D2R Season 12 Guide: Builds, Ladder Start & Updates

It has been almost three months since Blizzard launched Season 10 of Diablo II: Resurrected. So, this begs the question—when will D2R Ladder Season 11 begin? In this article, we will go over what we know about the game's next season so far, as well as the things that we would like to see.

Launch Date

For those who are new to Diablo II: Resurrected, a ladder season is where you can start the game with a fresh economy, allowing you to create a new set of characters to climb the leaderboards. If you want to reach the top 100 players in Season 11, head to our D2R Store to acquire all the items you need for a smoother playing experience!

Having said that, there is still no formal announcement from Blizzard when the D2R Ladder Season 11 will commence. It was previously speculated that the new season is coming on June 6, given that D2R Season 10 launched on December 7.

Usually, Diablo II: Resurrected has seasons that last over a period of three months. So, based on historical data, you would expect Season 11 to begin later this week, right? Well, that is not the case. However, we have reasons to believe that it will still be in June, albeit much later in the month.

You see, Diablo III Season 35 is going to be released on June 6. It is highly unlikely that Blizzard will launch new seasons for two different games at the same time because that will spread the player base thin. Additionally, Season 9 of Diablo IV is set to launch on July 1.

That is why we believe that the most likely release date for D2R Ladder Season 11 is June 20. This is because it would give D3 players two weeks to enjoy Season 35, leaving D2R players to begin a new season without worrying about Diablo IV.

As with previous seasons, you have several different modes to choose from, such as:

  • Pre-Expansion Ladder: This mode provides you with content only on the first four acts of the game. What this means is that your adventure culminates in defeating the Lord of Terror, Diablo.
  • Pre-Expansion Harcore Ladder: This is the same as the above except for one major difference: You only have one life. That's right! When you play this mode, dying is not an option as it will result in a permanent death!
  • Standard Ladder: This is the mode that you want to play in because it encompasses all content related to Diablo II: Resurrected, including the Diablo II: Lord of Destruction expansion. Vanquish Baal and hire a bonafide Barbarian mercenary to help you defeat him.
  • Hardcore Ladder: Do you have what it takes to survive? This is akin to the Standard Ladder, albeit dying will make you lose the race. Only choose the HC Ladder if you are already familiar with the game and that you use a "defense-first" approach.

Once again, Diablo II: Resurrected Ladder Season 11 is most likely going to be launched on June 20 for all supported platforms.

What's New?

At the time of writing, Blizzard has not released any updates regarding new content in Diablo II: Resurrected Ladder Season 11. However, the community is hoping that the company will add something new since Season 10 is devoid of any changes to the game itself.

D2R Season 11 gives you an avenue to start fresh, with a chance to prove yourself by rising to the top of the leaderboards. Be sure to check out our D2R guides if you need some inspiration about viable builds in Diablo II: Resurrected.

How About the WASD Movement Feature?

Before Season 9 for Diablo II: Resurrected was launched, Blizzard decided to not implement the highly anticipated WASD feature as it was buggy. For instance, using the W, A, S, and D keys to navigate your way through the game made it impossible for you to interact with anything, such as highlighting monsters or taking stuff in and out of your inventory using a mouse.

The said feature wasn't good enough for launch in Season 10 either, so the company has also elected to not implement the WASD movement scheme in the current ladder season. That leaves us with Season 11.

After two whole seasons, is Blizzard finally confident enough to include the WASD movement scheme in Ladder Season 11, given the immense public clamor for the said feature? Unfortunately, the company has not made any statement about that at the time of writing. We can only say that enough time has passed for a relatively huge company like Blizzard to iron out the kinks of the WASD movement feature. We hope that it will be part of the new ladder season in D2R.

Will Diablo II: Resurrected be fine without it? Absolutely! We will give you suggestions on what D2R builds you can use as your ladder starter in the next section so that you'll have a seamless experience!

Best D2R Builds for Season 11

So, what are the best builds to start Diablo II: Resurrected Season 11 with? Assuming that there are no balancing changes in the upcoming season, here are the ones that we certainly recommend:

Mosaic Assassin

Arguably the best ladder starter for D2R Season 11, the Mosaic Assassin beats the competition with her versatility and insane damage output. This build utilizes a couple of fast-attacking claw weapons with the Mosaic Runeword on each one. The dual Mosaics pretty much enable this Assassin Build to use finishing moves without consuming charges, thereby ensuring maximum damage at all times.

