We may have found the build that trumps the Lightning Spear Amazon in terms of power in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict. That is, of course, the Wind Serpent's Fury Deadeye! If you want to know why this build beats the Amazon in both mapping and bossing scenarios, read further to learn more!

Since the build has gained a lot of traction lately, you might find that the best items for the Wind Serpent's Fury Deadeye are quite expensive. You don't have to worry about that, though, because we are glad to help you with your gearing needs. Just head to our PoE 2 Store, where you can find all of the rare items needed for this build and more!

Why Play the Wind Serpent's Fury Deadeye in Patch 0.3.0?

In the early days of the previous PoE 2 expansion, a lot of people used the Amazon ascendancy class for its ability to land critical hits more frequently. There is this one spear skill that was not really utilized because people thought that it was worth nothing. However, it seems that Wind Serpent's Fury is actually quite powerful, and it still is in the PoE 2 Rise of the Abyssals League.

Wind Serpent's Fury is a spear-only skill that has three components—thrust, serpent, and shockwave. The initial thrust knocks enemies back but the bulk of the skill's damage comes from the serpents and the resulting shockwave.

Each Frenzy Charge you consume when using the skill will increase the number of serpents that are unleashed. When the enemy's back is against the wall, the skill deals more damage due to the shockwave, so positioning is key if you want to maximize the potential of Wind Serpent's Fury.

Lightning Spear is still the skill you will use for mapping. Its ability to hit a lot of monsters with just a single use makes it quite unbeatable in that regard.

Now, you are probably wondering why the Deadeye ascendancy class is the ideal choice for this build and not Amazon. The answer is that the former has access to ascendancy nodes that have something to do with creating and sustaining Frenzy Charges, which is key to the success of the build.

Avidity allows you to gain the maximum number of Frenzy Charges. Along with the Frenetic notable passive skill, you will have a 35% chance to achieve just that!

Gaining Frenzy Charges on this build is easy. All you have to do is apply Sniper's Mark on a rare monster or boss and then utilize Spear Stab, which is the default melee attack for spear-wielders in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict.

Thrilling Chase is amazing. This ascendancy node alone effectively doubles the damage output of Wind Serpent's Fury and Lightning Spear! Don't worry if you attack like a madman because you will always have Frenzy Charges with this build!

This build has a ton of flexibility when it comes to skills other than Lightning Spear and Wind Serpent's Fury. If you want quality-of-life when it comes to using Sniper's Mark, you can employ Cast on Critical to do that automatically.

If you want to use the Deliberation support gem without a heavy movement speed penalty, you can summon the Rhoa Mount and ride it. Doing this essentially removes any movement-reducing effects, though you need to have enough Spirit to activate the said companion.

In terms of off-hand weapons, you can use a unique item that allows you to deal significantly more damage at the cost of not having enough spirit for CoC. If you don't want that, you could just get a rare sceptre with high amounts of Spirit.

Another reason why the Deadeye ascendancy class is amazing for this PoE 2 build is that she has access to Tailwind, which greatly increases skill speed and movement speed so long as you are attacking.

As you follow the ascendancy node path, be aware of when you'll unlock your third ascendancy—check out the How to Get 3rd Ascendancy in PoE 2 [0.2.0] guide for detailed prerequisites and trials so you don’t miss yours.

Here is the ideal order of ascendancy nodes to take when playing the Wind Serpent's Fury Deadeye in Patch 0.3.0:

  1. Gathering Winds
  2. Avidity
  3. Thrilling Chase
  4. Wind Ward
Wind Ward

Since you do not have an easy time achieving a high critical hit chance compared to the Amazon, you must look for the following modifiers when searching for items to get the most out of the Wind Serpent's Fury Deadeye:

  • + to Critical Hit Chance
  • + to Critical Damage Bonus
  • Adds Physical Damage to Attacks
  • Adds Fire Damage to Attacks
  • Adds Cold Damage to Attacks
  • Adds Lightning Damage to Attacks
  • + to Level of All Projectile Skills
  • + to Level of All Melee Skills

Playstyle

Lightning Spear is mainly used for mapping. You could utilize it to finish pinnacle bosses off if they only have a sliver of their maximum life left.

The star of the show is Wind Serpent's Fury. You cannot use it if you don't have Frenzy Charges, so make sure that you get some prior to fighting the map boss.

