So, what are the qualities of a cheap build to play in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict? For starters, it should be good even with only a minimal investment. It should not rely on a unique item to perform optimally, damage-wise or with regard to defense.

Additionally, a great PoE 2 budget build should have multiple avenues to scale damage and defense. For instance, if a particular unique item is added, the build should work even better than without the new piece of gear.

Another quality of a good budget build in PoE 2 is that it should be competent enough to help you farm currency. Whether you want to push it to the next level or just use it to gain access to better gear for your other characters, the build must be able to deliver on those fronts.

7. Flicker Strike Amazon

Flicker Strike is one of the most beloved skills in the original game, so if you have played PoE 1 and would like to get back that nostalgic feeling, then this is the right build for you!

The Flicker Strike Amazon is a better build to play than the Invoker. Why? It is quite easy to scale critical hit chance due to the ascendancy nodes available to the Amazon.

Critical Strike greatly enhances your crit, and this is done by prioritizing accuracy. You can get accuracy on multiple pieces of gear, including the weapon, helmet, and gloves, among others.

Speaking of the weapon, it is ideal to use the Sinister Quarterstaff for this build. The reason is that it has the highest base crit on a quarterstaff. If you have played the early days of PoE 2, this weapon was previously known as the Expert Gothic Quarterstaff.

Anyway, you can do away with rare pieces of gear that have accuracy, dexterity, and maximum life. DEX is helpful in improving the damage output of this build because it increases accuracy as well.

In terms of gear upgrades, there are two unique items that provide a ton of value. First, Starkonja's Head grants up to 25% increased critical hit chance, which allows you to hit those higher numbers without much effort.

Second, Starkonja's Head significantly improves your survivability by granting tons of evasion, especially when you are below 35% of your maximum life. Besides that, this unique helmet transfers 15% of the damage you receive from hits to your companion if you happen to have one summoned on the field. To maximize the defensive power of Starkonja's Head, you have the option of allocating the "Stalking Panther" ascendancy node.

Aside from that, you can invest in the Powertread. These boots are incredible because they not only increase your Maximum Power Charges by one, but they also raise your damage with critical hits for every Power Charge that you have. While the Powertread only increases your movement speed by 15%, that is fine since Flicker Strike teleports you from one pack of enemies to another in a jiffy.

Now, Flicker Strike does require some Power Charges to unlock its full capability. What will you do if you do not have the maximum charges yet? Fortunately, you can whack enemies with Ice Strike until you have enough Power Charges to work with.

If there is one notable downside of the Flicker Strike Amazon, it is that the skill itself can be nauseating the first time you use it. However, once you are accustomed to how quickly you can move with it, this budget build will get you from point A to point B almost immediately!

6. Raging Spirit Lich

This next build takes an interesting spin on a minion build in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict. The Raging Spirit Lich is actually a minion build that uses a primary skill that is known to burn foes, especially if multiple spirits are summoned at a time.

To do this, you have to cast a low-level Flame Wall multiple times, almost as if you are spamming it. This is because Raging Spirits is now limited to only two spirits per spell cast, as opposed to five prior to PoE 2 Patch 0.3.0.

There is a new support gem in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict called "Muster," which significantly boosts the damage of the Raging Spirit Lich for every different type of minion that is summoned. You will insert this support gem into Raging Spirits and have the following minions called forth while mapping or bossing:

• Skeletal Storm Mage
• Terracotta Soldier
• Skeletal Cleric
• Skeletal Warrior
• Tamed Beast

As for the Tamed Beast, you simply head to the Troubled Camp in the Infested Barrens to find the Diretusk Boar. This beast must have either "All Damage Shocks" or "Haste Aura" as modifiers to ensure the optimal performance of the Raging Spirit Lich.

If the Diretusk Boar that you see near the Troubled Camp does not contain any of the aforementioned mods, simply press the Esc key and select "Respawn at Checkpoint." Do this multiple times until you get what you need.

The Raging Spirit Lich is one of the best budget builds in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict because it possesses so much power even on a minimal investment. Some of its offensive firepower comes from the "Necromantic Conduit" ascendancy node, which grants chaos damage on top of the fire damage that is dealt by the raging spirits.

