Diablo 4 , Game Guides

In the previous Diablo games, Blizzard allowed players to get some pretty awesome bonuses in the form of set items. These are pieces of gear and accessories that, when equipped together, provide a bunch of bonuses that you cannot get anywhere else. There is one problem, though, in that 99% of the builds are forced to wear set items just to unlock the true potential of their builds.
That issue was quite apparent in the previous Diablo game. Fortunately, that is no longer the case in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred. Blizzard has found a way to introduce set bonuses in the form of the new Talisman System, which I will discuss in greater detail in this article. That is why I invite you to read on to learn more.
With the launch of the Lord of Hatred expansion, you might have problems getting good gear. If you want to access the true power of your build, head over to our D4 Store so that you can get all of the best items without the arduous grind!
What is the Talisman System in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred?

The Talisman System is Blizzard’s way of giving you powerful set bonuses without actually having to wear certain D4 items just to unlock them. Instead of pieces of gear, you will insert Seals and Charms that are contained within their own UI to get a hold of such power.
Speaking of which, the Talisman has two major components. The first is the Horadric Seal, which provides the slots necessary for you to place the Charms in. Early on, the Seal only gives you about three slots to work with. However, you will obtain a Horadric Seal that unlocks the full six slots, though it is quite rare and is only available in higher Torment Difficulties.

It is important to note that certain Seals may restrict you from using a particular set of Charms. You will know this when you are barred from inserting that Charm into one of the slots, even though they are empty. If this happens, you’ll have to find a different Charm that you can use or insert a different Horadric Seal altogether.

The second major component is the Charms themselves. These are items that actually provide the set bonuses I was talking about earlier in the article. Take note that the Charms you’re going to get at the beginning of your journey are of Magic or Rare rarity, and they only give generic bonuses at most. It isn’t until you finish the campaign and you’re in Torment Difficulties that you start to get Charms with class-specific bonuses.

How to Unlock the Talisman Slot
The good news is that the Talisman does not have any special requirements whatsoever. As soon as you start the Lord of Hatred campaign, the Talisman Slot is already available, and you can begin acquiring Seals and Charms as you progress through the story.
How Charms Work in Diablo 4
While the Horadric Seal provides the platform where you can put your Charms, it is actually the Charms that you are after, since they are the ones that give you the power that you need to defeat the forces of evil.
That said, there are four different types of Charms, such as:
- Magic Charm (Blue): Has 1 random affix
- Rare Charm (Yellow): Has 2 random affixes
- Unique Charm (Brown): Has 2 random affixes and a unique power
- Set Charm (Green): Provides either generic or class-specific bonuses
The Rare Charm is actually useful, especially when you are still trying to complete the LoH campaign. You will occasionally find Rare Charms that give additional skill ranks throughout your journey, so be sure to utilize those that are appropriate for your build.

The Unique Charm can be obtained randomly by doing endgame activities in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred. There is also a certain Horadric Cube Recipe that allows you to extract a Unique Charm from an Ancestral Unique.

While the Unique Charm offers something new to the table, it is actually the Set Charms that you’re after. As their name implies, you need to insert a group of Charms from the same set in order to unlock those bonuses. You will know if those bonuses are active when you see the Charms themselves glow bright green on the UI.

How Charm Set Bonuses Work
To avail the Charm set bonuses, you need to put at least two Charms of the same set. When you hover over each set charm, you will know the other remaining pieces that you need in order to complete the collection.
Now, there are two types of set charms. The ones that you can get early on in your progression are set charms that only give generic bonuses, such as increased attack speed, bonus kill experience, etc.

Once you are in the endgame and at higher Torment levels, you will start to see class-specific set charms drop. These set charms are going to be pivotal in helping you unlock the true potential of your build.
For instance, there is a certain set charm that provides a considerable chance for Storm Skills (like Tornado and Cataclysm) to be cast twice or thrice. If your build specializes in such skills, then it would be wise to utilize the entire set for maximum benefit!

If you only need the 3-piece set bonus, then you can populate the remaining open slots with a couple of unique charms that work for your D4 build. This is assuming that you have the right Horadric Seal equipped as well.
How to Get Charms
Blizzard really wants you to get the most out of your build. That is why Charms are just a random drop in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred. I find that you get the more generic ones in Torment I and below. However, the drop chance for more valuable charms increases exponentially the moment you step into Torment II to Torment XII.
I also recommend that you complete your War Plans playlists because they offer a ton of Charms as rewards upon completion.

The Undercity
Another area where you can get Seals and Charms for your Talisman guaranteed is through The Undercity. More specifically, when you start a run using a Tribute of the Horadrim.
You can craft a Lesser Tribute of the Horadim from the Occultist. When you’re completing endgame activities, such as World Bosses and War Plans playlists, you will get a higher-tier Tribute of the Horadrim, which you should use instead of the “Lesser” variant.

Crafting via Horadric Cube
You can utilize the Horadric Cube specifically to create Unique Charms. To do this, you will need the following:
- 1x Ancestral Unique Item
- 3x Unique Charms
- 1x Enhanced Primordial Dust
- 50x Raw Primordial Dust
- 100x Infused Horadric Resin
It may seem counterintuitive at first, considering that you actually need three Unique Charms to complete this process. However, its true value lies in your ability to put any unique item of your choosing, so long as it is of “Ancestral” quality.
For example, let’s say that you are playing a Paladin build, and you want to create a unique charm fashioned from Griswold’s Opus. You can definitely do that by putting the said unique sword into the Horadric Cube along with the other ingredients the recipe needs.
As for the other Unique Charms, you can acquire them just by doing endgame activities at higher Torment Levels. I suggest that you start working on your War Plans as soon as possible!