If you enjoy ranged or projectile-based builds beyond Deadeye, you might also want to browse the Top Ranged Builds in PoE 2: Bow - Spell - and DOT Archetypes [0.2.1] for inspiration on other strong bow, spell, and damage-over-time archetypes.

For pinnacle bosses, you can gain Frenzy Charges by applying Sniper's Mark and then using Spear Stab a few times until you have seven charges. When you have the maximum number of Frenzy Charges, cast Infernal Cry for extra fire damage and then unleash the serpents!

If you can position yourself in a way that pushes enemies against a wall, that is better because of the shockwave that is created in the process. This is quite easy to do with Xesht and the Arbiter of Ash since they are always near a wall to begin with.

Infernal Cry can be set to just level 3 to keep the STR requirement to a minimum. If you don't have problems gaining STR through gear, then you can level it up as high as you can.

Wind Serpent's Fury Deadeye Gear Recommendations

As mentioned earlier, the Wind Serpent's Fury Deadeye is quite popular in PoE 2 Patch 0.3.0. Thus, expect its pieces of gear to be quite expensive. If you need to buy PoE 2 Currency, do not hesitate to visit our online shop!

Weapon

There really is only one weapon for the Wind Serpent's Fury Deadeye and that is the Tangletongue. This unique spear significantly increases your critical hit chance without trying!

It is imperative that you get one that is close to a 20% critical hit chance as much as possible. Better yet, buy Tangletongue directly from our PoE 2 Store at an affordable price!

Weapon

Offhand

Your offhand weapon is none other than a sceptre. As to whether you will use a unique sceptre or a rare one, that depends on what you want.

If you only care about dealing the most amount of damage possible with your primary skills, then go for the Sacred Flame. Get one that has close to 60% extra fire damage for the maximum benefit. Another advantage of using the Sacred Flame besides its damage bonus is that it has Purity of Fire, which grants a boost in fire resistance. Having Purity of Fire alleviates the need to have fire resistance mods on your pieces of gear.

Offhand

Now, if you want to activate Cast on Critical and other persistent buffs, then you will need a rare sceptre for that. Grab one that has at least 145 Spirit because our version of the PoE 2 Wind Serpent’s Fury Deadeye utilizes several Spirit Skills.

Although you can use any type of sceptre, we highly recommend the Omen Sceptre because of Malice. In case you do not know, Malice applies the Critical Weakness debuff on enemies, making them more than likely to suffer from a critical hit with your attacks!

Body Armor

Riding the Rhoa Mount in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict does not make you move faster. However, what does allow you to move faster is any modifier that increases your movement speed. Thus, get the Falconer’s Jacket in the endgame because it grants a 5% boost in movement speed when equipped.

You do not need to have Spirit on body armor. Just go for more life, evasion/energy shield, and some resistance modifiers (whichever you need).

If you are able to corrupt this body armor and you somehow end up with one that has a few sockets, populate those slots with Greater Iron Runes for a whopping 75% increase in evasion and energy shield!

Helmet

You will allocate the Subterfuge Mask on this build, which is a notable passive skill that grants two points of evasion for every point of energy shield you have on your equipped helmet. That is why you need to go for an INT-based helmet like the Kamasan Tiara for the highest amount of energy shield for this gear slot.

Go for a couple of ES mods, life, and increased critical hit chance. The other two suffixes can be resistance mods that you still need for your particular character.

Gloves

Any added physical and elemental damage to attack modifiers works wonders for the Wind Serpent’s Fury Deadeye. Grab a hybrid EV/ES gloves with three damage mods on the prefix. The suffixes can still be resistance mods, though you can go for DEX or INT if you need to satisfy certain attribute requirements on gear. If you do not have any problem with resistances and attributes, get a pair of gloves that has “+2 to Level of All Melee Skills,” which should boost the damage of Wind Serpent’s Fury!

Boots

The philosophy of gearing is the same for the boots, albeit it must have a 35% increased movement speed mod, along with some resistance modifiers, and any enhancements to evasion and energy shield. If you want to have item rarity, you can have that on the boots as well.

Amulet

If you want an amulet that significantly boosts the damage of your primary skills, then purchase the Beacon of Azis. This amulet essentially enables you to deal tremendous amounts of damage to the enemy via critical hits. That is why it’s important to have at least 85% critical hit chance to get the most out of Beacon of Azis!

