The Invoker was once an S-Tier ascendancy class in Path of Exile 2. Although it fell off a couple of tiers in the Rise of the Abyssal League, it is still pretty good in what it can do, especially with the knowledge that we now possess.
Today, we are going to talk about the Flicker Strike Invoker. What makes this build a popular one in PoE 2 Patch 0.3.0? If you want to know why, then read this build guide to completion!
As always, we would like to invite you to our PoE 2 Store. We sell a wide variety of useful stuff in the game, including currencies like PoE 2 Divine Orbs, items like mirror-tier quarterstaves, unique items like Ingenuity, and more!
Why Play the Flicker Strike Invoker?
Are you interested in a PoE 2 build that can zip around maps, jumping from pack to pack, and destroying everything in its wake? If so, you will definitely love the Flicker Strike Invoker!
The core of this build is Flicker Strike—a melee skill in Path of Exile 2 that allows you to teleport to a monster, hitting additional targets when you have some Power Charges active. This skill cannot generate Power Charges by itself, so you’ll have to rely on the trusty Ice Strike to do that for you.
Ice Strike and Charged Staff provide a one-two combo that not only lets you deal devastating cold damage, but some shocking lightning damage as well. Thanks to this combination, you can inflict Freeze and Shock on the enemies at the same time!
Now, to get the most out of Flicker Strike, you need to have a consistent way to generate Power Charges. And no, this does not involve the Resonance keystone at all because it is actually quite clunky for this purpose.
Instead, you are going to utilize Profane Ritual, which is automatically cast by the meta-skill, Cast on Freeze. Basically, Profane Ritual lets you generate Power Charges by marking corpses. The AoE chaos damage is just a bonus but you are really using it only for consistent Power Charge generation.
Another Cast on Freeze setup will be used on the Flicker Strike Invoker build in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict. This particular setup has the Voltaic Mark to make it easier for you to inflict Shock with Ice Strike and Flicker Strike. Just activate this one when fighting bosses.
Since Flicker Strike does not scale with physical damage, you can focus on elemental damage instead. That is why you will see added fire damage, cold damage, and lightning damage on some of the build’s best pieces of gear. Don’t worry, we will go over them in the gear section of this PoE 2 build guide.
So, why is the Invoker chosen for this build rather than other ascendancy classes in PoE 2 Rise of the Abyssal? Well, the Invoker can easily generate energy for Cast on Freeze thanks to his “The Soul Springs Eternal” ascendancy node.
I am the Blizzard and Sunder my Enemies ensure that you deal the most amount of damage to your enemies at all times.
This build requires a ton of Spirit because you will activate plenty of persistent auras and meta-skills. For this reason, the Invoker’s “Lead Me Through Grace” ascendancy node is mandatory for everything to work nicely.
Here is the ideal order of ascendancy nodes to take for the Flicker Strike Invoker in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict:
- I am the Blizzard
- The Soul Springs Eternal
- Sunder My Enemies
- Lead Me Through Grace

If you want to know the best modifiers on the pieces of gear for the PoE 2 Flicker Strike Invoker, here is a brief rundown:

Playstyle
When mapping, make sure that the Cast on Freeze (Profane Ritual) setup is active. This lets you kill monsters with Ice Strike to gain Power Charges. As soon as you have Power Charges, activate Charged Staff and use Flicker Strike on groups of monsters. When you Flicker Strike on enemies, you will zoom around the map as long as you still have some Power Charges left. That is why this build is one of the best mappers in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict!
During boss fights, deactivate Cast on Freeze (Profane Ritual) and replace it with the other Cast on Freeze (Voltaic Mark) setup. Manually cast Profane Ritual on your Skeletal Warrior minions to gain your initial set of Power Charges. Activate Charged Staff, cast Infernal Cry, and then use Flicker Strike on the boss and it should be eliminated shortly after!
You need to be acquainted with the weapon-swapping system in order to use Profane Ritual on boss fights. If you want to learn more about this, read our PoE 2 Weapon Set Skill Points Guide.
Flicker Strike Invoker Gear Recommendations
Most of the pieces of gear you should equip are those that contain both evasion and energy shield. This is especially true for the body armor because the amount of Spirit the “Lead Me Through Grace” ascendancy node will provide depends on its total EV and ES values. More on this later.
While we have previously mentioned that this build benefits immensely on elemental damage, having physical damage on your weapon, gloves, and rings is not bad at all. That is because it still scales the damage of Ice Strike, which is one of the skills you will use for mapping and bossing.
Weapon
The ideal quarterstaff base to use for the Flicker Strike Invoker is the Bolting Quarterstaff. If you have played the first version of Path of Exile 2 Early Access, this was previously known as the “Expert Crackling Quarterstaff.”
Anyway, the Bolting Quarterstaff is used because of its innately high elemental damage, to begin with. This is further improved by adding more sources of flat fire, cold, and lightning damage, as well as increased elemental damage with attacks.
For the suffixes, go with critical hit chance as a top priority. Increased attack speed is second and the critical damage bonus comes in last. Of course, you can buy a good quarterstaff from our PoE 2 Store if you want!
It is always a good idea to corrupt your weapon. Hopefully, it will result in an additional rune socket so that you can insert the Soul Core of Ticaba for a total of 36% increased critical damage bonus!

