here are countless ways to make money in Old School RuneScape, many of which involve utilizing the game's various skills. However, no skill is as consistently profitable as Farming. Unlike other money-making methods, Farming is a relaxed, passive activity where you plant seeds and harvest crops at set intervals. One of the most lucrative methods within Farming is herb runs—a simple yet highly effective way to generate gold with minimal effort. In this guide, we'll explore how to maximize efficiency in herb runs and boost your passive income every day!

If you know everything about the herb runs and patches and just want to see how the run is made you can skip to the "The Perfect Herb Run" section of this guide.

What is a Herb Run?

osrs_perfect_herb_run_1

Herb run is the act of going around to every herb patch in Old School Runescape to plant and harvest herbs. These herbs are extremely profitable since the entire player base actively uses them for money making or to train the Herblore skill.

Planting herbs requires certain Farming levels. The highest level requirement for a herb is level 85 Farming for planting a torstol but do not worry as Torstol is not the most profitable herb to plant. When you plant a herb it takes approximately 80 minutes for it to grow. So you can do a herb run every 80 minutes which is perfect. This 80 minutes is divided up to 4, because the herb grows in 4 different cycles. In each cycle, the herb has a chance to get diseased. The chance of getting a disease gets lower and lower as you increase your Farming level, and there are some patches you can get that are immune to all diseases. If you have a herb diseased you can use a plant cure to cure it or if it is already dead you can use the resurrect crops spell from the Arceuus spell book which requires level 78 Magic. This spell has a chance to revive your dead crops. It has a 50% chance of reviving your crops at level 78 Magic and at level 99 Magic it has a 75% chance of reviving it.

Most Profitable Herbs

You should always check out the most profitable herbs that you can do before you start doing Herb runs. Currently, the three most profitable herbs are:

  • Snapdragons
  • Huascas
  • Ranarrs

You can use a herb calculator to figure out the most profitable herb at any given time or you can take a peek at the Grand Exchange prices and figure it out from there. One quick note, if your Farming level is low you should try to stick with cheaper herbs as the three herbs listed above have pricy seeds.

How to Pickup Herbs Faster

One last thing before we get into the actual method, herb picking. When you click on a herb your character will automatically start picking it up until there is nothing more to pick up. This process is okay but rather slow, especially if you are planning on doing 5-10 herb runs a day. To speed up this process simply spam-click the herb patch until you have 2 herbs in your inventory then stop clicking. This will make it so that your character will pick up two herbs each time instead of one.

The Perfect Herb Run

osrs_perfect_herb_run_2

To do the perfect herb run and get the most profit you must have the following:

  • Magic Secateurs: This item is a reward from the quest "Fairytale 1 - Growing Pains". It will increase your yield from each herb patch by 10%.
  • Completion of the "My Arm's Big Adventure" and "Secrets of the North" quests to access two disease-free herb patches.
  • Completing the hard Kourend & Kebos diaries to make the herb patch disease-free and have a 5% increase in herb yield from the patch.
  • Completing the Elite Morytania diary to unlock the Harmony Island patch.
  • Completing the Elite Kandarin Diary to get 10% more herbs from the Catherby patch. (Hard diary gives 5%)
  • A rune pouch with the following runes: Law, Fire, Mud, and Air. All of this is not necessary but makes it a lot easier to teleport around especially if you are using your house.
  • Having at least level 65 Farming for the Farming Guild patch.
  • Having access to all the best ways of transportation to herb patches as listed above.
  • Getting 16K Colosseum glory to have the Varlamore patch disease-free.
  • Farming Hespori for Anima seeds. Mainly the attas and Iasor seeds. These seeds can only be obtained from Hespori and when planted the attas seed increases your yield from all herb patches and the Iasor seed.
  • Completion of the Twilight's Promise quest to unlock the quetzal landing zone in front of the Hunter's Guild.
  • Having a bottomless bucket filled with ultra compost.
  • Having 99 Farming for the Farming cape which increases your yield from the herb patches when equipped.

If you lack any of these don't worry, you can still do herb runs. It will only lower your profits a little bit per run. Here is how your inventory and equipment should look like before a farm run:

Inventory

osrs_perfect_herb_run_3
  • A stack of your chosen seeds.
  • Rune pouch with your desired runes.
  • Ardougne cape 3 or 4 to teleport to Ardougne farm.
  • Icy and Stony Basalt for teleports to troll lands.
  • Ectophial for Canifis farm teleport.
  • Harmony Island teleport tablets.
  • You can bring along your Quetzal Whistle as well if you have it.

We are not mentioning the equipment required for farming as you should have that stored inside a tool leprechaun.

Equipment

osrs_perfect_herb_run_4

Your equipment should look something like this:

  • Farming cape for more herb yield.
  • Magic secateurs for more herb yield.
  • Charged Xeric's Talisman to get to Hosidius patch.
  • Explorer's ring 3 or 4 for cabbage teleports.
  • Weight-reducing gear (optional)

Optimised Pathing

Now that you are all set let's begin with the run! Follow along with the steps and if you don't have one step unlocked on your account yet simply skip it.

    1. Start your run by teleporting to the Port Sarim Farm by using your explorer's ring. The Tool leprechaun is near the entrance of the farm so pick up your farming tools and your bottomless bucket from him. After that run to the herb patch and start picking up herbs. Once cleared re-compost the patch and plant tour desired herbs.
osrs_perfect_herb_run_5
      1. After clearing out this patch, teleport to the Ardougne farm using your cape. Once there use your already picked-up herbs on the tool leprechaun to note them. After that proceed to pick up the herbs from your patch. Re-fill your patch, note your herbs once again, and teleport to port Phasmatys using your ectophial.
      2. Run to the farm, pick up your herbs, and re-plant them. Once that is done teleport to the Hosidius farm using your talisman.
      3. Note the herbs in your inventory with the leprechaun, and pick up the herbs. Note them once again and re-plant your seeds into the patch.
      4. Teleport to the Hunter's Guild using your whistle or Civitas Illa Fortis using your spell book. If you have used your spellbook simply travel to the Hutners guild using your quetzal. From there run to the farm and pick up your herbs and re-plant them.
      5. Teleport to Catherby or Camelot and make your way to the Catherby farm. Note your herbs then proceed to pick up and re-plant your herbs. After that note them once again.
      6. Use your Stony basalt to teleport to the Stronghold herb patch. Pick up and re-plant your herbs.
      7. Use your Icy Basalt to teleport to Weiss. Note your herbs first then pick up your herbs. After that re-plant and note your new batch of herbs.
      8. Use your teleport tablet to teleport to the Harmony Island. Harvest and re-plant your herbs there and teleport to the Farming Guild either via your house, Farming cape, or skills necklace.
      9. Note your herbs and after that proceed to pick up, re-plant, and note the remainder of your herbs. After everything is done make sure you put back your equipments and bucket to the tool leprechaun and you are done!

This route completely eliminates all the unnecessary running back and forth from a tool leprechaun since we are only using the leprechauns that are right next to herb patches.

Once you are done you can do whatever you want for the next 80 minutes before starting a run from the beginning.
