PoE 2 [0.2.0] Ritualist Ascendancy Class - Everything You Need to Know

The two ascendancy classes for the Huntress have already been revealed. These are the Ritualist and the Amazon. We will talk about the former today, so if you want to learn more about it, be sure to read this article to completion!

PoE 2 Ritualist Ascendancy Class

According to Grinding Gear Games, the Huntress has always been true to the traditions of the Azmeri Tribe. However, the Ritualist veers away from that, embracing the darker aspects that the tribe never wants to delve deep into.

That said, the Ritualist has some amazing ascendancy nodes that you definitely need to check out. If you are new to the game and do not know what ascendancy nodes are, be sure to check out our dedicated guide.

Corrupted Lifeforce

The Ritualist has two ascendancy nodes that grant skills and the first one is Corrupted Lifeforce. Allocating this node enables you to inflict Blood Boil. We have written this article prior to the release of Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt patch notes. However, from what we have seen, it looks like Blood Boil is a debuff that causes affected monsters to explode on death.

Unlike normal “death explosions” in PoE 2, where nearby monsters are harmed by a certain damage type, the explosion from Blood Boil-infected enemies spreads Corrupted Blood to those in close proximity.

Corrupted Blood acts similarly to bleeding but with some stark differences. One major difference is that this is a damaging debuff that stacks up to 10 times. It is a good debuff to apply, especially if your character is not fully geared yet. This is because you can eliminate monsters even if you only have budget gear at the moment since the damage from Corrupted Blood does not scale with your overall physical damage.

Also, you cannot scale the damage of Corrupted Blood in the same way as regular bleeding. This is because it is deemed as a “debuff” in the game and not a damaging ailment. Right now, there are only nodes that improve damaging ailments on the passive tree and no nodes specifically to enhance Corrupted Blood damage.

In most cases, Blood Boil is only great for mapping. You will find this of no good value when bossing unless the boss you are trying to kill brings multiple minions during the course of the encounter.

While we think Corrupted Lifeforce is a good ascendancy node to take early on, we believe that it will ultimately be respecced to the more interesting nodes available to the Ritualist instead.

Intricate Sigils

Intricate Sigils is an ascendancy node that allows you to use an additional Charm. Plus, it enables you to gain 20% more charm charges when eliminating monsters.

When you look at the effect of Intricate Sigils, you might think that it is nothing useful. However, that is not really true, especially when you factor in the new unique charms that will be added in Patch 0.2.0.

For instance, Beira’s Anguish is a new unique charm in PoE 2 that has a very good chance of igniting nearby enemies when you become ignited by their attacks. If you want to take advantage of Beira’s Anguish more consistently, then taking Intricate Sigils is a no-brainer.

Mind Phylacteries

If you want to grasp the effects of the new unique charms in Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt, you might as well take the next ascendancy node from Intricate Sigils called Mind Phylacteries.

While gaining 20% more charm charges is awesome, Mind Phylacteries is better because this ascendancy node lets your Charms activate just by spending 25% of your maximum mana.

You may need the Melting Maelstrom for this since the said unique mana flask can recover all of your mana in one use. Although Mind Phylacteries is a niche node, in our opinion, it is still worth looking at, particularly if you like any of the new unique charms in PoE 2 Patch 0.2.0.

Wildwood Persistence

The PoE 2 Ritualist is likely the best ascendancy class to use for self-damaging mechanics. Why? Because of her Wildwood Persistence ascendancy node, of course!

Wildwood Persistence increases your life recovery rate by 5% if you have an equal amount of missing HP. So, if you have about 90% missing life, then you will see your HP go up rather quickly when using a Life Flask.

What’s more, the Wildwood Persistence actually affects your passive life regeneration and recovery from life leech as well. The latter does not cover “instant” life leech, though.

Because of this ascendancy node, the Ritualist could be developed as an immortal mapping build in Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt with the right items equipped and passive nodes allocated.

As the Whispers Ask

This is the second ascendancy node that grants a unique skill, which is called the Ritual Sacrifice. What this does is it enables you to “sacrifice” a slain rare monster. By doing so, you get one of its modifiers for a brief period, possibly lasting anywhere between 10 to 30 seconds.

Now, we still do not know the actual limitations of this skill. If it is true that you only gain one mod from a rare monster, then “As the Whispers Ask” is a pretty underwhelming ascendancy node. However, if there is no limit to the number of monster modifiers you can get from Ritual Sacrifice, then you can probably just slap on the “Persistence” support gem so that the mods you get last a lot longer.