Weapon 2
Your second weapon set is primarily to let you cast Profane Ritual on Skeletal Warriors. The Skeletal Warrior minions, in this context, come from the Rattling Sceptre. Get one that has increased minion life and increased Spirit. All other modifiers are just welcome additions.

Now, what is the ideal offhand to pair the Rattling Sceptre with? Well, you have a few options. You can use a Caster Focus with increased cast speed and “+ to Level of All Spell Skills” to make Profane Ritual a lot smoother to use.

Since you will sacrifice your Skeletal Warriors to gain Power Charges, you might want to use Enezun’s Charge instead. This wand has a unique effect that gives you a 25% chance to not destroy your minions when casting Profane Ritual on them.

The Redblade Banner is probably the mediocre of the bunch yet it still provides some value to the Flicker Strike Invoker. What this unique shield does is it amplifies Infernal Cry, granting more fire damage whenever it is cast.
Dealing considerable fire damage to the enemy causes them to be Ignited. When they are affected by this condition, they will receive fire damage over a short period of time, which still contributes to your overall DPS.

Body Armor
One of the most important pieces of gear for the Flicker Strike Invoker in PoE 2 Rise of the Abyssal League is the body armor. It must have at least 1,500 evasion and 500 energy shield to get enough Spirit for all of the necessary buffs and auras that this build uses.
That said, we recommend the Falconer’s Jacket for its 5% increased movement speed implicit mod. Make sure that it has energy shield, evasion, and increased evasion/energy shield to achieve the amount stated earlier.
In addition, it would be best to get all of the elemental resistance modifiers on body armor so that you do not need them in the other pieces of gear.
You can buy PoE 2 Divine Orbs from our online shop so that you can get a corrupted Falconer’s Jacket with three rune sockets. These slots are reserved for three Greater Iron Runes for a maximum of 75% increased evasion and energy shield.

Helmet
Although having hybrid EV/ES gear is a must for the Flicker Strike Invoker, we will make an exception for the helmet because of the Subterfuge Mask. This notable passive skill grants two points of evasion per point of energy shield on the helmet. That is why you want to go for a Kamasan Tiara since this has the highest ES value currently in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict.
If you can afford one, purchase a corrupted Kamasan Tiara with “+1 to Maximum Power Charges.” The lone rune socket for this one is for the Greater Iron Rune (25% increased energy shield).

Gloves
Among the unique items in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict, the Hand of Wisdom and Action has certainly been nerfed. Despite that, however, it still works well for the Flicker Strike Invoker, particularly if you can fit in some more DEX and INT wherever possible.

If you want the best gloves for this PoE 2 build, then go for the Vaal Wraps that have the trifecta of elemental damage to attacks mod. These gloves can also come with “+2 to Level of All Melee Skills,” which boosts the damage of Ice Strike and Flicker Strike, making it a nice addition to the build.
Whatever gloves you end up using, do not forget to insert the new Boar Talisman to grant 1 Rage on a melee hit.

Boots
The 35% increased movement speed mod on the boots is non-negotiable. You’ll want to have it in the endgame as it helps you search for packs of monsters much faster.
Apart from that, you can roll elemental resistance modifiers on the boots as well. This, along with the body armor, are the only gear slots where you can put three elemental resistance modifiers together.

