Blizzard surprised players recently when they revealed all of the details about WoW Classic 20th Anniversary Phase 3. It’s going to be a rich update that’s filled with more than a few beloved content from the glory days of WoW. If you missed out on this, we’ve got you covered.

WoW Classic 20th Anniversary Phase 3 Update

One of the ways you can prepare now is by getting a lot of WoW 20th Anniversary Gold for your account. We’ve got you covered on this end, so try to check out what Phase 3 will have in the next section.

WoW Classic 20th Anniversary Phase 3 Release and Updates

Big news has landed for WoW Classic anniversary servers. Phase 3 is officially on the horizon, and if you’ve been grinding Molten Core and Onyxia for weeks now, it’s finally time to pivot toward something new. Blackwing Lair is here, and it’s bringing fresh challenges and rewards with it.

After a relatively quiet spell since Phase 2—aside from the Black Lotus change that didn’t have much impact—this is the content drop players have been waiting for.

Phase 3 officially launches on March 20 at 3:00 p.m. PDT. It’s packed with new content, some of which will be staggered and released over time, according to the official timetable.

The Phase 3 Release Timetable

Phase 3 lands on March 20 and will introduce Blackwing Lair, level 50 class quests, new reputation rewards, the War on Gold reputation list, Eternal Quintessence, and Darkmoon Faire.

Then, on April 3, two weeks later, PvP gets a significant update with the removal of the Rank 11 cap. This opens the door to ranks 12 through 14 and introduces Arathi Basin Battleground, along with Battleground bonus weekends.

So if you’ve been itching for new content beyond the usual Molten Core grind, Phase 3 has you covered. Blackwing Lair is one of the most anticipated raids in Classic WoW. Many players, especially those who didn’t fully experience it in OG Classic, are eager to dive back into this iconic raid.

Blackwing Lair and Tier Set Updates

The announcement highlighted that Tier 2 helms will now be obtainable from Onyxia, while Tier 2 legs will continue to drop from Ragnaros in Molten Core.

The raid itself promises some of the best gear and encounters in Classic, and it’s a welcome shift from the molten corridors you’ve likely memorized by now.

Reputation Rewards and Class Quests

Phase 3 isn’t just about Blackwing Lair. It also introduces earnable reputation rewards across several factions, including Argent Dawn, Timbermaw Hold, Thorium Brotherhood, Silverwing Sentinels (Alliance), and Warsong Outriders (Horde). Here’s a snapshot of some of the rewards on offer:

  • Argent Dawn: Enchant Bracer - Mana Regen, Powerful Anti-Venom, the full Argent set, Dawn Treaders, Golden Mantle of the Dawn, and crafting plans for Girdle of the Dawn and Gloves of the Dawn.
  • Silverwing Sentinels and Warsong Outriders: PvP-focused items and enhancements.
  • Thorium Brotherhood: Plans for The Blackguard and Enchant Weapon - Strength.
  • Timbermaw Hold: Enchant Weapon - Agility, Might of the Timbermaw, Wisdom of the Timbermaw, Timbermaw Mantle, and Timbermaw Brawlers, alongside plans for heavy belts and boots.

Also arriving are the long-awaited level 50 class quests. Whether you’re leveling an alt or just haven’t knocked out your class quest yet, now is the time. These quests are packed with rewards that can serve you well in this phase and beyond.

These rewards are going to be hard to get. If you’re struggling with farming enough to become powerful, we’ll hook you up with some WoW gold for your account at a reasonable price.

Darkmoon Faire and PvP Expansion

Darkmoon Faire will also be making its appearance in Phase 3, bringing with it its usual assortment of mini-games and rewards. Then, starting April 3, the PvP scene gets a massive shake-up.

The Rank 11 cap will be lifted, allowing players to progress to Rank 14. Arathi Basin will also open for intense 15 vs. 15 resource battles, and Battleground holiday weekends will provide even more chances to rake in honor and rewards.

