Genshin Impact Yanfei Build Guide

The best Genshin Impact Yanfei build depends on the role you want her to fill. Most of the time, she works best as an on-field Pyro DPS built around Charged Attacks and reactions. At C4, though, she can also run a shield-support setup.
Yanfei is not a top-tier Pyro carry, and she does not need to be. She is easy to play, comfortable at range, and has a simple loop: build Scarlet Seals, spend them on stronger Charged Attacks, and try not to burn through all your stamina.
For DPS, go with 4-piece Crimson Witch of Flames for reaction teams or 4-piece Wanderer’s Troupe for a simpler Charged Attack setup. At C4, you can stack HP and Energy Recharge instead, since her shield only comes from her fourth constellation.
Yanfei is just one of the many amazing Pyro characters in the game. For a complete list of Genshin Impact Pyro characters, check out our guide.
Yanfei Role and Playstyle
Yanfei is a ranged Pyro catalyst DPS built around Scarlet Seals and Charged Attacks.
The basic loop is simple:
Build seals → spend them on Charged Attacks → trigger reactions → repeat
Her Normal Attacks generate Scarlet Seals, which make her next Charged Attack cheaper and stronger. At C0, she can hold up to three seals, while C6 raises that to four.
A simple combo is:
Normal Attack x3 → Charged Attack
Her Skill gives her a full stack of seals when it hits, and her Burst makes it easier to keep those Charged Attacks going. A common rotation looks like:
Team setup → Burst → Charged Attack → Skill → Charged Attack → Normal Attacks into more Charged Attacks
Just do not mash Charged Attacks nonstop. They still cost stamina, and running out right before you need to dodge feels terrible. Build your seals first and leave yourself enough stamina to move.
Yanfei also works best with reaction teams. Vaporize is the classic setup, Overloaded suits her ranged playstyle well, and Burgeon can work if you build around Elemental Mastery and Dendro Cores.
She is easy to pick up, but good rotations still matter. If your supports' buffs or off-field abilities have already expired, keeping Yanfei on the field usually means you are just doing less damage.
Best Yanfei Artifacts
The best Yanfei artifacts depend on which version of her you are building.
For Main DPS Yanfei, focus on CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, ATK%, Pyro DMG Bonus, and some Elemental Mastery if you are playing around reactions.
For C4 shield support, the priorities change completely. You mainly want HP% and Energy Recharge so her Burst is ready and her shield is actually worth using.
Best Artifacts for Main DPS Yanfei
4-Piece Crimson Witch of Flames
Crimson Witch of Flames is a strong choice for reaction teams, especially Vaporize setups. It boosts Pyro damage and works well when Yanfei is consistently triggering reactions.
That said, do not force a bad four-piece set. A mixed setup with much better substats can easily perform better than a Crimson Witch set with terrible rolls.
4-Piece Wanderer's Troupe
Wanderer's Troupe is a very comfortable option because it directly boosts Charged Attacks and gives Elemental Mastery.
It is also easier to build for a lot of accounts since you naturally collect pieces from bosses. If your Wanderer's set has better CRIT stats than your Crimson Witch set, just use it.
Yanfei Artifact Main Stats
For Main DPS Yanfei, aim for:
- Sands: ATK% or Elemental Mastery
- Goblet: Pyro DMG Bonus
- Circlet: CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG
ATK% Sands is the safer general pick. Elemental Mastery can work well in reaction-heavy teams, but only if Yanfei is actually triggering those reactions consistently.
For substats, aim for:
CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG → ATK% → Elemental Mastery → Energy Recharge
Your weapon and team can shift those priorities a bit.
Best Artifacts for C4 Shield-Support Yanfei
C4 support Yanfei, usually called Tankfei, is built very differently.
Her C4 creates a shield when she uses her Burst, and that shield scales with Max HP. That means you want enough Energy Recharge to Burst on time, then stack HP from there.
A simple setup is:
- Sands: Energy Recharge or HP%
- Goblet: HP%
- Circlet: HP%
For substats:
Energy Recharge → HP% → Flat HP
The exact artifact set matters less than getting enough Energy Recharge and HP.
Just remember that this build only works at C4 or higher. Before that, Yanfei does not get the Burst shield, so stacking HP on her does not really serve a purpose.
Best Yanfei Weapons
The best Yanfei weapons depend on your build. Main DPS Yanfei wants CRIT, ATK, or useful damage bonuses, while C4 support Yanfei gets more value from HP and team utility.
