How We Ranked the D4 Classes and Builds
The best Diablo 4 builds that you see in this article are selected based on the following criteria:
- Effectiveness: How effective they are in the categories they are in.
- Progression: Builds that have a smooth progression from start to finish are ranked higher than others.
- Playstyle: D4 builds that are needlessly complicated have been omitted. Only the top builds that are relatively easy to play are highlighted in this guide.
- Potential: All builds in this article have huge potential in the endgame, especially in terms of power that can be gained from gear upgrades. Builds that have a ceiling are not included.
Best D4 Builds for Leveling
Dance of Knives Rogue
The Dance of Knives Rogue is a high-mobility build in Diablo 4 that has a very smooth leveling progression. Dance of Knives is a channeled skill that prompts the Rogue to spin around, hurling knives at enemies and dealing damage to them in the process.
Shadow Clone is a good complementary skill for this build because it grants Unstoppable for several seconds, as well as Ferocity stacks for more damage and attack speed while it’s active. Choose Preparation for the Rogue specialization to gradually decrease the cooldown of Shadow Close, allowing you to use it more frequently.
The real strength of the Dance of Knives Rogue is the ability to pick enemies apart rather easily. The only issue here, at least in the early game, is that the build has mediocre single-target damage.
Blizzard Sorcerer
The Blizzard Sorcerer takes advantage of the New skill system implemented in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred. This is because the build utilizes the “Static Field” variant of the said skill, which turns Blizzard into a Shock Skill, allowing it to get damage bonuses from Unstable Currents and the Aspect of Splintering Energy.
If you’re going to play this D4 build, the Blizzard Sorcerer may have a rough time in the earlier levels. However, once you’ve reached level 38 and unlocked the Static Field Blizzard, then this build becomes smooth-sailing from that point onward.
Minion Necromancer
The Minion Necromancer in the current version of Diablo 4 is one of the best leveling builds in the game. This is because it does not require any legendary aspects to pull off. However, you do have to take advantage of the Necromancer’s Book of the Dead because you will take certain upgrades, including Defenders (Skeletal Warriors), Shadow (Skeletal Mages), and Blood (Golem).
Your role when playing this D4 build is to be a minion commander. Command your minions to gain certain bonuses. For instance, commanding your Blood Golem grants Unstoppable and taunts nearby enemies to get the heat off of you.
Best D4 Builds for Endgame Farming
Whirlwind Barbarian
There is a reason why the Whirlwind Barbarian has been a top contender in Diablo 4 for a few seasons now. It is because this build has a combination of easy/laid-back playstyle and strong damage output that only gets better when you equip it with the Best D4 items.
One of the main unique items for this build is Gohr’s Devastating Grips, which makes Whirlwind deal increased damage and grants it the ability to pull enemies toward you. Thanks to the most recent update, getting Gohr’s Devastating Grips as a Mythic Unique has become a bit easier than before.
If there is any downside to this build, it is that the true endgame version requires quite a lot of Iconic Mythic Uniques, such as the Ring of Starless Skies, The Grandfather, and the Melted Heart of Selig for maximum performance.
Rain of Arrows Rogue
The Rain of Arrows Rogue is a strong endgame farmer and competent bossing build in Diablo 4. However, it does require certain breakpoints to be met in order to function optimally. Not only do you need to have at least 225 Maximum Energy, but you also have to have a maxed-out Aspect of Aftermath and 25 skill ranks to Rain of Arrows to completely remove its cooldown.
While the gear requirements are steep, the Rain of Arrows is a very powerful build once it is fully functional. Tap Cold Imbuement, move around the map using Shadow Step and Dash, and then use Rain of Arrows until the enemy is wiped out. Use Heartseeker to group enemies together, making it easier for Rain of Arrows to destroy them in one fell swoop.
Storm Shred Druid
While many feared that the Storm Shred Druid would be gutted due to a recent patch, that is not the case. The Storm Shred Druid can still take advantage of “snapshotting,” where spamming the button for Shred instead of holding it down can continuously proc the 2-set bonus of the Storm Shepherd's Call talisman set, granting it a huge damage increase.
