Tired of those inefficient WoW The War Within gear farming sessions you’ve been having? With the game as big as it is, you’re likely wasting a lot of time with outdated farming sessions. What’s worse is that you’re wasting WoW gold on supplies and upgrades along the way.

WoW The War Within gear farming guide

So we’ve scoured every end of the current expansion to give you the best way to farm for gear in the game. By the end of this guide, you’ll be up to your neck in the top-tier gear for your character in the game.

Siren Isles: Getting The Best Starting Gear

With the release of the latest patch, a brand-new zone has been introduced—Siren Isles. If you're looking for the best way to gear up a new character, this is the place to be. Not only can you obtain solid starting gear here, but you can also get your hands on a powerful ring, which is nearly best-in-slot for most classes.

If you haven’t ventured to the Siren Isles yet, you’ll first need to pick up the starting quest in Dagal. Once you have the quest, simply follow the storyline, completing all available quests on the Siren Isles.

By doing so, you’ll receive your ring along with a variety of gems that can be socketed into it. These gems play a crucial role in customizing your gear to suit your class and playstyle.

For the best gem choices, make sure to check out Wowhead to see which ones are considered best-in-slot for your character.

As you progress through quests and defeat enemies in the Siren Isles, you’ll begin accumulating a new currency called Flameblessed Iron. This currency is essential for purchasing gear, rewards, and other valuable items within the zone.

One of the best parts about Flameblessed Iron is that it’s warband transferable. This means you can move it between your characters, making it significantly easier to gear up alts. Simply transfer the currency from one character to another, and just like that, you're nearly ready to jump into Mythic+ dungeons.

Citrines and Gems

Now, let’s talk about how you can obtain gems (also referred to as Citrines) to enhance your ring. All gems in this system are warbound, meaning you can deposit them into your warband bank and distribute them among your characters freely.

WoW The War Within Citrines and Gems

There are four main vendors where you can acquire these gems. However, before you can purchase most of them, you’ll need to unlock them first. Of course, you’re going to need a lot of WoW The War Within gold for this so make sure to save up or stock up.

Three of these vendors can be identified easily, as they have a white chatbox icon floating above their heads. Each of these vendors sells three different gems, making up a total of nine gems in all.

Each vendor offers gems in three different colors: Red, Blue, and Yellow. To unlock these gems, you need to participate in zone events.

Unlocking Gems Through Events

The easiest way to unlock all nine gems is by simply running the events that are displayed on the event map in the main area of Siren Isles.

Whenever you're participating in these events, always check the rewards listed to determine which gems are available. Sometimes, multiple events will be active at the same time, and you’ll have to choose between them based on the rewards you need.

The gems themselves are primarily dropped from the elite enemies you encounter during these events. While the drop rate isn't guaranteed, it’s still pretty high. Expect to spend a few hours grinding these events before unlocking all nine gems, but trust us—it’s absolutely worth it.

Aside from the three main vendors, there is one additional vendor who sells gems that require no prior unlocking. All you have to do is walk up to them and purchase the gems directly.

Each gem from this vendor costs 50 Flameblessed Iron, which is a relatively small amount compared to what you’ll be earning throughout your journey in Siren Isles.

You’ll find this vendor west of the event map, up a set of stairs. The vendor is an NPC in the form of a turtle, and he offers three additional gems that can be bought immediately.

Getting to 590 Item Level FAST in The War Within

Now that we’ve covered how to get started with your gear in Siren Isles, let’s dive into how to quickly get your character to 590 item level using Flameblessed Iron.

The best place to start is by heading over to the Quartermaster in the main area of Siren Isles. Here, you can purchase Veteran Track gear using your Flameblessed Iron.

Each piece of gear costs between 100 and 175 Flameblessed Iron, and you can buy every armor slot, including weapons, rings, and trinkets. The vendor also offers multiple options for each slot, allowing you to pick the stats that best suit your class and specialization.

