There are certain builds in Diablo II: Resurrected that specialize only in one thing, but they do it in such a way that no one else can. The Gold Find Barbarian is such a build that is only meant to farm D2R gold and not much else.

Be that as it may, it excels on that front, which is why I am going to talk about it today. If you are interested, join me as I talk about the Gold Find Barbarian’s necessary skills, items, and important breakpoints.

How Does the Gold Find Barbarian Work?

Sometimes referred to as the “GF Barb,” the Gold Find Barbarian is the only go-to build in Diablo II: Resurrected for extreme gold farming. The reason is that the Barbarian is the only class in the game that can wield a couple of one-handed weapons at the same time.

That is a crucial bit of information because you will be using the Grief Phase Blade as your main hand weapon and another Phase Blade that is populated with six Lem Runes in the other.

Aside from that, the Barbarian has the ever-useful Find Item skill, which allows him to loot the corpse of a slain enemy for a chance to gain additional items that didn’t drop the first time.

Unlike other D2R builds that can farm the new Colossal Ancients in D2R Season 13, the Gold Find Barbarian has a pretty strict loop, where his only purpose is to defeat The Council Members in Travincal (Act 3) to gain huge amounts of gold per hour.

If you are asking what you’re going to do with all of the gold you have accumulated with this build, you can actually spend that to gamble for items. This is a great way for you to get those rare amulets with +3 skills, rings with 10% FCR, or the new unique items introduced in the Reign of the Warlock DLC.

Stat Allocation

Berserk Variant

  • Strength: 88 or 103
  • Dexterity: 136
  • Vitality: Put the rest of the points here
  • Energy: None

The stat allocation of the GF Barb is a bit skewed towards a higher dexterity over strength because of the fact that you’ll be wielding a couple of Phase Blades during your gold-farming Travincal runs. Phase Blades, for those who do not know, require at least 136 DEX to equip.

For strength, it all depends on what chest armor you are going to use as a base for the Enigma Runeword. The Mage Plate needs only 55 STR to wield, but provides lower defense values than the Archon Plate. The Archon Plate, on the other hand, gives a huge boost in defense at the cost of a higher STR requirement.

As to why you need at least 88 points on STR, this is so that you can equip the Goldwrap, which is a crucial item for the GF Barb to acquire a higher amount of gold per run.

War Cry Variant

  • Strength: 103
  • Dexterity: 42
  • Vitality: Put the rest of the points here
  • Energy: None

The War Cry variant of the Gold Find Barbarian is a bit tankier due to the fact that you have more points on Vitality compared to the Berserk Version. The 42 points allocated on DEX are primarily to equip the Blade of Ali Baba, which is a budget one-handed weapon that grants extra gold from monsters (and gets better the higher your level is).

Skill Breakdown

Berserk Variant

Berserk Variant Skill Tree
  • 20 points on Find Potion
  • 20 points on Howl
  • 20 points on Battle Orders
  • 20 points on Berserk
  • 19 points on Blade Mastery
  • 1 point on Find Item
  • 1 point on Shout
  • 1 point on Battle Command
  • 1 point on Increased Stamina
  • 1 point on Iron Skin
  • 1 point on Increased Speed
  • 1 point on Natural Resistance
  • 1 point on Bash
  • 1 point on Leap
  • 1 point on Stun
  • 1 point on Concentrate

The Berserk variant for the Gold Find Barbarian allows you to destroy enemies yourself without relying too much on your Mercenary (though he still plays a crucial role).

Basically, you use Leap or Teleport (from Enigma) to go from the Travincal Waypoint all the way to The Council Members. After defeating The Council, log out, get into the game, and do the loop all over again.

If you don’t have the Grief Phase Blade yet, your damage is going to be sub-optimal for this farming loop. Hence, you use Howl to separate the enemy from the pack and then dismantle them one by one.

Now, as you may have noticed, you should only put one skill point on Find Item and max out Find Potion. The rationale behind this is that Find Potion actually makes Find Item better at obtaining loot from corpses (aka “Horking”). This bonus synergy is not reflected on the stat sheet, but it is there and can be felt even more at Find Potion level 20.

