Best Set Items in D2R 2.7

23946 0

Diablo II: Resurrected is an ARPG that allows you to farm a bunch of different items to make certain builds possible.

Although runewords provide more flexibility later down the line, the individual runes that you need to create them may be too expensive for you to obtain.

Fortunately, there are other items in the game that can still provide you with a lot of things, all without costing an arm and a leg.

In today's article, we will go over the best set items in D2R!

D2R Set Items: What Are They?

If you are new to Diablo II: Resurrected, you might be thinking what a set item is. Well, this is a category of items that already work well on their own, but their true power is unlocked when you wear at least two pieces from the entire set.

The Immortal King's set, for example, grants you a 50-point increase in attack rating when you equip two items from the set. However, you gain even more bonuses whenever you wear the entire five-piece collection, including +3 to skills, +450 to attack rating, and +50 to all resistances, among others.

You can easily spot if an item is part of a set or not simply by looking at the color of the text. If it has a green name, then that is surely a set item!

Most of the set items in Diablo II: Resurrected can be obtained as a rare drop from defeating monsters. However, there are items that can only drop when you eliminate certain monsters at specific difficulty levels.

D2R Best Set Items

While you can get more bonuses by equipping at least two pieces from the complete set, there are some set items that are just a cut above the rest. In other words, you can go away with just equipping one, especially if you already have some other items you wish to use later down the line.

With that out of the way, here are the best D2R set items you need to know about:

Helmets

Guillaume's Face

best_set_items_d2r_img1

Utility: Guillaume's Face is a great helm for Melee builds like Smiters, Zealots, Vengeance Paladins, Berserk Barbarians, Frenzy Barbarians, and Fury Druids amongst others. It is also a good helm choice for mercenaries.

Immortal King's Will

best_set_items_d2r_img3

Utility: If you are playing as a Barbarian in D2R and you wish to focus on Magic Find more than anything, then the Immortal King's Will is an incredible headgear. Although it lacks other stats that make this item great on its own, Immortal King's Will becomes so much better when you wear at least three other items from the set.

M'avina's True Sight

best_set_items_d2r_img4

Utility: Although the full set only truly benefits the Bowazon, M'avina's True Sight is a headgear that works great for builds that want to reach the higher IAS breakpoints. Due to its rarity, M'avina's True Sight is one of the most expensive set items on this list.

Sazabi's Mental Sheath

best_set_items_d2r_img5

Utility: Sazabi's Mental Sheath is an awesome alternative to the "Lore" runeword. This thing is best known for raising the level of your skills by one point. However, its +100 to defense, coupled with +20% to lightning and fire resistance, makes this an incredible mid-game helmet at level 43.

Where to Farm It: The Cow King (Hell Difficulty)

Ondal's Almighty

best_set_items_d2r_img6

Utility: Ondal's Almighty is a pretty decent and inexpensive helm for the bonuses that it gives. It is one of the only set items in D2R that allows you to cast a level 3 Weaken spell on the enemy simply by attacking with your other skills.

Weaken, for those who do not know, is a Necromancer-exclusive curse spell in Diablo II: Resurrected that reduces the damage that affected enemies may inflict upon you.

It also grants 24% Faster Hit Recovery, thus giving you an easier time to hit your preferred FHR breakpoint.

Utility: Among the pieces from Tal Rasha's set, Tal Rasha's Guardianship is actually one of the best items in Diablo II: Resurrected. It provides a considerable boost to your fire, cold, and lightning resistance, which addresses the heavy resistance penalty when playing in Hell Difficulty. Furthermore, you gain a huge increase in Magic Find, so if you want to farm highly coveted items in the endgame, then do take Tal Rasha's Guardianship into consideration.

You can even take things a step further by inserting up to four Shael runes to maximize its IAS potential! Aside from that, the weapon's 240% Enhanced Damage and 250% increased damage against undead enemies are no slouch either

Aldur's Rhythm

best_set_items_d2r_img18

Utility: Although the entire collection is a class set specifically made for the Druid, you can use Aldur's Rhythm when playing other classes as well. This is a great weapon when fighting against Act Bosses because such enemies are deemed as demons in D2R.

