Do you want to play a build in PoE 2 Rise of the Abyssal League that can better utilize both Galvanic Shards and Shockburst Rounds? If so, you’ll want to finish the rest of this article! For more ideas of what kinds of builds perform strongly early on, also check 10 Best Path of Exile 2 Builds in Early Access, which highlights powerful build archetypes under constrained gear. For today, we are going to talk about our version of the Galvanic Shards Deadeye in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict!

Because the endgame gear of this build is quite expensive, you might want to visit our PoE 2 Store where you can get great deals on everything that the Galvanic Shards Deadeye uses.

Why Play the Galvanic Shards Deadeye in Patch 0.3.0?

This build plays largely the same as the Galvanic Shards Witchhunter, though with some stark differences that make it leaps and bounds better. First of all, you will use the Deadeye ascendancy class, which is the quintessential character to choose when playing any projectile-based build in PoE 2 Rise of the Abyssal League.

Ascendancy nodes such as Far Shot and Eagle Eyes ensure that you always hit enemies hard, fast, and deadly. Yes, our version of the build actually does not allocate Endless Munitions and we will explain why later on in this PoE 2 guide.

Your primary skills still include Galvanic Shards, Shockburst Rounds, and Stormcaller Arrow similar to the Witchhunter variant. Galvanic Shards and Shockburst Rounds are your one-two combo against all enemies in the game. Stormcaller Arrow is just there to give you a much higher chance to inflict Shock on the enemy, which is critical for Shockburst Rounds to deal significant amounts of damage.

Defensively, the Galvanic Shards Deadeye has a relatively high amount of energy shield. Despite the adjustments made to armor in PoE 2 Patch 0.3.0, the energy shield still provides better value when it comes to improving your survivability.

Additionally, you will allocate Gathering Winds and subsequently Wind Ward so that you can gain access to another layer of defense.

If you look at how other players have developed their own Galvanic Shards Deadeye builds in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict, our version is actually quite different. More specifically, you don’t have to go down the passive tree to allocate additional lightning penetration nodes because you only need to attain 86% total lightning penetration.

After attaining 86% lightning penetration, the rest is handled by Conductivity. That is basically all you need to make this build obliterate any monster you encounter in the game!

Anyway, here are the ideal order of ascendancy nodes to take for the Galvanic Shards Deadeye build in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict:

  1. Far Shot
  2. Gathering Winds
  3. Eagle Eyes
  4. Wind Ward

If you want to know what modifiers you should prioritize when gearing the Galvanic Shards Deadeye, look for the following:

  • Increased Physical Damage
  • Added Physical Damage
  • Increased Elemental Damage with Attacks
  • Increased Attack Speed
  • + to Level of All Projectile Skills
  • Adds Lightning Damage to Attacks
  • Adds Physical Damage to Attacks
  • Increased Evasion/Energy Shield
  • + to Evasion, + to Energy Shield (Hybrid)
  • Increased Energy Shield
  • + to Maximum Energy Shield

Playstyle

The first thing you need to do is acquaint yourself with the weapon set skills system in PoE 2. This is so that whenever you press a certain skill, some specific nodes on the passive tree are used to improve their effects. What's good about this system is that it has become more seamless in Patch 0.3.0.

If you want clarity on how skill gem slots, passive bonuses, and weapon-set transitions interplay, check PoE 2 Weapon Set Skill Points Explained, which lays out how points are allocated per weapon set.

Having said that, Galvanic Shards and Shockburst Rounds are on Weapon Set 1. All passive nodes that are specifically for these skills have something to do with amplifying their damage, including lightning penetration from “Exposed to the Storm” and increased attack damage from “Maiming Strike.”

Weapon Set 2 mainly amplifies the magnitude, as well as increases the duration of Shock to the enemy. This is mainly for your Stormcaller Arrow setup.

With that out of the way, just use Galvanic Shards while mapping. When you have all of the items that will be outlined in this PoE 2 build guide, you will eliminate almost everything without the need for Shockburst Rounds.

The only time the Shockburst Rounds skill is needed is when you fight rare monsters and bosses. Make sure that the enemy is affected by Shock first before you unload your entire Shockburst Rounds. To do this, you either hit enemies with Galvanic Shards or use Stormcaller Arrow (the latter is the preferred method).

Keep an eye out on your Shockburst Rounds. If you reach its last two bullets, activate Emergency Reload to continuously fire at the enemy. In most cases, the enemy you are fighting will go down with this combo. If not, simply fire Shockburst Rounds again and reapply Shock when it expires.