Because of how quickly this build can attack its enemies, the Storm Shred Druid can replenish its life rather quickly just by using its primary skill. The only disadvantage here is that this build requires you to be in melee range, which can be problematic against Astaroth, Duriel, or Lord Zir, who have abilities that leave damaging ground effects.
Best D4 Builds for Pit Pushing
- Evade Counterswarm Spiritborn: Still an awesome build despite the two updates that have been released for the current season so far. It has good mobility thanks to Rushing Claw and strong damage output due to the interaction with the Tzic Rune (yes, it still works to this day).
- Flame Charge Barbarian: By using Charge’s “Battering Ram” variant, the Flame Charge Barbarian can rush towards enemies, leaving a damaging trail of fire in its wake. You supplement that with the Writhing and Wanton Rupture Legendary Aspects, as well as the Shattered Vow, and you have a build that deals huge amounts of damage over time. This build does require the Chainscourged Mail to work. Otherwise, you level up with a different Barbarian build until you can get that particular item.
- Firewall Sorcerer: Another strong DoT build, the Firewall Sorcerer uses Habacalva’s Cauldron talisman set for even more damage. Because of this, Firewall now needs to be cast manually, as opposed to its speedfarming variant, where manual casting is not required due to Tal Rasha’s Threefold Way set. Be that as it may, it currently holds the top spot on the unofficial Pit Leaderboards for Diablo 4 for the Sorcerer Class.
Best Beginner-Friendly D4 Builds
- Heartseeker Rogue: A build that relies on a basic attack skill, the Heartseeker Rogue is one of the most beginner-friendly builds in Diablo 4 because of that. You can create this as your very first build, and you can progress to its endgame variant, where you deal more cold damage thanks to complementary pieces, such as Paingorger’s Gauntlets, Scoundrel’s Kiss, and Shard of Verathiel.
- Whirlwind Barbarian: The Whirlwind Barbarian has that iconic “spin-to-win" playstyle, where you can literally press and hold one button, and see enemies drop down like flies shortly after. While its endgame variant does require some pretty rare Mythic Uniques, the build’s playstyle remains one of the easiest in the game, regardless of the gear dependency.
- Blood Wave Necromancer: Yet another “one-button” build, the Blood Wave Necromancer comes alive thanks to the “Hematolagnia” variant of Blood Wave, which makes the skill spammable and only requires Essence to do so. This build has all of the goodies, including fast gameplay, one-button playstyle, and high DPS, so you can’t go wrong with it in the current season of Diablo 4.
Current Season Notes
Blizzard has released a couple of updates for the current season that have implemented the following notable changes:
- You can now equip more than one crafted Mythic Unique item. Mythic Uniques are awesome because their unique powers have a 30% increased effectiveness over their regular counterparts.
- Iconic Mythics, like The Grandfather and Ring of Starless Skies, now drop more frequently from the new pinnacle boss (the Corrupted Reaper). A later patch will be released soon that will improve the drop rate of Mythic Uniques in The Undercity.
- The Tzic Rune, especially in the hands of the Evade Counterswarm Spiritborn, still has that bug that amplifies the damage of all skills for the said build (not just Concussive Stomp). This has not been fixed at the time of writing.
- The Storm Shred Druid can still take advantage of that “snapshotting” bug, where continuously pressing the button for Shred procs the damage bonuses from the Waxing Gibbous and the 2pc Storm Shepherd’s Call talisman set.

What is the Strongest Build in the Current Diablo 4 Season?
The Whirlwind Barbarian and Rain of Arrows Rogue are great builds for almost all content in the game.

How Does the Change in Mythic Uniques Affect Builds in the Current Season?
Thanks to the Mythic Uniques 3.0 system, it is now possible to upgrade unique items to “Mythic” rarity, granting them a 30% increase in their unique powers.
