Blizzard is set to release Diablo 4 Season 12 this week. Also known as Season of Slaughter, it will be the shortest season for the game to date. This is due to the fact that it only bridges the gap between the past season and the Lord of Hatred expansion, which launches on April 28.

Despite the short season, Diablo 4 Season 12 is meaningful because you’ll have the chance to become one of the most iconic characters in the game. I think you already have an idea just based on the title of the upcoming season, but in case you don’t, then read further to learn more! Expect to get new D4 unique items, conquer new content, and a whole lot more!

Diablo 4 Season 12 Overview: Theme and Mechanics

Diablo 4 Season 12 Overview

Are you a lifelong fan of the Diablo series of games, and have been wanting to become the Butcher yourself? Well, your wish will be granted in Diablo 4 Season 12, where you will have a chance to become the formidable Butcher by interacting with the new seasonal mechanic!

To become the Butcher, you have to complete a quest called “A Taste of Power.” This will be handed out to you as soon as you start your seasonal journey. At some point during the said quest, you will have a glimpse of the power that you can wield when you transform into the Butcher!

A Taste of Power Quest

After completing the quest, you cannot simply transform into the Butcher at a whim, as there are certain conditions that have to be met. First, you need to obtain the Meaty Offering, which is a new rare consumable item in Diablo 4. The Meaty Offering is sacrificed in the Shrine of Slaughter that can be found in Heltide.

Meaty Offering Sacrifice

When you interact with the Shrine of Slaughter in Helltide, the “Grisly Metamorphosis” event commences, and you will be surrounded by a bunch of monsters shortly after. Of course, defeating them is not a problem, considering that the Butcher is a melee powerhouse that can pull enemies with his hook and destroy them with a strong furnace attack that hits multiple monsters at once.

Grisly Metamorphosis Event

There is another avenue in the game where you can play as the Butcher—the Fields of Hatred. Once you arrive at this place, there is a special zone called the “Ceremony of Slaughter,” where killing enemies fuels your savagery.

After the ceremony is finished, you can take The Butcher’s Idol, which transforms you into the fearsome powerhouse while you’re in the Fields of Hatred.

What can you get from playing as the Butcher? Aside from gaining access to some pretty fun abilities, killing enemies as the Butcher will allow you to earn a new currency aptly called “Fresh Meat,” which can be exchanged for the new Bloodied Items.

Now, if you want to enjoy the fearsome demon for longer periods of time, you can enter the Slaughterhouse. This is a seasonal new activity in Diablo 4 that puts you inside an instanced dungeon, where you can play the Butcher from start to finish.

Diablo 4 Seasonal Mechanic: Killstreaks

In Season 12, Blizzard is experimenting with new mechanics that the company might implement in the upcoming Lord of Hatred expansion this April. This time, you will leverage the Killstreak System, where you can gain powerful bonuses for a brief period after slaying monsters in quick succession.

There are several tiers in the Killstreak System, such as:

  • Killstreak
  • Carnage
  • Devastation
  • Bloodbath
  • Massacre

To make sure that you get the most out of this mechanic, it is best that you use the best speedfarming builds in Diablo 4, including the Evade Spiritborn, Wing Strikes Paladin, and Crackling Energy Sorcerer, among others.

It is also important to note that Blizzard promises to buff up the Bloodied Items in Diablo 4 Season 12 in response to the feedback the company has gathered during the recent PTR.

Diablo 4 Bloodied Items: What Are They?

Bloodied Items are equipment in Diablo 4 that have special affixes that are related to the Killstreak Seasonal Mechanic. D4 items have a chance to obtain one of three bloodied affixes, namely:

  • Rampage: Provides bonuses that scale in power based on your current Killstreak Tier (ex. increased movement speed)
  • Feast: Grants combat bonuses based on your total kills in your current killstreak. For instance, one of your skills will be reset if you reach a certain number of kills.
  • Hunger: Customizes the frequency or type of item that is rewarded to you, which scales with your Killstreak Tier. For instance, killing elites can make runes drop more frequently.

Aside from items that can drop during your seasonal journey, the ones being sold by the special vendor can roll with Blooded Affixes as well. Remember to farm a lot of Fresh Meat to get your preferred Bloodied Item in Diablo 4 Season 12!

Diablo 4 Bloodied Dungeon Keys

The core premise of an ARPG is to build a character that is fast and powerful enough to slay monsters and get valuable loot. In Diablo 4 Season 12, the various dungeons in the game receive the "bloodied" treatment and require special keys to enter.

For example, you need to get your hands on the Bloodied Nightmare Sigil if you want to enter a dungeon that holds great rewards for the brave adventurer. Keep in mind that some dungeons have the "Relentless Butcher" affix, which means that you’ll have to stop the Butcher as he pursues you non-stop.

Bloodied Dungeon Key Example

There are also bloodied keys for the Infernal Hordes and Lair Bosses. Additionally, the "Relentless Butcher" affix means that the Butcher is just a part of what you’ll face in those dungeons. He will not replace the boss in the area, making things more difficult yet more rewarding for you.

Take note that these special dungeon keys only drop in Torment Difficulty. These dungeons scale one Torment Difficulty higher than your current one, so come prepared, or the Butcher will make quick work of you!
