Among the possible builds you can play in Path of Exile: Mirage, the Kinetic Fusillade Hierophant remains a consistent frontrunner, even after two weeks into the new league. This is primarily because it scales really well into the endgame, with many options to upgrade or change builds later down the line.

If you want to know how to create this build, learn its mechanics, and how to improve it, then read further. This is our PoE Mirage Kinetic Fusillade Hierophant build guide for Patch 3.28!

PoE Mirage: Kinetic Fusillade Hierophant Overview

The Kinetic Fusillade Hierophant is a totem build that establishes powerful totems that fire at a “gatling gun’s” pace. The core of this build is none other than the Kinetic Fusillade, which is an attack-based skill gem that fires projectiles after a short delay. Knowing about this delay is crucial to the build’s success. Let me explain.

You see, Kinetic Fusillade “charges up” the projectiles before firing. This mechanic necessitates the use of the Less Duration Support to cut down the time it takes for the projectiles to get fired toward the enemy.

The skill itself has a 0.7-second delay, with an additional 0.05 seconds tacked on for each projectile. Thus, if you have enough additional projectiles that will amount to six total projectiles, that equates to a full 1-second delay.

If you want to make the projectile-firing mechanic of Kinetic Fusillade (KF) instantaneous, your attack time must be greater than the duration of KF. In other words, you have to attack slower with Kinetic Fusillade for this to occur.

That is because if your attack time is faster than KF’s duration, you’ll be stuck in an endless loop of “charging up.” Fortunately, you don’t have to be a mad scientist to do the math; you simply need to obey the following rules:

  • Don’t invest too much in attack speed nodes
  • Make sure that you get “Reduced Skill Effect” duration, wherever possible

Speaking of which, there are several sources of reduced skill effect duration on this build. They are:

  • Less Duration Support (must have 20% quality using Gemcutter’s Prisms)
  • Window of Opportunity (Notable passive skill) and 10% less skill effect duration (from Duration Mastery)
  • Warped Timepiece (unique amulet)
  • Timeclasp (unique ring). Buy the version that explicitly says “Reduced Skill Effect Duration”

In the endgame, you should invest in a Dusk Ring with good mods that improve your damage output. Dusk Ring is pretty awesome, particularly because it’s a good source of “reduced skill effect” duration, and can be built in a way that addresses your build’s shortcomings (like lack of resistances, damage, etc.).

Although Kinetic Fusillade can be cast yourself, why do you need to put it into Ballista Totems (via Ballista Totem Support)? The answer is actually simple: Putting the Kinetic Fusillade Gem into Ballistae is all about efficiency because the ballista totems are quite effective at dispensing the projectiles.

When you have taken care of the duration problem mentioned earlier, these ballista totems will fire the projectiles like gatling guns (something that is not possible when self-casting).

Another reason why using ballista totems is key to the success of the build is that the totems themselves have an attack speed penalty, which means that it is very hard to screw up the build (unless you are so inclined). Even if you’ve allocated some nodes on the passive tree that increase your attack speed (like “Fusillade”), that will not be a problem at all.

The Kinetic Blast Fusillade Hierophant is nothing new. However, the reason why it has skyrocketed in popularity is due to the change in Patch 3.28, where totem placement speed has been buffed.

In case you don’t know, totems now emerge rather quickly just by increasing your totem placement speed. Fortunately, this is easily done by the Hierophant ascendancy class in Path of Exile: Mirage because he can easily provide a 140% increase in totem placement speed just through the nodes.

Kinetic Fusillade Hierophant: Ascendancy Nodes

This build functions well when you allocate the following ascendancy nodes:

  1. Pursuit of Faith: Increases totem placement speed and duration by 100%. It also increases the maximum number of totems you can summon by one.
  2. Ritual of Awakening: Provides a considerable damage boost while also improving sustainability (both for you and your totems).
  3. Conviction of Power: You get increased defenses through Endurance Charges and critical strike chance from Power Charges.

The last two ascendancy nodes can be allocated on Aul’s Bloodline, specifically the Charge Duration node and Legacy of the King (The King’s Heritage). The King’s Heritage grants increased armor (via Determination aura effect) and fire damage (through Anger).

PoE 3.28 Kinetic Fusillade Hierophant Build: Passive Tree

Prioritize the following nodes:

  1. Totemic Zeal: Increased totem placement speed. The increased attack speed provided by this node is negligible.
  2. Window of Opportunity: 15% reduced skill effect duration. Don’t forget to take the “10% Less Skill Effect Duration” on the Mastery.
  3. Iron Will: Provides additional spell damage based on your total STR.
  4. Divine Judgement: Increased elemental damage. Must have “Fire/Cold/Lightning Damage to Attacks” for this to work.
  5. Primal Manifestation: Increased damage, life, and duration of your totems.
  6. Ancestral Bond: Allows you to summon one more totem.
  7. Sovereignty: Increases mana reservation efficiency, makes fitting three auras relatively easy.
  8. Prism Weave: Increased elemental damage and elemental penetration with wands.
  9. Disintegration: Critical strike chance and critical strike multiplier with wands.
  10. Elder Power: Increased wand damage per Power Charge.
  11. Instability: +1 to Maximum Power Charges.
  12. Disciple of Forbidden: Increased damage per Power Charge.

PoE 3.28 Kinetic Fusillade Hierophant Tips

  • Always have some added cold, fire, or lightning damage on your weapons and rings. This can greatly improve the damage output of your totems.
  • Avoid any “Increased Attack Speed” modifiers, especially if you do not have your totems up and running just yet.
  • For the shield, the Aegis Aurora is preferred in the endgame for providing you with a huge boost in survivability. However, if you don’t mind reducing your defenses a bit, you could go for a Titanium Spirit Shield with more offensive affixes (like spell damage and +1 totem).
  • You can go with Esh of the Storm (from the Breachlord Bloodline) if you want to go all-out on damage. However, this requires you to have “Adds # to # Lightning Damage to Attacks” wherever possible to get the most out of it.
  • The Cord Belt is preferred so that you can anoint either “Watchtowers” or “Surveillance.” Although you can use the Mageblood, you’d have to make compromises on your passive skill tree to account for this change.

FAQ

What Makes the Kinetic Fusillade Hierophant Strong?

Totems are highly effective at dispensing projectiles at the enemy (vs. self-casting the skill). It is also worth noting that totem placement speed has buffed up totems significantly in Patch 3.28.

How do Budget and High-Investment Setups Differ?

Timeclasp and the Warped Timepiece are your go-to items for reducing the skill effect duration of Kinetic Fusillade. In the endgame, you should invest in a Dusk Ring with more modifiers that address your build’s shortcomings (like damage or resistances).

What Are the Common Mistakes When Using This Build?

Not factoring in skill effect duration and the attack time of Kinetic Fusillade. Your attack time should always be greater than the duration of the said skill, so as not to be stuck in an endless “charging up” loop.

Although totems get this covered without thinking too much, you should not invest in “Increased Attack Speed” mods on your gear if you’re still self-casting KF. Once your totems are live, you can skip the complicated calculations by simply slotting in the “Less Duration Support” along with Kinetic Fusillade.