War Cry Variant

War Cry Variant Skill Tree
  • 20 points on Howl
  • 20 points on Taunt
  • 20 points on Battle Cry
  • 20 points on War Cry
  • 20 points on Find Potion
  • 1 point on Find Item
  • 1 point on Increased Stamina
  • 1 point on Increased Speed
  • 1 point on Iron Skin
  • 1 point on Natural Resistance
  • 1 point on Leap
  • 1 point on Leap Attack

This particular version of the build maximizes the capabilities of War Cry by putting hard points on its synergistic skills, including Howl, Taunt, and Battle Cry.

To play the War Cry GF Barb in the most optimal way possible, leap or teleport towards the Durance of Hate from the Travincal Waypoint. Yes, you make a beeline to the next dungeon and enter it. Once you are inside, go back out to get to Travincal once again.

The reason why you have to do that is so your Mercenary will be right next to you, allowing you to War Cry nearby enemies for him to kill right away. Take note that because you don’t have high-damaging abilities on this version, you’d have to count on your Mercenary to do the dirty work.

Find Item is still left at level 1 because it is made better by a max-level Find Potion. If you are going to have plenty of “skiller charms” in your inventory, you could reverse that by maxing out Find Item and putting only one point on Find Potion instead. This is because the synergy between Find Potion and Find Item only takes into account the “hard points” allocated on the former.

Breakpoints

The breakpoints to aim for when playing the D2R Gold Find Barbarian depend on what variant of the build you intend to use. For the Berserk Variant, you want to focus on increased attack speed or IAS. You can aim for 19 or 42 for a 10-frame or 9-frame Berserk animation, respectively.

How about the War Cry Variant? You need a Faster Cast Rate (FCR) for this version of the GF Barb. Ideally, you want to achieve 105% FCR for an 8-frame animation of War Cry. If that is not possible with your current D2R Ladder items, then settle with 63% FCR.

So, in summary, here are the breakpoints you need to remember for the D2R Gold Find Barbarian:

  • IAS (Berserk Variant): 19 or 42
  • FCR (War Cry Variant): 63% or 105%

Playstyle

You have to switch weapons often when playing the Gold Find Barbarian in Diablo II: Resurrected Season 13. This is because you will have a different set of weapons for damaging enemies and another purely for improving the amount of gold that you can get when using Find Item.

For the Berserk Variant:

  • Pre-buff you and your Mercenary with Battle Command (twice), Battle Orders, and Shout.
  • Once you have reached Travincal with The Council in sight, cast Battle Cry to weaken their defenses. Follow that up with Berserk and Concentrate until they die.
  • Loot their corpse and then use Find Item on each council member.

For the War Cry Variant:

  • You will pretty much act like a support character to your Mercenary when playing the War Cry version of this build. Therefore, you must cast War Cry often until each member of The Council is defeated.
  • Enter Durance of Hate and then back to Travincal to reposition your Mercenary as needed. This step is not needed when you have Enigma equipped, since you will have access to the Teleport skill.

Whatever variant you end up with, make sure to switch to your other weapon set to maximize the amount of gold you will get.

Gear

Your goal here is to equip your character with items that grant “% Extra Gold from Monsters.” You may have to make some changes if you find yourself dying too often. For the most part, the gear that I will list in this section is the most optimal for the Gold Find Barbarian, and only minor tweaks are needed if you need improvements in certain areas.

Anyway, here are the items to use for the Gold Find Barbarian in D2R Season 13:

FAQ

Can the Gold Find Barbarian Farm Solo Efficiently?

As mentioned earlier in the build guide, yes. However, it can only truly excel at killing The Council members in Travincal for their gold drops.

I Keep on Dying in Hell Difficulty Travincal Runs. What Should I Do?

If survivability is an issue for you despite the changes to your equipment, then you might want to drop down to Nightmare Difficulty. This is only until you have the best-in-slot items highlighted in the “Gear” section.

It is also helpful to farm The Council solo, so as not to make the encounter more challenging than it already is.

Is This Build Viable for D2R Season 13 Endgame Content?

No. The Gold Find Barbarian’s primary purpose is to farm The Council in Act 3 to reach 2.5 million gold in Diablo II: Resurrected.