You can literally play this build with all rare items only. Just make sure that you buy a Rattling Sceptre with tons of Spirit so that you can have multiple minions on the field at once.

Just bear in mind that Necromantic Conduit only works if you can keep your mana above 35% of the maximum. That is why you need to put a finger on your Mana Flask to ensure that your mana won't go down beyond that point.

While there is a bit of a setup to optimize the damage output of this PoE 2 budget build, the Raging Spirit Lich is a top performer once everything is up and running.

5. Lightning Arrow Deadeye

Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict has brought a lot of good things for projectile-based builds, and this next entry on our list is a great example of that.

The Lightning Arrow Deadeye Build Guide can destroy all content in PoE 2, whether that be T15+ map farming or eliminating T4 pinnacle bosses. Much of the power of this build comes from two skills—Lightning Arrow and Lightning Rod.

These skills are pretty much inseparable now, especially after the change that was made in Patch 0.3.0, where the chaining lightning bolts from Lightning Rod can only be enhanced when you shoot Lightning Arrow at them.

That said, the optimal skill rotation against bosses includes casting Barrage first, then unleashing multiple Lightning Rods to the ground. Once that is done, simply fire Lightning Arrow until the rods disappear. Repeat this process until the main target is eliminated.

So, why did this build get better in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict? Well, that is due to the addition of the Rhoa Mount. This allows you to mount one of those friendly Rhoas that prevent you from getting any movement speed penalty while firing your primary skills.

It is important to note that you can get stunned while riding the Rhoa. This happens when you receive a lot of damage in a short amount of time. Getting heavy-stunned while you are mounted is dangerous because you cannot do anything for several seconds.

The good news is that we are going to let you in on a little secret. Whenever you do get heavy-stunned, you can log out of the game to the character select screen, and then go back in. Once you are back in the game, you should be out of harm's way!

Anyway, the best investment you can make for this build that does not require an arm and a leg is a good Gemini Bow. It must contain increased critical hit chance and attack speed to gain a noticeable improvement in your DPS. If you cannot afford a Gemini Bow that has these mods, you could go for just one of them (we recommend attack speed for the time being).

Alternatively, if you do not have the PoE 2 Currency but would like to invest in the best weapon for the Lightning Arrow Deadeye, you could visit our PoE 2 Store to buy a mirror-tier Gemini Bow.

How about defenses? If you do not want to die out there, you can obtain DEX-based gear to boost your evasion. When you have more than 16,000 flat evasion, you can allocate the “Acrobatics” keystone so that you can evade everything, including those dangerous boss slams!

If you like the performance of this PoE 2 budget build and would like to continue further, there are a couple of upgrade paths you can take. You can invest in hybrid evasion/energy shield equipment, and then take Chaos Inoculation. On the other hand, you could get your hands on Olroth's Resolve to bolster your defense.

When you have Olroth's Resolve, do not forget to put the Lifetap support gem into Voltaic Mark. Doing so will allow you to take a sliver of your HP so that you can use Olroth's Resolve to gain a new defensive layer called Guard.

Thanks to the many additions in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict, the Lightning Arrow Deadeye just got a lot better!

4. Boneshatter Smith of Kitava

Does a cheap build in PoE 2 that cannot die appeal to you? If so, you should definitely give the Boneshatter Smith of Kitava a whirl!

This is one of the most popular Smith of Kitava builds in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict because it marries both offense and defense pretty nicely. The Boneshatter Smith of Kitava is not your one-dimensional build because it utilizes several skills to make things more dynamic!

Leap Slam is built in a way that will prime enemies for stun. This gives the Boneshatter enough power to create a forceful shockwave that can clear maps of monsters with a single, well-timed blow!

While bossing, you have to bring out the other skills in your kit. Spam Earthshatter prior to the boss fight. When the battle begins, cast Infernal Cry to shatter those spikes, and then immediately follow that up with Hammer of the Gods.

If you are wondering where your defenses come from, they are mostly from the Smith of Kitava's ascendancy nodes. Smith's Masterwork allows you to refine normal body armor with at least four unique modifiers. Some nodes you could take under Smith's Masterwork include Support Straps, Kitavan Engraving, Flowing Metal, and Molten Symbol.

