Do you want to know how to create a Spark Stormweaver build in PoE 2 but you're not sure what to do exactly? Then you have come to the right place!

In this article, we will go over the things that make this particular build work. We are also going to explain why it is considered one of the best Sorceress Builds in Path of Exile 2.

Due to the sheer popularity of this build, you will need an incredible amount of currency to get the most out of the Spark Stormweaver. Not to worry, just head to our PoE 2 Store to get the rare items that will be discussed here so you don't have to worry about gear.

Why Play the Spark Stormweaver?

The Spark Stormweaver is a pretty well-rounded build in Path of Exile 2 that can be enjoyed by complete beginners, as well as experienced veterans of the game. This is one of the easiest builds that you can play, with an additional level of complexity if you want to go that route.

This build relies on Spark as its primary skill. Spark allows you to unleash up to 17 projectiles at max level and with its skill quality increased to 20%. When you have a relatively high cast speed, you can fill up the screen with Spark projectiles in a matter of seconds!

The beauty of using Spark in Path of Exile 2 compared to the original game is that you can now move using the WASD keys while casting it. Back then, you would have to stay in one place when you used the said lightning spell because it was not possible to move around while doing so.

With regard to the ascendancy class, this PoE 2 build chooses the Stormweaver for her ability to increase her cast speed considerably via Arcane Surge and make Spark deadlier thanks to Strike Twice. You can experiment with Tempest Caller to also summon a stationary Elemental Storm, which may help in mapping. Otherwise, you can select Scouring Winds to improve Lightning Exposure by an additional 20%.

That said, here are the ascendancy nodes that you will allocate when playing the Spark Stormweaver build in PoE 2:

  1. Constant Gale
  2. Force of Will
  3. Strike Twice
  4. Scouring Winds

Now, there are plenty of variations of the Spark Stormweaver. You can start out with a staff for that higher spell damage, lightning damage, and spell skills roll. When you reach level 55+, you can think of replacing the staff with a wand and caster focus. These two are better compared to the staff because you can roll defensive modifiers on the caster focus while retaining all of the offensive mods on the wand.

Once you have invested in ES-based gear and have mana beyond 3,000, you can think of allocating the Chaos Inoculation keystone passive. You can read more about it in our dedicated PoE 2 best keystone passives guide.

Whatever version of Spark you go for, you will still use Archmage regardless. Archmage is a persistent buff that increases the mana cost of your spells but also provides extra lightning damage depending on your maximum mana. Hence, a need to raise your mana as high as you can through gear and passive skills.

This build can survive with mostly rare items, though it certainly shines when you invest in some unique items. Don't worry, we will provide you with plenty of gearing options when we reach that part of this Path of Exile 2 build guide.

That said, if you are going to purchase items for the Spark Stormweaver, prioritize these modifiers:

  • + to Maximum Energy Shield
  • Increased Maximum Energy Shield
  • + to Maximum Mana
  • Increased Spell Damage
  • Increased Lightning Damage
  • + to Level of All Lightning Spell Skills
  • + to Level of All Spell Skills
  • Increased Cast Speed
  • Increased Mana Regeneration Rate
  • Increased Critical Hit Chance
  • Increased Critical Hit Chance for Spells
  • Fire/Cold/Lightning Resistance
  • + to All Elemental Resistances

Playstyle

The Spark Stormweaver has a pretty straightforward playstyle. For the most part, you're just going to hold down the button for Spark and start filling the screen with a plethora of lightning projectiles, which should kill most of the monsters in a few seconds.

You can cast Flame Wall to add fire damage to your Spark projectiles, causing them to ignite monsters that are hit. Ignite is a fire-based elemental ailment in Path of Exile 2 that also inflicts damage over time. Although you're not really into improving fire damage, the additional output is still good for clearing packs of enemies.

When you encounter rare monsters, cast Frost Wall two or three times until the intended targets are encased in ice. Then, simply cast Spark again to break the wall, dealing burst damage as a result.

Your boss rotation involves a prior setup to deal the most amount of damage possible on this build. On your second weapon set, equip a Chiming Staff that gives you access to the Sigil of Power. So long as you cast Spark and your other spells within the sigil's area of effect, you'll gain more spell damage as a result.

Once that is done, cast Orb of Storms to inflict Lightning Exposure, which is a debuff that strips the lightning resistance of affected enemies by 20% by default. You can improve that by taking the Scouring Winds ascendancy node as well. Additionally, use Conductivity on the boss to further reduce their resistance to lightning damage.

After the initial setup, cast Frost Wall as you would fighting rare monsters, and then decimate the boss by spamming Spark. If you incorporate Soul Offering into your build, utilize that to boost spell damage. Just make sure that you have enough Spirit to summon two Skeletal Clerics to sacrifice for the said offering spell. You can refer to our Path of Exile 2 Spirit Guide to learn more information about this new resource.

