Do you want to destroy enemies in Wraeclast with the deadliest bow and ranged builds in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict? Fighting from a distance not only gives you the tactical advantage but you also get to finish content faster as a result of not having to engage in melee range.

So, if you are looking only for the top bow and ranged builds in PoE 2 Patch 0.3.0, then the search is over! We will go over six projectile builds that allow you to enjoy whatever Wraeclast has to offer!

Before we begin, we’d like to invite you to our PoE 2 Store. We have served hardcore gamers and beginners for over 20 years, so our experience in this field is unparalleled. We offer exclusive discounts as well!

Best Bow and Ranged Builds in PoE 2

We all know that you want those high damage numbers. We are proud and happy to say that the builds that will be featured in this article are all capable of that. They can output exceptional ranged damage, preventing enemies from ever getting near.

If you prefer a more elemental / high-mobility Deadeye, the PoE 2 Wind Serpent’s Fury Deadeye Build Guide offers another strong variation that excels in map clearing speed with projectiles.

There are also some picks that are known for good mobility and kiting power. Things like riding a mount to prevent any movement speed penalties, and teleporting a short distance via Blink, can be employed depending on the bow or ranged build you want to play.

Another quality that a good projectile build in PoE 2 should have is incredible skill synergy. To make the most of that synergy, knowing which passive nodes to prioritize is essential — the Best Notable Passive Skills in Path of Exile 2 Early Access guide highlights the standout nodes (like Acrobatics, Faster Projectiles, or Evasion) that amplify ranged build power significantly. The choice of skills that a build utilizes should be able to deal significant amounts of damage, so much so that endgame content is doable even with just modest gear.

With that out of the way, we will now present the 6 best bow and ranged builds in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict!

6. Galvanic Shards Deadeye

The Deadeye is the go-to ascendancy class for all things projectile-related in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict. That is why you are going to see a few builds here that rely on the said ascendancy class for efficiency and damage output.

Having said that, the Galvanic Shards Deadeye Build Guide is an awesome PoE 2 ranged build that combines the traditional bow and arrow with a modern feel via the crossbow. This build relies on Galvanic Shards to clear map monsters, Stormcaller Arrow to inflict Shock on enemies, and Shockburst Rounds to delete bosses from the face of Wraeclast.

The Deadeye version of this build deals a lot of damage relative to gear investment compared to the Witch Hunter. That is because of Far Shot, which effectively boosts the damage of Shockburst Rounds when it is fired from a relatively long distance from the enemy. You couple that with the increased skill speed provided by Tailwind (from Gathering Winds), and you have a build that can breeze through maps quite easily!

Now, Galvanic Shards won’t be available until level 14. Therefore, this build is often played with Lightning Arrow as a leveling skill. Once you reach level 14, you can put Galvanic Shards by using a Tier V Uncut Skill Gem.

Shockburst Rounds, which is another core skill of the Galvanic Shards Deadeye, is not unlocked until level 41. If you don’t want to wait that long but still want to have the same feel for the skill, then you can opt for Rapid Shot for the time being.

How does the Stormcaller Arrow factor into this? Well, Shockburst Rounds can only put a dent in the enemy’s HP if it is inflicted by Shock. Stormcaller Arrow just happens to inflict Shock more consistently than Galvanic Shards, making its inclusion in the build mandatory for success.

If this is your first time playing Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict, the Galvanic Shards Deadeye is easy to put up. You just need a good crossbow that has a ton of physical damage and increased elemental damage with attacks. Later on, invest in a Desolate Crossbow with + to level of projectile skills along with other goodies.

You can achieve high damage numbers with mostly rare pieces of gear. If you want to take things a step further, getting Breach Rings that have flat physical and lightning damage, as well as a well-rolled Ingenuity belt are suitable upgrades.

The Galvanic Shards Deadeye has a fun playstyle that suits those who like the feeling of being a feared commando on the battlefield.

5. Lightning Arrow Deadeye

Here we have another PoE 2 Deadeye build that will surely give you an electrifying experience! The Lightning Arrow Deadeye Build Guide has been around since the launch of Path of Exile 2 Early Access, but it is now better and more refined than ever before!

Take note that the only viable way to establish this PoE 2 build is to raise its critical hit chance to at least 45 to 50%. That is because landing more critical hits is the best way to obliterate pinnacle bosses, especially at Tier 4!