Best 5-Star Weapons for Yanfei
Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds is a strong Main DPS option thanks to its CRIT Rate and on-field passive. Since Yanfei likes staying active during her damage window, it fits her playstyle well.
Skyward Atlas is another solid choice with plenty of ATK. You may need to work a little harder on your CRIT stats, but if you already own it, there is no reason not to use it.
Yanfei does not need a 5-star catalyst to work, though. Do not pull one just for a small upgrade over a good weapon you already have.
Best 4-Star Weapons for Yanfei
The Widsith is one of her best 4-star options. It gives CRIT DMG and a strong temporary buff when Yanfei takes the field. The buff is random, so every rotation will not be identical, but the weapon can still hit hard.
Solar Pearl is another decent option. Its CRIT Rate makes artifact building easier, though its passive does not benefit every part of Yanfei's Charged Attack-focused damage equally.
Best Yanfei F2P Weapons
For a Yanfei F2P build, Mappa Mare is a usable craftable option for reaction teams thanks to its Elemental Mastery.
Before spending billets, though, check what catalysts you already own. There is no point crafting and refining a weapon you are likely to replace right away.
For C4 shield support, Prototype Amber is the standout option. It gives HP while adding healing and energy-related utility after using a Burst. Since Tankfei already wants HP and needs her Burst to create a shield, the weapon fits the build nicely.
Yanfei Talent Priority and Constellations
For Main DPS Yanfei, level her talents in this order:
Normal Attack → Elemental Burst → Elemental Skill
Her Charged Attack damage scales with her Normal Attack talent, so that comes first. Her Burst is next since Brilliance supports her Charged Attack playstyle, while her Skill is usually the lowest priority.
For C4 shield support, you do not need to heavily invest in her offensive talents. Her shield comes from her C4 constellation, not from leveling her Burst.
Which Yanfei Constellations Matter Most?
C1 makes Charged Attacks easier on your stamina, which is a nice comfort upgrade for Main DPS Yanfei.
C2 gives her extra CRIT Rate against enemies below 50% HP.
C4 is the big one for support builds. Using her Burst creates a shield based on her Max HP, which is what makes Tankfei possible.
C6 raises her maximum Scarlet Seal count and improves her Charged Attack loop.
You do not need C6 to play Yanfei. C1 already makes her smoother, while C4 gives her a completely different support option.
Best Yanfei Team Comps
The best Yanfei team comp lets her stay on the field while her teammates provide reactions, buffs, healing, or shields. Set everything up, swap to Yanfei, and let her start throwing fire.
Yanfei Vaporize Team
A classic setup is:
Yanfei + Xingqiu or Yelan + Bennett + Anemo or shield support
Xingqiu and Yelan provide off-field Hydro, while Bennett brings healing and an ATK buff. Your last slot can add resistance reduction, grouping, or extra protection.
Try to line up Yanfei's damage window with your team's buffs and off-field abilities. If everything has expired and Yanfei is still attacking, it is probably time to restart the rotation.
Other Hydro characters like Mona aren't a good fit for Yanfei. Mona can be a good DPS but not a good applicator of the element. If you want to maximize your use of Mona, we’ve got a great guide for her at RPG Stash.
Yanfei Overloaded Team
A simple Overloaded core looks like:
Yanfei + off-field Electro DPS + Chevreuse + another Pyro or Electro character
Yanfei handles Overloaded nicely because she attacks from range, so enemies getting knocked around is less annoying. Fischl is an easy off-field Electro option.
For Chevreuse teams, stick to the Pyro and Electro requirements needed for her buffs.
Yanfei Burgeon Team
A basic Burgeon setup uses:
Yanfei + Hydro + Dendro + sustain or another enabler
Hydro and Dendro create Dendro Cores, then Yanfei uses Pyro to trigger Burgeon. It works, but it takes more setup than Vaporize.
You need enough Elemental Mastery on the character triggering Burgeon, good Hydro and Dendro application, and enough sustain to deal with Burgeon's self-damage. It is fun, but probably not the first Yanfei team I would build.
Budget Yanfei Team
A simple lower-cost setup is:
Yanfei + Xingqiu + Bennett + Anemo Traveler or another support
You do not need a team full of limited 5-stars. Just give Yanfei teammates who can do their jobs from off-field.
