Throne and Liberty Global Release Date Revealed

9671 0

Throne and Liberty, the action-packed epic MMORPG developed by NCSoft, was first released in South Korea last year. However, the said development company has partnered with Amazon Game Studios to release this game to the global market.

If you are looking for information about this amazing game, then you have come to the right place. In this article, we will provide you with everything there is to know about Throne and Liberty!

Throne and Liberty Global Release Date

Throne and Liberty has been in development for 10 years, but it was only last year that it was launched in South Korea to critical acclaim. The game has been so massive since its release and it continues to be a popular hit to this day.

Even though the game can thrive in a specific country in Asia, NCSoft agrees that it would fare better if it is introduced in other regions as well. So, the company has partnered with Amazon Game Studios to launch the game in other parts of the world, including North America, South America, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, and Japan!

Aside from that, AGS and NCSoft now have an official launch date for this epic MMORPG. Mark your calendars, Throne and Liberty’s global release date is set for Tuesday, September 17! The game will be released simultaneously for PC and next-gen consoles, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Throne and Liberty

Throne and Liberty Open Beta

While Throne and Liberty is expected to launch a couple of months from now, you can actually play the game much earlier than that! How, you ask?

Well, Amazon Game Studios will be holding an open beta for TnL on July 18 to July 23. During this time, you can test some of the game’s content, as well as its features.

Because this is just a testing phase, you are encouraged to try everything that the game has to offer and provide meaningful feedback. This is so that NCSoft and Amazon Game Studios can iron out the kinks (if any) before Throne and Liberty is released globally.

Throne and Liberty Combat Improved

You may have heard some negative reviews about the game, particularly when it comes to its combat. When it was first released in South Korea, the main criticism that a lot of players had was that the game has a very static combat system, where your character stays there while you just spam your abilities.

Fortunately, developer NCSoft has rectified a lot of those issues. Now, the game feels a lot more fluid and dynamic, which translates to a more enjoyable and fun experience.

Main Differences Between Korean and Global Versions

So, you’re probably wondering what the main differences are between the original South Korean version of the game compared to the global version.

The only major difference, really, is that the Korean version will always have the new content first. This includes new regions, bosses, and activities, to name a few.

Do not worry, the global version of Throne and Liberty is going to get whatever content is added in the Korean version, albeit somewhat delayed.

According to AGS, the delay in content is due to the fact that optimizations will be made before it is released in other regions.

It is important to note Amazon Game Studios only acts as the publisher for the global version, which means that the company still has to rely on NCSoft to make actual changes to the game.

Apart from that, you get the same battle pass and paid subscriptions, though it remains to be seen how they are priced in the global version. And oh, the game will still be free-to-play, so you can explore the world of Solisium without being locked behind a paywall.

So, what is in store for you when the game finally launches on September 17? Read further to learn more.

Main Currencies

There are two types of currencies in Throne and Liberty. The first is Sollant, which is akin to gold in other MMORPGs. Sollant is the main currency that you use for just about anything in the game, including services, teleports, and upgrading gear, among many others. You can gain Sollant by doing contracts, events, and Castle Siege.

Sollant

On the other hand, you have Lucent, which is the premium currency of Throne and Liberty. It is not only used as a way of buying items in the cash shop but it is utilized as currency for trading stuff in the auction house as well. Lucent can be earned by completing contracts, selling gear in the auction house, and engaging in guild activities (like GvG and Castle Siege).

Lucent

Morphs

Throne and Liberty lets you explore the vast world of Solisium. Unlike other MMORPGs where you ride mounts to get to where you want to be in a jiffy, things are a bit different in the game.

You see, instead of riding mounts, you actually morph into a specific animal that lets you quickly traverse the air, land, and sea. These animals are also known as the Glide (Air), Dash (Land), and Aquatic (Sea) morphs.

Glide Morph

Dash Morph

Aquatic Morph

Morphing into these creatures is quick and seamless, which means that you can transform in a split second, and then move immediately after. The different morphs allow you to traverse open-world dungeons without a hitch.

Fast Travel

You can quickly go to a town or hunting ground in Throne and Liberty by using the Fast Travel feature. In order to utilize it, you must first activate the waypoints, which are typically situated somewhere near a town or an important area in the game.

