OSRS Eadgar's Ruse Quest

Starting off

-Sanfew, who resides on the top level of the herb shop in Taverley, is the person to speak with to begin
the quest (if enhancing Herblore, use before talking to him) (ask general questions, then ask if he has
any work for you option 1). In order to carry out the following step of the Druid's circle's purification
ceremony, he will ask you to discover the herb goutweed's secret. Sanfew will advise you to speak with
his friend Eadgar, who lives close by at the top of Trollheim and is knowledgeable of the goutweed that
only the trolls in the Troll Stronghold are aware of.
-It is safe practice to check the quest journal after each step to ensure you have completed each task.
This may save you an extremely frustrating long walk or two.

Getting to Trollheim

-Items required: Food, armour and climbing boots.'
-Recommended:'An Ardougne teleport (tablet)|Ardougne teletab, Prayer Potions or Super Restores, and
one of a Slayer Ring, a Dramen Staff, a Combat bracelet or a Games necklace.''
-Note:' Failing the obstacles, though uncommon, deals 1-5 damage, depending on your current HP.
'-Burthorpe Route - Use one of the ways in the picture to travel to Trollheim. If you have a battle
bracelet or a games necklace, teleport to the Warriors' Guild or Burthorpe Games Room, respectively,
and then leave Burthorpe by taking the mountain road to the northwest. When the trail splits, head
south toward Tenzing's home. You can get climbing boots from Tenzing here for 12 coins if you don't
already have some. Put on your climbing gear and proceed north after climbing over the stile in his
backyard. Climb over the rocks at the next fork, continue down the trail, and turn east at the next
junction.

-Utilize the northern Arena Exit gate after passing Dad. Follow the road west, then north, and enter the
cave entrance. Use Protect from Melee if necessary because the aggressive mountain trolls inside can
hit for up to 12 damage. Follow the cave's course, then take the exit to emerge at the east side of
Trollheim's base.

- Secret Door through Rellekka RouteIf using a Slayer ring or a Dramen staff, you must have climbing
boots already as you won't be able to reach Tenzing from this path.'' Use the Fairy ring with (code
Fairycode|ajr) to teleport outside the Dungeon door for the Slayer ring path, or teleport to the
Fremennik Slayer Dungeon. To get to a little passage, turn northeast and climb over some rocks
(climbing boots required).
-If you want to get to Eadgar's Cave quickly while utilising agility shortcuts, proceed east down the trail
and take the Burthorpe route from here ("This is the quickest way to get to Eadgar while using agility
shortcuts"). Otherwise, go north to the Secret Entrance, which will take you to the Troll Stronghold's
bottom level. In order to reach the stone stairs in the northeast corner, proceed north down the
corridor while passing the jail cells and sleeping guards.

-Open the door, then re-climb. You will now be on the Stronghold's higher level. From here, run south-
east to the base of Trollheim on the west side by following the passage south until you see the exit on

the east wall, leaving the Stronghold.
-Note: If you take this route, you can head to the kitchen and speak to the troll cook Burntmeat in
advance. This will save you the step of needing to speak to Eadgar twice

Meeting Eadgar

-Important information: You must save Eadgar if you didn't do so during the Troll Stronghold task. He is
housed in the Stronghold's prison. Berry the sleeping guard should be pickpocketed for the cell key. He
will be in the Trollheim cave up on the hill once you have saved him. (Eadgar will still be in the cell even
if you rescued him. If Berry won't give you the Cell key 2, you've already set Eadgar free. As an
alternative, you can check your quest log; if you've already saved Godric and Mad Eadgar, it will say so
there.)
-Climb to the top of Trollheim, then while circling the base from the east, use Protect from Missiles to
avoid being hit by the 10-point throwing trolls (Trollheim). Only the west side of the mountain may be
hiked up, therefore if you don't have 44 agility to take the first agility shortcut, you must travel around
the foot of Trollheim past the throwing trolls. Alternately, you can use the agility shortcuts to go to the
top; however, using these will cost you 47 Agility. Protect from Missiles is not necessary if taking the
Slayer ring/Dramen staff path, according to this statement. On the southern side of Trollheim's peak,
there is an unmarked cave entrance. Go into the cave and discuss goutweed with Eadgar. He will advise
you to get in touch with the Troll Cook.