Avoid stacking several characters who all want long field time. Yanfei wants to stay active during her damage window, so three other Main DPS characters will make the rotation a mess.
C4 Shield-Support Yanfei Team
At C4, Yanfei can fill a completely different role. Build enough Energy Recharge, use her Burst to create a shield, then swap to your Main DPS.
The main thing is Burst consistency. More HP means a stronger shield, but that does not help much if you cannot get her Burst back for the next rotation.
Common Yanfei Build Mistakes
Yanfei is easy to pick up, but a few mistakes can make her feel much worse than she should.
Spamming Charged Attacks without Scarlet Seals
This burns stamina and ignores the main mechanic behind her Charged Attack loop.
Build your seals first.
Staying on the field too long
Yanfei's attacks do not suddenly stop working when your buffs expire, which makes it easy to overextend her field time.
Learn your team rotation instead of attacking until something forces you to stop.
Building C4 support Yanfei before C4
No C4 means no constellation shield.
An HP-stacking pre-C4 Yanfei is not a shield support. She is just a Yanfei doing less damage.
Forcing a bad four-piece artifact set
A 4-piece Crimson Witch setup with awful substats is not automatically better than a strong Wanderer's Troupe set or a temporary mixed setup.
Use the pieces your account actually has.
Ignoring Energy Recharge on Tankfei
Her shield is tied to her Burst. No Burst, no shield.
This build needs enough Energy Recharge to work inside your actual team, not in a perfect imaginary rotation where every particle lands exactly where you want.
Is Yanfei Worth Building?
Yanfei is worth building if you enjoy her Charged Attack playstyle, want a comfortable ranged Pyro DPS, or have reached C4 and can use her as a niche shield support.
For casual players, she is easy to like. Her attacks have good range, her gameplay loop makes sense quickly, and she can handle plenty of general overworld and progression content without demanding a highly specialized setup.
For F2P players, she is a reasonable character to invest in if your account needs an on-field Pyro DPS and you already have suitable teammates. She has usable four-star and craftable weapon choices, and Wanderer's Troupe pieces can build up naturally over time.
Just remember that F2P does not mean free to build. Talents, levels, artifacts, and weapons still cost a pile of resources. It is better to build one functional Yanfei team than level ten random characters halfway and run out of Mora.
For players who already own and have heavily invested in stronger premium Pyro carries, the answer depends more on personal preference.
Yanfei probably will not replace a well-built limited 5-star DPS purely because you gave her a decent artifact set. If your only goal is clearing hard content as efficiently as possible, you may get more value from investing resources elsewhere.
But Genshin is not a job interview for your roster.
If you like Yanfei's animations, ranged Charged Attacks, voice lines, or general feel, she is perfectly capable of handling a lot of content with a proper team. And if you reach C4, the Tankfei setup gives her a second life even on accounts that no longer need another on-field Pyro carry.
That flexibility is probably her best selling point.
She can be the character standing on the field throwing flaming legal arguments at enemies, or she can show up, cast a shield, and immediately leave.
Honestly, pretty efficient for a lawyer.
Need Items or Currency?
Building another Genshin character can chew through Mora, upgrade materials, and other resources faster than expected, especially when you are raising a weapon and talents at the same time. FAQs
What is the best build for Yanfei?
For Main DPS Yanfei, use a Charged Attack-focused setup with 4-piece Crimson Witch of Flames in reaction-heavy teams or 4-piece Wanderer's Troupe as a strong general option. Prioritize CRIT stats, Pyro DMG Bonus, and ATK or Elemental Mastery depending on the team.
At C4, Yanfei can instead run an HP and Energy Recharge-focused shield-support build, often with Prototype Amber.
Is Yanfei good at C0?
Yes. C0 Yanfei can work perfectly well as a Main DPS for general content and many team setups.
Her constellations improve comfort and flexibility, with C1 helping her Charged Attack stamina management and C4 opening the shield-support build. She does not need C6 just to function.
Is Yanfei better as a DPS or support?
Before C4, build her as a DPS.
At C4 and above, both roles are available. Main DPS Yanfei is the better pick if you enjoy her on-field Charged Attack gameplay and want her dealing damage. Shield-support Yanfei is more useful if your account already has a stronger Main DPS but needs defensive utility and a Pyro catalyst support.
The better build is the one that fills an actual gap in your team rather than the one with the fanciest damage screenshot.