Waypoint

After activating the waypoints, you simply open up your map and then select the waypoint you want to fast travel to. Take note that this feature is not offered for free. You have to pay a certain fee every time you use Fast Travel. This can be discounted if you pay for the game’s monthly subscription, Solisium's Blessing.

Gear Basics

Your equipment in Throne and Liberty can be the difference between winning or losing. That is why it is imperative that you upgrade your gear as soon as you have the resources to do so.

There are a few things that you need to keep in mind with regard to gear in TnL. They are:

Grade

When you look at a piece of gear in the game, you will find that they are actually color-coded. This color tells you what grade the gear is. You can refer to the hierarchy below:

White -> Green -> Blue -> Purple (I) -> Purple (II)

The higher the item grade is, the better their stats are. Furthermore, Blue and Purple items can have more Traits than green ones. More about Traits later in the article.

Purple Item

Enhancement

Your equipment can be enhanced from 0 to +9 depending on the limits of a piece of gear. What we mean by this is that there are certain items that can only be upgraded up to a specific point (like +6 only). Upgrading your gear can improve its stats. For weapons, you can expect increased damage per enhancement level.

Gear Enhancement (0 to +1)

Traits

Traits are what make your gear even more powerful. These are enchantments that you can apply to your equipment, boosting it with various effects that it normally wouldn’t have.

For instance, you can apply the “Max Health” enchantment on a greatsword, which is especially useful if you are going to utilize the said weapon in Castle Siege and other activities you can do with your guild.

It is important to note that the Trait System requires an exorbitant amount of currency. That is because you need to extract Traits from other pieces of gear and put them on the item that you want to upgrade the most.

Upgrading Trait Tier on Gear

Weapons

Weapons are a huge part of Throne and Liberty. Unlike other MMORPGs, this game does not have a class system. However, the skills that are available to you are dependent on the weapon you use.

You can wield two weapons at a time, which you can switch with just a press of a button. As you fight enemies, your weapons gain EXP, and once they receive enough, their mastery level increases as well.

Each weapon has three different masteries and it is up to you which one you are going to focus on. Take the Wand, for example. You have damage, recovery, and weaken masteries – each providing you with different stats, bonuses, and utility to suit your needs.

Wand 'Damage' Weapon Mastery

Weapons also have an impact with regard to what skills you can use. For example, Shadow Strike is an active skill that is only usable when you have a dagger equipped.

Shadow Strike (for Daggers Only)

In the next sections, you will find out the different weapon types that are available in Throne and Liberty.

Sword and Shield

The Sword and Shield is the most balanced combo in terms of offense and defense. Hence, it is the preferred weapon for tanks and those who do not want to get decimated in guild wars.

With the Sword and Shield, you have access to abilities like Drastic Charge, which allows you to close the gap with the enemy by charging forward several times. You can heavily improve your defenses with the use of Counter Barrier as well.

Sword and Shield

Greatsword

If you want to hit hard, then the Greatsword is the ideal choice. This is perfectly suited for those who want to get up close and personal with the enemy. While this thing packs a punch, it does come at the cost of considerably slower attack speed. However, if that is not an issue for you, then you cannot go wrong with the Greatsword!

The Greatsword lets you use abilities like Stunning Blow. When used, you unleash an attack so devastating that it can potentially stun an enemy with a successful hit.

Greatsword (aka Longsword)

Dagger

The dagger is a melee weapon that enables you to unleash a flurry of stab attacks on an enemy. If you want to equip a fast-attacking weapon, then you should definitely put the dagger on your radar!

Aside from being able to attack numerous times in quick succession, the dagger lets you inflict status effects like Bind and Poison by using some skills, including the aforementioned Shadow Strike, and the aptly named Inject Venom.

Dagger

Crossbow

In terms of ranged weapons, the Crossbow attacks faster, though this comes at the cost of slightly reduced damage. Moreover, the Crossbow works best when you are a bit closer to the enemy.

One of the abilities that is available to you when you wield the Crossbow is Thorn Gale. This allows you to fire an additional projectile for nine seconds when initiating basic attacks against your foe.