The troll cook

-Leave Eadgar's cave, descend the hill, and turn south-west to enter the Troll Stronghold. The level 69
Trolls outside can hit for 11, so use Protect from Melee to avoid getting hurt. Go south once inside the
stronghold before going down the stairs. There are four Troll Cooks present, one of them goes by the
name of Burntmeat. In exchange for a person to cook in his stew, he will offer to inform you about
goutweed if you speak to him. * Consider doing the first section of the Troll Romance quest while in the
area (the three trolls are just to the north-west of the kitchen). Go back and talk to Eadgar. He will have
a quick think and then come up with a plan...

a quick think and then come up with a plan...

-Eadgar will claim that he requires a parrot to deceive the trolls into believing that you have handed
them a human. Visit the zoo in Ardougne and meet Parroty Pete near the wolf cage in the northern
section of the zoo. He will respond to either of the two queries by telling you that pineapple chunks are
their preferred food and that vodka will make them sloppy. Do not unintentionally consume any
pineapple pieces or vodka! Use the alco-chunks you created by right-clicking your pineapple chunks and
your vodka to open the aviary hatch on the western side in the bird cage. When you get a drunk parrot,
you'll let Parroty Pete know that you're taking it to the vet. (Avoid dropping the parrot, as it will take off.
If this does occur, you can speak with Eadgar to have it returned; however, you cannot have it returned
if you haven't already visited him with the parrot.)
- Picking up your logs, tinderbox, grain, raw chicken, pestle, mortar, and unfinished ranarr potion from
the bank while you're in Ardougne is also a good idea.
- Bring the bird to Eadgar. You need to give it human characteristics such as appearance, taste, smell,
and speech. (These must be completed in that sequence; you may send in the items once the parrot has
been hidden.)
- Use your preferred way to return to Eadgar and discuss the remainder of his plan before moving on to
the next phase.
- On the journey back to Eadgar, if you choose a thistle now, you can dry it over a fire. To find out how to
get a troll thistle, scroll down to the truth serum section.
*'Talk like a human'' - Go back to the Troll Stronghold (location)|Troll Stronghold, and head north
through the corridor, then climb down the stone staircase, and unlock the prison door (no key required),
finally climb down the second stone staircase to arrive at the prison cells. Go a bit further west and hide
your parrot under the rack just north of the cells. Alternatively, use the fairy rings (code Fairycode|ajr}})
or a slayer ring to teleport to the Fremennik Slayer Dungeon and follow the north-east passage to the
climbable rocks, then open the secret door to the north and you will be directly south of the jail cells.
Then, head north until you get to the stone staircase, and then, head west and hide the parrot under the
rack north of the cells.
*:You will come back for the parrot later. Make sure that you check your Quest Log and talk to Eadgar
before teleporting away.
*'''Look/Taste like a human''' - Teleport out of Trollheim and grab your 10 grain, 2 logs, tinderbox, 5 raw
chicken, pestle and mortar, and unfinished ranarr potion.
**Note for Ultimate Ironmen: You can make multiple trips with the items if you do not have the
inventory space available to bring them in one trip.

