Long Guide

OSRS Slug Menace Long Guide

Starting Off

Items needed: Commorb, Ardougne teleport (optional)

Your next mission with the Temple Knights begins at Falador Park. Track down Sir Tiffy Cashien - he's got news about strange happenings in Witchaven. Apparently, things have gotten a bit weird over there. After filling you in, he'll upgrade your Commorb to version 2, which gets this whole investigation rolling.

Witchaven

Witchaven NPC Locations

Once you arrive in this fishy little town, your first stop is Colonel O'Niall. You'll find him taking it easy in a rocking chair on the northeastern pier. He's pretty worried about how the locals have been acting, especially Mayor Hobb, who's gotten really obsessed with some old shrine west of town.

Colonel O'Niall requests information from three villagers:

  • Mayor Hobb
  • Brother Maledict
  • Holgart

Speak with them in any sequence.

The Mayor

Head to the northwestern side of town to find Mayor Hobb's house. The conversation gets interesting - he's definitely acting suspicious. Here's the crucial bit: after you finish talking (make sure to end with "Nothing at the moment, thanks"), don't run off. Savant will chime in through your Commorb v2, asking you to scan the mayor.

Pro tip: It takes about 3-4 seconds for Savant to contact you after the conversation ends, so be patient.

Brother Maledict and Holgart

Brother Maledict and Holgart locations

The church is your next stop for Brother Maledict. He's noticed some odd behavior in his congregation lately - definitely not a good sign. After that quick chat, you'll want to find Holgart nearby. Turns out the mayor's been making some questionable decisions with the town's boats.

The Shrine

After updating O'Niall, walk west out of town toward the ruined shrine. You'll spot stairs leading underground.

Inside the shrine, here's a neat trick - look at your minimap for a red section of the wall. That's your false wall right there. Give it a push, and you'll find yourself in a tunnel filled with some rather angry level 45 giant lobsters. You can either brave the tunnel or use the Agility shortcut if you've got the levels for it.

At the end, you'll find this imposing door that's got "don't touch me" written all over it - literally, trying to open it deals 5 damage. Stand near it, and Savant will call through your Commorb about some strange markings. Don't forget to grab that dead sea slug lying around before you leave - trust me, you'll need it later.

Quick tip: Make sure you've got a free inventory spot when Savant scans the door, or you won't get the transcription.

The Pages Hunt

Finding the missing pages

You'll need:

  • Swamp paste (don't worry, you won't actually use it)
  • That dead sea slug you picked up
  • Five free inventory slots (very important!)

First stop is Jorral's Outpost - Savant will coach you on what to say. After getting the translation, it's back to Witchaven for a proper investigation. O'Niall sends you to chat with the priest, but you'll catch an interesting scene - the mayor sneaking out of the church right before you enter. Inside, you'll find a rather sickly-looking priest who mentions a book with three missing pages.

These pages are scattered around town:

  • First one's in the mayor's desk (bit of light thievery required)
  • Second one comes from Ezekial Lovecraft at the fishing store
  • Last one's from O'Niall himself, but it's torn into three pieces

The Glue Puzzle

You might think that swamp paste would be perfect for fixing those torn pages, but Savant quickly shuts that idea down. Instead, we need something more... specialized. Time for a trip to the Fishing Platform!

Talk to Jeb (he's hanging around near Holgart) for a ride to the platform. Once there, find Bailey in his little room in the southwest corner. Hand him that dead sea slug you have, and he'll whip up some special sea slug glue. Pretty handy having a seafood expert around!

Using the sea slug glue on your page fragments will start the repair minigame. The fragments work like puzzle pieces - rotate and flip them until they match. Here's a tip: One side is noticeably lighter than the other, so that's your clue for getting all the pieces facing the right way. The puzzle will automatically close once you've got it right.

Crafting the Runes

Crafting the Special Runes

This is probably the trickiest part of the quest, so let's take a look:

What you'll need:

  • Your trusty Commorb
  • Those three pages you just pieced together
  • A chisel
  • At least 5 rune or pure essence (bring more - you'll probably fail a few times)
  • Ways to access various altars

Each page contains instructions for crafting modified runes. Right-click the pages to shape essence into special versions of air, water, fire, earth, and mind runes. Lower Runecrafting levels increase failure rate - bring extra essence.

The Altar Run

Once you've got your shaped runes (if they survived the crafting process), it's time for a grand tour of Runescape's altars. You've got options here - you can use the Abyss, talismans/tiaras, or even Guardians of the Rift if you're set up for it. Here's where each altar is hiding:

  • Air Altar: Head south of Falador. Simple enough if you've got the Falador teleport.
  • Water Altar: South of Lumbridge, right by that fairy ring shack to Zanaris.
  • Earth Altar: Northeast of Varrock, near the Lumberyard. That Lumberyard teleport comes in handy here.
  • Fire Altar: Just outside Al Kharid, west of the Emir's Arena.
  • Mind Altar: North of Falador, near the Wilderness ditch and the Goblin village.

The Final Showdown

Head back to that shrine in Witchaven, and get ready for some action. When you use those special runes on the door... well, turns out Mayor Hobb's been playing us all along. Classic villain move, really - he tricked us into breaking the White Knights' seal keeping Mother Mallum trapped.

The Slug Prince Fight

The Slug Prince Fight in OSRS Slug Menace

Now you've got to deal with a level 62 Slug Prince. Here's what you need to know:

  • Only melee attacks will work
  • The Slug Prince drains prayer points with successful hits. Combat from behind the stone pillars provides safe distance for halberd attacks.

After you take down the prince, you'll get a front-row seat to meet Mother Mallum herself. Things get pretty intense, but Savant's got your back - she'll teleport you straight to Falador Park. One quick chat with Sir Tiffy Cashien later, and you're done!

The Rewards

  • 1 Quest point
  • 3,500 XP in Crafting, Runecraft, and Thieving
  • Temple Knight promotion to Proselyte rank