Accelerated Content Cadence

Interestingly, this Phase 3 launch comes roughly two months after Phase 2 dropped on January 16. It’s clear Blizzard is keeping a faster pace with content updates this time around, and that accelerated cadence has been felt by many players. Whether you think it’s too soon, too late, or just right, there’s no denying that Phase 3 brings a much-needed shake-up to the current landscape.

For many, Phase 3 couldn’t come soon enough. Molten Core fatigue has set in, and this new raid tier is poised to reignite excitement across the community.

Market Impacts and Preparation

With new content on the way, expect material prices—flasks, consumables, and other raid prep essentials—to start climbing. Blackwing Lair represents a step up in raid difficulty compared to Molten Core, and as a result, players will be investing more heavily in their throughput and survivability.

We already have a public video guide available on Phase 3 investments. It covers items you can buy now that are likely to rise in value as demand spikes. Historically, we’ve seen this pattern in Classic WoW, Season of Mastery, and Season of Discovery, and there’s every reason to believe we’ll see it again.

For those looking to get ahead, we also have a dedicated gold-making guide. It covers everything from farming and crafting to investments that will position you for success in Phase 3 and even in Phases 4 and 5. The earlier you start preparing, the more gold you’re likely to make.

If you want to dive deeper into these strategies, check out the links provided below for the investment and gold-making guides.

So, what’s your take? Is Phase 3 arriving too soon, perfectly timed, or could it have waited a bit longer? Either way, this is the content drop that’s going to define the next chapter of WoW Classic’s 20th Anniversary.

Prepping for WoW Classic 20th Anniversary Phase 3

Phase three of WoW Classic's 20th Anniversary is right around the corner, and this is your ultimate prep guide. Prepping is going to be essential as you’re going to go up against tough raids like the recent Liberation of Undermine in WoW The War Within.

We are here to walk you through everything you need to know to dominate Blackwing Lair.

Essential Items and Attunements

The first and most critical step as you head into Phase 3 is making sure you secure an Onyxia Scale Cloak. You simply can't raid Blackwing Lair without one. Without this cloak, you’ll be one-shot by Nefarian, and your raid night will be over before it even begins.

Sure, you could grab one off the auction house, but the real veterans are crafting these cloaks for their guildmates and even selling them for extra profit.

To craft the cloak, you’ll need to learn the recipe as a leatherworker. This is done by turning in the Onyxia head, which will give you a follow-up quest.

The required scales are skinned directly from Onyxia herself, so if you act fast, you’ll be cashing in on what’s essentially a gold rush. This is a chance to stack some serious profit while gearing up your team.

Onyxia Scale Cloak

Next, you’ll need your Blackwing Lair attunement sorted out. If you don’t, you’ll find yourself locked outside the raid – and yes, this has happened before, and it is every bit the nightmare you’d expect.

To attune, you’ll need to kill the Scarshield Quartermaster and loot Blackhand’s Command notes. After that, it’s a full Upper Blackrock Spire run. At the end of the run, behind General Drakkisath, you’ll find an orb. Click that orb, and you’re officially attuned to Blackwing Lair.

Now, if you’re looking to make some solid gold heading into this phase, here’s a tip: sell fully cleared Upper Blackrock Spire IDs. Players will gladly pay 20 to 30 gold just to avoid doing the full Ubers run themselves.

Gear Prep for Phase 3

The goal is to collect as much pre-BiS (best-in-slot) gear as possible before Phase 3 officially drops. We highly recommend checking the document linked below the video, which outlines the pre-BiS items for every single class.

For most classes, there are key pieces you want to lock down before you even step into Blackwing Lair. Your Tier 2 helmet from Onyxia and Tier 2 legs from Ragnaros are essential. These are just the start. There are also several highly competitive items you don’t want to backtrack for later. We're talking about things like the Onyxia necklace, Choker of the Fire Lord, Bone Reaver’s Edge, and the Onslaught Girdle.

Realistically, though, with how fast the phases have been progressing, nearly every guild will still be running Molten Core and Blackwing Lair simultaneously. So, if you’re still short on some pre-BiS gear, you don’t have to panic just yet. There’s still time.

Do you think Blizzard should increase the drop rates in Molten Core, or do you like the loot feeling rare, valuable, and tough to obtain?

