Welcome to our Echoing Strike Warlock build guide for Diablo II: Resurrected! In this article, I will go over the things that you need to know about one of the best builds in D2R ladder season 13.

This build can easily handle all types of content, including the act-wide Terror Zones, as well as the new Colossal Ancients. If you are interested in knowing the best D2R items for this build and the various skills it needs to function, then read further. Let’s get started!

How Does Echoing Strike Work?

This build’s primary skill is Echoing Strike. When used, this skill prompts you to create echoes of your melee weapon that move forward and then come back at you, piercing enemies during the entire process. If you are going to play the Echoing Strike Warlock this ladder season, then you need to know some important things about the said skill.

Echoing Strike, despite being a spell, is a skill from the Eldritch Tree that actually deals physical damage instead of magic damage. You could use something like Hex: Bane if you want to give it some extra utility and magic damage if you wish.

On top of that, Echoing Strike is not influenced by attack speed. If you want the skill to be performed faster, you have to increase your Faster Cast Rate (FCR). Don’t worry, I will explain the needed breakpoints later on in this D2R build guide.

Echoing Strike Diablo II: Resurrected

Here are the other quick facts about Echoing Strike in Diablo II: Resurrected:

  • Works with Deadly Strike, life steal, and mana steal
  • Does not work with Crushing Blow or Open Wounds
  • It does not work with conditional effects, such as On Striking or On Hit.
  • It does not scale with flat damage (like on the Grief Runeword)
  • Despite its wording, Echoing Strike actually does not benefit from attack rating. The skill always seems to hit enemies, whether you have a high attack rating or not.
  • It does scale with weapon modifiers, such as base weapon damage and Enhanced Damage (ED).
  • Synergizes with Mirrored Blades, Blade Warp, and Levitation Mastery.
  • The maximum number of echoed blades is capped to five, regardless of any "+ to skills" affixes on gear. This is because the echoed blades only factor in the hard skill points allocated to Mirrored Blades.

Stat Allocation

  • Strength: 100 or higher (more strength = more Enhanced Damage)
  • Dexterity: Enough to satisfy gear requirements
  • Vitality: Dump all of your extra points on here to improve your maximum life
  • Energy: None

Skill Breakdown

Echoing Strike Warlock Skill Tree
  • 20 points on Echoing Strike
  • 20 points on Levitation Mastery
  • 20 points on Blade Warp
  • 20 points on Mirrored Blades
  • 1 point on Sigil: Lethargy
  • 1 point on Hex: Bane
  • 1 point on Cleave
  • 1 point on Hex: Purge
  • 1 point on Psychic Ward
  • 1 point on Eldritch Blast
  • 1 point on Hex: Siphon
  • 1 point on Demonic Mastery
  • 1 point on Summon Goatman
  • 1 point on Blood Oath
  • 1 point on Death Mark
  • 1 point on Summon Tainted
  • 1 point on Blood Boil
  • 1 point on Summon Defiler
  • 1 point on Engorge
  • 1 point on Consume
  • 2 points on Bind Demon

Echoing Strike won’t be available until level 12. Hence, you must rely on the Summon Goatman and Cleave early on. Alternate between putting your skill points into the other required skills and Levitation Mastery until you unlock Echoing Strike.

Blade Warp is available at level 18. However, you should give it a single skill point only for teleporting purposes (for now). Continue putting points toward Echoing Strike, while subsequently putting points toward other prerequisites as well.

Once you’re at a point where you can allocate points to Mirrored Blades, alternate between Echoing Strike and Mirrored Blades in terms of skill point allocation. Mirrored Blades provides synergy to Echoing Strike, making the latter deal more damage. Additionally, Mirrored Blades is the ideal skill to use against single targets (like Uber Bosses), and is a major part of your bossing rotation.

Since the Warlock can use a two-handed weapon on the main hand (with a shield in the off-hand), it’s best that you use a good two-handed weapon as a base, including the Thunder Maul, War Pike, etc. Since these weapons need more attributes to wield, you can invest points in Levitation Mastery much earlier to reduce their attribute requirements.

Breakpoints

The Warlock has the same breakpoints as the Necromancer in Diablo II: Resurrected—Reign of the Warlock DLC. Thus, it is recommended that you aim for the 125 FCR breakpoint (9 frames) to make Echoing Strike perform a lot smoother.

If the 125 Faster Cast Rate breakpoint is not achievable with your current gear, then the 75 FCR breakpoint is the next best thing. Do not go below 48 FCR because you want Echoing Strike to perform optimally. The good news is that 48 FCR is something that is quite achievable in D2R, so there shouldn’t be a problem trying to attain the said value.

Here are the necessary breakpoints you need to meet when playing the D2R Echoing Strike Warlock build:

  • Faster Cast Rate (FCR): 75 or 125
  • Faster Hit Recovery (FHR): 39 or 56
  • Faster Block Rate (FBR): 32 (baseline, higher is better)

Playstyle

This build has a simple point-and-click playstyle. However, where you cast Echoing Strike from dictates how the echoing projectiles hit the enemy. If you want the projectiles to be tighter for better damage against lone enemies, cast Echoing Strike a bit further from your intended target.

On the other hand, if you want to have them fan outward, cast the skill a bit closer to the enemy. How close, you ask? Well, you should be in melee range if you want to hit more enemies with Echoing Strike.

Cast Blade Warp to traverse the map quickly. If you have the Enigma Runeword on your chest armor, replace Blade Warp with Teleport for a much smoother experience.

When fighting Uber Bosses in D2R, use Summon Goatman and Consume the said minion immediately after to get a bonus in Enhanced Damage. After that, spam Mirrored Blades, as this skill has better single-target damage.

Gear

Among the many builds in Diablo II: Resurrected out there, the Echoing Strike Warlock has total freedom of what D2R runes and unique items it can use. For instance, you have at least five amazing weapons to choose from, which I will cover in the table shortly.

Having said that, it is important to note that this build does not benefit from Crushing Blow, Open Wounds, and flat damage on weapons and runewords. Hence, only invest in items that provide high base damage and Enhanced Damage (ED), as much as possible.

Mercenary Gear

  • Weapon: Insight
  • Body Armor: Fortitude
  • Helmet: Andariel’s Visage (with Ral Rune)

An Act 2 mercenary with the Insight weapon is the ideal choice for the Echoing Strike Warlock, primarily due to that Meditation Aura, which passively provides increased mana regeneration.

D2R Echoing Strike Warlock Tips

  • Cast Hex: Bane to add magic damage to Echoing Strike, especially against monsters immune to physical damage (such as in Act 5 Hell Difficulty).
  • You can customize this build by equipping weapons that provide Enhanced Damage and allocating more skill points as needed.
  • Get a reliable minion (like Hephasto the Armorer in Act 4 River of Flame) with Holy Freeze or Fanaticism Aura. Conviction Aura is also useful, though rarer.
  • The Insight Runeword is strong early due to affixes like FCR, Enhanced Damage, and Critical Strike.
  • Equip items with "+ to Skills" to boost Echoing Strike damage and improve Levitation Mastery benefits (like reduced attribute requirements).
  • If you lack enough attributes for elite two-handed weapons, invest in Levitation Mastery to meet requirements.