If that still does not convince you, Aldur's Rhythm gives you a huge boost to attack speed. And, if you want to survive in the higher difficulties, the 10% life steal and 5% mana steal can help immensely when it comes to sustainability.

Immortal King's Stone Crusher

best_set_items_d2r_img19

Utility: An amazing endgame weapon that you can consider using in Diablo II: Resurrected, Immortal King's Stone Crusher provides all of the damage bonuses that you need, including increased damage against demons and undead, Enhanced Damage, and 40% IAS.

On top of that, this weapon grants you a 40% chance of Crushing Blow. If you are new to the game, Crushing Blow allows you to take a considerable portion of the enemy's life, so you can imagine how useful Immortal King's Stone Crusher is when dealing with monsters in Hell Difficulty.

The only downside here is that the added cold damage you get from wearing four pieces from the Immortal King's set can shatter enemies. So, if you are going the Magic Find route, you are better off using another weapon instead.

Bul-Kathos' Sacred Charge

best_set_items_d2r_img20

Utility: Bul-Kathos' Sacred Charge has become even more useful in the latest patch thanks to the developers removing the annoying knockback effect from the weapon itself. This thing has got all the goods, including +200% Enhanced Damage, 35% chance of Crushing Blow, and +20% increased attack speed.

Take note that only the Barbarian can get the full set bonus. This is because the Barbarian is the only class in the game that is able to dual-wield Bul-Kathos' Sacred Charge and Bul-Kathos' Tribal Guardian.

Shields

Whitstan's Guard

best_set_items_d2r_img21

Utility: Whitstan's Guard is by far the best shield for blocking monster attacks in the entire game. It has decent defensive stats, especially when upgraded, and the 40% faster block rate (FBR) allows you to hit the 1-frame breakpoint quite easily.

Another notable thing to mention here is that Whitstan's Guard has that useful "half freeze duration" mod. This can help you deal with monsters that have the ability to freeze you with their attacks.

Anyway, due to its very high base block chance, you do not have to spend so many points on dexterity to achieve the maximum block chance of 75%.

Griswold's Honor

best_set_items_d2r_img22

Utility: Griswold's Honor is a very useful shield for melee Paladins, so much so that it is a great ladder starter item that you can equip from level 68 onwards. It gives you a whopping 65% increase in faster block rate (FBR), allowing you to achieve that 1-frame FBR breakpoint without breaking a sweat.

At some point, you're going to have to replace this with something even more useful. However, if you judge this item based solely on what it can offer, then Griswold's Honor is a decent choice for the shield slot.

best_set_items_d2r_img25

Utility: Trang-Oul's Claws are one of the only pairs of gloves in the game that grant a 20% Faster Cast Rate (the other being the Magefist, which is a unique item). Faster Cast Rate is a stat that is quite useful in almost all D2R builds as it reduces the frames necessary to complete a skill's animation.

Having said that, you can even gain more benefits from Trang-Oul's Claws if you play a Necromancer who focuses on applying curses and dealing poison damage.

Immortal King's Forge

best_set_items_d2r_img26

These gloves provide you with a decent increase in strength and dexterity, which alleviates the need to spend more points on the said attributes just to fulfill your gear requirements.

Additionally, that 12% chance to cast level 4 Charged Bolt aids in killing monsters that have attacked you recently.

Utility: Do you want to go from one point to another in a jiffy, especially early on when you do not have access to Enigma yet? If that is so, then you will be interested in Sander's Riprap.

Sander's Riprap is a part of the Sander's Folly set, which is a collection of items that are meant for any budding player in Diablo II: Resurrected. These boots are the earliest you can find in the game that offers +40% FRW.

The 100-point increase in attack rating is great at level 20 because it alleviates the need to put more points on dexterity just to address your overall accuracy.

Utility: Trang-Oul's Girth is a pretty useful set item known for granting you freeze immunity. This is a great alternative to Raven Frost, especially when you are playing a Frenzy Barb who is afraid of shattering enemies due to the added cold damage inherent in the said ring.