As the Whispers Ask functions similarly to Headhunter except that you only get a single modifier instead of all of them. If you want to buy the Headhunter instead, visit our PoE 2 Store today!

As the Whispers Demand

If the previous ascendancy node allowed you to get a random modifier from a slain rare monster, this next one lets you use Ritual Sacrifice on yourself to achieve the same thing!

As the Whispers Demand allows you to sacrifice 20% of your maximum life in exchange for a random monster modifier. You can only have one mod from doing this, which means that you can cycle through monster modifiers without the possibility of gaining all of them at a time.

Gaining only one modifier by using Ritual Sacrifice on yourself is a bit of a let-down. However, if there is any consolation, there are some awesome monster modifiers worth getting.

For instance, you could get the Soul Eater—a monster modifier that grants a 3% increase in attack/cast speed and a 2% additional damage reduction per stack (for a maximum of 45 stacks).

There is also a monster modifier that allows you to gain extra maximum energy shield based on 25% of your maximum life. With the Wildwood Persistence node mentioned earlier, it is safe to assume that most PoE 2 Ritualist Builds have a relatively healthy amount of HP, thus making the "Extra Energy Shield" mod worthwhile.

Unfurled Finger

Rings in Path of Exile 2 provide substantial increases in various stats, including life, mana, resistance mods, and attributes, among others. While you already get so much just by equipping two mirror-tier Breach Rings, just imagine if you have three!

Unfurled Finger is quite overpowered, to be honest. The ascendancy node's description says that you get an additional ring slot. If you have not played the game before, chances are that you will just scoff at it, not really understanding the implications of having an additional ring slot.

But, for the esteemed PoE 2 veteran, being able to equip one more ring is quite huge! Just by leveling with Unfurled Finger allocated, you can easily address any deficiencies you may have with your resistance modifiers, life, and attributes!

In the endgame, you get even more by wearing mirror-tier rings! If you want to heavily lean on improving item rarity, then you can certainly have up to 150% (or more) increased rarity of items found with the right accessories!

Mystic Attunement

In terms of unique items, Ingenuity is hands-down one of the most popular. It provides you with up to a 97% increased effect of modifiers of your equipped rings. Although this unique item will undoubtedly get nerfed in Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt, we still believe it to have the same modifier, albeit at a reduced magnitude.

Now, if you are going to wear three rings when playing the Ritualist in PoE 2, we highly recommend that you allocate Mystic Attunement as well.

Mystic Attunement is a watered-down version of Ingenuity, where your rings get a 25% increased effect of modifiers. However, there is one difference here in that this ascendancy node enhances the modifiers of your amulet by the same amount too!

Do you want to know how potentially overpowered Mystic Attunement is? If you want to use the Explosive Spear to great effect, for example, you could equip Fireflower as your amulet because of its "+(1-4) to All Fire Skills" unique modifier. If you have Mystic Attunement allocated, that modifier could be improved to +5 (assuming a max roll) or +7 (if you have a corrupted Fireflower amulet)!

By the looks of it, Mystic Attunement is a great way to boost underperforming unique items in Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt.

Final Thoughts

The Ritualist is one of the ascendancy classes available to the Huntress in PoE 2 Patch 0.2.0. She embraces the darker aspects of the Azmeri Tribe, engaging in ritual sacrifices to improve her power being one of the things she is willing to do.

Corrupted Lifeforce is a great ascendancy node to take for those early-game campaign rushers since it can decimate groups of enemies even with budget gear.

Intricate Sigils and Mind Phylacteries have pretty niche use cases. We believe that they are only good for those who want to utilize the new unique charms in Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt. Otherwise, we think that they will not be as popular as the next ascendancy nodes.

Speaking of which, As the Whispers Ask and As the Whispers Demand might be very popular since they allow you to gain monster modifiers for a brief period. Just slap on Persistence or any other support gem that grants the same thing. This is to ensure that you get the most out of the ascendancy nodes just mentioned.

And then we have Unfurled Finger and Mystic Attunement. There is no doubt that these two ascendancy nodes are a lock for pretty much most (if not all) Ritualist Builds in PoE 2. The fact that you can unlock an additional ring slot, let alone gain 25% increased bonuses from each one, is enough reason to take them both once you have unlocked the 2nd Ascendancy.
