Diablo 2: Resurrected , Game Guides

Farming the Hellfire Torch has become quite popular again due to the introduction of the new Warlock Class in Diablo II: Resurrected—Reign of the Warlock. This demon-binding specialist requires a Hellfire Torch of his own, and it’s really nice to be able to get one that has perfect stats.
Having said that, before you can even get your hands on one of the best D2R items in the game, you’d have to get a few special keys, which I will discuss further in this article. This is our Uber Key Farming Guide for D2R Season 13!
Uber Keys in D2R Explained: Key of Terror, Hatred, and Destruction
Uber Keys are essentially your ticket towards fighting the “mini-ubers,” namely Lilith, Uber Duriel, and Uber Izual. These bosses are fashioned from Andariel, Duriel, and Izual, respectively, and they each drop a special key that will teleport you to Uber Tristram. However, that is a topic for another time.
The scope of this guide, really, is about the first three keys of D2R Hellfire Torch farming. These are:
- Key of Terror
- Key of Hate
- Key of Destruction
Obtaining these keys is a chore because of a couple of reasons. First, although you can target-farm them, the keys themselves are not a guaranteed drop. You’d have to fight the same enemy multiple times in order to get one.
Second, you have to defeat the bosses in Hell Difficulty, which also means that they have a much higher HP, with some of them even having immunities to certain damage types. That is why it is essential to have a Sunder Charm in your inventory, especially if you're using a build that deals fire or cold damage.
Key of Terror—The Countess (Act 1 Tower Cellar 5)

The first key we are going to talk about in this guide is the Key of Terror. This can drop from The Countess, which you can find in the Tower Cellar Level 5.
To defeat an enemy, you have to know his/her weaknesses. So, to help you in your fight, here are the stats of The Countess in D2R Hell Difficulty:
- Monster Level: 82
- HP: 6,590-10,984
- Defense: 1,468
- Resistances:
- Physical: 20
- Magic: 20
- Fire: 108
- Cold: 130
- Lightning: 33
- Poison: 20
- Damage Immunities:
- Fire Immune
- Cold Immune
As you can see, The Countess is immune to fire and cold damage. If you’re fighting her with, say, the Blizzard Sorceress build, you’re going to have a hard time. So, it’s best that you invest in a Sunder Charm, particularly Cold Rupture (for cold damage builds) or Flame Rift (for fire-based builds).
Aside from farming the Key of Terror from her, The Countess is a great source for D2R runes as well. You can target-farm her to get valuable runes, such as Ist, Um, and Gul, among others.
Now, to actually find The Forgotten Tower, there is a neat trick that you can do. After teleporting to the Black Marsh, circle the waypoint by moving in a clockwise fashion. This will shorten the time it takes for you to get to the tower, as opposed to going in a random direction.
Key of Hate—The Summoner (Act 2 Arcane Sanctuary)

The D2R community collectively agrees that among the Uber Keys, it is the Key of Hate that’s the most annoying to obtain. Unlike the other keys, where there is somewhat of a definite layout towards the boss, the Arcane Sanctuary always seems to have a random tileset. The only advice I could give you when searching for The Summoner is to use Teleport (from the Sorceress or Enigma) twice to get back to the center.
Having said that, The Summoner is the one that you should kill in order to get the Key of Hate. On average, you have to kill him roughly 30 times to get one key. You may be a bit luckier and get a Key of Hate in far fewer runs, though.
Anyway, here are The Summoner’s stats:
- Monster Level: 80
- HP: 4,265-7,849
- Defense: 1,328
- Abilities:
- Fire Ball
- Fire Wall
- Frost Nova
- Glacial Spike
- Weaken
- Resistances:
- Fire: 75
- Cold: 75
- Light: 75
- Damage Immunities: None
Even though it is a chore to find him, The Summoner actually is not immune to any damage type, which means that you don’t have to break damage immunities whatsoever. He does have high elemental resistances, so you have to beef up your damage if your build happens to deal either fire, cold, or lightning damage.
Other than the Key of Hate, there’s no other reason to farm The Summoner. He’s just so annoying! Let’s proceed with the last key, which is…
Key of Destruction—Nihlathak (Act 5 Halls of Vaught)