Crossbow

Longbow

If the Crossbow requires you to be closer to the enemy, the Longbow is perfect for long-range engagements. The Longbow attacks noticeably slower, but it makes up for it by dealing quite a lot of damage to enemies unfortunate enough to be at the receiving end.

The Longbow is a great way to provide damage and support, especially when you are firing behind tanks. Use Ensnaring Arrow for a chance to bind a target for several seconds, which is enough for your party mates to take down the threat.

Longbow

Staff

Do you like to cast powerful magic? If so, the Staff is the one for you! This weapon allows you to cast devastating spells, such as Chain Lightning, Ice Spear, or Inferno Wave.

The Staff also enables you to cast magic that provides beneficial effects. Inner Peace, for example, increases your mana regeneration rate significantly for nine seconds.

Staff

Wand and Tome

If you are a team player and you’d rather provide support to your guild mates than dish out damage to the enemy yourself, then the Wand and Tome are the right ones for you! Despite the name, the Wand and Tome only count as one.

Having said that, what skills are at your disposal when you wield this combo? Well, you can heal party members who have been wounded in combat with Swift Healing.

In addition, you can apply powerful curses to prime your enemies for the kill. For example, Time for Punishment allows you to apply a curse on a certain target that decreases their resistance to skill damage for nine seconds straight!

Wand and Tome

Codex

The codex is a collection of quests that you can do in Throne and Liberty. There are three types of codices in the game, namely Adventure Codex, Exploration Codex, and Collection Codex.

Adventure Condex is where your main quests are laid out. Occasionally, there are appendices sprinkled in, which are just minor quests that you can do on the side. Do not worry, these are very simple to do and should not be a chore to accomplish.

Adventure Codex

Quests that involve exploring areas or collecting certain samples as part of the objectives are all found in the Exploration Codex. Typical quest markers for the Exploration Codex are the light blue stars that you can find on the map.

Exploration Codex

Lastly, the Collection Codex houses all of the collectibles that you come across while exploring the vast world of Solisium. Some examples include journal entries and letters from various NPCs.

Collection Codex

Dungeons

As with any other MMORPG, there are plenty of dungeons you can find and conquer in Throne and Liberty. In fact, dungeons are a great way of obtaining endgame gear, though the way you get the loot is a bit different compared to other games in the genre.

You see, every time you clear a dungeon, you will get dungeon points called Dimensional Contract Tokens. These tokens are used to open the reward chests that appear at the end of the dungeon.

If the global version follows the same mechanics as in the OG version, you will earn enough dungeon points to open two reward chests per day and nothing more. Currently, about 900 tokens are reset every day, though this is subject to change in the global release.

Contract Tokens: Dimension

Now, this is not to say that you cannot conquer numerous dungeons if you want to. This just means that you cannot farm dungeons indefinitely if your goal is to obtain the lucrative rewards at the end.

Dungeons are a great way to get your hands on some really cool gear. You might even acquire items that you can use to extract certain traits.

In addition, you will gain crafting materials and enough Sollant to engage in trait enhancements and gear upgrades, should you wish to do them after your dungeon runs. You can farm a considerable amount of Lucent as well.

If you have a relatively geared character, you can run dungeons as they are a good source of EXP. You can complete these areas as many times as you like if you want to level up your weapon masteries as soon as possible.

Here is a brief list of the dungeons that might be available to you once Throne and Liberty Global launches on September 17:

Dungeons List

  • Specter’s Abyss

  • Temple of Roar

  • Cave of Desperation

  • Death’s Abyss

  • Temple of Slaughter

  • Cave of Destruction

  • Cursed Wasteland

  • Butcher’s Canyon

  • Tyrant’s Isle

  • Island of Terror

  • Torture Chamber of Screams

  • Carmine Rage Island

  • Voidwastes

  • Valley of Slaughter

Basics

This game contains plenty of dungeons that suit different needs. There are those that you can complete solo, though you have to be fully geared in order to be successful in your run.

However, in most cases, you will need a party that consists of six members. Ideally, there should be a dedicated tank that will soak most of the damage. Another player must act as full-time support, providing buffs and casting healing spells whenever the need arises. All of the remaining members of the party should act as DPS or damage dealers.