On map and pinnacle bosses, cast Conductivity and Voltaic Mark prior to using Stormcaller Arrow. Conductivity lowers the lightning resistance of the target even further, while the Voltaic Mark makes the enemy more likely to be inflicted by Shock.

Galvanic Shards Deadeye Gear Recommendations

When it comes to the pieces of gear you need to equip for the PoE 2 Galvanic Shards Deadeye, make sure to only settle for hybrid evasion/energy shield items. The only exception to this rule is the helmet and we will explain why in its appropriate section.

Items in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict can get expensive really fast. We will not be surprised if that is the case with our version of the Galvanic Shards Deadeye. If you need help with currency like buying PoE 2 Divine Orbs, just visit our online store any day of the week!

Weapon

Both of your main damage dealers can benefit from physical damage. Thus, roll a couple of physical damage mods on the Desolate Crossbow. Why this particular crossbow base and not others? That is because the Desolate Crossbow has the highest base physical damage in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict.

If you can afford one, purchase a Desolate Crossbow with increased attack speed and “+7 to Level of All Projectile Skills.” Since the mana cost of skills scales with their level, it is only fitting to include “Gain Mana per Enemy Killed” as well.

Weapon 2

The sole purpose of your second weapon is to be able to utilize Stormcaller Arrow. You want to be quick in firing the arrows because the faster you can inflict Shock, the less time you need to shift to Shockburst Rounds to defeat the enemy.

Having said that, get an Ironwood Shortbow because it has a fast attack speed that doesn’t require a lot of dexterity to use. Besides increased attack speed, you can also get some DEX and the coveted “Bow Attacks Fire an Additional Arrow.”

Of course, you need to pair your bow with the right quiver. That quiver is, of course, the Primed Quiver for its attack speed implicit mod. The other modifiers you need include increased attack speed, lightning damage to attacks, and +2 to projectile skills.

Body Armor

The Falconer’s Jacket is an incredible body armor that will satisfy the needs of the Galvanic Shards Deadeye, particularly in terms of defense. This is a hybrid EV/ES-based gear that can roll more than 1,100 evasion and 400 energy shield (if you are lucky).

Anyway, you do not need increases in Spirit here because you’re not using a lot of persistent buffs. Instead, focus on attaining the numbers mentioned above by getting the right modifiers.

If you can afford the endgame Falconer’s Jacket with three elemental resistance mods, then that is definitely worth the purchase!

Helmet

If you can recall, we mentioned earlier that there is one gear slot where you don’t need the hybrid EV/ES gear. That is none other than the helmet slot. The reason for this is that this build takes “Subterfuge Mask” as one of its notable passive skills. This node provides two points of evasion for every point of energy shield on your helmet. If you have 400 energy shield, for example, that translates to a whopping 800-point boost to your evasion rating!

To ensure that you get a really high energy shield value, grab a Kamasan Tiara that has “+ to Maximum Energy Shield” and “% Increased Energy Shield.” The other mods can be anything that you need.

Do not forget to insert a Greater Iron Rune for another 25% increase in energy shield!

Gloves

The PoE 2 Galvanic Shards Deadeye can greatly benefit from the new Leopold’s Applause unique gloves. As to why that is, you must understand how lightning penetration works in the game.

Lightning penetration is a damage mechanic that lets you cut through the enemy’s lightning resistance. By default, this value is only capped until 0%. However, what Leopold’s Applause does is it further reduces the lightning resistance of an enemy down to -50%!

Now, to achieve that number, you only need several Emerald Jewels with 10% lightning penetration each, followed by the notable passive skill “Exposed to the Storm.” The rest is then handled by the Conductivity curse, which is why it is part of your main bossing rotation.

Leopold’s Applause is such an exceptional pair of gloves for this build, so much so that it is quite expensive at the time of writing. If you do not have any PoE 2 Currency, do not worry! You can buy Leopold’s Applause from our PoE 2 Store.

If you do not have the means of purchasing Leopold’s Applause just yet, you could use a pair of Vaal Wraps that have physical and lightning damage to attacks, as well as increased attack speed.

Boots

Having a 35% increased movement speed on the boots is non-negotiable. You want to be able to move quickly to improve your mapping efficiency.

In addition, if you lack DEX or INT, you could go for these attributes on the Quickslip Shoes. The other modifiers can be anything that you want.

Amulet

There are only several modifiers that you need to prioritize on the amulet. Chief among them is the “+3 to Level of All Projectile Skills,” which your primary skills can certainly benefit from.

You can also roll a couple of energy shield-enhancing modifiers on the amulet. Besides that, you might want to get some maximum life as well.