If you want to try this D2R build in the first week of the new ladder season, visit our Diablo II: Resurrected Store to find the Advanced Mosaic Assassin Pack! It contains all of the build's essentials, including the dual Mosaics, Enigma, and the Gore Rider, among others.

Hammerdin

The Blessed Hammer Paladin (or the "Hammerdin" for short) is a staple among D2R ladder starters due to the simple fact that it can function with modest gear. All you really need to have it running is a Spirit sword and shield, the Lore Runeword for the helmet, and the Stealth Runeword for the body armor. With these items, you can reach Hell Difficulty and defeat Baal without any problem whatsoever!

If you're wondering why this is one of the best D2R builds out there, it is because the Hammerdin deals considerable amounts of damage. Its primary skill, Blessed Hammer, can be cast in quick succession, which then fills the screen with multiple projectiles moving in a circular fashion that eliminates any monster in proximity.

Are you interested in playing the Hammerdin in Diablo II: Resurrected Season 10? You can check out our dedicated Hammerdin build guide.

Blizzard Sorceress

Almost every D2R Sorc Build can be a viable ladder starter when built right, but the Blizzard Sorceress is definitely a cut above the rest in terms of sheer power relative to investment. This build utilizes both Blizzard and Frozen Orb to decimate the minions of Hell with deadly cold damage!

Once you have acquired Nightwing's Veil, the Blizzard Sorceress truly takes off! This unique helmet amplifies the damage of Blizzard and Frozen Orb considerably and it's not even expensive! You can buy the Nightwing's Veil in our D2R Store.

Summon Necromancer

If you are into the minion playstyle, commanding a legion of the undead to do the dirty work, then we highly recommend that you play the Summon Necromancer in Diablo II: Resurrected Season 11.

This build, as you can tell, summons a plethora of minions that consist of an Iron Golem and a bunch of skeleton warriors to kill the forces of evil. If you don't want your minion army to have all the fun, you can even utilize Corpse Explosion to destroy any monster that comes your way!

Have we piqued your interest? You can read our D2R Summon Necromancer guide for everything that you need to know about this build!

Fist of Heavens Paladin

There are only a handful of magic-immune monsters in D2R. If you want to play a build that deals magic damage consistently, then look no further than the Fist of the Heavens Paladin (more commonly known as the FOHdin).

The FOHdin can cast a powerful bolt from the heavens that deals lightning damage on the initial impact, and magic damage with the resulting holy bolts that spread out from the main target.

Do you want to get the FOHdin up and running once the Ladder Season 10 starts? You can get the most optimal gear for the Fist of the Heavens Paladin in our shop!

Nova Sorceress

The last entry on the list is definitely not a slouch. If anything, it’s one of those D2R builds that will just wow you with its mechanics and fun playstyle. We’re talking about the Nova Sorceress, of course!

What makes the Nova Sorc special, you ask? Well, it is one of the only builds in the game that ties great offense with equally amazing defense. Nova is a powerful lightning spell that deals massive damage in an area, allowing you to kill multiple monsters at once. Couple this with the Static Field and you’ll have no problems killing even the toughest bosses in the game!

Furthermore, the Nova Sorceress uses Energy Shield for defense. Along with Telekinesis, this build is virtually unkillable when you have the right items. The only thing that can probably kill you is server lag, though that is unlikely if you have a good internet connection.

We have a comprehensive D2R Nova Sorceress guide if you are interested in using this build as your ladder starter for Season 11.

Changes Players Want in Diablo II: Resurrected Season 11

After two seasons of no meaningful changes, the community wants Blizzard to implement something new to keep Diablo II: Resurrected fresh and appealing. Here is a list of the changes players want to see in D2R Season 11:

Rebalanced Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis, for those who don’t know, is a D2R Runeword that is meant to make shapeshifting Druids a thing. The main selling point of Metamorphosis is that those who wear this helmet runeword are given two different “Marks” depending on the form they shapeshift into.

Striking enemies while in Werewolf Form grants Mark of the Wolf, which provides a 30% bonus to attack rating and an increase to maximum life by 40%. Mauling the minions of Hell while in Werebear Form, on the other hand, grants Mark of the Bear—a temporary buff that provides 25% increased attack speed and 20% physical damage reduction.

The problem with Metamorphosis is that the conditional buffs are too cumbersome to get, especially if you just want to have them buff the Druid’s other skills.