For a more balanced amulet, a rare Stellar or Solar Amulet will suffice. Which base type you should use depends on whether you need a slight boost in attributes or Spirit.

Anyway, if you pick the rare amulet, make sure that it has at least 45 Spirit. Besides that, you can roll “+3 to Level of All Projectile Skills” if you want to boost the damage of Lightning Spear or “+3 to Level of All Melee Skills” if you absolutely want Wind Serpent’s Fury to destroy anything.

In our experience, having the projectile skills modifier is better as Wind Serpent’s Fury already deals a boatload of damage. However, do not let us stop you if you want to achieve astronomical damage numbers with the said skill!

As a final note on amulets, instill the “Stormcharged” notable passive skill to gain a boost in elemental damage and critical hit chance. This particular passive skill requires Distilled Fear, Distilled Fear, and Distilled Envy, which should be pretty affordable.

Ring

Aside from the weapon, the choice of rings that you will wear can have a profound impact on your overall damage output. That is why we highly recommend a couple of Breach Rings that have triple damage mods on the prefixes. The suffixes can be anything that you want, such as STR, DEX, INT, fire/cold/lightning resistance, chaos resistance, or item rarity.

Make sure that you use some Reaver Catalysts on the Breach Rings to further improve the damage modifiers on them.

Belt

In the endgame, you have a couple of unique items to choose from that will further enhance the damage of the Wind Serpent’s Fury Deadeye in the Rise of the Abyssals League. If you do not have enough PoE 2 Currency yet, you can settle for any three-charm belt that has STR, life, and resistances.

Anyway, the first unique belt that we recommend is the Headhunter. The Headhunter lets you steal all of the modifiers of a rare monster after killing them. If you want to ensure that you’ll hit like a truck when fighting map bosses, kill rare monsters only when you are ready to begin the encounter.

Since the Breach Rings provide a ton of value due to their attack modifiers, you can capitalize on that by wearing the Ingenuity belt.

No matter which unique belt you choose, just make sure that they have three charm slots.

Charms

The Thawing Charm and Stone Charm are non-negotiable because they make you immune to freezing and stun, respectively.

The last charm slot can be a rare Golden Charm for increased item rarity or a unique charm called The Fall of the Axe. When you are affected by a slow effect like Temporal Chains or Maim, The Fall of the Axe activates and grants Onslaught for several seconds. Combined with the Tailwind buff from the Gathering Winds ascendancy node, you will breeze through the map quite often with the said unique charm!

Jewels

A Time-Lost Sapphire that has a critical hit chance and critical damage bonus gives a huge boost in damage if you can buy one. If you already have this kind of jewel in your possession, insert it into the jewel socket near “Escape Velocity” near your starting point on the passive tree.

Do you want to improve the damage of your primary skills even further? If so, grab a Prism of Belief that has “+3 to Level of All Wind Serpent’s Fury Skills.” Take note that this unique jewel is quite expensive right now. Fortunately for you, you can buy PoE 2 Divine Orbs from us so that you will have enough PoE 2 Currency to get a Prism of Belief right from the trade website!

If you still have empty jewel sockets, buy an Emerald or Sapphire that has any four of the following modifiers:

  • Increased Critical Hit Chance
  • Increased Critical Hit Chance for Attacks
  • Increased Critical Damage Bonus for Attack Damage
  • Increased Critical Damage Bonus with Spears
  • Increased Critical Damage Bonus
  • Increased Damage with Spears
  • Increased Elemental Damage
  • Increased Attack Damage
  • Increased Maximum Energy Shield
  • Gain Additional Threshold Equal to % of Maximum Energy Shield

Passive Skill Tree

While Frenzy Charges are essential to the build, do not allocate any of the Frenzy Charge nodes on the passive tree until you are able to get Avidity. In the meantime, prioritize improving your critical hit chance and critical damage bonus by going straight for Cooked, Heartstopping, Stuck Through, and Heartbreaking.

After taking the crit nodes, head down and take the spear nodes (except for that last tiny passive node on the upper right). When you get your 2nd Ascendancy, start taking the Frenzy Charge nodes, such as Frenetic, Savagery, and Fervour. Take Frenetic first so that you’ll have a 35% chance to gain the maximum number of Frenzy Charges with the Sniper’s Mark plus Spear Stab combo.

