Grinding Gear Games has introduced quite a number of new unique items in Path of Exile: Affliction. Although some of these uniques can drop from anywhere, there are certain items that can only be acquired through Grand Heists and the beloved returning mechanic, Ultimatum!
In this guide, you will learn what the new unique items can do and how they can enable certain builds to function. So, without further ado, let's get started!
New Uniques in 3.23 Affliction
Nametaker
- (20-40)% Increased Critical Strike Chance
- 2% of Physical Attack Damage Leeched as Life
- 2% of Physical Attack Damage Leeched as Mana
- Hits with This Weapon Have +10% to Critical Strike Multiplier per Enemy Power
- 5% of Leech from Hits with This Weapon is Instant per Enemy Power
The Nametaker is a unique one-handed sword that you can acquire by beating the unique monsters in the Viridian Wildwood. This is a pretty good weapon to use for those builds that require you to be up close and personal with the enemy, such as Flicker Strike or Cyclone Slayer.
It uses the "Power System" mechanic of warcries in that Enemy Power that can be gained depends on the rarity of the monster you are fighting. The values are as follows:
- Normal (white) monsters: 1 Power
- Magic (blue) monsters: 2 Power
- Rare (yellow) monsters: 10 Power
- Unique (orange) monsters: 20 Power
The Nametaker encourages you to dive right into the thick of things as it provides you with considerable life and mana leech to improve survivability, as well as a critical strike multiplier that should give you enough damage to decimate anything that comes your way.
Ixchel's Temptation
- +(10-15) to All Attributes
- Adds (7-10) to (15-18) Chaos Damage to Attacks
- Adds (9-12) to (19-22) Fire Damage to Spells
- +(15-20)% to Global Critical Strike Multiplier
- +(80-100) to Armour
- +(30-35) to Maximum Energy Shield
- +(25-30) to Maximum Life
- +(20-25) to Maximum Mana
- +(8-10)% to All Elemental Resistances
- (6-8)% Increased Attack and Cast Speed
- Maximum Quality is 200%
Ixchel's Temptation is a rather unique Gold Ring. When you look at its stats, you will find a bunch of random modifiers put together. However, what makes it stand out is its unique effect where the item's maximum quality is 200%. This takes full advantage of the new Tainted Catalyst in 3.23 Affliction League where you can increase the quality of a Corrupted Ring with each use.
Now, the modifiers that will be improved with each Tainted Catalyst are completely random, so you could say that this is a way of gambling some Tainted Catalysts to get the best values.
Although this ring warrants your attention, Ixchel's Temptation is a bit difficult to acquire because you have to beat the Trialmaster himself for a chance to obtain it.
Pragmatism
- +12 to Level of Socketed Skill Gems
- (80-120)% Increased Armour
- +(60-100) to Maximum Mana
- -2 to Level of Socketed Skill Gems per Socketed Gem
The theme of the Affliction League seems to encourage builds to use far fewer socketed gems in order to take full advantage of the new unique items. One of those items is Pragmatism – a unique Colosseum Plate that increases the level of socketed skill gems by 12. There is a catch, though, in that the socketed skill gem has its level reduced by two for every gem you have inserted into Pragmatism.
Pragmatism is ideal for spell skill gems because they increase in power exponentially the higher their levels are. Although this body armor opens up exciting new possibilities, you can only obtain it by defeating the King in the Mists – the new boss that you can fight in the Viridian Wildwood.
The Burden of Shadows
- Socketed Gems Are Supported by Level 1 Lifetap
- (20-30)% Increased Cast Speed
- Lose 500 Life per Second
- Spells Deal Added Chaos Damage Equal to (15-20)% of your Maximum Life
Another unique item that can drop by defeating the King in the Mists, The Burden of Shadows is a great two-handed staff that you can use for life-stacker builds. Couple this with Dissolution of the Flesh and you have a character that can deal absolutely insane amounts of damage without worrying about that "Lose 500 Life per Second" penalty.
The Trickster's Smile
- (60-100)% Increased Armour and Evasion
- Reflects 100 Cold Damage to Melee Attackers
- Reflects 100 Fire Damage to Melee Attackers
- Reflects 100 Lightning Damage to Melee Attackers
- When an Enemy Hit Deals Elemental Damage to You, Their Resistance to Those Elements Becomes Zero for 4 Seconds
The Trickster's Smile is perfectly suited for Animate Guardian builds. This thing has a unique effect where enemies that deal fire, cold, or lightning damage will have their resistance to those elements reduced to zero for several seconds. When you have an animated guardian that uses the Trickster's Smile, you can have a pretty tanky and reliable minion that follows you around wherever you go.
