Diablo 4 Season 12: What to Farm and Save Before March Launch
20.02.2026 - 14:34:35
Diablo 4 , Game Guides

In just a few weeks from now, Blizzard is going to drop Diablo 4 Season 12. That is why you want to make sure that everything is in order before the new season launches on March 10.
Having said that, you are probably wondering what you should do. You’re probably a complete beginner, or you’re still relatively new to the game, and I understand that. And that is why this is your guide on what to farm and save before the Season 12 launch in March 2026.
Overview of Season 12 and Why Preparation Matters
The Sanctification Gear System is gone in Diablo 4 Season 12. Instead, it is replaced by the new Killstreak Mechanic, where you gain some awesome bonuses and power-ups based on how many monsters you have killed in succession.
Some of the Best D4 items that you can expect in the new season are “Bloodied Items,” which contain perks that get unlocked when you reach certain killstreak tiers. For example, there is a bloody two-handed axe that grants the “Berserking” buff to you for six seconds after slaying 25 monsters in a short period of time.
That said, preparation matters here because you want to have a smooth experience when D4 Season 12 launches in March. Here is a checklist of what should be done prior to the release of the next season:
Discover the Altars of Lilith

A new season of Diablo 4 means a fresh start. Although you cannot bring items that you have collected in the season prior to the new one, there are certain things that carry over. One of these is your progression toward the Altar of Lilith.
The Altar of Lilith is an object that you can interact with in Diablo 4. There are about 160 Altars of Lilith scattered across different regions in the game, such as:
| Region | Number of Altars |
| Scosglen | 34 Altars |
| Hawezar | 34 Altars |
| Dry Steppes | 33 Altars |
| Kehjistan | 31 Altars |
| Fractured Peaks | 28 Altars |
When you look at it, 160 altars are a lot, but what I did to make completing this endeavor a bit more bearable is to concentrate on one region and then move on to the next. This is because some altars are situated relatively close to each other, so you don’t have to venture too far if you are to focus on a per-region basis.
Anyway, Season 11 has changed the rewards for the Altars of Lilith in Diablo 4. Basically, you now get some bonus EXP, gold, and gem fragments when interacting with an altar for the first time. As a result of this change, you can either discover the Altar of Lilith when the new season launches or do it now so you don’t have to think about it later. It’s your call, Champ!
Explore the Various Regions
Blizzard lets you explore all of the regions in Diablo 4, and the progression remains the same even if you create a new character in Season 12. This means that you can pre-order the Lord of Hatred expansion, play the Paladin, and then go on horseback to remove the fog of war that engulfs the regions of Scosglen, Hawezar, Kehjistan, Fractured Peaks, and Nahantu.
Yes, that’s right! Buying Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred gives you access to the Vessel of Hatred expansion as well, which unlocks the region of Nahantu, and subsequently the quests that lead to the resurrection of Mephisto, among others.
Once you are done exploring stuff in the Eternal Realm, the gulf of war will not be present as soon as Season 12 begins. Since you still have a couple of weeks to explore Season 11, you might as well log in and try things out for yourself while you still have time.
Get a Feel for the Classes
If this is your first time playing Diablo 4, there are seven classes in the game, including:
- Barbarian
- Sorcerer
- Druid
- Necromancer
- Rogue
- Spiritborn
- Paladin
You can only choose the Paladin if you’ve pre-ordered the Lord of Hatred expansion. That said, each class provides a different experience. If you want to know how they perform, here is a quick summary:
| Class | Why You Should Choose It |
| Barbarian | +Solid melee fighter, with strong skills like Hammer of the Ancients and Whirlwind +Although it is a bit clunky, the Barbarian boasts immense strength and survivability |
| Sorcerer | +The quintessential mage class in the game +Proficient in elemental magic, with effective skills like Crackling Energy, Blizzard, and Hydra |
| Druid | +Another melee class that is strong in both AoE damage and overall badassery +Choose this one if you like a class that can shapeshift into a Werewolf or Bear +Also has the ability call forth some animal companions to do the dirty work |
| Necromancer | +Great for minion and self-cast builds +Encase enemies in a bony prison at will |
| Rogue | +Speedy and efficient in farming The Pit +Can be played as a melee or ranged character, depending on your needs |
| Spiritborn | +Has strong synergistic skills +Has the ability to slay enemies just by using Evade indefinitely |
| Paladin | +Very strong melee class that can pick enemies apart from afar using magical hammers +Currently, the most overpowered class in the game |
The reason why I recommend that you try each of the classes in Diablo 4 is so that you will find exactly what class you prefer based on your playstyle. If you are an entirely new player, start with the Paladin or the Barbarian, as they have some of the easiest mechanics to understand.

Once you get the hang of things, you can switch to the Sorcerer or Rogue. After that, you can experiment with the Druid, Necromancer, or Spiritborn and see if you find any of them to your liking.
Due to the Killstreak Mechanic in Diablo 4 Season 12, you’ll want to use a character that you are most comfortable with to maximize the bonuses it gives.
Gold and Currency Management
There are various types of currency in Diablo 4. Although you cannot bring the D4 currencies you have saved if you are planning to participate in Season 12, they will still be available on your characters in the Eternal Realm (provided that you are playing D4 right now).
Having said that, here are the most important currencies in Diablo 4 that you need to be aware of:
- Gold: D4 Gold is one of the main currencies in the game. It is primarily used to avail of the different services offered by NPCs, including the tempering of your gear via the Blacksmith, re-rolling affixes on your equipment from the Occultist, and crafting elixirs and incense from the Alchemist.
- Obols: This purple-colored currency is utilized primarily for gambling items from the Purveyor of Curiosities. You can farm Obols by completing the Kurast Undercity Tributes or opening the chests in Helltides.
- Forgotten Souls: Obtained as a reward for completing the Kurast Undercity objectives or through salvaging Ancestral Legendary Items, Forgotten Souls are essential for upgrading your gear. It is also the currency that the Occultist requires for rerolling one of your gear’s affixes.
- Obducite: The Obducite is a necessary ingredient for masterworking gear in D4. You can farm Obducite by using the right Nightmare Dungeon keys or Kurast Undercity tributes.
Once Season 12 launches, complete Helltide Events and Nightmare Dungeons to get a steady supply of Gold and Obducite. Obols and Forgotten Souls will come naturally once you have progressed through the game.