For anoints, the cheapest one that you can get is Advanced Munitions. This allows you to easily inflict Shock on the enemy using Stormcaller Arrow. Advanced Munitions require Distilled Guilt, Distilled Fear, and Distilled Greed.

Once you can afford to instill the Subterfuge Mask, switch to the said notable passive skill immediately. This is a bit more expensive because it needs Distilled Ire, Distilled Suffering, and Distilled Paranoia. It is the best one you can use, though, since it greatly boosts your evasion via your energy shield helmet.

Ring

Despite Galvanic Shards and Shockburst Rounds requiring physical damage to boost their lethality, you still need some lightning damage in order to easily inflict Shock. This elemental ailment is crucial to the success of the build, which is why it bears repeating.

Buy a Breach Ring that has physical and lightning damage to attacks. Enhance these modifiers further by using the Reaver Catalysts. You can also roll accuracy on the ring, so if you feel that your shots are not hitting as often as you’d like, you can address that by having the appropriate accuracy mod.

The rest of the mods on the ring can be anything that you need for your Galvanic Shards Deadeye build in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict. Do you still lack fire resistance? You can certainly have that on the Breach Ring as well.

Belt

The Galvanic Shards Deadeye in the Rise of the Abyssal League still needs a respectable amount of STR to wield the endgame crossbow and use red support gems. That is why a rare Double Belt that has a high STR roll is preferred. It is also quite cheap that you will have no good reason not to have one by the time you reach the endgame.

Charms

Even though you can kill enemies from a distance most of the time, there are still some that will have a chance to jump on you, possibly stunning you at an inopportune moment. To prevent this from happening, we highly recommend that you wear the Stone Charm, preferably with “Increased Duration.”

The other two charm slots are reserved for a couple of unique charms. The first one is Nascent Hope—a unique Thawing Charm that forces your energy shield recharge to commence after you become frozen by the enemy.

The second is The Fall of the Axe. This is quite an expensive unique charm but it is not hard to understand why. This thing grants the Onslaught Buff after its specific condition is met. Onslaught, for those who do not know, grants a 20% increase in skill speed and a 10% boost in movement speed for a brief period.

When combined with the Tailwind buff from Gathering Winds, the Onslaught provided by The Fall of the Axe makes you an effective killing machine in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict!

Do you find The Fall of the Axe sold for very steep prices on the trade website? Head to our PoE 2 Store and buy The Fall of the Axe from us. You cannot get a better deal anywhere else!

Jewels

While most swear by the use of Against the Darkness on their Galvanic Shards Deadeye builds, there is actually a much better one you can invest in. That unique jewel is From Nothing which specifically allows you to allocate passive skills near “Whispers of Doom.”

The reason why From Nothing is a massive upgrade over a regular jewel is that it enables you to take Electric Amplification for lightning exposure and lightning penetration, as well as Power Conduction for shock duration and magnitude of shock.

The rest of the jewels can be filled by Emeralds that have “Damage Penetrates Lightning Resistance” along with any three of the following mods:

  • Increased Lightning Damage
  • Increased Damage with Crossbows
  • Increased Attack Speed with Crossbows
  • Increased Attack Speed
  • Increased Projectile Damage
  • Herald Skills Deal Increased Damage

Passive Tree

It is customary for your early levels to get damage nodes on the passive tree. Fortunately, navigating the passive tree on the PoE 2 Galvanic Shards Deadeye build is easy to do.

After taking Vile Wounds, head to the right and take Catalysis. Next, go to the lightning cluster nodes immediately to the right of Vile Wounds. Here, you will set passive skills for Weapon Set 2 and then allocate Frazzled first before Rattled. If you want guidance on which notable passive nodes move the needle most early, Best Notable Passive Skills in Path of Exile 2 Early Access gives a ranked overview of the best early-take nodes and keystones.

Go right and up until you get to Coming Calamity. When you have that allocated, head up again. When you reach the other set of lightning nodes, go for Wild Storm first as it boosts your damage significantly just by taking this notable passive skill. Exposed to the Storm is solely for Weapon Set 1, so don’t forget to do that.

From there, head left and allocate the last set of lightning nodes for the Galvanic Shards Deadeye. General Electric is quite an awesome passive node because it grants an increased chance to Shock enemies by 40%.

While our version of the Galvanic Shards Deadeye in PoE 2 Patch 0.3.0 is not necessarily a crit build, it can still land critical hits from time to time. Hence, it can still benefit from the “Harmonic Generator” notable passive skill, particularly the part where it increases the magnitude of Shock by 40%, so long as it is inflicted via a critical hit.