Other notable modifiers on Trang-Oul's Girth are +50 mana, +66 to life, and up to 100 defense.

Tal Rasha's Fine-Spun Cloth

best_set_items_d2r_img32

Utility: Tal Rasha's Fine-Spun Cloth is another popular item from Tal Rasha's set (next to the body armor). This belt gives some bonus MF, which factors into your endgame farming strategy. On top of that, if you wear at least three items from Tal Rasha's set, you gain an additional 10% FCR, which is always helpful for caster sorcs.

The 20-point increase in dexterity can aid you in fulfilling the stat requirements on your gear. In fact, you can wear a decent shield if your dex is high enough, which is something that this belt can help you with.

Utility: During the ladder season start, you can wear Credendum with pride. This is a rather simple belt. But make no mistake, this thing provides you with decent bonuses, including +10 strength, +10 dexterity, and +15 to all resistances.

Sure, this belt is outshined by other belts in the endgame (String of Ears comes to mind). However, this thing should help you get by until you can obtain a better one.

Death's Guard

best_set_items_d2r_img34

Wilhelm's Pride

best_set_items_d2r_img35

Utility: The Orphan's Call set contains a bunch of items that actually work pretty well on their own. One of the items in the collection is Wilhelm's Pride. What makes this set item interesting is that this is the only belt in D2R that grants dual leech.

When wearing the belt, you gain a sliver of HP and mana every time you land a successful hit on the enemy. When you equip the full set, you'll gain 85 HP, 20 strength, and 80% Magic Find, among others.

If you do wear the full four-piece set, you gain 25% all resists, 40% Magic Find, +10 dexterity, and +8% mana regeneration.

Utility: Tal Rasha's Adjudication is an exceptional amulet for the Sorceress, especially sorc builds that specialize in unleashing deadly bolts of lightning to their enemies.

The hefty boost in lightning resistance can address the resistance reduction brought by the Sunder Charm, Crack of the Heavens.

More importantly, Tal Rasha's Adjudication helps you reach the three-piece set bonus with ease, provided that you also wear the body armor and belt from the set.

Best Full Sets

Now that we have covered the best set item pieces, it is time for us to discuss their complete set bonuses in this section. Before we begin, it is worth noting that some of the entries here only work best when you wear all of the pieces of the set. The individual items of Iratha's Finery possess defensive modifiers that you could take advantage of, particularly when you are still leveling up your character.

However, put all of the items together and you will have a potent combination of modifiers that can help you survive even in Hell Difficulty.

The most notable bonus that Iratha's Finery provides is that it increases your maximum resistances by 10%. This includes fire, cold, lightning, and even poison resistance.

In addition, the +24% Piercing Attack bonus is great if you are using any projectile-based build, such as the Bowazon, for example.

At level 28, you can start to use Hwanin's Justice, which provides huge increases to both Enhanced Damage and attack rating.

Then, you have Hwanin's Blessing at level 35. This belt not only increases your defense by quite a bit, but it prevents monster heal as well. The said effect is great, particularly when you are fighting monsters in Hell Difficulty.

When you wear the entire set, you get a few more bonuses, including +2 to all skills, 30% FRW, and 20% life steal.

Despite its rather basic appearance, the Cow King's Leathers set is actually amazing for melee builds in Diablo II: Resurrected.

It not only gives you +20 to strength, but it increases your attack speed by a considerable amount as well.

On top of that, the Cow King's Leathers allow you to gain more gold from slain monsters. The set even raises your chances of getting better magic items too!

The Disciple is a 5-piece set that is not geared towards a specific class, though it works best for physical damage builds, mainly because of Laying of Hands.

If you are able to wear the full set, you can get +2 to all skills and +50 to all resistances, making The Disciple a good option for Nightmare and early Hell difficulty runs.

Tal Rasha's Wrappings is one of the best sets in the game, with some of the pieces being deemed the best in their respective slots for specific builds. The popular items from the collection include the belt, body armor, and amulet, though the rest of the pieces are good in their own way.