Coal Stoker and Forged in Flame allow you to achieve a 90% value on all your elemental resistances. Of course, you would still need to invest in items that grant “+% to Maximum Fire Resistance”, but they are affordable.

Chief among them is the Infernoclasp. This unique belt can provide you with up to 5% maximum fire resistance, and it only costs five PoE 2 Exalted Orbs! Besides that, Ruby Jewels can roll up to 2% maximum fire resistance each.

Another noteworthy investment is Thrillsteel. Although it only provides one modifier, it is more than enough to boost the damage of this build because of that 20% increased skill speed and 10% increased movement speed via a permanent Onslaught buff.

If you really want to take things up a notch, you could obtain a high physical damage two-handed mace, particularly one that has “+7 to Level of All Melee Skills.” This is a bit more expensive, though you could get one that is well under 10 Divine Orbs.

Now, if you absolutely love how the Boneshatter Smith of Kitava performs and would like to go further in its development, then acquire the Chernobog's Pillar. This requires some serious investment, but the good news is that it is not mandatory for the build to function; it's just an item that you can look forward to if you like to deal tons of damage.

If you want to play a build that can achieve 90% on all elemental resistances and has no problems tackling content in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict, then we can wholeheartedly recommend the Boneshatter Smith of Kitava!

3. Ice Shot Deadeye

We have another cheap Deadeye build in PoE 2 here for you. The Ice Shot Deadeye is a solid build that you can run for mapping. But make no mistake, this build is not a one-trick pony, as it can also decimate pinnacle bosses even with budget gear!

Much of its power does not come from Ice Shot, though. You will have the Snipe skill to destroy the tougher targets. This is a channeling skill that you only have to hold for close to two seconds to get the full effect. When coupled with the Window of Opportunity support gem, you can deal tons of damage with a relatively good weapon.

Anyway, the reason why this build is called the Ice Shot Deadeye is that it still uses Ice Shot to kill map monsters. However, this version of the build incorporates Spiral Volley as well.

Use Ice Shot when the enemies are still far away from you. This skill has enough power to slow them down and obliterate them. In case they get dangerously close to your location, simply unleash a Spiral Volley to deal with them in an efficient way.

As with most bow builds in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict, you want to raise the critical hit chance of this build as high as you possibly can. To do this, get a Visceral Quiver to get increases in critical hit chance on both the implicit and explicit mods.

Of course, the Gemini Bow can significantly improve the build's damage output, especially if it has + to level of projectile skills, increased attack speed, and critical damage bonus.

What about upgrades? Hyrri's Ire is a pretty good item to equip for the Ice Shot Deadeye. This is the only body armor in the game that grants added cold damage. Why? The cold damage mod can only be found in weapons, gloves, and rings. So, having it on body armor is definitely a nice way to boost damage.

If you are into mapping, there is the Headhunter. The more quickly you can eliminate rare monsters in maps, the better this belt becomes. For bossing, invest in an Ingenuity belt that has more than 30% increased bonuses from equipped left/right rings.

After reading the Lightning Arrow Deadeye build above, you are probably asking if you could also mount the Rhoa with the Ice Shot Deadeye. Fortunately, it is an option you can take! You just have to experiment with it to see if it is something that you want or not.

All in all, the Ice Shot Deadeye is a fantastic mapper in the PoE 2 The Third Edict League that can deal six million or more damage with Snipe and other supporting skills.

2. Spark Blood Mage

If you have played in the first few months of PoE 2 Early Access, you've probably enjoyed the Spark Stormweaver build. Well, what if we tell you that there's an even better build that also uses the Spark skill in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict? Enter, the Spark Blood Mage!

What separates the Spark Blood Mage from her Stormweaver counterpart is that this build can easily achieve a 100% chance to crit with Spark. That is mainly because of Sunder the Flesh, which instantly enhances the base crit chance of Spark from 9% to 15%!

Scaling critical hit chance is easy because you can get this modifier in multiple ways, such as the helmet, caster focus, weapon, and Sapphire Jewels. For Sapphires, make sure to invest in jewels that provide "Increased Critical Hit Chance for Spells."

Another reason to go for the Blood Mage over the Stormweaver here is that you can easily scale your maximum life as well. The travel node before you reach the "Sanguimancy" ascendancy node, for example, already provides you with a 3% increase. When you have your resistances sorted out, you could put as many Soul Cores of Jiquani as you can for an additional 2% boost per unit!