Ah, Nihlathak. Everyone loves this particular boss for Uber Key Farming because he gives a ton of XP when killed. But make no mistake, this frail-looking summoner has some pretty devastating abilities under his kit!
Chief among them is Corpse Explosion. When you fight this dude, he will have a lot of minions for you to kill. Well, those poor demons only serve as a front because the real damage comes from Nihlathak’s Corpse Explosion. Yes, that’s right! It’s the same Corpse Explosion as that of the D2R Necromancer, so expect to receive heaps of physical and fire damage at the same time if you get caught in the blast.
Fortunately, there are a couple of ways to help you combat that. The first is by using any item that has “Slain Monsters Rest in Peace.” Some examples include the aptly named Nature’s Peace and the Lawbringer.
The second is by using the Paladin’s Redemption Aura. This particular skill “redeems” nearby corpses to provide you with some health and mana recovery. If you’re not playing the Paladin, you could go for the Phoenix Runeword on a shield to give you access to Redemption Aura.
Anyway, here are Nihlathak’s stats:
- Monster Level: 95
- HP: 13,345
- Defense: 1,951
- Resistances:
- Fire: 33
- Cold: 70
- Lightning: 33
- Poison: 70
- Damage Immunities: None
How to Find Nihlathak
Although the corpse summoner is popular in Diablo II: Resurrected, it is a bit cumbersome to find Nihlathak in the Halls of Vaught. The good news is that there are visual cues that can help you find the right way. The one that has consistently worked for me is finding the “Eyes.”
When you teleport to the Halls of Pain, take a good look at the walls nearby and search for some red eyes. They are quite noticeable and easy to track.

Now, the reason why you’d search for the red eyes is that it is a telltale sign of where Nihlathak’s direction is. For example, if you’ve found the eyes on the walls to the left, then you can find Nihlahtak in the same direction, so go westward.
Different Map Layouts
In my experience, the Halls of Pain have three distinct map layouts. If you find the “eyes” approach a bit unreliable for you, then this is the surefire way of finding the Halls of Vaught (where Nihlathak resides).
Basically, there is a particular direction that you go to based on the layout of the Halls of Pain. It all starts at the waypoint.
This is the first map layout:

If you see several braziers that emit a bright light, then you will know that you are in the first map layout. That said, the entrance to the Halls of Vaught is situated in the lower-left corner of the map.
This is the second map layout:

When you find that the waypoint is in an enclosed space, then that is a sign that you’re in the second map layout. To find the Halls of Vaught, you simply have to go right until you find the entrance to the Halls of Anguish at the bottom. Once you’re here, you’re actually going to head upward to get to the entrance of the Halls of Vaught. In short, the right location is in the upper-right corner of the map (from the waypoint).
This is the third map layout:

This is by far the easiest of the three, mainly because the Halls of Vaught can be found at the center-bottom portion of the map. Simply head left a little bit until you get to the center and use Teleport until you’ve reached the destination.

Best Builds for Uber Key Farming in D2R Season 13
- Nova Sorceress: Deals huge damage and has good AoE. This build naturally has the Teleport skill, which alleviates the need for an expensive Enigma.
- Hammerdin: Blessed Hammer deals so much more damage due to the new items introduced in D2R Season 13. If you don’t have access to Enigma yet, this build can use Vigor for that improved movement speed.
- Lightning Fury Amazon: Excels in areas with huge monster density, the Lightning Fury Javazon is built to kill The Countess, The Summoner, and Nihlathak with ease.
- Smiter Paladin: If you just want one build that is great for Ubers, then the Smiter Paladin takes the cake. This build has exceptional single-target damage, perfect for killing ubers and their underlings.
FAQ
How Do You Get Uber Keys in D2R?
You’d have to fight The Countess in Act 1, The Summoner in Act 2, and Nihlathak in Act 5 to get the Key of Terror, Key of Hate, and Key of Destruction, respectively.
How Many Uber Keys Do You Need?
You need about 9 keys in total (three from each boss). The reason for this is that you need to open up three portals that lead to Lilith, Uber Duriel, and Uber Izual. I suggest that you open these portals one after another so that you don’t risk opening a portal to the same area (which occurs when you only open one in every game session).
Do You Really Need Enigma?
In my opinion, yes. This is because the Uber Keys do not drop for you on the first try. You need roughly 30 runs in order to obtain one, so gaining the ability to teleport to your destination cuts your farming time significantly.