While the pairing of Lightning Arrow and Lightning Rod has been around since the early days of PoE 2, it is much more pronounced now after what GGG has done in Patch 0.3.0. More specifically, the lightning pulses from Lightning Rod activate instantly when you fire Lightning Arrow directly at the rods (instead of having to charge up).

For that reason, you want to put as many Lightning Rods to the ground as possible. To do that, you will click on Barrage before unleashing the Lightning Rod skill. Once you have 20 rods on the ground, fire Lightning Arrow to deal huge amounts of damage in the process.

You seriously need a good Gemini Bow in the endgame, particularly one that has critical hit chance, critical damage, and increased attack speed. If you can afford a mirror-tier Gemini Bow that has “Bow Attacks Fire 2 Additional Arrows” instead of attack speed, then that is even better!

Because Lightning Arrow and Lightning Rod can benefit from having multiple projectiles fired at once, the Deadeye’s “Endless Munitions” ascendancy node works perfectly for this build. You’d still want to go for Gathering Winds the first time you complete the Trial of Ascendancy, but Endless Munitions is an obvious third choice for sure!

You need the Visceral Quiver for this one since it enables you to achieve more than 45% crit chance, all things considered. Primed Arrow Quiver is only meant for those who have low attack speeds, but Visceral Quiver is just better overall.

While this build works admirably well even with rare pieces of gear, there are some unique items you can purchase in the future. For starters, the Death Rush ring grants Onslaught, which works in tandem with Tailwind to provide you with even more skill speed (for faster Lightning Rod attack speed).

In the endgame, however, you should look into getting Leopold’s Applause. With these gloves on, you could actually reduce the lightning resistance of enemies beyond zero (up to a maximum of -50). That translates to even more damage from your primary skills!

In addition, you have the option of riding the Rhoa if you want to. Mounting the Rhoa enables you to unleash your skills without slowing down. Keep in mind that taking damage while mounted will increase the stun meter. When this meter is filled to the brim, you get stunned and will be unable to do anything for a couple of seconds, which means impending death.

Fortunately, we are going to let you in on a little secret. When your stun meter is filled halfway, you can actually just unmount and ride the Rhoa again immediately after. Doing this will reset the meter, allowing you to map comfortably.

We don’t know if that trick is a bug or not, but if it is, there’s an alternative to dealing with stuns while mounted on the Rhoa. In the event that you get stunned, you can simply press Esc and choose “Exit to Character Selection Screen.” When you hop back into the game, your character will still be alive but without getting stunned at all.

Anyway, there is a reason why the Lightning Arrow Deadeye is one of the best bow builds in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict. It is very accessible when it comes to playstyle and it certainly is fun, especially for those who want to kill monsters a la Legolas from Lord of the Rings!

4. Essence Drain Contagion Lich

Do you want to unleash chaos upon your foes in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict? There is an awesome projectile build that you surely need to try out! And no, it does not involve a bow and arrow, but rather a wand and caster focus!

The Essence Drain Contagion Lich is not only one of the best ranged builds in PoE 2, but it is always a consistent frontrunner when it comes to starter builds as well. This build is also known as the Chaos DoT Lich for its ability to spread heavy chaos damage across all enemies on the screen!

There are three skills that you have to know about if you intend to play the Chaos DoT Lich in PoE 2 Patch 0.3.0. For one, there is Essence Drain—a projectile skill that deals damage in two parts. The first one is from the initial projectile, and the second is the debuff that makes enemies suffer with heavy chaos damage.

Contagion is another core part of this build, though its use is mainly seen while mapping. Basically, what Contagion does is it, too, affects enemies with chaos damage over time. However, the difference between this one and Essence Drain is that Contagion spreads all damage over time effects from one monster to another. You can literally see enemies get destroyed with a single cast of Essence Drain and Contagion—they are that powerful!

And then, there is Dark Effigy. This allows you to summon a totem that can fire multiple projectiles at hostiles, albeit it only works if the target is affected by chaos damage over time. Fortunately, that part is already covered, ain’t it?

Most people who are already well-versed in Path of Exile 2 will take Eldritch Empowerment as the first ascendancy node. However, if you are a complete beginner, we suggest that you go for Soulless Form first, then followed by Eternal Life. Both of these nodes should help you get acquainted with the Essence Drain Contagion Lich without getting hampered by low energy shield (ES) or mana.

Eldritch Empowerment is a great ascendancy node to take for improving damage. The damage boost you get from it is just too hard to pass up, though you have to have considerable amounts of ES and ES recharge before allocating it. Otherwise, you will not be able to cast spells when you do not have energy shield.