Dungeon bosses in TnL are no slouch. They are not enemies that you can just attack without careful planning because each encounter has certain mechanics that you need to be aware of. Make sure to coordinate with your team to guarantee success.

Types of Dungeons

In Throne and Liberty, there are three types of dungeons. The first is secret dungeons, which are areas that require you to be at a certain level to enter. These dungeons are “instanced,” which means that they are generated only for you or your group. In other words, the only players you will see in instanced dungeons are those who are members of your party. These can also be conquered solo, but you have to be well-equipped if you are to complete them alone.

Secret Dungeons

The second is open-world dungeons. These dungeons can be explored by any player regardless of whether they are in a group or not. The time of day can influence these dungeons in a number of ways. For example, when you enter an open-world dungeon in the morning, these are considered “Peace Zones” where player vs. player combat is not available. However, during nighttime, open-world dungeons in TnL become PvP hotspots. So, if you’d like to farm these areas without other people bothering you, then go visit them in the morning.

The third type of dungeon in the game is the guild raid. These dungeons can only be accessed if you are a member of a guild. Besides that, the guild itself has to be at least level 2 to enter such dungeons. The benefit of joining guild raids is that you can take advantage of guild skills to enhance certain bonuses and loot.

Guild Raid

World Bosses

World bosses play a huge role in Throne and Liberty. They are a great source of gear and resources, so eliminating them when they appear should be of utmost priority.

Having said that, there are two types of world bosses in the game. The first are your regular field bosses, which spawn at certain times of the day, every single day. You can look at the event calendar to see the exact spawn times of each world boss.

Field Boss Schedules

The second type of world boss in Throne and Liberty is the Archboss. Archbosses are quite difficult to defeat. Those who intend to eliminate them must have their equipment, potions, and buffs ready. Otherwise, Archbosses will make quick work of them.

Unlike the regular field bosses that spawn every day, Archbosses only come once a week. At the time of writing, there are only two Archbosses in Throne and Liberty, namely Queen Bellandir and Tevent.

Archboss Tevent

We highly recommend that you defeat the Archbosses when they spawn because they drop some highly-coveted gear. Even if you do not need any of the items they drop, you can sell them for profit in the Auction House instead.

Tevent

Although these bosses allow you to earn some lucrative items, part of what makes them great is the enjoyment of fighting them. You see, these encounters have a “Peace” version, as well as a “PvP” version. Obviously, the former allows you to engage with the fearsome creatures without getting hit by opposing players, while the latter enables other players to hit you while you’re fighting the boss.

Additionally, PvP world bosses are typically surrounded by rival guilds, so expect things to be frenetic if you are caught in the middle of a guild war. Despite this, we still encourage you to join a guild because the benefits you can get far outweigh the negatives.

Contracts

What should you do if you are not taking down world bosses in Throne and Liberty? Well, you do daily quests, of course! Daily quests come in the form of contracts, which can range anywhere from investigating a certain object to eliminating a specific number of enemies.

Contracts (aka Daily Quests)

You can talk to some NPCs in the game like Yohan in the Purelight Tower if you want to get some contracts to accomplish. When you speak to them, you will be given a number of contracts on the UI. After taking one, you’ll be given another set of contracts you can choose from. If you do not like the current selection, you can hit the “Refresh” button once so that you will be given another set of contracts. You can take as many as 10 contracts at a time. These contracts refresh every 00:00 in-game time.

Contract UI

So, why do you need to complete these daily quests? Well, for a number of reasons. Contracts are a good source of crafting materials and “Growth Stones” that you can use to enhance your gear.

Precious Weapon Growthstone

Moreover, the daily quests will award you with some Contract Tokens, which you can use as currency at the aptly named Contract Coin Merchant in Stoneguard Castle.

Contract Coin Merchant

There are also Guild Contracts that you can complete for items and certain benefits. The things that you can gain from these contracts, as well as those in your dailies, can be contributed to your guild to use as resources for guild wars and whatnot.

Guild Contracts

Guilds

Despite the fact that you can be a target of a rival group, joining guilds is something that you must do in Throne and Liberty. There are just so many benefits that you can get just by joining an active guild.