Having said that, equipping just the three mentioned above grants you a significant increase in MF, making them a prime choice for endgame farming. If you can stretch that to four pieces, then you also gain 25% FHR, which helps you get out of the stun lock animation quicker than not having the said stat.

Even though Tal Rasha's Wrappings is specifically made for endgame Sorceress builds, any build in D2R can greatly benefit from the set. Because of the set's powerful bonuses, expect to spend more high runes to obtain all of the pieces.

M'avina's Battle Hymn

M'avina's Battle Hymn

  • M'avina's Caster (Weapon)
  • M'avina's True Sight (Helmet)
  • M'avina's Embrace (Body Armor)
  • M'avina's Icy Clutch (Gloves)
  • M'avina's Tenet (Belt)

M'avina's Battle Hymn is a set that is meant to be worn by Amazons, specifically those who specialize in Freezing Arrow and other ice-based projectile skills. This class set is perfect for such because it provides a hefty increase in strength, dexterity, all resistances, and Magic Find chance. And oh, it also gives you +3 to Amazon Skill levels, which is always nice to have.

Even though it is outclassed by runewords and unique items later down the line, M'avina's Battle Hymn is something worth considering, particularly because the entire set is an affordable way of boosting your damage and survivability at the higher difficulties.

Trang-Oul's Avatar

Trang-Oul's Avatar

  • Trang-Oul's Guise (Helmet)
  • Trang-Oul's Scales (Body Armor)
  • Trang-Oul's Claws (Gloves)
  • Trang-Oul's Girth (Belt)
  • Trang-Oul's Wings (Off-hand)

Even though the Necromancer is the only class that can wear the full set (since the off-hand Cantor Trophy is tied to this specific class), you can still take advantage of what the other items in this collection have to offer.

Trang-Oul's avatar is composed of five pieces of gear, though only two of them are widely used in other builds; these being Trang-Oul's Claws and Trang-Oul's Girth. The former provides a Faster Cast Rate, while the latter has that very useful "cannot be frozen" modifier.

What's interesting about this set is that it grants you the ability to cast a few fire-based spells that were previously exclusive to the Sorceress, including Fire Ball, Fire Wall, and Meteor. Despite not dealing a huge amount of damage, these skills are amazing in terms of helping your allies defeat Hell's minions.

As an added benefit, you can transform into a vampire when you wear the full set! Doing so allows you to traverse the area quickly even when you set your character to "walk" only.

Aldur's Watchtower

  • Aldur's Rhythm (Weapon)
  • Aldur's Stony Gaze (Helmet)
  • Aldur's Deception (Body Armor)
  • Aldur's Advance (Boots)

Aldur's Watchtower is a set that grants you some amazing bonuses, such as 350% Enhanced Damage, 50% MF chance, and +3 to Druid Skills. Aldur's Advance is, of course, the most popular piece from this set because of the 40% FRW, as well as the huge increases in maximum stamina and fire resistance.

If we have to nitpick any piece of this set, it would be the body armor, Aldur's Deception. This thing, in particular, requires you to be at level 76 to wear, which means that it is outclassed by runewords and other unique items.

However, if that does not bother you, Aldur's Watchtower contains a bunch of modifiers that work great no matter what build you are running, not just for Druids.

The full set works great on Druid builds that focus on Fire Claws and Rabies to deal significant amounts of damage.

Griswold's Legacy

Griswold's Legacy

  • Griswold's Redemption (Weapon)
  • Griswold's Valor (Helmet)
  • Griswold's Heart (Body Armor)
  • Griswold's Honor (Shield)

Griswold's Legacy is the quintessential class set for Paladins. The individual pieces are already great on their own, but another thing that is worthy of note is that each set item can contain multiple sockets. All in all, you can achieve a maximum of 12 sockets that you can use to insert Ist runes, greatly increasing your MF chance. You can also put at least a couple of Shael runes on your weapon for even more attack speed!

