Diablo 2: Resurrected , Game Guides

Earlier this year, Blizzard announced that Diablo 2 is already 25 years old. Yes, it has been that long since the original version of the sequel was released. Thankfully, the company made a lot of quality-of-life changes in Diablo II: Resurrected, particularly in terms of the graphics and overall feel of the game.
However, most of the content available in D2R at the moment has been enjoyed by many for more than 25 years already. So, it’s either time to call it quits or create new and exciting content to entice people to keep playing. It looks like Blizzard is going for the latter, which got a lot of fans excited for what’s to come!
Although Blizzard has not explicitly said anything specific at the time of writing, I am here to give you what new content could be coming to D2R in 2026. This is based on what the community has been clamoring for, so stay a while and listen!

Blizzard’s 25th Anniversary Tease Explained

On June 28, 2025, Blizzard tweeted that 25 years had passed since the original Diablo 2 was released. That is good and all, but what the fans of the game got really excited about was the caption: “If you think you’ve seen and done it all, just wait for the chaos we’ve yet to unleash.”
That was the only thing that the company said. However, the community has been thinking about what that could all mean.
Many people have speculated that there will be a ton of new content coming to Diablo II: Resurrected in 2026. Part of the reason why is that it also marks the 25th anniversary of “The Lord of Destruction” expansion, which introduced the Druid and Assassin classes to the game.
In the next sections, I will go over what possible new content you can likely expect in 2026.
Possible New Content Coming to D2R in 2026
D2R has been in a long content drought. Because 2026 also marks the 30th anniversary of the Diablo franchise, it is the perfect time for Blizzard to add new stuff that would surely pique the interest of the community. Here are some of the most likely things we might see:
A New Act
The Lord of Destruction expansion for Diablo II added a new Prime Evil into the game called Baal. To combat this new force of evil, Blizzard introduced the Druid and the Assassin classes, each with its own unique abilities.
The Druid is able to shapeshift into two animal forms: the formidable Werebear and the ferocious Werewolf. Besides that, this D2R class has the ability to summon multiple minions, including a raven, a bear, and various types of wolves to aid the Druid in combat.
Then, you have the Assassin—a powerful martial arts master who is also proficient at setting up lethal traps that can easily kill even the strongest of foes. With these two classes, you can brave the harsh cold weather of Mount Arreat, aiding the Barbarians in the fight against evil.
Together, the heroes were able to vanquish Baal himself, though this comes with a terrible price: the corruption of the Worldstone. To prevent further corruption, Tyrael destroyed the Worldstone with his sword, the El'druin.
As a result, Tyrael was vaporized along with Mount Arreat. It was truly a bittersweet moment, to say the least. However, there is a gap in the lore before the third installment of the franchise, leaving so many things yet to explore.
That is why the notion that Blizzard may introduce an entirely new act (or Act VI) in 2026 is not far-fetched. Perhaps the company continues the story of what happened to the Barbarians who were scattered after the cataclysmic event.
The Cleric
In case you did not know, there was actually a plan to release a second expansion for Diablo II back then. In fact, parts of it were already in development, as said by David Brevik, who was the co-founder of Blizzard North and the "father" of Diablo II.
Brevik confirmed that he had written so many documents detailing tons of new content, including new areas to explore, new mechanics to enjoy, and a new character class called the Cleric.

