Game Guides , Path of Exile 2
The Sorceress, one of the spellcasting classes in Path of Exile 2, is pretty popular right now because of her insane damage potential and unmatched defense. The latter is so true, in fact, that even Warriors cannot defeat the Sorceress in terms of survivability.
Having said that, we invite you to read this article to completion. Here, we will discuss the best Sorceress Builds in Path of Exile 2. We will go over the necessary info and gem setups if you want to try them out.
We also have a PoE 2 Store ready and waiting for your orders. If you want to get your hands on highly-coveted items for any high-end Sorceress builds, we have them all!
Why Choose the Sorceress?

Before anything, what comes to your mind when you hear the word "Sorceress?" Are you thinking of a spellcasting mage that can obliterate enemies but have little to no defense? Well, the Sorceress class in Path of Exile 2 is unlike that because it's great in both offense and defense!
The Sorceress, particularly one of her ascendancy classes, is pretty much ubiquitous in the current state of PoE 2 Early Access. Just log in and wait in one of the major settlements in town and you'll see what I mean.
Anyway, the reason why the Sorceress is quite overpowered right now is that there are so many ways to scale the damage of this Path of Exile 2 class. You can increase your mana to astronomical heights, improve cast speed to activate your spells quicker, and enhance your energy shield that can be converted to mana for even more spell damage, among other things.
Due to the popularity of the Sorceress in the current meta, the items that she needs require a plethora of PoE 2 Divine Orbs. You can certainly use some Sorc Builds as a starter character, but you have to be willing to invest most (if not all) of your currency for better performance in the endgame.
So, if you are looking for an INT-based class in Path of Exile 2 that will not disappoint, then the Sorceress is truly a top contender in this regard!
Best Sorceress Skills to Use
Part of what makes the Sorceress awesome is the skills that she can utilize to a much greater extent. Here are the best skills to use for Sorceress Build in Path of Exile 2:
Spark

Do you want a spell that can populate the screen with a bevy of projectiles, leaving your enemies with no place to run? Well, that is the premise of Spark!
Spark is a lightning-based spell that allows you to create multiple projectiles in a single cast. Sorceress builds that use this spell often improve their cast speed so that a bunch of projectiles are created in a jiffy.
It is always a good idea to increase the quality of this skill gem because it makes you fire several more projectiles. Furthermore, both crit- and non-crit versions of Spark Sorceress Builds can utilize this spell both as a primary offensive ability or only to activate meta-skills like Cast on Critical or Cast on Shock.
Flame Wall

Flame Wall is mainly used as a complementary skill to Spark. By itself, the Flame Wall can ignite enemies foolish enough to pass through it. However, it is mostly used as a means of providing added fire damage to Spark projectiles, causing them to ignite enemies that are hit.
Frost Wall

The complete opposite of the previous skill, the Frost Wall enables you to create a massive wall of ice. Although it can prevent enemies from coming near you, it is mainly utilized for damage. This is because you can actually break the Frost Wall with your other abilities, which results in an explosion of cold damage that can eliminate nearby monsters.
Comet

A highly devastating spell when linked to the right support gems, Comet is an incredible skill that can decimate entire screens of monsters with just one or two casts. When you manually cast the spell, it prompts you to jump backward. This is annoying if you want to maximize the spell's full potential.
That is why Comet is typically paired with meta-skill gems like Cast on Freeze or Cast on Critical. When it's activated this way, you gain the full advantage of Comet without the inherent downside.
Lightning Conduit

Lightning Conduit is a spell that allows you to call forth multiple lightning bolts from the sky to kill a group of enemies. It also has the same issue as Comet, where you jump backward if it is cast near a monster.
Now, Lightning Conduit is often not cast manually for a couple of reasons. One, you don't want to jump backward every time you use this spell because doing so will actually cause a delay, making you inefficient in clearing maps. Two, you want to maximize its damage and that is only possible if you hit an enemy that's already affected by Shock.
You see, Lightning Conduit cannot inflict Shock on its own; it has to rely on other lightning-based abilities like Spark and Lightning Bolt for that. Hence, it is usually found in Cast on Shock setups to address its issues.
Lightning Warp