Speaking of energy shield, Atziri’s Disdain is the only unique item you should think of getting first. This unique helmet grants a huge increase in energy shield based on your maximum life.

Other upgrades you can get later down the line include Breach Rings that have increased cast speed and elemental resistance. Ingenuity is often a good belt to pair with the aforementioned rings, so you might want to consider buying one as well.

If you want to create this build as your first character, then be sure to read our PoE 2 Essence Drain Contagion Lich guide for all the information you need!

3. Spark Blood Mage

This is one of the most fun ranged builds you can try out in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict! The Spark Blood Mage has steadily gained an increase in popularity due to its power and flexibility, especially in terms of what variant you want to use.

Most people would play the Spark Blood Mage with a high critical hit chance and damage wand in the main hand and the Sacred Flame in the off-hand. The extra fire damage, extra fire resistance, and increased Spirit provided by Sacred Flame just make things a whole lot better for this build!

If you do not have a budget for a well-rolled Sacred Flame just yet, you could opt for an Omen Sceptre with a high-level Malice skill. Malice applies multiple stacks of Critical Weakness on the enemy, thereby increasing your critical hit chance against them.

As alluded to earlier, there are multiple versions of the Spark Blood Mage. However, the most common one has four different Cast on Critical setups. Don’t worry, you only activate two of them at a time depending on what you are trying to do.

The reason why there are several Cast on Critical gems on the skill window is that they have different setups. One setup can contain up to three Spark skills (yes, three) and support gems like Energy Retention and Impetus. The other Cast on Critical gem can have three different Arc skills and then followed by Deliberation and Lightning Mastery.

For bossing, you activate the other two CoC setups. The first one has two Spark skills and one Arc skill, while the other has five Arc skills. When these spells are triggered, you will see the HP of the pinnacle boss get depleted in a very short amount of time!

Of course, the skill that is responsible for setting all of those things in motion is Spark. With the Blood Mage’s high critical hit chance and critical damage bonus, the projectiles that the Spark skill creates will have no problem dealing with any monster in the game.

Additionally, bombarding the screen with multiple Spark projectiles allows you to easily sustain health thanks to the Vitality Siphon ascendancy node. Of course, that is always paired with Atziri’s Acuity to make the life leech instant.

In terms of gear, there are two things that you have to obtain first—Choir of the Storm and Atziri’s Acuity. You already know what Atziri’s Acuity does, so let’s focus on Choir of the Storm instead.

Choir of the Storm grants the Lightning Bolt skill when equipped. Every time you land critical hits (which becomes 100% when you reach the endgame), bolts of lightning will be triggered automatically.

As if that is not convincing enough, Choir of the Storm also makes critical hits ignore lightning resistance. Since all your damaging skills are lightning-based, you will always take full advantage of this unique amulet!

When you purchase the Choir of the Storm, make sure that it grants a level 19 Lightning Bolt skill on a critical hit. The higher the level of the said skill, the more devastating it is, so do keep that in mind.

Ranged builds in PoE 2 are typically not known for their survivability. However, the Spark Blood Mage can be considered an outlier because as long as you keep on putting pressure on your enemies, you will not run out of HP at all!

So, if you like the idea of a ranged spellcaster who cannot die, then set your eyes on the Spark Blood Mage!

2. Glacial Lance Deadeye

If you are heading into Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict with the intention of eliminating all of the pinnacle bosses without much effort, then the Glacial Lance Deadeye can help you with that. This build is capable of eliminating bosses at Tier 4 difficulty, provided that you are willing to invest in its endgame items.

Contrary to what the Deadeye ascendancy class is known for, this build actually utilizes a spear, which is a relatively new weapon type introduced in the PoE 2 The Third Edict League. The reason for this is that Glacial Lance is only accessible when wielding a spear.

That said, the Deadeye’s ability to gain Frenzy Charges easily (Avidity) and count as having consumed twice the charges (Thrilling Chase) when using a skill makes it the preferred ascendancy class for this build.

Yes, Glacial Lance consumes Frenzy Charges so that the trail of ice will explode shortly after the main projectile is unleashed. This explosion deals extra damage, which becomes more devastating when you have the best items equipped.

Speaking of which, there are three awesome items that you can grab that will make the Glacial Lance Deadeye shine. The first one is the Tangletongue— a spear that allows you to deal three times the damage through its “fork” mechanic.