By completing all the quests and dailies in Siren Isles, you should have more than enough currency to purchase a full set of gear. However, if you find yourself short on Flameblessed Iron, don’t worry—you can farm more by:

  • Killing mobs and elites around the island
  • Taking down rare enemies
  • Clearing events and world quests

Once you’ve acquired a full set of Veteran Track gear and equipped your new ring, you should be close to 590+ item level.

At this point, you’re technically ready to jump into Mythic+ dungeons, but keep in mind that 590 is on the lower end. You may have trouble getting into groups higher than Mythic 4 or 5. That’s why we’re going to take things a step further and boost our item level even more before diving into serious Mythic+ content.

Getting to the Champion and Heroic Track for Even Better Gear

To truly push your item level higher, we need to upgrade from Veteran Track to Champion Track gear—or even better, Heroic Track gear. The best way to do this is by targeting specific upgrade sources, starting with getting your full Tier 4 set.

When stepping into Mythic+, your four-piece tier set bonus is absolutely essential. Whether it’s Veteran, Champion, or Heroic Track, it doesn’t matter—you need to have your four-set bonus to perform at your best. And keep in mind, each class has its own set of tier gear that’s worth getting.

Now, here’s a super efficient trick to get your Heroic Track items quickly and easily with minimal effort. And when we say minimal, we mean just an hour or two to snag three or four Heroic pieces—possibly even more.

Step 1: Use the Catalyst in Dagal

Before jumping into Mythic+, we need to upgrade our gear just a little more. The best way to do this is by using the Catalyst in Dagal.

If you’re starting fresh this far into the season, you should already have eight Catalyst charges available. This allows you to convert low-item-level pieces into tier gear, giving you your two-piece or four-piece set bonus instantly.

Step 2: Prioritize Crafting Helm and Legs

At a bare minimum, you need to craft your two-piece set bonus. The best slots to craft first are your helm and legs—and here’s why:

We’ll be running Heroic Nerub'ar Palace, and the helm and leg pieces only drop from the final three bosses. Since those are harder to obtain, it’s better to craft them ahead of time rather than hope for lucky drops.

Simply take the helm and leg armor you acquired from Siren Isles, use the Catalyst in Dagal, and convert them into tier pieces.

Step 3: Consider Crafting Your Full Four-Set

If you want to go all-in, you can immediately craft your full four-set bonus right now. You have four more Catalyst charges available, and you’ll be earning even more in the coming weeks, so there’s no harm in securing your full set early.

However, if you prefer to save Catalyst charges for better gear later, you can start with just the two-set bonus and upgrade as you progress.

Upgrade Your Gear Further! Get Closer to 600 Item Level

Now that we have our Tier 4 set and a solid baseline of gear, it's time to push our item level even higher before jumping into the next step of our gearing process. Our goal here is to get as close as possible to 600 item level before moving on to the trick that will get us several Heroic Track gear pieces with minimal effort.

The next step is upgrading a few key gear pieces using Weathered Crests. If you don’t have any, don’t worry—they are incredibly easy to farm.

The fastest way to farm Weathered Crests is by flying through blue orbs located in one of the four zones in Castlegar. These blue orbs are scattered all around the area, and each time you fly through one, you’ll receive one to three Weathered Crests.

Flying through blue orbs to collect Weathered Crests

A few key things to keep in mind:

  • The location of the orbs rotates daily between the four zones in Castlegar.
  • To farm them efficiently, fly from zone to zone until you locate a cluster of blue orbs.
  • Keep collecting until you have at least 100 Weathered Crests, which should be enough to upgrade multiple pieces of gear.

Once you have enough Weathered Crests, head over to the upgrade NPC and start upgrading your gear. Here’s the priority order we recommend:

  1. Weapons – This is always the biggest DPS/healing increase.
  2. Trinkets – These can have a massive impact on your performance.
  3. Tier Gear – Start upgrading your tier pieces once weapons and trinkets are taken care of.