Do you like the idea of teleporting to a monster to kill it? Well, Lightning Warp actually makes that possible! When used, you teleport to the nearest enemy on the verge of dying and cause their bodies to explode, dealing lightning damage to nearby monsters as well.
Lightning Warp is an awesome spell but you'd have to wait for enemies to be under 35% health before you can use it. Fortunately, you can cast Ball Lightning and use the projectile it creates to teleport to its location. Using Lightning Warp this way will also create a lightning explosion, so you don't have to worry about that.
Archmage
No matter what Sorceress ascendancy class you choose, it's always a good idea to activate Archmage. This is a persistent buff that gives you extra lightning damage for every 100 points of mana that you have. To maximize Archmage, you have to stack mana as high as possible. The good thing is that mana modifiers are pretty easy to come by; you just have to equip INT-based gear.
Take note that Archmage requires a hefty amount of Spirit to activate (100 Spirit, to be exact). If you want to know how you can get more Spirit, you can check our dedicated PoE 2 Spirit Guide for that.
Cast on Shock/Cast on Critical/Cast on Freeze
These are meta-skills in Path of Exile 2. They don't do anything by themselves, you have to socket at least one active skill so that it gets triggered by the meta-skills automatically.
Meta-skills have an energy mechanic, where they gain energy by satisfying certain conditions. Once maximum energy is achieved, the skill slotted to them will be cast, and the meter goes back to zero, prompting you to build it up again. Cast on Shock, for example, accumulates energy every time you inflict the Shock elemental ailment with hits from your other skills.
Now, why would you even utilize meta-skills in the first place? Aside from circumventing the downsides of certain abilities (like Comet and Lighting Conduit), meta-skills can be configured to cast multiple spells at once, giving you quality of life.
Blink
The Dodge Roll, despite its many uses, has a limitation in that you can only cover a few meters with it. Although it can help you get away from some attacks, it falls short when it comes to avoiding boss slams.
Enter Blink. This is a buff that, when activated, replaces the Dodge Roll with a movement ability that lets you teleport several meters from your current location. What makes Blink more useful is that you can use it in quick succession, particularly when you have the Temporalis unique body armor equipped.
What is the Best Sorceress Ascendancy Class?
It is important to note that this article was made before the full release of Path of Exile 2, which means that only two ascendancy classes for each base class are available. That’s why I will only comment on the ascendancies that are usable in the current iteration of the game. You can check out our PoE 2 full release article for more details.
That said, the Stormweaver is easily the best ascendancy class for the Sorceress and it’s not even close. Archmage is an incredibly powerful buff right now and it gets amplified or improved somehow with the ascendancy nodes available to the Stormweaver.
For instance, Constant Gale pretty much gives you free access to Arcane Surge—a buff that enhances cast speed and mana regeneration rate. Force of Will works in line with Archmage as it also amplifies the effect of Arcane Surge by 1% for every 15 points of mana that you have.
Strike Twice is another popular Stormweaver ascendancy node. This skill essentially allows you to inflict Shock on the enemy twice. To understand how powerful it is, you must know what Shock actually does.
Shock is a lightning-based elemental ailment in Path of Exile 2 that causes affected targets to take increased damage from hits. When you have modifiers that affect the magnitude of Shock, you can deal burst damage to enemies as a result!
How about the Chronomancer? Does this ascendancy class have redeeming qualities? Fortunately, the Chronomancer is not a dud, unlike the Mercenary’s Witch Hunter ascendancy.