The Flawed Refuge
- (100-150)% Increased Armour and Evasion
- +15% Chance to Block
- You Take 100% of Elemental Damage from Blocked Hits
- 40% of Elemental Damage from Hits Taken as Physical Damage
You might be looking at this unique Maple Round Shield and thinking that its downside, particularly "You Take 100% of Elemental Damage from Block Hits," just makes it too hard to recommend, but that is just far from the truth.
The Flawed Refuge provides a significant boost to your block chance and that is something that cannot be ignored. And yes, while you do take 100% elemental damage from blocked hits, 40% of that is converted to physical damage. This means that if you are using a very tanky build, the shield's negative effect is a non-issue.
Gamblesprint
- +(30-40) to Dexterity
- (100-150)% Increased Armour and Evasion
- +(20-40)% to Lightning Resistance
- When Hit, Gain a Random Movement Speed Modifier from 40% Reduced to 100% Increased Until You're Hit Again
Gamblesprint is befitting its name because of its unique effect. When you are hit while wearing these boots, you gain a random speed modifier anywhere between 40% (reduced) to 100% (increased) until enemies hit you again.
This new unique item introduced in 3.23 is mainly used for farming, but that assumes that you're fine with its rather peculiar mod.
The Untouched Soul
- +40 to Maximum Life for Each Empty Red Socket on Any Equipped Item
- +225 Accuracy Rating for Each Empty Green Socket on Any Equipped Item
- +40 to Maximum Mana for Each Empty Blue Socket on Any Equipped Item
- +18% to All Elemental Resistances for Each Empty White Socket on Any Equipped Item
In Path of Exile, you need to cap your elemental resistances if you want to survive the game's harder content. This can be done by putting some elemental resistance mods on your gear. However, the problem with this approach is that you could be rolling for more offensive modifiers instead of resistances if you're able to cap them to 75% somehow. That is where this next unique item in Patch 3.23 Affliction comes in.
The Untouched Soul is an amulet that provides different bonuses depending on the color of the empty sockets you have on your equipped items. For instance, if you have a few pieces of gear with white sockets, you can forgo some gems socketed into them to take advantage of that "18% to all Elemental Resistances" bonus.
If your build uses plenty of "extra" gems that really do not matter to your build, you can remove them from your gear to get even better bonuses from The Untouched Soul.
The Adorned
- (50-150)% Increased Effect of Jewel Socket Passive Skills Containing Corrupted Magic Jewels, if Not from Cluster Jewels
Okay, this is a rather interesting unique item. The Adorned is a Crimson Jewel that effectively increases the effects of corrupted Magic Jewels you have on your passive tree by up to 150%. Magic Jewels are those that have blue-colored text.
The reason why The Adorned is overpowered is that a perfectly rolled one makes Magic Jewels even better. For those who don't know, Magic Jewels can easily be rolled using Orb of Alteration. Also, the corrupted jewel makes it so that you get another useful implicit mod, such as corrupted blood immunity or increased maximum life.
The Adorned is definitely something worth considering, especially if you're more comfortable using Magic Jewels as opposed to Rare or Unique ones.
That Which Was Taken
- 4 Random Charm Modifiers
If there is any new unique item that you need to get your hands on this league, That Which Was Taken is definitely a strong contender.
That Which Was Taken is a unique jewel that can roll any four random Charm modifiers, which means that it can unlock a lot of amazing build possibilities. What's more, some of these mods are taken from passives on the Ascendancy trees in Path of Exile.
Some of the juicy mods that you can expect to get from this unique jewel are:
- 30% Chance to Gain an Endurance Charge When You Are Hit
- Critical Strikes Have Culling Strike
- % Chance to Gain 25% of Non-Chaos Damage with Hits as Extra Chaos Damage
- +16% to Critical Strike Multiplier Against Burning Enemies
- 40% Increased Critical Strike Chance Against Shocked Enemies
- Gain 10% Increased Attack Speed for 20 Seconds When You Kill a Rare or Unique Enemy
- Projectiles Gain Damage as They Travel Farther, Dealing Up to % Increased Damage with Hits to Targets
- % Increased Area of Effect if You've Killed Recently
- Enemies You Kill That Are Affected by Elemental Ailments Grant % Increased Flask Charges
- % Chance to Gain Phasing for 4 Seconds on Kill
- +4% to Chaos Resistance per Endurance Charge
- Adds 8 to 20 Physical Damage if You've Dealt a Critical Strike Recently
- (130-160)% Increased Critical Strike Chance Against Enemies on Full Life
- (31-40)% Increased Effect of Non-Damaging Ailments You Inflict with Critical Strikes
- (4-5)% Chance to Throw Up to 4 Additional Traps
- (26-40)% Increased Effect of Onslaught on You
That Which Was Taken is definitely a must-have, especially if you can grab one that has modifiers that can benefit your build.
New Replica Uniques in 3.23
Replica items are based on certain normal unique items with vastly different effects and functionalities. They can only be acquired via Grand Heists and some of them are quite rare that you need to do these heists repeatedly for a chance to obtain them.