**Consider doing the middle sections of the Troll Romance quest now to save time running back and
forth.

Truth serum

- '''Recommended:'' Combat gear and supplies for fighting Arrg if returning to complete the last part of
Troll Romance quest simultaneously.''File:Eadgar's Ruse - Troll thistle.png|thumb|220p
- Following completion of all of the above, Eadgar will advise you that in order to prevent Burntmeat
from misleading you regarding goutweed, you must prepare a troll truth potion. Find a tiny troll thistle
growing in one of the grassy spots near Eadgar's hill by keeping an eye out there. You could need some
time, but keep looking. If you can't find it, you might want to world hop and look in the grass to the
north or west of the cave. When seen in the top-left of the game window, The Thistle's name appears in
yellow.
- Once you've located the troll thistle, roast your third log over a fire to produce a dried thistle. There is
a fire in the cave located between the arena and Trollheim in case you forgot a third wood and/or
tinderbox. The thistle should then be mashed using a pestle and mortar. In order to create a troll potion,
combine your unfinished ranarr potion with the ground thistle and Greenman's ale to improve your
Herblore level (if required). (Check your quest journal if your character decides not to!)
- Speak to Eadgar once again. He will remove the potion from you and inform you that the parrot has
had enough by this point, allowing you to return it to the troll prison. It is advised that you bank now
and get some food for the quest's next phase. Return to the prison cells in the Troll Stronghold by using
the Slayer ring teleport or the back entrance to the jail with Fairy rings and the code "Fairycode|ajr"
(bring climbing boots). If you decide against banking, return to the stronghold, then turn north via the
corridor, descend the stone stairwell, unlock the prison door, then descend the second stone stairwell to
reach the prison cells the parrot from the rack, then go back to Eadgar

Getting goutweed

- Eadgar will offer you the Fake man after you have given him the parrot. Give the dummy to Burntmeat
and return to the cooks in the stronghold by going south of the entryway and then down the stairs. He'll
reward you with a slice of burned flesh (which you can discard as it serves no purpose in the quest).
Additionally, he will inform you that the key can be found by looking through the kitchen drawers and
that the goutweed is kept in the storage.
* Consider doing the first section of the Troll Romance quest if not already previously started.
- Once you obtain the storeroom key, descend the stairs immediately to the north after searching the
drawers in the room's southeast corner. The hardest part is coming since you have to slip past the
guards. You'll be thrown back to the entrance if one of them spots you and throws a rock at you, doing
1-6 ranged damage. Protect against Missiles mitigates the harm but does not stop you from being
ejected.
- The troll guards move in recurring groups of four. The best time to click the container with a Goutweed
is just as the two guards who are closest to the door are going to pass one another. There is a 4 tile
window where you can use this strategy, and two of the four cycles should be successful. You can keep
trying since even if you get caught, the cycle does not change, unlike in Sorceress' Garden. If done
properly, this ought to produce a goutweed every two runs. If you want, you can merely click the crate
and try to brute force it; employing this method, players can anticipate getting about one Goutweed

every 5–10 runs method. Keep Protect from Missiles on and carry a few items for replenishing prayer
and energy since you will be moving about a lot and getting tossed out a lot.
- The two easternmost guards are the best indicators of when to relocate to the second safespot if you
want to make use of the planned mechanics. To accomplish this, turn and begin to run as you wait for
one of the two guards to round the northern corner of the boxes they alternately patrol. When this
occurs, immediately run to the second safe area. Keep in mind that the troll with a deeper coloration
that is monitoring the little area of boxes must also be avoided. When the guard who is approaching you
from the north and turning west goes to the west, simply run to one of the safespots next to the crate
and click on it.
- The safespots, which are dead ends encircled by three crates, are the next method for doing this.
Sprint to the first safe area on cue, then wait for the opportunity to run to the second. The placement of
the troll guards will repeat after one or two cycles, so you can use it as a cue to know when to move.
When you have the chance to run to the Goutweed crate and search it, wait at the second safe location.
You won't go to the crate if you just click "seek Goutweed Crate," which will keep you stuck on the
sleeping troll. To proceed, be sure to click on the area next to the crate click Goutweed crate search.
After obtaining one piece of goutweed, you will be expelled. Additionally, it is advised to obtain two
extra Goutweed since it is needed for the quests Dream Mentor and Dragon Slayer II ("'Note:"')). You
must reenter the area because you can only pick up one Goutweed at a time.
-Give the Goutweed to Sanfew back in Taverley to finish the quest.