Many have proposed to have those marks implemented as permanent stat boosts rather than something that can only be acquired after satisfying certain conditions. To put Blizzard’s mind at ease, the company could make this a reality, albeit at readjusted values so as to not make Metamorphosis a must-have for all Druid Builds in D2R.

Make Teleport More Accessible

In most D2R Builds, you are encouraged to wear Enigma to gain access to Teleport. This Sorceress-specific skill is great for moving in and out of large areas in the game. However, this posed a problem where people are pigeonholed into getting it over other more interesting runewords, such as Chains of Honor, Fortitude, etc.

That said, the community is clamoring for Blizzard to make balancing adjustments to Enigma somehow to make other D2R Runewords more appealing. If a change has to be made, the company could make Teleport unaffected by FCR. The slower animation could encourage people to try other body armor as a result.

Moreover, adding more Faster Run/Walk speed modifiers (aka FRW) could make other D2R Runewords for body armors more enticing. All of the proposed changes are good considering that Enigma will still be available in the game, though not as overpowered as it is now.

Buff Up the Barbarian

Barbarian is considered one of the worst classes in the game in the current season. It is not that it’s that bad, but it’s just trumped by other classes, including the Assassin, Sorceress, and Paladin.

In most cases, the Barbarian is often played only as a support role in Diablo II: Resurrected, which is probably not something that Blizzard has envisioned for the said class. So, to make D2 Barbs great again, there are a couple of adjustments we’d love to see.

First, the attack rating requirement for melee weapons is much more pronounced on the Barbarian than on the other classes in D2R. Blizzard can either increase the attack rating granted for each point of dexterity or improve Barbarian-specific gear like the Immortal King’s Set to have bonuses to accuracy.

Second, Blizzard needs to improve Barbarian skill synergies. For instance, Whirlwind does not have skill synergy at all. Although it encourages skill diversity, not having other abilities that boost the damage of Whirlwind is disappointing.

In contrast, Frenzy has four skill synergies, including Double Swing, Taunt, Increased Stamina, and Berserk. With that said, one way to buff the Barbarian is to have at least one skill that synergizes with another (but only up to a maximum of two).

Make Melee Paladins Great

The Paladin is supposed to be a hybrid class in Diablo II: Resurrected. However, the best builds for the Paladin are often those that require the casting of magical abilities like Blessed Hammer or Fist of the Heavens.

Some players would like Blizzard to make melee Paladins great. For example, Zeal is good as a way to quickly eliminate enemies. However, it’s fairly limited in dealing with multiple monsters since the skill can only hit a single target at a time.

Charge is also an awesome skill for both mobility and damage. The problem is that it still hits only one enemy. Maybe Blizzard can add an AoE component to the said skill, where a shockwave is produced once the main target is hit, thus affecting multiple monsters in the process.

Encourage Build Diversity for Necromancers

Most Necromancers in the current season have been using Corpse Explosion to deal with the enemy. We understand why—it’s an exceptional skill for damaging and clearing packs of monsters in an instant. The problem is, other skills are left behind because of that.

To encourage people to try other Necromancer Builds in D2R Season 11, Blizzard could buff up the skeletal minions, golems, and bone skills like Bone Spear and Bone Spirit. Perhaps, the company could give minion builds the power to summon more than one golem at a time. That would be amazing for sure!

Currency Stash Tab

Diablo II: Resurrected is an ARPG where most of your time will be spent farming endgame items and valuable runes. Considering that this is already a remastered version of the classic, one would think that there are huge improvements to the game, right? While the graphics and UI have certainly received a facelift, there are still more features that are left that can be included; one of which is the Currency Stash Tab.

This stash tab is specifically to house all D2R currency items, such as various runes, jewels, and possible new socketable items in the future. After 11 seasons, we believe that it’s high time for Blizzard to include a Currency Stash Tab into their game. In fact, even selling a currency stash tab for $5 a pop is fine for the vast majority of players.

New Endgame Content

The addition of Terror Zones in D2R was a good way to encourage players to farm and enjoy the game for a bit longer before they try out other titles. However, there has been community clamor for new endgame content.

Maybe, Blizzard could introduce a new dungeon where players are pitted against the game’s toughest bosses in one spot. If that’s not possible, the company could launch several new recurring events that will keep the game more enticing for longer periods of time.

Closing Thoughts on Diablo 2 Resurrected Season 11

Diablo II: Resurrected Season 11 does not have a definitive release date yet. However, there are compelling reasons to believe that it will launch later this month, possibly on June 20.