Replica Badge of the Brotherhood
- Your Maximum Endurance Charges is Equal to Your Maximum Frenzy Charges
- (20-25)% Chance to Lose a Frenzy Charge When You Use a Travel Skill
- (7-10)% Increased Cooldown Recovery Rate of Travel Skills per Frenzy Charge
- +1 to Maximum Fortification per Endurance Charge
- (20-25)% Chance to Lose an Endurance Charge When You Gain Fortification
With the removal of alt-quality gems in 3.23, builds that use Divergent Trauma Support have been pretty much obliterated in PoE. If there's any consolation, you could use the new Replica Badge of the Brotherhood to salvage any build that you may have in mind that uses the said support gem.
Replica Badge of the Brotherhood, unlike its normal version, makes your maximum Endurance Charges equal to your maximum Frenzy Charges. Besides that, you gain plus one to your maximum Fortification stacks per Endurance Charge. So, with this amulet equipped, you can put Fortify Support to take advantage of the higher number of Fortification stacks you can get. Fortification, if you're not aware, reduces the damage you take from hits by 1% per stack.
Now, you do have the option of using this amulet in conjunction with Arn's Anguish, though you will lose the increased maximum Fortification stacks mod as a result. However, this is a fair compromise given that this combo enables you to deal quite a lot of damage.
Replica Covenant
- Socketed Gems Are Supported by Level 29 Added Cold Damage
- +(20-30) to Intelligence
- (210-250)% Increased Energy Shield
- 10% Increased Maximum Life
- Skills Gain a Base Energy Shield Cost Equal to 200% of Base Mana Cost
The normal Covenant body armor provides you with a Level 29 Added Chaos Damage Support gem, which is great if you want to go for Poison SRS builds. However, this new replica version gives added cold damage instead.
The Replica Covenant is almost similar to the original one, albeit you get Level 29 Added Cold Damage support for free. However, its downside is essentially doubled in that you now have to spend energy shield equal to 200% of the skill's base mana cost as well.
For example, if your main skill gem requires 10 mana to cast, you will need to spend 20 energy shield if you wear the Replica Covenant as well.
You can try to utilize Replica Covenant in a different way, though. Rather than casting a costly skill gem yourself, you can opt to use the Animate Guardian for this one.
Replica Heatshiver
- (80-100)% Increased Evasion Rating
- 60% Increased Mana Regeneration Rate
- +(20-30)% to Cold Resistance
- +(20-30)% to Lightning Resistance
- Gain 1% of Lightning Damage as Extra Cold Damage per 2% Shock Effect on Enemy
The Replica Heatshiver works differently from its normal counterpart. With this helmet equipped, you gain 1% lightning damage as extra cold damage per 2% Shock Effect on the enemy. Utilizing the Overcharge Support gem helps you get the most benefit from the Replica Heatshiver's unique effect.
If you're playing builds that primarily deal lightning damage, such as Lightning Arrow and Spark, then picking the Replica Heatshiver up is definitely a viable option.
Replica Hyrri's Ire
- +30% Chance to Suppress Spell Damage
- +(40-50) to Dexterity
- (140-220)% Increased Evasion Rating
- 25% Increased Shock Duration on Enemies
- (12-18) to (231-347) Added Lightning Damage with Wand Attacks
Replica Hyrri's Ire is quite an appealing option for the Spark Inquisitor and other builds that deal lightning damage with wands. You see, unlike the regular Hyrri's Ire where your bow attacks get an added cold damage bonus, your wand attacks with the Replica variant are granted additional lightning damage instead.
That's not all! Replica Hyrri's Ire increases the duration of the elemental ailment "Shock" on your enemies by 25%. In terms of defenses, this body armor provides a whopping 30% spell suppression chance, which is quite unbeatable for a single wearable item.
Replica Hinekora's Sight
- +(600-1000) to Accuracy Rating
- +(600-1000) to Armour
- +1% to All Maximum Elemental Resistances
- You Cannot Be Maimed
Replica Hinekora's Sight is a great alternative to the original Hinekora's Sight. Although you lose the "Prevent +3% of Suppressed Spell Damage" mod, this thing replaces that with an even better mod, "+1% to All Maximum Elemental Resistances."
On top of that, you cannot be maimed while you have this unique amulet equipped, which means that enemies cannot reduce your movement speed.
Replica Witchfire Brew
- (-10-10)% Reduced Charges per Use
- Grants level 21 Vulnerability Curse Aura During Effect
The Replica Witchfire Brew is great for builds that do physical damage like the Cyclone Slayer. Instead of granting you a Level 21 Despair Curse aura from the original Witchfire Brew, you get a Level 21 Vulnerability Curse that makes affected enemies take up to 30% physical damage.