Although certain runewords would eventually trump the entire set, Griswold's Legacy is something that you should consider getting, especially if you do not have the means of getting the more highly coveted RWs and unique items.

Immortal King's Set

Immortal King's Set

  • Immortal King's Stone Crusher (Weapon)
  • Immortal King's Will (Helmet)
  • Immortal King's Soul Cage (Body Armor)
  • Immortal King's Forge (Gloves)
  • Immortal King's Pillar (Boots)
  • Immortal King's Detail (Belt)

Among the many full sets in D2R that are mentioned in this article, only the Immortal King has six different pieces of gear to complete the collection.

The Immortal King is considered by many as the "OG" set for Whirlwind Barbarians. That is because of its collection of bonuses the more pieces you equip, including +3 to Barb skill levels, +50 all resists, and +450 to attack rating.

Those who intend to use the Immortal King's Stone Crusher would want to add sockets to the weapon via Larzuk's quest in Act 5. Doing so will allow you to insert Shael runes for even more attack speed, which is useful for achieving the 5-frame IAS breakpoint for the Whirlwind skill.

FAQ

Are There Ethereal Versions of Set Items?

Ethereal items are indeed some of the most coveted in Diablo II: Resurrected. That is because they offer higher offensive and defensive stats compared to their normal counterparts.

Having said that, we are sad to say that there is no Ethereal version of a set item in the game. This is likely because set items already provide you with bonuses, which can be fully unlocked when you wear all of the pieces from the collection.

Can You Upgrade Set Items?

Actually, you can! Upgrading set items is possible by taking advantage of several Horadric Cube Recipes. Here's a brief rundown:

  • Normal Set Weapon + 1 Sol Rune + 1 Ral Rune + 1 Perfect Emerald = Exceptional Set Weapon
  • Exceptional Set Weapon + 1 Pul Rune + 1 Lum Rune + 1 Perfect Emerald = Elite Set Weapon
  • Normal Set Armor + 1 Shael Rune + 1 Tal Rune + 1 Perfect Diamond = Exceptional Set Armor
  • Exceptional Set Armor + 1 Lem Rune + 1 Ko Rune + 1 Perfect Diamond = Elite Set Armor

Is It Possible to Create Runewords on Set Items?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to make runewords on set items in Diablo II: Resurrected. This is probably to prevent balancing issues, especially since some set items are already pretty good right off the bat.

How Do You Add Sockets to Set Items?

If you obtain a set item that does not contain any sockets, do not worry. There is a way for you to add some.

All you have to do is complete the Siege on Harrogath quest in Act V. After you finish the quest, go back to town and search for Larzuk. He will offer his services to you - one of which is adding sockets to set items.

Take note that as of the time of writing, this is the only way you can force sockets to set items in D2R.

Can You Remove Jewels, Gems, and Runes That Have Already Been Socketed Into the Set Items?

Yes! To do this, you have to obtain the Horadric Cube from Act 2. After that, simply place the item with socketed gems that you want to remove inside the cube, along with a Hel rune and a Scroll of Town Portal. Hit "Transmute" when you're ready.

best_set_items_d2r_img52

Horadric Cube Recipe (Remove Socketed Gems)

Keep in mind that the socketed gems, jewels, and runes will be completely destroyed, meaning, you won't be able to get them back. Only do this if you are sure you are ok with the outcome.

Conclusion

Set items in Diablo II: Resurrected are things that have a bunch of bonuses that you cannot find anywhere else. Although you can wear individual pieces without any issues, their true potential is unlocked whenever you wear the entire set.

There are class-specific sets like Immortal King and Griswold's Legacy. Additionally, there are those that you can have your mercenary wear, such as Guillaume's Face and Tal Rasha's Horadric Crest.

While most set items that are currently in the game will ultimately be outclassed by some unique items and runewords, they are still quite viable to use, especially if you do not have the means of obtaining the more expensive stuff.

That being said, if you are tired of grinding for set items and whatnot, do not worry. We've got you covered! For a hassle-free way of obtaining highly coveted items, visit our dedicated D2R store. You can Buy Legit D2R Items from Rpgstash.