The Chronomancer has access to Temporal Rift if “Footprints in the Sand” is allocated. Temporal Rift allows you to create a maximum of 16 afterimages. When you cast the spell, you will return to the oldest afterimage, inheriting the life, mana, and energy shield it has at the time of its creation. This is great if you are hit by the enemy and you suffer a huge amount of damage because of it.
Another noteworthy ascendancy node from the Chronomancer is the Apex of the Moment. This passive slows down enemies that are surrounding you by 20%. You can maximize this by also incorporating Temporal Chains into your setup. This is a curse that slows enemies down by a higher percentage, for those who are wondering.
And then, there’s Ultimate Command. Taking this ascendancy node gives you the power to freeze time by activating the aptly called Time Freeze skill. Enemies that are affected by Time Freeze are unable to act for a few seconds, which is more than enough time to deal massive amounts of damage unimpeded.
While the Chronomancer may have some quirky abilities that have endgame potential, it still needs improvements in certain areas to be considered the best. If you want a no-frills Sorceress ascendancy class in PoE 2 that can take you to the top, then choose Stormweaver.
Best Sorceress Builds
There are only a few stand-out builds for the Sorceress class in Path of Exile 2. The other ones you can find out there are only variations of what I am going to talk about in this section.
Anyway, these builds have the power to destroy enemies with ease. Take note that the items that these Sorceress Builds need to reach their full potential are not cheap due to the popularity of the said class, so you may want to stock up on PoE 2 Currency.
With that out of the way, here are the best Sorceress Builds in PoE 2:
Ice Nova Chronomancer
People will argue that despite how devastating lightning-based abilities are, nothing can compare to the utility that cold-based spells provide. If you agree, then you might find the Ice Nova Chronomancer more to your liking!
This build actually uses Ice Nova only as a means to activate Cast on Critical to trigger multiple casts of Comet. In the endgame, you will transition to the crit version, which also utilizes Eye of Winter to inflict Critical Weakness on your enemies.
Now, this build uses a ton of Spirit to activate several buffs. To address this, you need to get a hold of some mandatory items. For one, acquire a Morior Invictus that specifically has “Increased Maximum Mana” and “+ to Spirit” per socketed rune or soul core. Insert the Soul Core of Zalatl on this unique body armor to gain up to 8% increased mana (or 10% if you have a corrupted one with five sockets).
After that, get yourself an Omen Sceptre to gain access to Malice. Think of Malice as an AoE version of Eye of Winter that is active at all times. The Omen Sceptre must have more than 210 points of Spirit, which can be achieved by a high “% Increased Spirit” modifier.
The Ice Nova Chronomancer also requires two curse spells to be active at the same time on your enemies for maximum damage. The first is Hypothermia, which reduces the cold resistance of those affected by 36% at the max level. The second is Conductivity—a curse spell that does the same thing as Hypothermia, albeit for lightning resistance. Conductivity is utilized by way of Blasphemy, so you need another 60 Spirit for this to work.
Because this PoE 2 build uses Ingenuity, the rings you should wear must have increased cold and lightning damage modifiers. The ring’s base type doesn’t matter, but opt for Breach Rings if you want to use them well into the endgame.
Since you are using the Chronomancer here, cast Time Freeze so that enemies stay in their place. Afterward, position yourself accordingly, making sure that each monster gets hit by Ice Nova. Doing so will then cast Frost Wall and Comet to deal massive amounts of lightning and cold damage (due to the other items and abilities used on this build).
During boss fights, you can put down the Sigil of Power from a high-level Chiming Staff. Make sure to activate Sigil of Power only on the second weapon set so that you don’t have to manually switch to the Chiming Staff just to cast the said spell.
You can also deal even more damage when you equip the Trampletoe only when fighting pinnacle bosses. The Frost Wall that gets exploded by Comet will deal overkill damage to the boss, as well as any nearby enemy.