Another viable pair of boots that you can wear is the Powertread. These unique boots not only increase your Maximum Power Charges by one but also grant a 12% increased critical damage bonus for every Power Charge you have. This means that if you have 7 Power Charges in total, that translates to an 84% boost in critical damage!
You can buy the Powertread in our PoE 2 Store at a very affordable price!

Amulet
You can use any base amulet you want, though we went with the Amber Amulet for its 10-15 points STR bonus. Because this build uses some red support gems, having a bit of STR somewhere is needed, which is why the Amber Amulet is a nice option.
That said, the main modifiers to have on the amulet are “+3 to Level of All Melee Skills” and energy shield. Dexterity and the “All Attributes” mod are also great, particularly if you are wearing the Hand of Wisdom and Action.
Instill the “Stormcharged” notable passive skill by using Distilled Fear, Distilled Fear, and Distilled Envy (in that order). This increases your critical hit chance and elemental damage if you have landed a critical hit in the past four seconds.

Rings
Since you only have nine skill slots to work with, you need to wear at least one Unset Ring. This enables you to add another skill, which in this case, is the Sacrifice Buff.
Having said that, buy an Unset Ring that has physical damage, cold damage, and lightning damage to attacks. Boost these modifiers by using the Reaver Catalyst. For its suffixes, the Unset Ring must have dexterity, intelligence, and all attributes. Go for the highest tier of these mods if you are wearing the HoWA.

The other ring is a Breach Ring with all three elemental damage mods on the prefix. The suffixes can be anything that you want, though we went with a couple of resistance mods and INT. You have the freedom to go with any suffixes that you need for your particular PoE 2 Flicker Strike Invoker build.
Just like the Unset Ring mentioned above, the Breach Ring you get should be improved by using Reaver Catalysts. The nice thing about the Breach Ring is that its quality can go as high as 40% for a massive improvement in its attack mods!

Belt
Begin with a rare belt that has some strength on it, as well as any resistance modifiers that you still have not capped yet. Any base belt will do as long as it has the right mods that your character can benefit from.
Ultimately, we recommend that you get an Ingenuity belt with three charm slots. If you can afford one that has 30% increased bonuses from equipped rings, then that is the most ideal!

Charms
Always equip a Thawing Charm, Stone Charm, and Silver Charm (in that order of importance). The first two are mandatory in order for you to survive in the perilous T15 maps or higher. The Silver Charm is the third option as it prevents you from being slowed down, though the Thawing Charm and Stone Charm should be prioritized.
When you have enough PoE 2 Currency, grab the Nascent Hope. This is a unique charm in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict that jumpstarts your energy shield recharge every time you get frozen. This is especially useful when you take the Chaos Inoculation keystone passive.

Jewels
The cheapest damage-boosting upgrade you can get for the Flicker Strike Invoker is a Time-Lost Sapphire with any of the following mods:
- Notable Passive Skills in Radius Also Grant Increased Critical Damage Bonus
- Notable Passive Skills in Radius Also Grant Recover % of Maximum Mana on Kill
- Notable Passive Skills in Radius Also Grant % Increased Magnitude of Shock You Inflict
- Small Passive Skills in Radius Also Grant % Increased Maximum Energy Shield
The increased energy shield and critical damage bonus modifiers are really nice to have because they improve your defense and offense, respectively.
For regular jewels, choose any four of these mods:
- Increased Damage with Quarterstaves
- Increased Attack Damage
- Increased Critical Hit Chance for Attacks
- Increased Attack Speed
- Increased Attack Speed with Quarterstaves
- Increased Lightning Damage
- Meta Skills Gain % Increased Energy
- Increased Critical Damage Bonus
- Increased Critical Hit Chance
- Increased Cold Damage
- Increased Elemental Damage
- Recover 2% of Maximum Mana on Kill
- Increased Maximum Energy Shield
- Increased Area of Effect
- Herald Skills Deal % Increased Damage
How about unique jewels? Is there anything that you can use that will make a significant impact? Absolutely!
The biggest upgrade is an Against the Darkness jewel with extra lightning and extra cold damage. If you can afford this version of the jewel that grants 4% for each of these mods, then get that one for sure!
Take note that you have to replace the Time-Lost Sapphire mentioned previously if you are going to use Against the Darkness. That is because these jewels are placed in the exact same socket (next to “One with the Storm” on the passive tree).

