, thus unlocking the 20% more damage multiplier that Styrn’s Mountain provides.

Styrn’s Mountain also has the added benefit of significantly increasing your stun threshold for heavy stuns when you use Resonating Shield (or one of the skills that can be supported by this lineage support gem).

Tangmazu’s Thurible

PoE 2 tangmazus thurible

Spirit Walkers that are centered around Companions in Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients love using Tangamazu’s Thurible. This new PoE 2 lineage support gem makes Companions gigantic, gaining 20% more damage and 20% more life. Additionally, Companions get additional evasion and deflection rating per 10 points of evasion/deflection rating you have.

Tangmazu’s Thurible is typically inserted into Zekoa, the Headcrusher (found in Riverside and Rupture maps in the Atlas) or the Wild Protector (bear companion from the Spirit Walker ascendancy class).

Trickster’s Shard

PoE 2 tricksters shard

Trickster’s Shard supports non-instant spells you cast yourself, such as Barrage, Ice Nova, and Ice-Tipped Arrows, creating up to 4 Fractured Mimics in the process. Once several Fractured Mimics are on the field, they will cast whatever spell is supported by Trickster’s Shard.

This particular lineage support gem is typically used by Detonate Dead Abyssal Lich builds in PoE 2 0.5.0, mainly to have the mimics cast Entangle.

Tul’s Avalanche

PoE 2 tuls avalanche

Tul’s Avalanche can support cascadable spells like Flame Wall, Frost Bomb, and Bone Cage. Every time you block an incoming hit, you gain two seals (up to a maximum of four). Using the supported skill will break those seals, allowing them to echo once for every seal that is broken as a result.

“Echo” in Path of Exile 2 just means that the spell is cast again, often in the same location.

Uhtred’s Constellation

PoE 2 uhtreds constellation

Uhtred’s Constellation provides an 8% “more damage” multiplier for each skill with a cooldown used in the last eight seconds. This is typically used by Spirit Walkers, who have Barrage, Ice-Tipped Arrows, and Vivid Stampede on their skill bar.

In addition, Uhtred’s Constellation makes its supported skill have two additional uses, each having an independent cooldown. This effect is similar to Second Wind support, which is why Uhtred’s Constellation is also classified as such.

Uhtred’s Rite

PoE 2 uhtreds rite

Uhtred’s Rite is often used by Spirit Walkers in PoE 2: Return of the Ancients who have Ice-Tipped Arrows as part of their kit. This PoE 2 lineage support gem grants “Overflowing Chalice” when its supported skill is used. This makes your life and mana flasks gain two charges per second.

The Overflowing Chalice’s duration is equal to the cooldown time of the supported skill. In the case of the Ice-Tipped Arrows, the Overflowing Chalice buff should last for 12 seconds, since that is the amount of time that’s needed for the said skill to be usable again.

Vorana’s Siege

PoE 2 voranas siege

Vorana’s Siege is great in the hands of the Martial Artist, particularly those who have either Hollow Form or Hollow Resonance Technique allocated. What this lineage support gem does is it increases the area of effect of supported skills, dealing 20% more damage with hits against isolated enemies.

This is perfect for those who want to play a competent Hollow Form Martial Artist build in PoE 2: Return of the Ancients that is specifically meant to kill pinnacle bosses in the Runes of Aldur league.

Vruun’s Aftermath

PoE 2 vruuns aftermath

Vruun’s Aftermath is socketed into warcry skills in PoE 2 (like Ferocious Roar and Infernal Cry). Whenever you use supported warcries, they will make nearby ice crystals or ice fragments explode. Detonating at least five ice crystals/fragments this way will cause your next three attacks to be empowered.

If you’re going to use Vruun’s Aftermath, make sure that you use a skill that creates ice fragments/ice crystals. One common combo is Herald of Ice that is paired with Frozen Spite (support). Another viable option is Ice-Tipped Arrows, especially when using the new Spirit Walker ascendancy class in PoE 2: Return of the Ancients.