For one, you can gain increased EXP whenever you complete any of the guild contracts available. At level 1, you get a 1% increased EXP bonus, which is improved the higher the level of your guild is.

Guild Benefits

When you join a level 2 guild, you will have access to the guild base, which is an entirely new area that is dedicated only to your group. Once you are here, you enjoy significantly increased life and mana recovery and you’ll be able to fight other members of your guild in friendly combat.

Another major reason why you should join a guild in TnL is so that you can interact with the Guild Merchant. This NPC sells potent health and mana regeneration potions that you cannot find anywhere else.

Guild Merchant

Furthermore, when your guild is at level 10, the Guild Merchant will sell you rare lithographs that allow you to craft certain weapons, provided that you have the necessary materials to create them.

Lithographs (from Guild Merchant)

Conquest Battles

When you are a member of a guild in Throne and Liberty, you will have a chance to participate in Conquest Battles. These battles prompt your guild to engage with another guild in the game to vie for things called Boonstones and Riftstones.

Conquest battles occur every 36 hours. As such, guilds that have occupied these Boonstones and Riftstones in the previous hours must do battle once again if they wish to gain control over these things for another day and a half.

Boonstone

Why are these stones very important? Well, they are crucial to a guild’s success because they not only provide beneficial effects but they also increase the production of resources.

Riftstone

In order to participate in a conquest battle, the guild leader must purchase a Guild Flag from the supplies shop. The NPC is found inside the guild base.

Once the battle commences, the Boonstones and Riftstones must be captured. Only the guild leader is capable of initiating the capture sequence by planting the guild flag. Keep an eye out for an announcement regarding this.

When the capture sequence has begun, you and your guild mates must protect the area around the flag for five minutes. The entire war lasts for 30 minutes, so if you have successfully defended the flag, your guild will be declared the victor!

Aside from the increased production rate and the beneficial effects, these stones allow you to fight world bosses exclusively every day, so long as your guild has control over them.

The gear that drops from the Riftstone/Boonstone bosses can be traded in the Auction House for Lucent, assuming you do not need any of them for your particular character.

Castle Siege

One of the pinnacle content in the game, Castle Siege allows you and your guild to take over the Stoneguard Castle. This event happens every two weeks, so you can enjoy the benefits for a much longer time compared to, say, conquest battles.

Having said that, what can you expect in the Castle Siege? Well, the main objective of this content is for you to fight the Legion or the current guild that has control over the Stoneguard Castle.

The siege has two phases. The Standby Phase, as you can tell, provides you and your guild ample time to prepare for the ensuing battle. Make sure to equip your best gear and stock up on potions because you’ll be needing them later on.

After 15 minutes, the battle will commence. During this time, all members of your guild will be teleported to the nearest town, where you can progress to the Outer Castle, and then slowly make your way inside.

The outer castle is riddled with walls that you can break so long as you deal enough damage. Fortunately, you have golems to help you with that. At certain points in the battleground, there are Golem Slabs that you can interact with to summon these stony creatures to help your cause.

You can transform a golem to do several things depending on your needs. They are:

  • Stone Crasher

    • Can be activated as soon as the battle commences

    • Can destroy castle walls with ease

    • Lasts for 7 minutes

    • Cooldown: 5 minutes

  • Battle Carrier

    • Can be activated 5 minutes after the battle has started

    • Used as transport for allies toward the castle walls

    • Lasts for 4 minutes

    • Cooldown: 5 minutes

  • Gate Hammer

    • Can be activated after 10 minutes

    • Has the power to destroy gates

    • Lasts for 6 minutes

    • Cooldown: 5 minutes

  • Jump Attacker

    • Can be activated immediately

    • Jumps up and unleashes a devastating attack to nearby enemies

    • Lasts for 9 minutes

    • Cooldown: 5 minutes

Golems (Castle Siege)

In certain parts of the castle, there are a couple of zones that you need to be aware of. Plunder Zones, once captured, allow you to loot the accumulated taxes of the castle itself during the entire duration of the siege.

Spawn Zones, on the other hand, act as respawn points for you and your guildmates. Capturing them is a must because any time you are killed while the siege is ongoing, you can just resurrect in the spawn zones shortly after.