When that’s done, go straight up until you get the last remaining cluster of crit nodes. If you have a considerable amount of energy shield already, you have the option of taking Eternal Youth to make your Life Flask recover energy shield instead.

Take note that you only get the energy shield nodes if you already have some EV/ES-based gear equipped.

Tips and Strategies [Patch 0.3.0]

Activate Trinity for More Damage

Cast on Critical provides a huge quality of life because it automatically casts Sniper’s Mark for you, alleviating the need for manual casting. However, if you care about dealing the most damage possible, there is a tech you could use instead. That tech is none other than Trinity, of course!

Trinity works a bit differently in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict compared to the original game. In PoE 1, you simply deal at least two different elemental damage types to gain all three types of Resonance. In the sequel, however, you can only sustain one type of Resonance, which is based on your highest elemental damage type.

Be that as it may, the damage boost provided by Trinity is enough to warrant its use over CoC. If you are using the Sacred Flame and do not know how to get more Spirit, you can check out our PoE 2 Spirit Guide for more tips.

Utilize the Slots on Spear Throw

When you equip a spear in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict, you will immediately gain access to Spear Stab (default melee attack) and Spear Throw (default projectile attack). While you only need the former to get the maximum number of Frenzy Charges, you can actually utilize Spear Throw as well, albeit for a different purpose.

Basically, you can insert any extra support gem into Spear Throw so that you can swap them freely with any of your skills. For instance, if you don’t need Deliberation on Lightning Spear because you’ve deactivated the Rhoa Mount, you could replace it with Lightning Penetration or something else that the said skill can benefit from. You could put that support gem into Spear Throw and just swap accordingly when the time arises.

Wear Call of the Brotherhood

If you find this build to be too squishy during the campaign, then that probably means that you’re not properly geared just yet. To help you with leveling, we suggest that you wear Call of the Brotherhood in one of your ring slots.

Call of the Brotherhood is a unique ring in PoE 2 that essentially converts all of your lightning damage to cold damage, thus enabling you to freeze enemies with Lightning Spear.

Of course, when you have all of the items highlighted in this PoE 2 build guide, you will have no use of Call of the Brotherhood anymore since you have more than enough power to destroy anything you come across.

Try Kitoko’s Current

Another amazing leveling unique item you could utilize in the campaign is Kitoko’s Current. This can be equipped as early as level 26!

In case you do not know what its capabilities are, Kitoko’s Current allows you to electrocute enemies with lightning damage. This is a great way to gain Frenzy Charges even without Sniper’s Mark and Spear Stab.

The only reason that you’ll ultimately ditch Kitoko’s Current in favor of some rare gloves, later on, is that the latter gives more damage and resistance mods compared to the said unique item.

Secure Frenzy Charges Before Starting a Boss Fight

When you are properly geared, you can effectively eliminate map bosses with just one cast of Wind Serpent’s Fury! In order to do that, you must have all of your Frenzy Charges prior to the encounter.

You can either let Herald of Thunder do its thing or use the same Sniper’s Mark+Spear Stab Combo to generate the Frenzy Charges. Regardless of the method, you can one-shot map bosses with Wind Serpent’s Fury, especially if you have the proper setup!

Wind Serpent’s Fury Deadeye

PoE 2 Wind Serpent's Fury Deadeye in Patch 0.3.0: Final Thoughts

The Wind Serpent’s Fury Deadeye has dethroned the Lightning Spear Amazon as the best build in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict. We were not joking when we said that this build hits hard, so much so that it can demolish even the pinnacle bosses in the game!

This build utilizes Frenzy Charges unlike any other build in PoE 2 Rise of the Abyssals League. When you unleash the serpents with the maximum number of Frenzy Charges, your damage is multiplied exponentially, resulting in enemies dying in just a single cast!

Due to the popularity of this build, the items that you need for it have gone up in price. Not to worry, we are here to help you with all of your gearing needs! If you need to get your hands on the Headhunter or a well-rolled Sacred Flame, go to our PoE 2 Unique Items Shop at any time!

So, what can you say about the Wind Serpent’s Fury Deadeye? Do you think it’s one of the best builds in the game right now? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