Lightning Warp Stormweaver
Path of Exile 2 does not have a bevy of movement skills unlike in PoE 1. Therefore, if you want a build that can teleport at will while also killing enemies in the process, then the Lightning Warp Stormweaver is the ideal build for you!
The premise of this PoE 2 build is that you cast Ball of Lightning so that you can teleport to it using Lightning Warp. This will also cause a lightning explosion similar to teleporting to a dying enemy, so you can take advantage of that.
The Lightning Warp Stormweaver definitely needs you to have a substantial amount of mana. Why? Because it takes care of offense and defense! Having high amounts of mana on this build not only allows you to cast Lightning Warp freely but it also contributes to faster cast speed and increased mana regeneration due to the Force of Will ascendancy node.
Furthermore, this build allocates three keystone passives—Chaos Inoculation, Mind Over Matter, and Eldritch Battery. The last one converts all your energy shield to maximum mana, while Mind Over Matter reduces mana before life. Chaos Inoculation makes you immune to chaos damage at the cost of only having one HP. This isn't a problem considering that you can scale mana immensely with the right gear.
Now, even though you have Eldritch Battery, you still have some energy shield left thanks to The Everlasting Gaze. If you are going to obtain one, make sure to get a version that has 30% of maximum mana as extra maximum energy shield so that you have plenty of ES to work with for improving defense.
What other items can you invest in to make the Lightning Warp Stormweaver better? Aside from a 70%-80% Ingenuity belt, you want a well-rolled Maligaro’s Virtuosity as well. These gloves improve critical hit chance by up to 30%. However, the main reason why you should opt for Maligaro’s Virtuosity over a pair of rare gloves is that it grants a whopping 300% critical damage bonus!
To ensure that you are landing more consistent critical hits with your spells, you must use the Omen Sceptre in the off-hand to get the Malice Aura. You need to utilize a sceptre anyway due to the heavy Spirit requirement to make the Cast on Critical and Blasphemy setups work.
Do you want to try the Lightning Warp Stormweaver because of its zoomy playstyle? If that's so, here are the spells that you need:
- Lightning Warp
- Overcharge
- Magnified Effect
- Lightning Exposure
- Inspiration
- Strip Away
- Ball Lightning
- Scattershot
- Unleash
- Arcane Tempo
- Wildshards
- Cast on Critical
- Lightning Conduit
- Impetus
- Considered Casting
- Elemental Focus
- Inevitable Critical
- Note: Aim for at least a 30% critical hit chance for Lightning Warp to consistently trigger Cast on Critical
- Archmage
- Lightning Mastery
- Clarity
- Mana Tempest
- Premeditation
- Lightning Mastery
- Blasphemy
- Temporal Chains
- Heightened Curse
- Conductivity
- None
- Grim Feast
- None
- Ascendancy Nodes
- Constant Gale
- Force of Will
- Strike Twice
- Scouring Winds
Spark Stormweaver
If you're asking me what the best Sorceress Build in Path of Exile 2 is, then I can wholeheartedly recommend the Spark Stormweaver. While the other two are incredible, this PoE 2 build is just too good because of its impressive scaling with endgame gear. What's more, you can use this build as your starter character and you can just purchase the upgrades one by one as you get more currency. Let's start talking about the star of the show, shall we?
Spark is your primary ability on this build. It causes you to fill the screen with multiple lightning projectiles easily thanks to its insanely high cast speed. Orb of Storms serves as a utility skill mainly to inflict Lightning Exposure and Shock.
Now, there are many variations of the Spark Stormweaver build in Path of Exile 2, but the version I am going to talk about uses a couple of different spells. First, instead of casting Flame Wall to provide added fire damage to Spark, this version uses Frost Wall for more burst damage.
On top of that, this build utilizes Soul Offering to gain a considerable amount of spell damage for a limited time. You will sacrifice a couple of Skeletal Clerics for this one. To gain enough Spirit, you will equip a Morior Invictus that has +10 additional Spirit per socketed soul core. If your budget permits it, get one that has five sockets so that you won't have problems satisfying Spirit requirements.
The second weapon set is the standard Chiming Staff that has a level 18 or level 20 Sigil of Power. Since you don't have an exorbitant amount of Spirit, make sure to activate Blink, Soul Offering, Soul Cleric, and Sigil of Power only on the second weapon set. Archmage should only be active when you are using your primary weapon.
Speaking of which, get a high-level Attuned Wand or Siphoning Wand that has increased spell damage, increased lightning damage, maximum mana, cast speed, intelligence, and +5 to level of all lightning spell skills. On the amulet, invest in one that has "+3 to level of All Spell Skills," intelligence, and all attributes. Anoint it with Spaghettification (Distilled Isolation, Distilled Despair, and Distilled Fear) as well.
Once you have the aforementioned items, it's time to focus on raising your maximum mana as high as possible. Acquire the Dream Fragments as it increases your maximum mana by 20%! Pair that with Ingenuity and you have plenty of mana to work with; both for casting your offensive spells and making you survive longer while mapping and bossing.
Take note that this is not a crit build by any means. This is so that you can take full advantage of the Lightning Rod notable passive skill, which causes you to deal the most amount of lightning damage even on non-critical hits.
Since you only have a limited number of passive skill points, this version of the Spark Stormweaver requires you to have a Controlled Metamorphosis unique jewel, particularly one that allows you to allocate passive skills in a massive ring. This lets you take Pure Power, Lightning Quick, and Drenched on the passive tree and save up points to allocate on other nodes.
Lastly, obtain the Melting Maelstrom. This unique flask recovers all of your mana on use. The duration of the flask is irrelevant because you're not after its extra chaos damage (although, getting a max roll is not bad at all).