Basically, every time you use Glacial Lance with the Tangletongue in your hand, the projectile that is thrown will have its critical hit chance roll twice. If the rolls result in a success, not only is that projectile a guaranteed critical hit but also deals triple the damage to the unfortunate recipient.

If only one of the rolls succeeds, the projectile is still a critical hit, albeit it only deals two times the damage. That is still a fair compromise considering that the Deadeye cannot achieve a 100% crit chance compared to the Amazon ascendancy class in PoE 2.

Aside from the Tangletongue, the build can get great benefits from using the Hand of Wisdom and Action. The added lightning damage and attack speed provided by HoWA work really well here, especially when you have Trinity enabled.

Once you have the two unique items equipped, the rest of your gear can consist of rare items only. However, if you really want to get the most out of the build’s capabilities, then you should invest in a Sacred Flame, particularly one that gives 60% extra fire damage.

Now, you may find the slower attack speed of Glacial Lance to be detrimental to your mapping experience. If that is the case, you could employ the help of Lightning Spear only for the purpose of eliminating monsters faster.

However, make no mistake. The Glacial Lance Deadeye is an amazing boss killer—one that is truly deserving of the steep investment cost of its upgrades.

1. Lightning Spear Amazon

If you look at the projectile builds over at PoE 2 Ninja, you will find that the Lightning Spear Amazon is being enjoyed by the vast majority of players. Well, it is not hard to see why. This build just rocks in every aspect!

Lightning Spear is one of the best skills in the game, primarily for its ability to clear map monsters with just one or two taps. What’s more, the Lightning Spear Amazon has incredible flexibility when it comes to the other skills it could use.

For a true projectile build, you could add the Storm Lance to easily inflict Shock on the enemy, thus allowing you to hit harder than usual. If you want to go for the melee-projectile hybrid approach, you could utilize Primal Strikes to decimate anything and everything that tries to halt your advance.

You can even ride the Rhoa Mount if you want a seamless mapping experience. Just remember that you cannot use Primal Strikes while mounted, though you can easily get off the Rhoa by performing a Dodge Roll.

In terms of gear, the Lightning Spear Amazon can enjoy a good level of flexibility as well. For the main weapon, you can use the Tangletongue early on to deal huge amounts of damage. In the endgame, we suggest investing in a well-rolled Seaglass Spear that has increased attack speed and critical damage bonus.

Because of the Lightning Spear’s ability to hit almost every monster on the screen with each use, the Beacon of Azis just makes things a whole lot better. This amulet has almost the same effect as the Choir of the Storm mentioned earlier, albeit critical hits ignore all of the monster's elemental resistances (instead of just lightning resistance).

For survivability, you can use pieces of gear that have evasion as the main layer of defense. However, you could go for a hybrid evasion/energy shield in the future. If you are going this route, you can wear the Essentia Sanguis to convert life leech to energy shield leech.

If you are going to use Essentia Sanguis, make sure that you have the “Leech % of Physical Attack Damage as Life” mod on at least one of your rings. It should also go without saying that the Mystic Harvest ascendancy node is allocated so that Lightning Spear can leech energy shield on hit.

With all of that said, the Lightning Spear Amazon’s flexibility, power, and ease of use are the main qualities that make this one of the best ranged builds in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict!

Best Bow and Ranged Builds in PoE 2 [0.3.0]—Which Should You Play?

The six projectile builds featured in this article are actually awesome. You can never go wrong with any of them. It’s just a matter of which playstyle you like the most.

If you like to play a commando who is able to wield a crossbow and the traditional bow and arrow really well, then the Galvanic Shards Deadeye might be something that you will find interesting.

For the more conventional approach, there is the Lightning Arrow Deadeye. By investing in critical hit chance and critical damage, this build can wipe out entire screens filled with monsters really quickly.

The same can be said for the Essence Drain Contagion Lich. However, the best way to play this build is to fire the projectile once and search for other packs of monsters. The powerful damage over time effects of both Essence Drain and Contagion should be enough to eliminate most monsters you encounter while mapping.

How about the Spark Blood Mage? Well, this build is ideal for those who love spellcasters. This build can conjure multiple projectiles that deal devastating damage to enemies that are hit.

The Glacial Deadeye is almost similar to the Spark Blood Mage, albeit with the help of a spear and some Frenzy Charges too. While not as efficient in clearing maps, the Glacial Deadeye makes up for it by deleting pinnacle bosses in just a few hits!

And then, there’s the people’s choice—the Lightning Spear Amazon! Whether you want to destroy enemies from a distance or go head-to-head in battle, this build has got you covered on all fronts!