After farming a bit of PoE 2 Currency, you can start investing in some awesome pieces of gear. Start with the Choir of the Storm— a unique amulet that allows you to call down devastating Lightning Bolts from the sky on a critical hit.

In addition, you can buy the Mask of the Sanguimancer. This is a relatively inexpensive helmet that grants a 40% increased chance to critically hit enemies with spells (such as Spark). The Mask of the Sanguimancer also allows you to cast Spark using life thanks to the "Blood Magic" effect (yes, this is the same as the keystone passive).

If you find that the Mask of Sanguimancer puts you in a dangerous situation (of having spent too much life), then you could grab Atziri's Acuity. These are a popular pair of gloves in PoE 2 that allow life leech from critical hits to be applied instantly (rather than over eight seconds).

Apart from the items already mentioned, you could improve your cast speed for more quality of life or increased critical hit chance to attain the full 100%. We highly recommend that you import your character into POB 2 so that you can see your actual critical hit chance. Do not rely on the in-game stats because they do not provide the whole picture.

Do not worry, the Spark Blood Mage is powerful even with all rare items. Once you get Choir of the Storm, however, that is when the build truly shines! Fortunately, the upgrades are not too expensive at all, making the Spark Blood Mage a true cheap build in PoE 2 Patch 0.3.0 that you can be proud of!

1. Lightning Spear Amazon

It should come as no surprise that the Lightning Spear Amazon is one of the best budget builds in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict. At level 18, you can unlock Lightning Spear, allowing you to breeze through the campaign from that point onward. This is one of the reasons why the Lightning Spear Amazon is a competent starter build in PoE 2.

This build has some pretty awesome yet affordable upgrades as well. Kitoko's Current allows you to easily gain Frenzy Charges. If you don't know, Lightning Spear can consume Frenzy Charges to hit more enemies when the lightning bolt splits.

Aside from that, you can purchase the Tangletongue for less than five Exalted Orbs on the trade website! This unique spear significantly increases your chance of landing critical hits, making it a valuable upgrade that allows you to enjoy the build even more!

Once you have more than a 60% critical hit chance, you can start saving for a Beacon of Azis. This unique amulet costs anywhere between three to five PoE 2 Chaos Orbs at the time of writing, so it shouldn't break the bank. Despite its cheap price, the Beacon of Azis provides a ton of value for the build, especially because it allows you to ignore the enemy's elemental resistance.

Because we are talking about the budget version of this build, using Lightning Spear alone might not be enough to kill those tough rare monsters. That is why you are also going to use Primal Strikes.

When you are hitting a Shocked enemy with Primal Strikes, you will unleash spirits that deal a considerable amount of damage. The downside to using Primal Strikes, though, is that you are unable to ride a Rhoa because you cannot initiate melee attacks while mounted. Luckily, you do not need Primal Strikes anymore when you are confident about your damage output in the long run.

For the ascendancy nodes, Critical Strike, Penetrate, and Predatory Instinct are pretty much mandatory for the build to function at its best. The last one can be anything that you like. Most players choose Elemental Infusion for that extra lightning damage, though getting Azmeri Brew or Mystic Harvest to improve survivability is not bad at all.

If you feel that the damage of Tangletongue is no longer enough to eliminate pinnacle bosses, then you could invest in a high physical damage spear with accuracy, attack speed, and critical hit chance. You will need a bit of PoE 2 Currency for this due to the build's insane popularity in the TTE League.

When you have all of the above-mentioned items equipped, you will understand why the Lightning Spear Amazon is one of the best budget builds in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict.

Final Thoughts

When you hear the words “budget build,” you are probably thinking of a PoE 2 build that is boring and less powerful than those that cost boatloads of Divine Orbs to make. However, that is not actually the case! There are, indeed, some really powerful builds that cost less than 10 Divines.

The Boneshatter Smith of Kitava, Lightning Spear Amazon, and the Lightning Arrow Deadeye lead the charge on that front. These builds perform exceptionally well even on self-found gear. You just have to concentrate on the modifiers that work best for these builds, and they will reward you with damage outputs that you can be proud of!