To actually win the siege, your guild leader must interact with the Throne, where they will turn into a Usurper. When this happens, you and your guild mates must do everything that is possible to protect the Usurper for at least a few minutes. After that time frame, the castle will be claimed, ensuring your guild’s victory as a result!

The Castle Siege lasts for 45 minutes. In the event that the Throne battle is still in progress, the siege will be extended for three minutes. The battle will no longer be extended after that, so make sure to accomplish the objective.

So, what happens if you win the Castle Siege in Throne and Liberty? Well, your guild is going to be deemed as the Legionnaire. Furthermore, your guild leader can take two or three guilds within the alliance to enjoy the benefits of winning the siege.

As part of the winning guild, you will enjoy a cut of the taxes, which can help you get Sollant for use in other things, such as upgrading gear, teleports, etc.

Your guild leader can also initiate repairs and engage in stronghold management to prepare for the next Castle Siege. You have a couple of weeks to enjoy your victory until you get ready for the next battle.

As for you, your guild members, and alliance members, you will receive boatloads of Sollant and Lucent for your efforts.

Battle Pass

Because Throne and Liberty is a free-to-play MMORPG, the company has to gain some funds in one way or another. Well, as is the case with most online games nowadays, TnL also has a Battle Pass that has a free and paid track.

The Battle Pass contains items, resources, and cosmetic items that you can obtain simply by earning Battle Pass points. You can get some points by accomplishing quests and other objectives that are stipulated in the UI.

Battle Pass

While you can certainly opt to not pay for anything, you can get additional rewards if you get the premium Battle Pass. We still do not have any information regarding the pricing for the global version of the game. But, if AGS is going to base the pricing on the OG server, the Throne and Liberty Battle Pass may cost $20. Take note that this is subject to change once the global version is released in September.

It is also worth noting that the game’s Battle Pass is renewed every month, meaning, you’ll have to pay an additional fee in order to get the new rewards.

Solisium's Blessing

Apart from the Battle Pass, you have the option of paying for the monthly subscription called Solisium’s Blessing as well.

Solisium's Blessing provides you with a ton of benefits, such as:

  • Maximum Tokens of Contract you can hold is increased from 4,500 to 6,000 (at level 50)

  • Free recovery benefits are increased from 3 to 10

  • The ability to summon crafting, storage, and general store NPCs wherever you are

  • A huge 90% discount on teleportation costs

  • Skill quick slots are increased from 3 to 6

  • Amitoy picking speed and range are expanded

  • The sprinting effect while accelerating (in Morphs) is strengthened

  • The visual appearance of your transformation into the various Morphs is strengthened

  • Allows you to purchase exclusive products for Solicium’s Blessing, including:

    • Rare Elixir Selection Box (5 pcs/day)

    • Rare Food Selection Box (3 pcs/day)

    • Excellent Stella Boom x 1,000 (1pc/day)

    • Token of Contract: Dimension x 100 (5 stacks/day)

So, how much does Solicium’s Blessing cost? If we base it on its pricing in the OG server, this paid subscription costs $10 and lasts for 21 days. Again, this is just speculation because the price of Solicium’s Blessing may change in the global release.

  • Processor: Intel Core i5-7700

  • RAM: 16GB

  • GPU: Geforce GTX 1660 or AMD RX 5600 XT

  • Storage: 63GB

Will the Global Version Be on Par with the OG Version in Terms of Updates

Is the Game Play to Win?

To put it bluntly, yes. But, this is not to say that you cannot enjoy the game without spending exorbitant amounts of money. It just means that you can get your hands on better gear without any hassle if you are willing to spend some dough.

Final Thoughts

Throne and Liberty is shaping up as one of the best MMORPGs in 2024. With its eventual release on September 17, Amazon Game Studios, together with developer NCSoft, is committed to providing you with a game that is worth remembering.

The game has plenty to offer from a content standpoint. You can accomplish daily contracts to gain valuable gear and resources. You can participate in guild raids and open-world dungeons to obtain some valuable items.

If that is not enough, you can partake in Castle Sieges every two weeks to earn a lot of Sollant and Lucent that you can use in various ways in TnL.

All in all, we are excited about the global release of Throne and Liberty. The question is, are you?