However, you’ll also need Valor to complete these upgrades, so let’s quickly go over how to get it.

If you’re low on Valor, the best way to farm a quick stash is by running LFR (Looking for Raid). Each wing of LFR rewards around 120 Valor, and since they don’t take long to complete, this is an efficient way to gather Valor while also having a chance at extra gear drops.

By the time you’re done with these upgrades, your item level should be hovering around 595, which is perfect for stepping into Heroic Nerub'ar Palace without worrying about being too squishy. This is going to be a long grind if you’re short on WoW gold, so stock up!

How to Get EASY Heroic Track Gear – This Works!

At this point, you might be thinking:

  • “I’m too low item level for Heroic Nerub'ar Palace.”
  • “I’ll never get invited to a raid at this level.”
  • “Even if I do, my chances of getting loot are slim.”

Let us stop you right there—none of that is true. In fact, there’s a simple method to greatly increase your chances of getting gear from Heroic Nerub'ar Palace. Nothing in WoW is 100% guaranteed, but this strategy is as close as it gets.

Even if you don’t know the mechanics and have zero experience with the raid, this method will work—because the group is going to carry you.

Step 1: Create Your Own Heroic Nerub'ar Palace Raid

Instead of waiting to be invited, you’re going to be the raid leader.

Here’s exactly what you need to do:

  1. Open the Premade Group Finder and create a new Heroic Nerub'ar Palace raid.
  2. Name your group something like “Fresh Heroic Full Clear”—this attracts players looking for a full run.
  3. If anyone asks, just say it’s a full clear—because it will be, as long as you follow the next steps.
Creating a Heroic Nerub'ar Palace Raid

Step 2: Build a Strong Raid Group

Now, this is the most important part. Since you’re the raid leader, you get to choose who joins—and this is how you stack the odds in your favor.

  • Prioritize high-item-level players (620+). The stronger your raid, the easier it will be.
  • Use the Raider.IO add-on to check players’ raid progress.
  • Avoid filling the group with undergeared or inexperienced players—you want strong carries.
  • Invite players who have 8/8 Heroic cleared whenever possible. If someone has full Heroic experience on another character, invite them instantly—even if they’re playing an alt.
  • Don’t fill your raid too quickly. The first few invites can be anyone 600+ item level, but once you get a few players in, higher-geared players will start queuing up.
  • Be selective—you want experienced players who can help clear the raid quickly.

Step 3: Optimize Loot Chances

One key strategy is to invite players who don’t share your armor type whenever possible.

For example:

  • If you are a plate wearer, try to invite leather, mail, and cloth users over other plate wearers.
  • If you play a leather class, prioritize players wearing plate, mail, and cloth.

This reduces loot competition and increases your chances of getting gear drops.

Step 4: Watch the Raid Fill Up

The hardest part of leading a PuG (Pick-up Group) raid is getting it started. However, once a few players join, more will start queuing up quickly. People prefer joining raids that are nearly full so they don’t have to wait around.

Once the group is ready, jump into the raid and let your high-item-level players carry the run. Since you’re the raid leader, you control everything, making this the best way to secure Heroic Track gear quickly.

Make sure to know which classes are the best for Mythic Plus dungeons. They regularly change with the patches so be updated always.

VERY Important Tip: Maximizing Your Loot Chances in Heroic Nerub'ar Palace

Now that you've set up your Heroic Nerub'ar Palace raid, there's one very important strategy that will significantly increase your chances of getting gear.

If you’re playing a cloth, leather, or mail class, you want to minimize the number of other players in the raid that share your armor type. The fewer players rolling on the same loot as you, the better your odds of getting gear drops.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Prioritize inviting players who do NOT share your armor type.
  • If you can, also avoid players who share your tier token. This is trickier to manage and might weaken the raid overall, so only do this if it doesn’t negatively impact your group’s success.
  • If you must invite players of the same armor type, make sure they are already fully geared. That way, they won’t need the same drops as you.