Spark Stormweaver Gear Recommendations

The Spark Stormweaver can actually work with just rare pieces of gear as long as they have the right modifiers. That is why it is also considered one of the best SSF builds in PoE 2 primarily for that reason.

However, when you want to obtain the build's ideal endgame gear, you will soon find that it requires a ton of investment given the build's popularity, as well as the viability of such items. If you want to get your hands on the unique items but don't have enough currency to do so, then head to our PoE 2 Store. We'll deck your character out with the most expensive endgame items, such as the Morior Invictus, Dream Fragments, etc.

Weapon

When you are still leveling up, always use a staff with increased spell damage, increased lightning damage, increased cast speed, and increased mana regeneration rate. A combination of any of them should help make your leveling journey a whole lot smoother. If you can find a staff with "+ to Level of All Lightning Spells" from the vendors in town, then that is even better!

At level 55 or so, you can switch to a wand with a more defined set of modifiers. The main priority is the increase in lightning spell skills or simply spell skills. The reason why this is greatly desired is that these modifiers enhance the damage of Spark significantly.

What other modifiers do you need on your wand? Well, you want a high roll of maximum mana as it also contributes to your survivability via the Eldritch Battery keystone passive. Besides that, increased cast speed is good because it makes you fire the projectiles much quicker than without it.

When you have the notable passive skill "Pure Power" allocated, having an Intelligence modifier on the wand is useful as well. As for the base, you can go for Attuned Wand or Siphoning Wand if you're going to craft it yourself. Otherwise, you can go for any wand as long as it has the modifiers said in this section of the PoE 2 Spark Stormweaver build guide.

Off-hand

This version of the Spark Stormweaver build in Path of Exile 2 can eliminate any monster in the game with ease thanks to its frequency in landing critical hits with the said spell. That's why you're going to invest in a Plumed Focus because it can roll spell critical strike chance as its suffix.

Aside from that, the Plumed Focus can roll a couple of energy shield modifiers, as well as increased cast speed and level of all spell skills. You can assume that this off-hand with these particular modifiers are expensive, so be sure to have enough PoE 2 Divine Orbs at the ready.

The Expert Plumed Focus pictured above is already great in the endgame. However, there is a worthy contender to that in the form of Mahuxotl's Machination. This thing greatly improves the effect of socketed Soul Cores. You want at least a 650% increased effect to make this unique shield count. If you can't afford it, stick to the Plumed Focus instead.

Body Armor

There are three different types of body armor that work really well for the Spark Stormweaver. For those on a tight budget, you can equip a rare energy shield-based body armor, preferably the Expert Hexer's Robe. Besides a couple of ES modifiers, you can resolve your issues with elemental resistance on this gear slot.

Ultimately, invest in an Expert Hexer's Robe with energy shield, Spirit, and Intelligence.

If you transition to Chaos Inoculation but don't have the budget for the high-end rare body armor that was just mentioned, you can settle for the Ghostwrithe in the meantime. This unique body armor converts half of your maximum life to energy shield (on top of 100 points of flat ES).

The crafted Expert Hexer's Robe is already pretty good. However, if you want to take things up a notch, equip the Morior Invictus with increased attributes and elemental resistance per soul core. The Soul Core that you will insert here is the Soul Core of Zalatl for that 2% increased maximum mana each.

Helmet

On the helmet, you want a rare Feathered Tiara (Expert if endgame version) with mana and a couple of ES mods. Furthermore, this thing can also roll increased critical hit chance and INT, so you might want to have those too. If you're wondering if the crit mod just mentioned works for spells, yes, it does.

If you get Chaos Inoculation, you can combine Ghostwrithe with Atziri's Disdain for a massive boost in energy shield at a budget price! Since Atziri's Disdain is pretty cheap, you can use a Vaal Orb to corrupt it and hope that it will result in another socket or more energy shield. Don't forget to improve its quality with Armourer's Scraps first.

Gloves

When you reach level 26, you can wear a unique pair of gloves called Kitoko's Current. These gloves are actually quite useful for improving survivability as they give your Spark projectiles the ability to electrocute enemies. Electrocution is another lightning-based elemental ailment that is akin to stun, where enemies are unable to move for a brief period. The added 10-20 dexterity on Kitoko's Current also helps you insert the green support gems, which is a lot on this Path of Exile 2 build.

The gloves for the endgame are another ES-based gear with maximum mana, intelligence, and some elemental resistance. Don't forget to socket an Iron Rune there as well.

