PoE 2 The Last of the Druids - Best New Notable Passive Skills

One thing that many people might know about Path of Exile 2 is its very extensive and quite daunting passive tree. When it launched into Early Access last year, the game had only 1,500 passive skills in total. However, this number has ballooned to close to 2,000 in The Last of the Druids expansion. Needless to say, a complete beginner will have a hard time understanding them.

Well, do not worry. While the PoE 2 passive tree can be quite complicated at first glance, it is actually a lot more bearable to learn than you think. For instance, you can significantly narrow down the passive nodes you are going to take, depending on the build you’re going to play.

Anyway, the scope of this article is all about the best new notable passive skills that have been added in Patch 0.4.0. If you want to learn which one you should consider taking in your next build, then I highly recommend that you read this guide to completion!

Of course, notable passive skills are just one way to improve your build in Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids. To truly unlock your build’s potential, you must outfit it with the Best PoE 2 items, which we happen to offer in our store!

Best New Notable Passive Skills in PoE 2: The Last of the Druids

For those who are new to this game, notable passive skills are nodes on the passive tree that are denoted by those medium-sized circles. They are more prominent than the “travel” or “minor” nodes that lead to them, so you should be able to tell them apart.

In addition, the ones that I am going to highlight in this article are not laid out in order because they have varying uses depending on the build you are playing.

That said, there are so many notable passives that have been added in Patch 0.4.0, so without further ado, let’s begin!

Alchemical Oil

Alchemical Oil notable passive skill in Path of Exile 2

Exposure is a type of debuff in PoE 2 that reduces the affected enemy’s resistance to elemental damage types, including fire, cold, and lightning. Since the Druid’s animal forms all deal elemental damage, you might find it in your best interest to allocate Alchemical Oil.

Alchemical Oil is a new notable passive skill that increases the effect of the Exposure debuff on enemies. This effectively raises the percentage value from 20% to 26%. While this may seem like a marginal increase, that is actually pretty good, especially when you factor in elemental penetration (through other passive skills).

Among the Hordes

Among the Hordes notable passive skill in Path of Exile 2

GGG has done a relatively good job of improving the minion AI. However, minions in PoE 2 still suffer from movement issues, so increasing their movement speed is one way to address that.

Among the Hordes provides a substantial 10% increase in movement speed for all your minions and companions, so allocating it is a must if you’re playing a minion build.

If you are playing the Wolf Druid and you constantly use Pounce to create Wolf Minions to do your bidding, Among the Hordes should be one of the nodes that you take.

Anticipation

Anticipation notable passive skill in Path of Exile 2

There is a support gem in Path of Exile 2 called “Unleash” that lets supported skills recur based on the number of seals on your next cast. This can only be used on skills that have a relatively long cast time because the ability to gain seals is contingent upon that.

Anticipation is a new notable passive skill that increases the frequency with which you can gain those seals. While Unleash Support is good enough for this, Anticipation works best when you use the new lineage support gem, Zarokh’s Revolt. You can learn more about that gem in our dedicated guide.

Anyway, the reason why the said lineage support gem is better than Unleash is that the latter can only have a maximum of two seals, which means that the supported spell can only recur twice. With Zarokh’s Revolt, you can gain up to five seals, so Anticipation will ensure that you’ll have an easier time achieving that.

Blood of the Wolf

Blood of the Wolf notable passive skill in Path of Exile 2

The Werewolf Form of the Druid is an offensive powerhouse. The only problem is that it can be quite squishy, especially early on when you are not properly geared yet. That is where Blood of the Wolf comes in.

Blood of the Wolf not only increases your passive life regeneration rate while you’re in Werewolf Form, but it also increases the amount of life leeched with your attacks.

You might want to buy Couture of Crimson so that the life you have leeched off of your enemies can “overflow,” which results in a considerable increase in your maximum life for a short period of time.

Dimensional Weakspot

Dimensional Weakspot notable passive skill in Path of Exile 2

Dimensional Weakspot is like a free Rakiata’s Flow, wherein you have a 15% chance of inverting the enemy’s elemental resistance. This is quite helpful in tackling endgame content because monsters that have high elemental resistance values are quite common in red maps and in the Vaal Ruins.