There will be situations where you can’t completely avoid players who share your armor. That’s okay! The key is to make sure they are high-item-level players who are likely already fully geared. If they don’t need the loot, it won’t impact your drops.

Here’s what to look for:

  • If they’re 8/8 Heroic cleared, they probably don’t need gear.
  • If they’re 620+ item level, chances are they’ve already obtained most of their upgrades.
  • If they’re playing an alt but have full clears on their main, invite them. They’re more likely to pass on gear they don’t need.

To get the most loot possible, you want to stack your group with strong players while also avoiding unnecessary loot competition.

Your goal should be to clear at least 6/8 Heroic bosses as a bare minimum. Here’s what to aim for when forming your raid:

  • 80% of your raid should be 8/8 Heroic or close to it.
  • Some players can be 4/8 or 3/8 as long as they have strong gear and some experience.
  • Fill the raid to 30 players whenever possible. More players = more loot drops.

Raid Lead Tips: How to Look Like a Pro in Heroic Nerub'ar Palace

If you're new to raid leading or don’t know the mechanics of Heroic Nerub'ar Palace, don’t worry—you can still lead a smooth and successful raid with just a few key strategies. The trick is to give clear, simple instructions before each boss fight so your raid knows exactly what to do.

One of the best ways to quickly communicate mechanics is by using Raid Warnings (RW). To do a Raid Warning, simply type:

/rw followed by your message.

Here, we’ll break down exactly what to say for each boss so you can sound like a raid-leading expert—even if you’ve never stepped foot in Nerub'ar Palace before.

Boss 1: Ulgrax

Ulgrax Boss Fight Mechanics

For Ulgrax, your Raid Warning should be short and to the point:

/rw Stack for soak. Clear webs with green circles during intermission.

/rw Follow the tanks, do NOT chase the adds. Let the adds come to us.

/rw High-mobility classes, please help feed the boss.

By giving these instructions upfront, your raid will already know the key mechanics, reducing the chance of unnecessary wipes.

Boss 2: Split the Raid Into Two Groups

The second boss requires splitting the raid into two equal groups, including tanks, healers, and DPS. Here’s how to handle it:

  • Place two markers down on the islands.
  • Mark each tank with the same marker so players know which one to follow.
  • Make sure the markers are not placed too close together to avoid confusion.

Raid Warning for this fight:

/rw Split into two even groups—tanks, healers, and DPS.

/rw Follow your tank’s marker at all times. Check your group assignments!

Double-check that everyone is in the right spot before pulling the boss.

Boss 3: Sik’ran

Sik’ran is one of the easier bosses in the raid, so you won’t need to overcomplicate the strategy.

/rw If you are targeted with Phase Blades, move out of the group.

/rw If you are targeted with Decimate, stand next to the spawned adds.

Most groups won’t struggle here, so keep the instructions simple.

Boss 4: Rasha'nan

For Rasha'nan, you only need one important Raid Warning:

/rw If you have white circles, get out of the raid.

/rw If you have green Olympic Ring circles, stack in melee.

As long as players follow these two mechanics, this boss should go down easily.

Boss 5: Broodtwister (Egg Break Order)

Broodtwister is a bit trickier, but the most important part is breaking eggs in the right order.

Here’s how to make it easy:

  1. Place five markers down:
    • Four markers on the first set of eggs to be broken.
    • One extra marker near the second set of eggs.
  2. Give a Raid Warning with clear egg-breaking instructions:

/rw First four eggs to break are marked—everyone focus on them first.

/rw Second set of eggs will be at the marker in between them.

/rw Follow the markers—don’t break unmarked eggs!

Since players are highly geared this late in the season, the boss will die quickly—but making sure the eggs break in the right order helps prevent wipes.

Boss 6: Nexus Princess

Nexus Princess Boss Fight Mechanics

For this fight, don’t overcomplicate things—just use one simple Raid Warning:

/rw If you have Queen’s Bane, GET OUT of the raid!