Boots

For the boots, you want to get a pair that has the highest increased movement speed modifier that is appropriate for your current level. The rest of the modifiers on this piece of gear are largely the same as the others. If your resistances are already sorted out, you can replace one suffix with the increased rarity of items found mod for a better chance to drop higher-quality loot.

Amulet

Assuming that you already have Chaos Inoculation and Eldritch Battery allocated, you can wear The Everlasting Gaze to give you a portion of the energy shield back to protect you from incoming hits. For the uninitiated, Eldritch Battery converts all your energy shield to mana, leaving you with no ES left unless you equip the said unique amulet.

The Everlasting Gaze can be enhanced by utilizing the Neural Catalyst. Use this catalyst however many times needed to achieve the full 20% quality.

While the Everlasting Gaze can be used in the endgame, you can go for a rare Stellar Amulet with a high amount of Spirit if you want to activate persistent buffs and minions to improve your PoE 2 Spark Stormweaver build.

The benefit of having a rare amulet is that you can roll a bunch of useful modifiers, including maximum mana, increased energy shield, and increased cast speed, among others.

As for the anointment, the best you can put on your amulet is Wild Storm (Distilled Isolation, Distilled Fear, Distilled Isolation). What this notable passive skill does is it grants 15% more maximum lightning damage, which is quite huge for this PoE 2 build.

Of course, the Distilled Emotions that allow you to anoint Wild Storm are rather expensive. If you need some Divines for that, go to our PoE 2 Currency Store right away!

Rings

On the rings, you actually want mana, INT, and cast speed. If you need more resistances, you can forgo cast speed in favor of two elemental resistance modifiers, such as fire and cold resistance.

The base of the ring does not matter when you are still starting out. However, if you reach the point in your PoE 2 journey where every item should be min-maxed, go for Breach Rings in the end.

The reason why many people opt for Breach Rings is that their quality can be increased up to 50% (instead of just 20% like the regular rings). So, if you have a high mana modifier on the Breach Ring, you can possibly get 250 mana or more with enough Neural Catalysts.

If you're not wearing The Everlasting Gaze unique amulet, you have to make sure that your mana is above 7,000 to have enough for casting spells and to keep yourself from dying. To attain that value, wear the Dream Fragments on one of your ring slots. This thing is the only ring in Path of Exile 2 that can provide you with a percentage increase in maximum mana. Furthermore, the Dream Fragments let you use a different charm like the Golden Charm or Stone Charm rather than the conventional Thawing Charm because it makes you immune to freezing as well.

Belt

Ingenuity is the endgame belt for the Spark Stormweaver. This belt is best known for improving the modifiers on your equipped rings by up to 80%! You can go a lot higher than that, though it will require a successful corruption via the Vaal Orb.

Having said that, never use an Ingenuity that has below 70% increased effect because it is useless. Always aim for at least 70%, which costs around 11 to 15 Divine Orbs at the time of writing.

If you don’t have the PoE 2 Currency to purchase an Ingenuity just yet, use any belt that has elemental resistance and mana. Some STR on the belt is also useful, especially if you plan on using more than two red support gems.

Flasks

Life Flask is irrelevant on the Spark Stormweaver once you transition to Chaos Inoculation. Before that time comes, get a Life Flask that has “Gain # Charges per Second” and “Increased Amount of Life Recovered.”

The Mana Flask is definitely important for this build. You also want “Increased Amount of Mana Recovered,” though you should opt for “Increased Charges” on the other modifier.

If you have the means, we highly recommend that you buy the Melting Maelstrom. This is a unique flask in Path of Exile 2 that instantly recovers your mana in a single click regardless of how large your mana pool is.

The duration of the flask does not matter because you’re not after its extra chaos damage. Simply buy the cheapest one you can find on trade. If you need guidance with trading, you can read our PoE 2 trading guide.

Jewels

Your PoE 2 Spark Stormweaver build can greatly benefit from Sapphire Jewels that have any four of these modifiers:

  • Recover 2% of Mana on Kill
  • Increased Spell Damage
  • Increased Elemental Damage
  • Increased Cast Speed
  • Increased Critical Hit Chance
  • Increased Critical Hit Chance for Spells
  • Increased Critical Damage Bonus
  • Increased Mana Regeneration Rate
  • Increased Magnitude of Shock You Inflict
  • Faster Start of Energy Shield Recharge
  • Increased Energy Shield Recharge Rate
  • Corrupted Blood Cannot Be Inflicted on You
    • This is a corrupted mod

If you can stretch your budget, you can get the Against the Darkness unique jewel that has “% Increased Intelligence.” The other modifier is not important, though you can certainly get more value if it has something to do with maximum elemental resistance.

