What Can Necromancer Offer To New Players?

Necromancer is a fan favorite for a lot of things. Besides the nostalgia this character can bring to players who’ve played the prior Diablo games, Necromancer brings a whole different vibe to playing the game. If you’re looking for a character that builds around the idea of blood and bone magic in a cunning manner, you’ll definitely enjoy the Necromancer class. 

You probably already know the Necromancer’s biggest and most important skill: raising an army of the undead (and a lot of other useful skills in combat). And *some* players would even compare the Necromancer to the Druid, but unlike the Druid, which can also call nature for companions, you can build the Necromancer to its ultimate potential and reach immortality by strengthening its minions. This, you cannot achieve with any other class.

Because of how its essence works, the Necromancer's damage ability will reward you with lots of XP to jump easily from level 1 to 25. And in this blog, we got you covered with the most important things you need to know, such as the Book of Dead, Skill Tree, Paragons and Aspects, so you can start scaling up!

Build Overview

Initially, you would want to have more corpses than what you have at the beginning of the game. To do this, you need to focus on skills that can increase the amount of corpses you can form and, of course to make them stronger as you scale up in the game. These are your minions, and you’ll have to rely on them to keep you alive.

So for this build, you’ll start with Bone Splinters and Bone Spears. The damage these skills can get will reward you with a lot of essence if paired with the right skills. The more essence you have, the better. 

General Leveling Tips

No matter which class you choose to play the game, make sure to play in World Tier 1 (Adventurer) for a fast leveling experience, yet enjoyable gaming experience. Even if you pull up the smoothest, instant-leveling build in the game, the mode of your game will take the bulk of your time. But if you prefer playing with extra difficulty, that’s okay too! 

Get a mount! A horse will make your travels a lot faster and it’ll save you up a lot of time to spend on killing monsters and leveling up.

Book Of Dead

Under Skeletal Warriors, upgrade Reapers to level 2. The 15% chance of carving a flesh from the enemies to form a fresh corpse (LOL, I know, ironic) is highly valuable in keeping you, the Necromancer, safe from battle.

Next is to upgrade your Shadow to level 2 for an additional shadow bolt for every 6th attack

Lastly, for golems, this is up to your playstyle. You can either upgrade to level 1 blood golem to receive 15% less damage. Or you can upgrade to level 1 bone golem to conjure more corpses. This is all up to your confidence in your survivability, but for this build, we’ll go with bone golem.

Level 2-10 

For the first 9 levels, begin with bone splinters and enhanced bone splinters. This is the skill that makes the most sense out of the 4 skills as you get higher chances of getting essence. 

For the next level, pick bone spear with the enhanced bone spear and the supernatural bone spear (the bone spear skill is great for the first 20 levels, but the next best thing to do is to swap it with blight after reaching the 20th level). 

Next, select Hewed Flesh to get to level 7 and move forward to corpse explosion, grim harvest for the essence generation, and Fueled By Death for that extra damage after consuming a corpse. 

Now that’s 10 levels! 15 more to go, and you’re all set.

Level 11-20

After reaching level 10, you’ll want to boost your skeletal warriors to the maximum level. That’ll be 3 more levels. At this point, your minions are relatively strong with a higher HP, and you’ll start to feel the power of Necromancer. 

Right after, boost your skeletal mage mastery to 3 levels. At this point, you’re already at level 16! To reach to the next point of the skill tree, you’ll need to pick the Enhanced Corpse Explotion just to get the most out of the explosion skill.

After all the skills your minions have earned, select Necrotic Carapace to increase your survivability.

For the next 2 levels to reach level 20, select Reaper’s Pursuit to increase your movement speed whenever you damage enemies with Darkness Skills. Next, select Gloom to increase Shadow Damage to the enemies either inflicted by you or your minions.

At this point, you’re already at level 20. And we’re going to circle back to that. Simply go back to your Core & Darkness Skill, and select Blight, Enhanced Blight, and Supernatural Blight. Then, deselect your Bone Spear, Enhanced Bone Spear, and Supernatural Bone Spear. 

Going back to Blight is actually a genius move because as you reach level 20, you make use of your Reaper’s Pursuit, and Blight is shadow damage.

Here’s what’s it’s going to look like, in simple terms:

When you deselect the 3 Bone Spear skills, you’ll go back to level 17. So, select Blight, Enhanced Blight, and Supernatural Blight. Again, this will make your Darkness Skill more powerful. 

Level 21-25

Moving on to the last 5 levels, select Blighted Corpse Explosion. This upgrade is highly valuable as you scale up in the game. The Blighted Corpse Explosion turns into a Darkness Skill, so instead of exploding corpse, you’ll get extra Shadow Damage for 6 seconds and movement speed.

Next, select Bloodmist, Enhanced Bloodmist, and Ghastly Blood Mist – providing more corpses and an extra buff to your immunity. 

And to finally reach level 25, select Army of The Dead to get one ultimate skill.

Aspects and Gems

We’ll never forget to add aspects! Adding aspects will buff your character up and eliminate the negative effects of the skills (if there’s one).

For your amulet, search for “blood mist” and then select the Aspect of Explosive Mist . This reduces the cooldown of Blood Mist when it detonates a corpse.

For your first ring, search for “blood mist” again and select Blood-Soaked Aspect. This aspect gives you extra shadow damage and boosts your movement speed. Remember the Bloodmist Skill that reduces your movement speed to 20%? This aspect will counter that negative effect.

Here are some gems you can use for each slot type:

Jewelry: Skull for Resistance
Armor: Ruby for Maximum Life
Weapon: Emerald for Critical Strike Damage to Vulnerable Enemies

Weapon And Gear Choice While Leveling

Prioritize having a weapon with a higher damage. 1-handed weapon coupled with a shield increase your main-hand weapon up to 80%.

Other things to keep in mind: 

• The amount of damage you cast among vulnerable targets

• Critical Strike Chance and Damage

• Lucky Hit Chance

Diablo 4 is a very challenging game, and it all depends on how tactical you want to be. The unique skill set of each class will either make or break your character, so choose a set of skills that will guarantee a smooth journey to the endgame. 

For Necromancer, it’s important to keep in mind a couple of things: 1. Make a lot of minions 2. Make them strong 3. Get as much damage as you can.
