Path of Exile: Mirage, the latest expansion of GGG’s hit ARPG, is dropping very soon. Patch 3.28 is going to bring tons of new content, including a new league that will have you enter a titular mirage to save the djinn. It’s also an avenue to help you juice up your maps and farm the Best PoE items.

In addition, those who love playing the Scion class will be happy to know that it will finally have a new ascendancy class in Path of Exile: Mirage. We’re going to discuss that and more in this article, so buckle up and enjoy the ride!

Path of Exile: Mirage – Release Date

The game’s latest expansion, Path of Exile: Mirage, will be released on Friday, March 6, at 11 AM PST. This is for the standalone, Steam, and console versions of the game.

Path of Exile: Mirage – Main League Mechanic

During the course of your journey to Wraeclast, you will come across Djinns that are held by the Afarud, the twisted and most depraved beings of the Faridun. After defeating them, the legendary Maraketh Sekhema Varashta tasks you to enter the mirage, which is an imperfect copy of the map you are on.

Mirage league mechanic overview

After entering the mirage, you will fight a group of monsters that were responsible for trapping the Djinn inside. Once that is done, Varashta will augment the next mirages for you, granting you three wishes. These wishes are basically an avenue for you to juice your maps even further!

For example, Wish for Glyphs converts portal scrolls and wisdom scrolls that monsters drop in the Mirage Area into PoE Currencies. This is actually huge, especially considering that those scrolls drop quite often. If they are indeed converted into various currencies, the Mirage mechanic might be your way to farm plenty of Divine Orbs with ease!

If you have noticed, there are certain icons at the bottom of each wish. The icons represent the sigils of the three powerful Djinns, namely:

  • Sigil of Kelari: The Sand Djinn
  • Sigil of Ruzhan: The Fire Djinn
  • Sigil of Navira: The Water Djinn

Why is this important? Well, if you clear a mirage and save the Djinn, you will have a chance to obtain any of the three new PoE currencies, such as the Coin of Knowledge, Coin of Power, or Coin of Skill.

New PoE Mirage currencies

These currencies enable you to enhance a level 20 skill gem by adding a random support gem effect. For instance, using the Coin of Skill puts a random DEX support gem, which could lead to some pretty awesome effects.

In endgame farming, the mirages that you’ll find in your maps are affected by the same map modifiers and enhancements. If you’ve used any scarabs, then their effects are active inside the mirage as well.

Because map modifiers and additional content are active in mirages, you can engage with the same content again. So, if you’ve already completed a Legion encounter in your map, you have another chance of opening Legion a second time inside the mirage.

On top of that, any of the additional content inside the mirage has a chance of being empowered, offering new challenges and better rewards. If you find an Ultimatum Encounter inside the mirage, for example, you may occasionally be presented with new modifiers, such as Quicksand II, which slows your movement down when you step on the spawned quicksands.

Path of Exile: Mirage – New Endgame Boss

Do you find Path of Exile’s endgame content lacking? Well, I’ve got some good news for you! In the Mirage Challenge League, Patch 3.28 is going to introduce a new endgame boss called Saresh. He is a powerful necromancer who is hellbent on exacting his revenge against the Maraketh and will stop at nothing to see that fulfilled. Will you be able to stop him once Path of Exile: Mirage launches this week?

Path of Exile: Mirage – New Skills

Saresh is a powerful necromancer who has the ability to summon the undead. What better way to deal with the new threat than to smite them with some new holy skills!

In Path of Exile: Mirage, there are a bunch of holy skills that you can use. Holy Hammers, for example, is a new INT-based skill gem that drops a hammer on the enemy in front of you. If the hammer hits a monster successfully, another hammer will drop down, cascading forward and hitting more enemies down the line (up to a cap).

Put major emphasis on improving your accuracy because this next skill gets better with a successful hit. Holy Strike is a new STR/INT-based skill gem that summons a Holy Armament if your hit connects. The Holy Armament is a minion that copies the stats of your main hand weapon, so equipping a mirror-tier Sceptre is definitely recommended.

In addition, Sweep was one of the earliest skills available in the game. It did not receive any attention for a long time because there are just better options out there, until now.

GGG has reworked Sweep and is now calling it Holy Sweep in Path of Exile: Mirage. Basically, you still do the same motion as that of the original Sweep, except that the new skill now rains down hammers on those that are hit with the initial sweep.

The skill already converts some of your physical damage to lightning, but it might be better if you craft lightning-convert gloves for a much better damage output. Of course, a good two-handed weapon should be in the mix as well.

PoE Mirage New Ascendancy Class: Reliquarian

The Scion only had one ascendancy class prior to Patch 3.28, and although it is quite powerful when you deck it out with the best gear, it is still somewhat limited based on the amount of currency you are willing to put into it.

To spice things up, GGG has moved the Reliquarian, which was previously only playable in the Legacy of Phrecia event, to the main game. Unlike the Ascendant, the Reliquarian is an ascendancy class that borrows from the powers of some unique items that are found in the game.

When you allocate Victario’s Influence, for example, it will boost the AoE of your aura skills by a considerable amount. Plus, it increases the level of all aura skill gems by two as well. With the upcoming Mirage League’s theme, perhaps the Smite Reliquarian build becomes a viable alternative to the popular Ascendant build of yesteryears.

GGG has also stated that the Reliquarian’s ascendancy nodes are not static and will change in every league. This principle is the first of its kind in the game, and it essentially makes the Reliquarian one of the best ascendancy classes in PoE in terms of build possibilities.

Path of Exile: Mirage – Endgame Changes

GGG has read the community’s feedback and is implementing a bunch of changes to the endgame experience. Here are some of them:

  • The map system in PoE: Mirage has changed for the better. The game now adopts the mapping system in the sequel, where you only need to farm tiered maps (instead of named maps). The map will be inserted into the Map Device, and you can choose whatever area you wish to farm. For instance, you can farm the Crimson Temple map to your heart’s content just by putting in a T16 map (no longer Crimson Temple Map).
  • You will still have access to your Atlas Tree presets (of up to three), so you can seamlessly change your Atlas passive skills at any time. You can create a preset that is specifically for mapping, and another one that is meant for bosses, etc.
  • Because of the substantial changes made to the Atlas, the “Favored Map” system has been removed entirely.
  • Unique maps, some of which are old favorites, will now be shown prominently on the Atlas. You just need a corresponding map to enter them.
  • You will now be able to gain more Atlas passive points than ever before. For instance, you can gain an Atlas skill point by completing unique maps (up to 10 points this way).
  • New items called “Astrolabes” are added that will shape a region of the Atlas and add new content types. You can use the Astrolabe on a map, and all maps surrounding it will be affected by the same effect. For example, the Nameless Astrolabe adds Ritual Altars to the affected maps in the region.