Vruun’s Inevitability

PoE 2 vruuns inevitability

Vruun’s Inevitability is often used by Martial Artists in PoE 2 0.5.0, mainly because of their easier time gaining combos with Martial Adept and Martial Master. Skills supported by Vruun’s Inevitability gain 6% increased area of effect per combo spent (up to 10 combos), so you can just imagine the screen-wide Whirling Slash, which is often the use-case for this particular lineage support gem.

These new lineage support gems in PoE 2: Return of the Ancients are mostly locked behind endgame content, some of which are very challenging to accomplish. If you want to skip the grind, you can get these new lineage supports from the RPGStash PoE 2 store.

PoE 2 Patch 0.5.0: New Kalguuran Supports

The PoE 2 Runes of Aldur league has introduced 7 Kalguuran support gems as well. These can be obtained randomly through the Verisium Remnants you can find throughout Wraeclast, mostly in the later acts of the campaign, as well as in the endgame through the Atlas.

What separates the Kalguuran supports from the regular support gems in Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients is that they consume runic ward to trigger their effects. That is why you have to consider putting runic ward on some pieces of your gear, particularly on the body armor or gloves.

The new PoE 2 Kaluguuran supports are as follows:

  • Concussive Runes: Causes a Runic Shockwave to occur upon heavy-stunning an enemy. You must have some runic ward for the shockwave to trigger. Concussive Runes are typically utilized by Martial Artists.
  • Fist of Kalguur: The Fist of Kalguur supports slam skills that you use yourself. When you have enough runic ward, this support gem empowers your slams to become “Runically Boosted,” granting them extra physical damage and a rune that erupts into an aftershock shortly after.
  • Healing Runes: This Kalguuran support gem is commonly used by Spirit Walker Companion builds in the Runes of Aldur league. This supports persistent buff skills like Discipline to heal nearby allies based on a portion of your runic ward every five seconds.
  • Runeforged Blades: The Runeforged Blades is a Kalguuran support gem that fires 7 projectiles in a circle when it consumes fully broken armor from an enemy. To utilize this PoE 2 Kalguuran support gem, you have to be able to break armor, either by utilizing Armour Break III or Uruk’s Smelting.
  • Runic Extraction: This Kalguuran support gem in Path of Exile 2 is best suited for builds that utilize skills that get improved when there are elemental infusions. Runic Extraction makes supported skills create what is known as “Verisium Infusion.” Skills that require infusions to gain special effects (like Spark and Firestorm) can consume Verisium Infusions instead.
  • Runic Infusion: Runic Infusion supports attacks that you use or trigger yourself. It spends 20% of your maximum runic ward to provide added physical damage equal to 25% of that runic ward cost. This is often inserted into Charged Staff or Wind Dancer.
  • Scouring Flame: The Scouring Flame significantly increases the magnitude of Ignites inflicted by supported skills. However, it also imposes an additional runic ward cost for casting them. Scouring Flame is typically used by fire-based Chronomancers or Smiths of Kitava who use Shield Wall (which is also supported by Fire Attunement because the said skill does not deal fire damage on its own).

How to Get the New Support Gems in PoE 2: Return of the Ancients

Most of the new support gems in Patch 0.5.0 can be obtained as random loot in the Atlas while mapping. They are quite rarer now than in previous expansions, so you have to be diligent enough in farming them.

Some of the lineage support gems are locked behind certain pieces of content in the Runes of Aldur league. For example, Tangmazu’s Thurible can only be obtained by defeating the Raven Trickster himself a number of times.

The new Kalguuran support gems can be obtained by interacting with the Verisium Remnants in the late game. Some have better luck obtaining them by doing the new Expedition questline, but your mileage may vary. You might get the new PoE 2 Kalguuran supports much sooner than that.

You can read our PoE 2 Runes of Aldur guide for more information about the league mechanic (particularly the Verisium Remnants.