The other unique jewel you can purchase is a Prism of Belief that has “+3 to Level of All Flicker Strike Skills.” This jewel is quite specific, so make sure that those exact words are imprinted on its description. Otherwise, you are wasting your money on the wrong one!

Passive Tree
When it comes to your first set of passive skill points, prioritize getting nodes that improve your damage output. Passive nodes such as Essence of the Mountain, Moment of Truth, and Blinding Strike are just some good examples.
Once you have taken True Strike, For the Jugular, and Deadly Force, go straight for the quarterstaff nodes on the right side of the passive tree. After that, go down and take all of the critical nodes like Heartstopping, Stuck Through, and Heartbreaking.
From there, take Wild Storm to further increase your lightning damage, allowing you to easily inflict Shock on enemies. Then, go down from Blinding Strike and allocate Harness the Elements and Cooked.
By this time, you will already have some hybrid EV/ES gear. Thus, it is time to allocate all nodes related to increasing evasion and energy shield, including Spectral Ward, Subterfuge Mask, and Shimmering. If your energy shield is above 3,500, you can now allocate Chaos Inoculation.
You have the option of taking the Eternal Youth keystone passive if you want to turn your life flask into something that can recover some ES when you need it. If you do not need Eternal Youth, you can remove points from Lust for Power so that you will have enough to take Overflowing Power instead. Overflowing Power raises your Maximum Power Charges by two, thus greatly improving your damage output.
If you still like having Lust for Power, you could remove points from Careful Assassin. This is so that you will have enough skill points to have Lust for Power and Overflowing Power together.

Tips and Strategies
Always Increase the Quality of Your Skills
PoE 2 Gemcutter Prisms can actually improve the damage output of the Flicker Strike Invoker. For instance, Flicker Strike at max skill quality has a 20% chance of not removing charges on use. Ice Strike gains 10% more attack speed at max quality as well.
How about Cast on Freeze? If you spend four Gemcutter’s Prisms on this meta-skill, it will gain 15% increased energy every time you freeze enemies with your attacks.
That is why it is important to secure plenty of Gemcutter’s Prisms as fast as possible if you want to gain a noticeable improvement in DPS without spending a ton of PoE 2 Currency.
Instill Restless Dead on the Amulet
If you have more than an 80% critical hit chance already, you can safely remove Stormcharged on the amulet and replace it with Restless Dead. This particular notable passive skill allows your Skeletal Warriors to revive 25% faster, which is quite useful when you are going against the pinnacle bosses in PoE 2.
If you are wondering, Restless Dead requires Distilled Despair, Distilled Fear, and Distilled Disgust (in that order).
How to Generate Power Charges without Minions
While using Profane Ritual on your Skeletal Warriors is the preferred method of generating Power Charges when bossing, there are some viable alternatives.
Lingering Illusion allows you to create copies of yourself when you perform a Dodge Roll. Whenever this illusion of yours is killed by the boss, it generates one Power Charge in the process. This does require 30 Spirit to activate, but that shouldn't be a problem for the Flicker Strike Invoker.
If you do not have your endgame amulet yet, you could wear the Serpent's Egg. This unique item allows you to gain two Power Charges with Lingering Illusion if your doppelganger is killed in combat.
Have Spirit on Body Armor and Amulet Early On
Remember that you have plenty of persistent buffs you need to activate on this build to take full advantage of its capabilities. Cast on Freeze alone already requires 60 Spirit to use.
If you do not have your endgame body armor yet, equip a body armor and amulet with Spirit on them for the time being. It goes without saying that you should not have "Lead Me Through Grace" allocated for this to work because this ascendancy node prevents you from getting Spirit from equipment.
Use Breath of the Mountains
While you are leveling, you will find great value in the Breath of the Mountains. This unique charm grants a Power Charge every time you receive cold damage from a hit. Breath of the Mountains can also work with Serpent's Egg, allowing you to gain two Power Charges each time the unique charm's condition is met.
POB
Final Thoughts
The Flicker Strike Invoker is one of the best mapping builds in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict. Gaining Power Charges so that you can get the most out of Flicker Strike is quite easy to do now with Profane Ritual and Cast on Freeze.
Although this is technically a melee build, Flicker Strike allows you to teleport to nearby enemies and zip through packs of monsters when you have enough Power Charges. If you like a competent mapper that does not use Lightning Spear in any way, then try the Flicker Strike Invoker for sure!