Once you have all of the above-mentioned passive nodes allocated, you now have the freedom of how you wish to finish the tree. You could take all of the offensive nodes first, though having some evasion and energy shield passives is not bad at all.

Tips and Strategies

Level Up with Lightning Arrow and Lightning Rod

Galvanic Shards is a crossbow skill in Path of Exile 2 that you can access as early as level 14. However, Shockburst Rounds won’t be available until level 41. That is why we recommend that you level up your character using Lightning Arrow and Lightning Rod, especially if you want to go through the campaign as quickly as possible. If you're aiming for smooth early progression, consider referencing Best Leveling Builds in Path of Exile 2 [0.2.1] to see which builds make leveling fast and efficient.

Now, you will need to equip a bow and quiver to use the arrow skills, but that shouldn’t be a problem because you are going to use them in the future anyway.

If you like to know how to level up your character using the lightning skills just mentioned, you can refer to our PoE 2 Lightning Arrow Deadeye build guide for more information.

When should you swap to a crossbow, you ask? Well, as soon as you can get the Shockburst Rounds skill, that is the perfect time to transition to your main setup.

Swap Far Shot with Point Blank

If you have noticed, we took Far Shot instead of Point Blank for this build primarily because we want to boost the damage of Shockburst Rounds as much as possible. Since you are mostly situated a good distance away from the enemy while using Shockburst Rounds, you can definitely deal more damage with Far Shot because of that.

However, if you are accustomed to getting up close and personal with the enemy because you like to “shotgun” enemies with Galvanic Shards, then you can go with the Point Blank ascendancy node instead.

Now, if you do change to Point Blank, make sure to replace the “Death from Afar” notable passive skill with “Stand and Deliver.”

Why Taking Endless Munitions Lowers Your DPS

People who took the Endless Munitions ascendancy node were fooled because it actually lowers their damage output, particularly with Shockburst Rounds.

You see, Shockburst Rounds has a cap on how many projectiles you can shoot per second based on the skill’s fire rate. Since Endless Munitions effectively doubles your projectiles, the game will literally reduce the fire rate of Shockburst Rounds to stay well within the limit. If you don’t believe us, just plug your character into POB and allocate/remove Endless Munitions.

Okay, if Endless Munitions will no longer be allocated, which ascendancy node should you replace it with? Well, you should use Eagle Eyes because you always deal consistent damage regardless of your distance to the enemy.

Is Evasion Necessary?

Although you have a relatively high amount of energy shield on our version of the PoE 2 Galvanic Shards Deadeye build, you still need to achieve a respectable level of evasion. We recommend that you achieve at least 65% so that you can passively dodge the enemy’s assault.

The reason why you still need some evasion despite having copious amounts of energy shield is that you want multiple layers of defense to fend off your foes’ attacks. Hence, wearing mostly EV/ES gear is necessary from a survival standpoint.

Can I Use Hyrri’s Ire?

Hyrri’s Ire is a unique item in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict that works similarly to the Acrobatics keystone passive. More specifically, you can evade all hits from the enemy if you have not been hit in the past four seconds.

The only reason why we didn’t put this in the “Body Armor” section of our build guide is that this thing does not possess any energy shield whatsoever. However, this does not mean that it is not a viable item to use for the build. In fact, it does have some advantages, such as boosting your damage somewhat, as well as increasing your evasion and elemental ailment threshold.

You can buy Hyrri’s Ire in our PoE 2 Store if you are interested.

Galvanic Shards Deadeye

Final Thoughts

The Galvanic Shards Deadeye is a fun and awesome build that can delete foes from existence with relative ease. Although it does require a prior setup to deal the most amount of damage, it is quite easy to do that even a beginner will have no problem with that.

Galvanic Shards and Shockburst Rounds do not have meaningful changes in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict. However, crossbows, in general, have their damage increased considerably, making the aforementioned skills hit harder than ever before!

We chose the Deadeye ascendancy class for this build because of her ability to deal even more damage with Gathering Winds and Far Shot. Of course, if you want to fight the enemy within striking distance, you could opt for Point Blank instead.

Our version of this build has a relatively high amount of energy shield. This is because we found that having a mix of both ES and EV bodes well for the survival of your character.

Because of its damage potential, especially in the endgame, it is no wonder why the Galvanic Shards Deadeye is a build that a lot of people enjoy in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict!

But what do you think? Are you going to give the Galvanic Shards Deadeye a whirl any time soon? If so, what made you want to try it out? Share your thoughts in the comments!