Tips
Any Sorceress build does benefit from a high amount of mana, but what else can you improve to make them even better? Well, you can find some useful tips below:
Prioritize Energy Shield for Defense
Among the three main defensive layers in Path of Exile 2, namely armor, evasion, and energy shield, only energy shield scales really well in the endgame. Sure, you can get copious amounts of armor and evasion, though they have downsides in that you are still susceptible to getting hit.
Energy shield is useful for Sorceress Builds because it not only helps improve survivability, but also boosts your mana pool via the Eldritch Battery keystone. Remember, the more mana you have, the better Archmage becomes.
If you're not comfortable losing your energy shield when taking Eldritch Battery, you can wear The Everlasting Gaze amulet to regain some energy shield.
Have Mana on Gear
In the current meta, Sorceress Builds incorporate Archmage to increase their damage output. Archmage gets even better the more mana you have. That is why it is pretty much mandatory to have a mana modifier on your gear (except on the weapon).
Although you can start with at least 60-70 mana on a piece of gear, aim for 100 mana or more to get better results from Archmage and Force of Will (if you're playing the Stormweaver).
Recover Mana Through Jewels
Apart from energy shield, you have to take care of your mana as well. With Archmage enabled, using your primary skills can eat up your mana like there's no tomorrow. So, to somehow resolve that issue, you can obtain Sapphire Jewels that have "Recover 1-2% Mana on Kill."
When you have enough PoE 2 Currency, you can get the Melting Maelstrom unique mana flask. This mana flask instantly recovers all your mana on use, which makes it a valuable item for any Sorceress Build!
Take Chaos Inoculation
The reason why having high amounts of energy shield and mana is important for Sorc Builds in PoE 2 is so that you can take Chaos Inoculation. This keystone passive is so useful because it makes you impervious to chaos damage. It does come with a heavy cost, however, in that your life is reduced to one, so you have to rely on the energy shield to keep yourself from dying.
Why should you take Chaos Inoculation anyway? Well, for a couple of reasons. First, it frees up three to four suffixes on gear since you don't have to get chaos resistance anymore. Second, chaos damage becomes more rampant in the endgame, so being immune to it increases your chances of survival significantly!
Now, as a Sorceress with copious amounts of mana, you can take things a step further. Besides taking CI, you can allocate both Mind Over Matter (MoM) and Eldritch Battery as well. The former transfers damage from your life to mana, while the latter converts all your ES to mana.
Okay, so you are probably convinced about Chaos Inoculation, Mind Over Matter, and Eldritch Battery. The question now is: when should you take them? Allocate these nodes only if you have at least 3,000 energy shield and mana. Of course, the higher their values are, the better.
Is 'EG' Mandatory for CI Builds?
EG is short for "The Everlasting Gaze" if you are wondering. Anyway, this unique amulet is not really needed. You can actually wear a rare amulet with + to level of spells, increased cast speed, and maximum mana.
The only reason to wear The Everlasting Gaze is if you're not fine with having zero energy shield, particularly when allocating the Eldritch Battery keystone as part of your build.
Have '+ to Level of All Spells' Wherever Possible
Spells in Path of Exile 2 gain a significant damage boost if they go beyond level 20. That is why having "+ to Level of All Spells" is great for any Sorceress Build. You can get this modifier from your weapon (+5) and amulet (+3).
Improve Your Main Skills with GMPs
PoE 2 Gemcutter's Prisms (GMPs) allow you to increase the quality of your skill gems. If you have enough currency, we highly recommend that you use GMPs on your primary spells. For example, Spark lets you unleash several more projectiles when its quality is at 20%. Archmage provides 2% extra lightning damage on top of the 6% that it's already giving you.
Final Thoughts
Isn't the Sorceress class in Path of Exile 2 so amazing? Whether you want to manipulate time to your advantage or deal heavy amounts of damage with spells, the Sorceress can do that to a great extent!
The Spark Stormweaver defeats the Ice Nova Chronomancer and Lightning Warp Stormweaver builds by a considerable margin. However, the two latter options are fun to play thanks to the careful utilization of certain mechanics.
So, there you have it! I hope that you've enjoyed this article and that you've gained some useful information about getting the most out of a Sorceress Build. Leave us a comment if you need help with anything, we'd be glad to assist you!