Disciplined Training

Disciplined Training in PoE 2

If you are playing a Monk Build in Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids, you should consider getting Disciplined Training.

Disciplined Training makes Tempest Bell and Mantra of Destruction last a bit longer. Furthermore, the combo points you get when striking enemies won’t decay after two seconds of not attacking, so you’ll have more than enough time to save up those points for the next huge monster pack.

Grit

Grit passive skill in PoE 2

The Bear and Werewolf Forms use Endurance Charges to either extend the duration of their skills or make their abilities bypass their long cooldowns. By default, you can only have a maximum of three Endurance Charges, unless you allocate notable passive skills like Grit.

Grit is a pretty good notable passive skill in Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids because it not only increases your maximum Endurance Charge by one (for a total of four), but it also gives you a small chance of gaining two Endurance Charges (instead of one).

Grit’s effect activates more often when you have a lot of attack speed, so you should have items that modify attack speed somehow, like the Deathblow Gloves, for example.

Guttural Roar

Guttural Roar passive skill in PoE 2

Do you frequently use Ferocious Roar or Arctic Howl? If so, Guttural Roar is a must-have! This notable passive skill makes warcries less clunky to use due to the increased warcry speed.

But more importantly, Guttural Roar debilitates enemies that are within the warcry skill’s area of effect. Those who are affected by “Debilitate” have their movement speed reduced by 20% while also dealing 10% reduced damage to you.

Heart Tissue

Heart Tissue passive skill in PoE 2

As you progress through Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids, you will encounter tougher enemies later on. If you want to increase your survivability, don’t forget to allocate Heart Tissue.

Heart Tissue is another new notable passive skill in Patch 0.4.0 that allows you to recoup a portion of your life when you take damage. Although that value is only 8% of your maximum life, you have to keep in mind that this effect always occurs, which means that there is no condition that has to be met (other than taking damage, of course).

When you have Heart Tissue, don’t forget to use Blood of the Warrior for up to 30% additional life recoup.

Insulating Hide

Insulating Hide passive skill in PoE 2

While it is easy to think that the Bear Form is quite tanky, that might not be the case early on. This is because if you are still below level 50, your armor and energy shield values are not enough to keep you alive (at least, not yet). To help you survive during the early parts of the campaign, you must allocate Insulating Hide.

Insulating Hide is quite awesome because it makes your armor mitigate incoming elemental damage when you are in Bear, Werewolf, or Wyvern Forms. In the endgame, you can even take things a step further by allocating “Devoted Protector” and “Prism Guard.”

Lone Warrior

Lone Warrior passive skill in PoE 2

If you are a predominantly solo player or you love playing in PoE 2 SSF, then Lone Warrior might be something worth considering. Lone Warrior is a notable passive skill in The Last of the Druids expansion that increases the effects of aura skills by 14%.

Take note that Lone Warrior only works on the following auras:

  • Discipline
  • Purity of Fire
  • Purity of Ice
  • Purity of Lightning
  • Impurity
  • Blasphemy
  • Malice
  • War Banner
  • Defiance Banner
  • Dread Banner
  • Overwhelming Presence
  • Alchemist’s Boon
  • Withering Presence
  • Heart of Ice
  • Fulmination

If you’re not using any of the auras mentioned above, then you can safely forego Lone Warrior for something else.

Sling Shots

Sling Shots passive skill in PoE 2

Sling Shots is a notable passive skill that complements the Wyvern Form of the Druid. Basically, it provides an increased chance of inflicting ailments like Ignite with projectiles. When you love using the Wyvern Form and Rolling Magma, then taking Sling Shots is a no-brainer.

Now, Sling Shots is not only for the Wyvern Form, though. Technically, any projectile-based build can take advantage of its effects. However, because it is situated on the left side of the passive tree, you might just want to instill it on your amulet by using Liquid Envy, Diluted Liquid Ire, and Concentrated Liquid Suffering.

Sudden Infuriation

Sudden Infuriation notable passive skill in PoE 2

Warriors naturally have very slow attack speeds, particularly when you equip two-handed weapons. As a result of this, the Titan, Warbringer, and Smith of Kitava have a hard time generating enough Rage to make their attacks deal tremendous amounts of damage. To help address that, there’s Sudden Infuriation.