There are too many mechanics to explain in a short Raid Warning, so just focus on this one key ability and hope the group knows the rest.

If your first six bosses go smoothly, you have a solid shot at pushing deeper into the raid.

  • If the group is strong, you should attempt Boss 7 (Silken Core).
  • However, this boss is significantly harder than the first six, so don’t waste too much time if the raid starts struggling.

By this point, you should have already picked up several pieces of Heroic Track gear—and that’s the main goal. But try not to worry too much. Even the 6 raid bosses alone should’ve already bagged you tons of gear and WoW The War Within Gold.

Getting Into Mythic Plus

If you're looking to gear up efficiently in The War Within, one of the best ways to do so is through Mythic Plus dungeons. This is a key aspect of endgame content that not only provides great gear upgrades but also helps you progress towards higher item levels.

Your first goal should be clearing all eight dungeons on a +4 difficulty. This is essential because it gives your character a Mythic Plus rating, which is necessary to get invited to groups. Additionally, you'll start earning Valor and Rune Crests, both of which are needed to upgrade your gear.

Having a solid Mythic Plus rating also makes forming your own groups easier. Players tend to join groups led by those with higher ratings, so boosting your own rating will improve your ability to get into groups. Once you've completed all dungeons at +4, your next step is to push towards clearing them at +8.

At this stage, you should have accumulated plenty of Rune Crests and picked up several pieces of Champion Track gear. If you've been following this guide, your item level should be nearing 610 or higher. This is more than enough to handle +8 dungeons with ease.

Continue upgrading your gear, pushing your item level higher, and if necessary, craft a 619 weapon to give yourself an extra edge.

You can either craft a weapon outright or use your Rune Crests to upgrade a piece of Heroic Track gear. Prioritize upgrading Heroic Track items first since these will scale better in the long run.

Mythic Plus Dungeon Progression

If you don’t have a solid weapon yet, crafting one at 619 item level using 45 Rune Crests is a solid option.

However, if you already have a Champion Track weapon, it might be better to upgrade it to its max potential. And if you’re lucky enough to obtain a Heroic Track weapon, even better—just focus on enhancing it.

Reaching 2,000 Mythic Plus Rating

Keep running keys, upgrading your gear, and once you hit 615+ item level, you'll be able to clear +8 dungeons with ease. At this point, people will start queueing into your groups much faster, and you’ll be closing in on 2,000 Mythic Plus rating.

Why is 2K Mythic Plus rating an important milestone? Because reaching this threshold rewards you with a free Heroic tier piece of your choice. This is a huge boost to your overall gear progression. Be sure to upgrade this tier piece to 626 item level as soon as possible.

Crafting 636 Item Level Gear

Once you start accumulating Gilded Crests, your priority should be to craft gear right away. The best option is to craft a weapon first unless you already have a solid Heroic Track weapon. In that case, focus on crafting 636 gear in the slots where your item level is the lowest.

The first 120 Gilded Crests you earn should go towards crafting two 636 item level pieces. Over time, you’ll start getting more Heroic Track items from dungeons, which can then be converted into tier pieces. Before long, you’ll have a full set of Heroic Track tier gear.

To maximize your gear, you’ll need Runed Crests and Gilded Crests to upgrade these items to 626 item level. You can choose between upgrading your tier gear first or saving your crests to craft more 636 pieces. Having the best gear is a must if you want to max out builds like the Affliction Warlock.

Either approach works, but your ultimate goal should be to craft at least five to six pieces at 636 item level while filling the rest of your slots with fully upgraded Heroic Track gear.

Keep an eye on your weekly Great Vault as well. Within the next reset or two, you may get lucky and score a solid Mythic Track item. If you can clear a +10 dungeon, doing all of this should push your item level past 630.

Max Out Your Gear Now

With that, you’ll have good gear for your WoW The War Within character in no time. Remember, it’s going to be a long journey but if you buy WoW The War Within gold, it will be much easier.
