WoW The War Within Festive Feast of Winter Veil 2025: What To Expect

Game Guides , World Of Warcraft

WoW players are mostly excited for the Christmas season because that means there are lots of events to look forward to.
For the Holidays, we can expect the WoW The War Within Festive Feast of Winter Veil 2025 to be announced soon. Going by past events, the Christmas event will start from the second week of December to the first week of January. There are other things that we know about the upcoming event as well.
Before you go, make sure to visit RPG Stash. We've got WoW The War Within gold for sale so you don't have to grind way too hard for the next season. Now, on to our expectations for the next season.
Abominable Greench Teleport
Let's start by looking at how Blizzard could update the Abominable Greench encounter if they follow the pattern from previous years. While the boss itself may remain mostly the same, Blizzard might introduce new quality-of-life features.
One likely update would be a direct teleport system. Last year, players could reach the boss by speaking to an Express Transportation NPC near Greatfather Winter in Orgrimmar or Ironforge instead of manually flying to Hillsbrad Foothills.
If Blizzard repeats this, we might see new teleport NPCs positioned near the main Winter Veil hubs again.
In the past, Horde players could find the NPC around coordinates 50, 79 in Orgrimmar, while Alliance players used one around 32, 72 in Ironforge.
After a short sleigh-ride cutscene, players were dropped right into the boss area, making the entire experience much faster. If Blizzard brings back this system, it will likely function the same way this year.
Before using the teleport, players would still need to visit the Smokywood Pastures NPC in their faction's Winter Veil city to pick up the quest “You're a Mean One.”
Completing this quest simply required looting the Stolen Treats at the end of the encounter and freeing the captured reindeer, which then rewarded a Stolen Present. If Blizzard follows the same quest structure, we can expect this loop to remain unchanged.
New Abominable Greench Mechanic
Last year also introduced a new mechanic during the fight. Throughout the encounter, the Greench periodically threw out gift boxes that players could interact with. These spawned temporary toys that helped with combat.
The mechanic was subtle, since the boss typically died in under half a minute due to heavy player participation, but it added a fun holiday twist.
If Blizzard builds on this idea for the War Within version, we might see enhanced toys with visual effects or small buffs. Regardless, the basic routine would be the same.
After defeating the Greench, players would loot the Stolen Treats, free the reindeer, and return to their quest giver. The quest has historically been completable once per day per character, offering daily chances at limited cosmetics. Blizzard is likely to keep this cadence so players have a reason to check in each day.
New Stolen Present Rewards
The Stolen Present has always been packed with random rewards of varying rarity. Last year's rewards included several unique battle pets, such as Grunch, a miniature version of the boss, and the Portentous Present.
There was also an update that allowed Father Winter's Helper, originally a cosmetic companion, to be used in pet battles.
Another notable item was the Glowing Gift trinket. In the previous version, it dropped as rare quality for most levels and epic quality at level 80. Its item level scaled with the character's level, and its on-use effect boosted all major secondary stats. This made it a great catch-up item for alts.
If Blizzard continues this tradition, we can expect new or returning festive pets, toys, and possibly a new alt-friendly trinket inside this year's presents.
New Festive Holiday Transmog
Another major addition from last year was a full set of Winter Veil transmog items available in both red and green. Each color offered a pants or shorts option, and every slot cost between 15 and 30 gold. Buying the full set cost around 370 gold.
If Blizzard repeats this approach, we might see an updated or expanded version of these sets added this year. Purchasing the pieces would likely still be done through Smokywood Pastures vendors in Orgrimmar and Ironforge.
New Hunter Pet
Last year, Blizzard dropped a surprise tameable tenacity pet, the Dreaming Festive Reindeer and if they follow the same pattern, we could see a similar holiday-themed pet added for 2025.
Just like the Dreaming Festive Reindeer, we might get a unique Winter Veil creature tied to the holiday aesthetic, possibly with festive effects, cosmetics, or even a special glow.
Last year, the tame required players to wear the Winter Veil transmog set, four matching pieces, otherwise the reindeer literally vanished as you approached. If Blizzard repeats this mechanic, expect the new pet to have the same rule.
You'll probably need to equip the full festive outfit before attempting the tame. In 2024, the set was sold by the usual vendors: Penny Copperpinch in Orgrimmar and Wulmort Jinglepocket in Ironforge. If Blizzard keeps tradition, those vendors will likely sell whatever new or returning Winter Veil transmog is needed for the tame this year.
The required pieces last year were the Festive Holiday Coat, Boots, Pants, and Belt. Prices ranged from 15–30 gold each, so if Blizzard keeps it similar, it shouldn't be hard to pick up.
The Dreaming Festive Reindeer was found inside a dungeon, Old Hillsbrad Foothills in Caverns of Time. Blizzard could easily reuse this idea for 2025 and hide the new pet somewhere inside a legacy dungeon, a War Within dungeon, or even a phased holiday scenario.
What made the reindeer easy to spot was its "Dreams" buff and the unique model, fully decked out in Winter Veil harnesses and snowy effects. So if a new pet drops this year, keep an eye out for any creature with a holiday-themed aura, glow, or buff that looks out of place.
Last year's pet had two versions: one with a glowing nose and one without. The spawn was random, and hunters had to reset the instance repeatedly to get the variant they wanted.
If Blizzard repeats this design, we might see a Winter Veil creature with multiple cosmetic variants, possibly different glow colors, harness patterns, or festive particle effects.
Expect to run in and out of an instance again, resetting until the appearance you want finally shows up.
Some hunters got lucky last year and tamed the glowing-nose version instantly, while others ran dozens of resets before finding both variants. It became a little mini grind during Winter Veil, but in a fun, collectible kind of way.
If a similar pet arrives this year, be ready for:
- quick resets
- low-stress farming
- holiday RNG
- and hopefully a cool cosmetic reward at the end
Winter Veil Gift-Giving
One of the most anticipated parts of Winter Veil is opening the presents under Greatfather Winter's tree. These gifts can be opened from December 25 through January 2. There are six total presents, each tied to a small quest that activates when you click the box under the tree. Every character on your account can open these gifts, so you are not restricted to one per account.
Each year adds new special gifts that only appear under the tree for that year. After the event ends, those items usually move into the Stolen Present loot pool, awarded from the Winter Veil daily quest that requires slaying The Greench.
Some gifts have level requirements, while others are available to all characters.