Passive Tree

At the beginning of your journey as a Spark Sorceress, get nodes that improve spell damage, lightning damage, and cast speed. Raw Power, for example, grants 20% increased spell damage and 10 intelligence when allocated. Path of Storms is another notable passive skill you can allocate early on as it increases lightning damage by 18% and raises your ability to shock enemies by 30%.

On the travel nodes, you might need to reserve a couple for dexterity unless you are able to get that attribute somewhere on your gear. If you are playing the non-crit version of the Spark Stormweaver, we highly recommend that you anoint Lightning Rod on the passive tree. This notable passive skill requires Distilled Suffering, Distilled Isolation, and Distilled Isolation. What this does is it makes your Spark projectiles hit harder despite not truly investing into crit.

Now, a common question being asked with regard to this build is when you should allocate Chaos Inoculation. We recommend that you only take it when you have at least 3,000 energy shield. As for Eldritch Battery, you need to have at least 3,000 mana as well (before equipping The Everlasting Gaze).

Eldritch Battery is often paired with Mind Over Matter to transfer some of the damage you receive to mana. However, only take it if you have more than 4,000 mana because you'll be very squishy when you don't have that large of a mana pool.

As for when you should take the crit nodes, that is if you already have "% Increased Critical Hit Chance for Spells" on the wand and "% Increased Hit Chance" on the helmet. Supplement your crit with some Sapphires, of course.

Tips and Strategies

Are you struggling in certain areas when playing the Spark Stormweaver? Maybe these tips will help:

Recover Mana is Valuable

The value of the "Recover 2% of Mana on Kill" cannot be overstated, especially if you are playing a Spark Stormweaver that has an incredibly high cast speed and Eldritch Battery allocated.

Normally, you'll lose quite a lot of mana while mapping. When you have the said modifier on at least a couple of Sapphires, you can easily recover your mana just by killing monsters.

When you're going against bosses, the Melting Maelstrom should help address your problems with mana.

Improve Your Crit

Critical damage in Path of Exile 2 is always at least 100% extra damage. That is why we highly recommend that you opt for the crit version of the build in the endgame because you're leaving quite a lot of damage output if you don't go this route.

Now, you might see other Spark Stormweavers that don't go crit with the help of the Lightning Rod. Well, that is only viable if you have the PoE 2 Currency because you also need to acquire some pretty expensive things, including a 100% "The Adorned" jewel, a bevy of corrupted magic jewels, and certain unique items. Unless you have the budget for these items, stick to the crit version.

Can You Use Cast on Shock?

Absolutely! You can utilize a Cast on Shock setup on the Spark Stormweaver and put the following skills into it:

  • Lightning Conduit OR Ball Lightning
  • Impetus
  • Energy Retention
  • Elemental Focus
  • Rising Tempest

Although it's possible to use Cast on Shock here, you have to make certain compromises to enable it. For one, you have to remove Grim Feast and Clarity to get 40 Spirit back. The remaining 20 points of Spirit can either be gained from your body armor or a rare amulet.

In addition, if you are going for Cast on Shock, replace Frost Wall.

Is The Everlasting Gaze Necessary?

The Everlasting Gaze, despite its usefulness in helping you survive, is actually not mandatory for the build to function. The only reason why it's quite popular among Spark Stormweaver builds in Path of Exile 2 is that it provides a considerable amount of energy shield, which is a defensive layer you can count on more than regular armor.

Although we recommend that you wear The Everlasting Gaze, you are not bound to it. You can replace it with a rare amulet with attributes, intelligence, cast speed, and even Spirit.

How About Dream Fragments?

Dream Fragments is a unique ring that increases your maximum mana by 20% (or more with the right corruption). This thing costs a significant amount of PoE 2 Divine Orbs, so only treat it as one of the final pieces you can get to fully upgrade your build. You can benefit from a couple of well-rolled Breach Rings for the time being.

Final Thoughts

The Spark Stormweaver is one of those Path of Exile 2 builds that you will never regret. This build has the power to destroy all content in the game—from corrupted T16 maps to pinnacle bosses like Xesht and Zarokh.

One of the reasons why this build is overpowered right now is that it scales damage and survivability easily through energy shield, intelligence, and mana. If GGG does not nerf the Spark Stormweaver, we could see it dominating the player charts up to the eventual full release of the game!

Of course, this build runs on some pretty expensive items in the late game. So, if you don't have the means to purchase any of the more coveted gear, don't forget that we have a PoE 2 store ready and waiting for you!

With all of that said, what do you like about the Stormweaver? Let us know in the comments!

PROS

  • Easy damage scaling
  • Can destroy all content in the game
  • SSF-viable

CONS

  • Endgame items are expensive
  • Squishy without the right gear