The Cleric was supposed to be a support-type character that could use light-based magic to provide aid to his allies. It was also rumored that the Cleric could cast some offensive spells so that he could hold his ground when the minions of Hell tried to surround him.
After several years, Brevik wanted to disclose more information but was reluctant to do so because he was no longer a part of Blizzard, and the company still held the exclusive rights to the franchise.
Needless to say, the addition of a new class in D2R could definitely shake things up (for the better, of course). Imagine the Cleric using a shield with the Exile Runeword, providing defense through Defiance Aura and supplementing that with whatever defensive spells he has in his kit!
Guild Halls
Another feature that the second expansion would have added to Diablo II was the Guild Halls. Judging by the name, you probably have an idea of what it does.
Essentially, the Guild Halls were meant as a dedicated feature that expands the multiplayer aspect of the game. It is a room where players can get together and form a guild if they want to.
In addition, players would have been able to improve the Guild Hall, adding accoutrements by doing certain activities as a group. Alas, the feature was scrapped when the second expansion was canned by the company.
If this seems like a bummer to you, it actually is. Being able to team up with your friends and create a guild is definitely a solid feature. However, you'd have the company executives to blame for that.
Apparently, Brevik said that the second expansion was ultimately scrapped in favor of developing the third installment of the franchise, Diablo III.
Could 2026 be the year when the company finally decides to release this rumored "second expansion" and add Act 6, the Cleric, and the Guild Halls to Diablo II: Resurrected?
Community Wishlist for D2R in 2026
Blizzard has done an admirable job of remastering D2 via Diablo II: Resurrected. The graphics are vastly improved, the shared stash space is useful, and the ability to bind your skills to certain keys is welcome. However, there are still so many things that can be enhanced to provide a better playing experience. Here are just some of the things that the community has been clamoring for:
Extra Stash Tabs
Diablo II: Resurrected was released in China this year, and with it comes some special features that are not present in the international version.
For example, Chinese D2R players are able to purchase up to six extra stash tabs compared to only a few in the international version.
Stash tabs are incredibly important in an ARPG like Diablo II: Resurrected because the vast majority of your time is spent on farming the Best D2R items. Considering that there are seven playable classes currently available in the game, only having several stash tabs to work with is quite limiting.
Since having six stash tabs is already possible in the Chinese Version of D2R, it should be easy to implement worldwide.

Experience Boosters
Blizzard, in case you didn't know, was bought by Activision in the late 2000s. Since then, the company has implemented certain additions to its games that entice people to spend real-world money, particularly microtransactions.
Having said that, the Chinese Version of Diablo II: Resurrected allows players to get "booster packs" that increase the gold and experience gain by 30% for 90 days. Adding these booster packs to a worldwide audience could significantly increase the company's profits. I don't see a reason why Blizzard won't include them in the game at some point in the future (unless there's a huge community backlash).
Loot Filter
If you have played Diablo II: Resurrected for quite some time now, you know how cluttered the screen can be, especially if you are an efficient item farmer. Just take a look at this, for example:

The image you see above is what's commonly happening to all D2R players. Items that drop from enemies can literally fill the entire screen, making it incredibly hard to move around. That is why the community has been asking Blizzard for a loot filter to help address this issue.
For those who do not know, a loot filter is a feature that allows you to remove certain items from being seen. This is so that highly coveted stuff, like D2R runes or the uber-rare items, are the only things visible to you (because that is basically what you'd want anyway).
With so many people clamoring for this feature to be implemented, it is quite possible that a loot filter may finally be added to the game as part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the Diablo franchise.
Currency Stacking
There are so many gems and runes available in Diablo II: Resurrected, so much so that they can fill up your inventory and stash tabs easily. A 2-hour farming session, for instance, could fill up your entire inventory, leaving you with no space to accommodate more!
A nice solution to this problem is to introduce the ability to stack similar currencies together. Stacking more common runes to save space for the rarer ones, like the Jah and Ber Runes, is definitely what the community wants!
If that is hard to implement, Blizzard could go for the alternative, which is to introduce a currency stash tab. This is more appealing for both parties, mainly because the players would willingly pay to have more stash tabs for their runes and gems, while Blizzard gets massive profits as a result.
New Runewords
Can you guess the last time Blizzard introduced new runewords in Diablo II: Resurrected? If you answered "3 years ago," then you are absolutely right! It was Patch 2.6, when the company added some really powerful runewords; chief among them is the Mosaic Runeword, as well as Metamorphosis and Bulwark.
You could say that there is a massive content drought in the game because the last time anything new was added was in 2023. If indeed Blizzard is committed to breathing new life into the game due to what it said about "wait for the chaos that has yet to be unleashed," then we might see new runewords being added to D2R in 2026!
Buffs to the Melee Archetype
Compared to ranged classes and spellcasters like the Necromancer and Sorceress, the Barbarian and Paladin do not compare because of how melee works in D2R.
For example, Zeal is quite a powerful ability, but the problem is that it can only hit one enemy with each swing at a time. This is one of the main prevailing pain points for melee classes in D2R. That is because you could find yourself being surrounded by monsters in Diablo II: Resurrected with no effective way of dealing with them promptly.
Fortunately, the community has a couple of really good ideas to address the issue, which Blizzard can use for inspiration.
First, the company could implement splash damage for melee skills. This would enable skills like Smite or Zeal to deal damage to multiple enemies with every use. Splash damage has already been implemented in Project Diablo II, which is a fan-made mod of D2: Lord of Destruction, so it's not that difficult to add to the official game.
Second, Blizzard should do some sweeping changes to certain melee weapons, such as The Grandfather and Doombringer, to make them more powerful. As of the moment, there are just so many better alternatives, making the aforementioned weapons less desirable (or sometimes downright non-optimal).
Diablo II: Resurrected has so many interesting melee skills. Blizzard only needed to improve certain things in order for people to truly embrace slaying the minions of Hell at close range with deadly abilities.
Nerf to Mosaic
The Mosaic Runeword is quite busted in Diablo II: Resurrected. It is so powerful that Assassins who do not wield two claws that have this particular runeword are missing out. What is all the fuss about, and why is this rune combination a must-have?
Well, for the uninitiated, the Mosaic Runeword can make Assassin finishing moves like the Dragon Talon and Dragon Tail not consume charges when these skills are used. A fully charged-up Dragon Talon, for example, can quickly destroy the monsters in Chaos Sanctuary with just one kick!
Since there are several charge-up skills available to the Assassin, namely Tiger Strike, Cobra Strike, Fists of Fire, Claws of Thunder, Blades of Ice, and Phoenix Strike, all of the charges they provide will be utilized by a finishing move. Just imagine how many effects go off at the same time as a result!
Aside from the insane damage that a Mosaic-wielder can do, the effects from those pent-up charges could make a modest PC scream. It's that graphically intensive!
More importantly, the Mosaic Runeword is the only viable melee runeword in the game. If you are somehow not rolling a Mosaic Assassin in a new ladder season, your chances of topping the charts as a melee character are slim to none.
Due to the reasons highlighted above, the community actually wants Mosaic to be nerfed for other melee builds to flourish. This is not only good for the overall health of the game, but also encourages other players to try the other classes out.
Persistent Minions
If you like summoning your skeletal army as a Necromancer to defeat the forces of evil, you may find it quite annoying to have to summon each skeleton warrior and skeletal mage each time you log in. Why couldn't Blizzard just make the skeletons behave like the Iron Golem, which can persist every time you run the game?
Assuming that Blizzard does make persistent minions a reality, we might see an uptick in the usage rate of the Summoner Necromancer build in 2026.
Give Chance to Other Mobility Skills
Teleport is a Sorceress-only skill in Diablo II: Resurrected. When used, it prompts you to move forward, seemingly in the blink of an eye. Because of how quickly you can move around large maps (I am looking at you, Flayer Jungle), it is the best mobility skill in the game. If you don't have Enigma to be able to use Teleport on a non-Sorceress character, you are wasting your time.
While some people don't want Teleport to be nerfed, a sizable portion of the community does. D2R has other mobility skills like Leap and Vigor. Maybe it's time to give them a spotlight in 2026?
D2R 25th Anniversary New Content: Conclusion
Diablo II has celebrated its 25th anniversary this year, with Blizzard promising "something big" coming in 2026. We don't know for sure what the company will do, exactly, but there are certainly features that we'd like to see. Things like extra stash tabs, a loot filter, and the ability to stack similar currencies are certainly welcome.
If what Brevik said is true, that there was indeed a second expansion for the original D2, then maybe it's in Blizzard's best interest to release it in 2026. But, what do you think?