When allocated, Sudden Infuriation allows you to gain up to your maximum Rage when you hit enemies with your attacks. This is definitely a must-have for any Warrior build, though Druids can go towards the lower-left portion of the passive tree to allocate it as well.

Voracious

Voracious notable passive skill in PoE 2

Voracious has a very simple effect: It calculates 20% of the life you have leeched off of your enemies and applies that instantly. To understand why this is a big deal, you must first know how the life leech mechanic in PoE 2 works.

Life leech normally recovers your life over several seconds. In a fast-paced ARPG like Path of Exile 2, that may feel like an eternity. Voracious ensures that you get a considerable portion of your life back immediately, with the rest of the “leeched” life doled out over five seconds.

Warriors have a much easier time than Druids to get to Voracious since the skill is situated at the lower-left side of the passive tree. However, Druids can also go down the tree to take Voracious to improve survivability, which is worth considering.

Best Notable Passive Skills from The Unseen Path

In case you don’t know, the Druid’s Oracle ascendancy class has a node that lets it see a special set of notable passive skills. These nodes are exclusive to the Oracle, so other ascendancies don’t have access to them.

If you are playing the Oracle in the Fate of the Vaal League, then here are some notable passive skills worth taking:

Meditative Focus

Do you use Flame Breath often? While you’re in flight, you become susceptible to enemy attacks since you move slowly when spewing flames upon foes. Meditative Focus helps you survive while using Flame Breath by significantly increasing your stun threshold while channeling.

The best feature of Meditative Focus is that it allows you to recoup 30% of your life while using channeling skills like Flame Breath or Rampage. This is more than what Heart Tissue offers, though Meditative Focus has a certain requirement that must be met.

Limitless Pursuit

Notable passive skills on the tree that increase movement speed are rare. This is even more so since Limitless Pursuit is only accessible by the Oracle ascendancy class.

Limitless Pursuit boosts your movement speed by 4%. If that is not enough, it also increases cooldown recovery rate. If you’re using skills with long cooldowns, such as Lunar Blessing or Forge Hammer, then Limitless Pursuit is worth taking.

Rustle of the Leaves

Spell totems are a key feature in Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids, and they can be very powerful. The main drawback is that totems take several seconds to place. Rustle of the Leaves solves this by increasing your totem placement speed by 40%.

Additionally, this notable passive skill boosts spell cast speed by 6%. While that may seem modest, the improved totem placement speed alone makes Rustle of the Leaves worth allocating in Patch 0.4.0.

Power of the Storm

The Cast on Critical meta gem is popular among Oracle players in PoE 2. Taking Power of the Storm is essentially mandatory if you plan to use Cast on Critical in your build.

Typically, you socket Thunderstorm into Cast on Critical so that it triggers when you land enough critical hits on enemies. The 50% damage boost from Power of the Storm is significant, so make sure to allocate it if you are using any "trigger" mechanics, including Cast on Critical or Cast While Channeling.

Powerful Casting

This notable passive skill benefits STR-stackers the most, as it increases spell damage for every 10 points of STR you have.

Powerful Casting works best when paired with mirror-tier Breach Rings and other items that exponentially increase STR.

Cower Before the First Ones

GGG rarely provides powerful passive skills without drawbacks, but Cower Before the First Ones is an exception. It grants 30% increased damage to all damage types, including fire, cold, lightning, chaos, and physical damage.

For any Oracle build in PoE 2, including Cower Before the First Ones is highly recommended. Simply take "The Unseen Path" to access this skill easily!

Best New Notable Passive Skills in Patch 0.4.0: Conclusion

Patch 0.4.0 in Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids introduces a variety of new notable passive skills, many designed to enhance the new Druid class.

Standout skills include Dimensional Weakspot, Insulating Hide, and Sudden Infuriation. For players using the Oracle ascendancy class, additional notable passive skills become accessible. Regardless of which nodes you choose, be sure to allocate points into "Cower Before the First Ones" for a free damage boost.