Consumables

Moving into consumables, this is where Phase 3 really starts to crank things up. Blackwing Lair is the phase where consumables become non-negotiable. Ultimately, DPS is king in Blackwing Lair.

The more damage you deal, the less you have to sweat the mechanics. But let’s face it, not every guild is min-maxing DPS, so if your guild leans toward the lower end of the damage spectrum, you’ll want to stock up on even more consumables.

Don’t forget things like repair bots either. Every player should be bringing a full stock of world buffs and additional tools like Goblin Sapper Charges and Stratholme Holy Water. These items can be game-changers on tough fights like Nefarian.

On the defensive front, bring Greater Shadow Protection Potions for Nefarian, Juju Embers for Firemaw, and make sure you have a large stack of Greater Fire Protection Potions. You can keep a Greater Fire Protection Potion rolling for nearly the entire raid, conserving your world buffs and making things far safer overall.

Another highly recommended consumable is the Limited Invulnerability Potion (LIP). In Molten Core, it wasn’t as crucial, but in Blackwing Lair, if you pull threat on Vaelastrasz or a trash pack, popping a LIP can save your life instantly. Melee classes will also benefit greatly from Free Action Potions, especially on fights like Razorgore and for trash mobs.

Consumables in Phase 3

Make sure to check out the full consumable guide linked below the video. It’s packed with solid recommendations for every role in the raid.

PvP Prep for Gear Upgrades

With Phase 3 also comes the push for new PvP ranks and gear upgrades. Right now, Rank 11 is the current cap, but with Phase 3, it’s likely that cap will be increased to at least Rank 12, possibly higher, and may include weapons.

The smartest move you can make right now is pushing as close to Rank 11 as possible. Doing this will put you in a strong position for the higher ranks as they unlock.

We recommend using the Ranker add-on, which will track how much honor you need weekly and even suggest optimized routes based on your goals. Whether you’re aiming for Rank 10, Rank 12, or beyond, this tool will save you time.

As for where to farm honor efficiently, nothing beats Alterac Valley spam. It’s still the best honor per hour, with minimal effort required.

If the Rank 14 cap is coming, will you be pushing for it? Rank 14 has always been a favorite target for many, but let’s be honest, it’s one of the most time-consuming grinds in the game.

Gear and Guild Optimization

This is the time to fully map out your BiS gear for Blackwing Lair. Whether you’re using a written guide or a tool like 60upgrades, understanding exactly which gear pieces are the most contested can give you an edge—especially if your guild is running a soft reserve system.

This is where your class Discord server becomes invaluable. Ask questions like, “What’s the most contested item for my class in BWL?” Getting that insight can save you from future loot headaches.

If you’re not already in a solid guild clearing Molten Core with ease, now is the time to make that change. Historically, Blackwing Lair has been far less pug-friendly than Molten Core, so the days of casually joining a raid and walking away with gear might be numbered.

Guild Optimization for BWL

Check out your server’s Discord. For example, on the Nightslayer Discord, you might spot a Saturday 10 a.m. raid that’s clearing in an hour, or maybe you’re chasing those hyper-fast, sub-20-minute MC speedruns. Either way, finding the right guild before BWL drops is crucial.

What About Alts?

One major prep tip heading into Phase 3 is to think about whether you’re still enjoying the class you’ve been playing. A lot of players are feeling stagnant at this point.

Maybe it’s time to consider rolling a tank, mastering raid mechanics, and carrying your team. Or perhaps you’ve been eyeing those top-tier Warriors and thinking, “Now is the time to reroll and compete at the top.”

This is the best moment to try something new. Everyone is still doing MC and BWL, but most players won’t need much from Molten Core anymore, meaning you can get geared insanely fast. If you’re feeling stuck, don’t let it hold you back. Phase 3 is the perfect opportunity to break out of your comfort zone.

Ready For Phase 3?

Phase 3 is just around the corner and we’re very excited to see what’s coming to the game. Hopefully, it’s going to be just as exciting as before. For now, you can still keep yourself busy by farming delves in WoW patch 11.1.
