Diablo 4 , Game Guides

Simple, reliable, and effective. These are the words commonly used to describe the Blessed Hammer Paladin build in Diablo 4. The “Hammerdin,” as it’s often called, still has that iconic playstyle that is reminiscent of the old Diablo games. However, there are certain changes that are welcome, particularly those brought about by the Lord of Hatred expansion.
If you want to know how to create one of the best leveling builds for the Paladin in Season 13, then read further to learn more. I will go over the Hammerdin’s mechanics, skills, and best D4 items to use for optimal performance!
How Does the Blessed Hammer Paladin Work in Diablo 4 Season 13?
All builds have changed dramatically in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred, largely due to the skill tree changes, as well as the introduction of the Talisman System. We already have a glimpse of what the new skill trees are like, especially given that the Paladin comes with three major nodes for each active skill that alter it in one way or another.
For the Blessed Hammer Paladin, that skill upgrade comes in the form of “Disciples’ Halo.” When allocated, Blessed Hammer becomes a “Disciple” skill rather than a Judicator skill, thus allowing you to take advantage of various boosts in damage while you are in Arbiter Form.
Speaking of which, staying in Arbiter Form provides damage reduction and a significant increase in damage. These are unlocked by using certain aspects, including Aspect of Ascension, Aspect of Lagera’s Sovereignty, Aspect of Glynn’s Anvil, and Aspect of Interdiction, among others.
For defense, this build harnesses the defensive power of Resolve to provide huge boosts in armor. In fact, a few pieces of gear will be tempered with “+ Maximum Resolve Stacks” to ensure you don’t die in Torment XII or in the higher Pit Levels.
D4 Blessed Hammer Paladin: Skill Rotation
- Every time you enter a new area, cast Arbiter of Justice. This improves your damage significantly.
- Use Falling Star to get around the map. Use it often, as it keeps Arbiter Form up for longer periods of time.
- When you see enemies in the vicinity, cast Blessed Hammer until they are dead. If you have Argent Veil equipped, don’t forget to use an Arbiter’s Evade (default: spacebar) every four seconds.
- Always have Fanaticism Aura and Defiance Aura up.
- Use Consecration when there are enemies around.
D4 Blessed Hammer Paladin Build: Ideal Skill Allocation
- 1 point on Holy Bolt (for early leveling. Remove point after maxing out Blessed Hammer)
- 15 points on Blessed Hammer
- 1 point on Disciples’ Halo (Blessed Hammer)
- 1 point on Damage Bonus
- 1 point on Cast Speed
- 15 points on Fanaticism Aura
- 1 point on Rite of Vengeance
- 1 point on Extra Passive Stack
- 1 point on Resource Generation
- 15 points on Defiance Aura
- 1 point of Rite of Might
- 1 point on Maximum Life
- 1 point on Bonus Healing
- 1 point on Falling Star
- 1 point on Starfall
- 1 point on Additional Charge
- 1 point on Cooldown Reduction
- 15 points on Consecration
- 1 point on Hallowed Ground
- 1 point on Duration
- 1 point on Fortify
- 4 points on Arbiter of Justice
- 1 point on Seraph’s Wings
- 1 point on Duration
- 1 point on Wing Strike Recast
Make sure to max out Blessed Hammer and take its associated upgrades as soon as possible. After you have done so, it’s safe to remove Holy Bolt so that you can allocate a point on any of the skills listed above.
Early on, you might struggle to maintain Faith, especially when you are whirling a lot of hammers in quick succession. If that is the case, put at least five points on Rally (with the Duration, Cost Reduction, and Words or Rejuvenation upgrades). Take some points off Consecration to do this.
D4 Blessed Hammer Paladin: Gear Choices
Your top priority is to get your critical strike chance, critical strike damage, and attack speed up considerably so that using Blessed Hammer feels smooth. You also want to make sure that you put “+ to Maximum Resolve Stacks” wherever possible.
Having said that, here are the modifiers that you need to prioritize:
- Critical Strike Damage
- Critical Strike Chance
- Attack Speed
- Vulnerable Damage
- Strength
- All Damage or Holy Damage Multiplier

D4 Blessed Hammer Paladin: Paragon Nodes
1st: Honed Glyph

2nd: Resplendence Glyph

3rd: Apostle Glyph

4th: Spirit Glyph

5th: Sentinel Glyph

Upgrade Priority:
- Spirit
- Apostle
- Canny
- Honed
- Sentinel
Note: You can switch the Sentinel Glyph on the fifth Paragon Board with the Arbiter Glyph. Just make sure to remove the Strength nodes on the board and replace them with Willpower.
In case you were wondering why we chose the Sentinel Glyph in the first place, it is to take advantage of its modifier: “You deal 1.5% increased damage for each stack of Resolve you have.”
Blessed Hammer Paladin: Tips
- The legendary aspects are quite strong in the endgame. However, you can switch to Argent Veil and Ring of Starless Skies, particularly when you are speedfarming War Plans and Nightmare Dungeons.
- When you have Argent Veil equipped, make sure to use Arbiter’s Evade every four seconds, so that you can benefit from its damage buff.
- Having enough Faith can be an issue in the early game. If you have trouble sustaining Faith, respec some points from Fanaticism, Defiance, and Consecration and put them on Rally. Use Rally whenever it is available.
- Critical strike damage is a priority, as is attack speed and critical strike chance. Hence, find some equipment that can roll those modifiers and equip it.
- Unique items and Mythic Uniques can now be tempered via the Blacksmith. I highly recommend that you put Maximum Resolve Stacks for defensive items and Critical Strike Damage on weapons and accessories.
- Complete the Light’s Epiphany set as soon as possible. When you have the full set equipped, the Blessed Hammer Paladin’s true power can be felt immediately.
- Herald’s Morningstar is also mandatory for the build. Accomplish some War Plans activities and accumulate Obols. After that, go to the Purveyor of Curiosities and get some 1-handed maces until you have the said unique item.
- Additionally, you can take a basic or ancestral 1-handed mace (of Common (White) rarity and put it in the Horadric Cube along with an Enhanced Primordial Dust and 10 Raw Primordial Dust. Choose “Upgrade to Unique” when those items are in place.
PROS
+Awesome season starter if you wish to play a Paladin in Diablo 4 Season 13.
+Really takes off when you have enough attack speed affixes on your gear.
+A build with an iconic playstyle reminiscent of the old Diablo games.
CONS
-You have to be stationary to cast Blessed Hammer.
-A “speedy” version of this build requires the Argent Veil.
FAQ
How Do I Fix Faith Issues Early On?
Allocate some skill points to Rally, and activate the said skill as many times as needed. Once you have enough “Faith per Second” affixes on your gear, you can safely remove Faith and then spend those points on Fanaticism, Defiance, or Consecration.
Are There Any Mandatory Items for This Build?
Yes, they are:
- Herald’s Morningstar: Greatly boosts the damage of Blessed Hammer.
- Light’s Epiphany Set: Grants a bunch of bonuses when you are in Arbiter Form.
- Blood-Mad Idol: Provides a huge damage boost when affected by Berserking.
Is This Build Viable in Hardcore?
Absolutely! This is thanks to the combination of Resolve stacks, huge armor, and high block chance.
