The Warlock has the incredible ability to bind demons in Diablo II: Resurrected, allowing him to get a reliable minion that not only can be commanded to kill enemies but also provides buffs that improve his master’s power. With so many demons in the game, though, I know that it is a monumental task to find the best ones.

Fortunately, I have a list of incredible demons that are definitely worth your time. So, if you are interested in knowing what they are, then read further. Today, I am going to talk about the best demons to bind for the Warlock in D2R Season 13!

How to Bind Demons in Diablo II: Resurrected

After purchasing Diablo II: Resurrected—Infernal Edition or the standalone Reign of the Warlock DLC, you will have access to the latest class in the game: the Warlock. This class has the ability to bind demons to his will, turning previously defiant monsters into subservient minions that fulfill his every command. This is possible with the aptly named Bind Demon skill, which is one of the last skills you can find under the "Demon" skill tree.

Here are some quick facts that you should know about the Bind Demon skill:

• You have a much higher chance of binding a demon if you lower its HP below 50%.
• You can only have one bound demon at a time (despite having a level 20 Demonic Mastery). The other minions that can populate the remaining slots are reserved for your other minions, such as the Goatman, Tainted, or Defiler.
• Bound Demons won't disappear even if you log out.
• Bound Demons also do not disappear when entering zones.
• What your level is now will influence the level of your bound demon. If your level is higher than theirs, they will retain the level that they were when you cast Bind Demon on them.
• Skillers, or items that grant "+ to Skills," allow you to reach level 20 Bind Demon sooner than later. Higher Bind Demon skill levels can improve your bound demon by giving it additional bonuses, such as Extra Strong (level 5), Extra Fast (level 10), Spectral Hit (level 15), and Aura Enchanted (level 20).
• Some demons already come with a random aura (aka "Aura Enchanted), so you don't need skillers or a high-level Bind Demon to achieve this. Hephasto the Armorer is a good example.
• If you have bound a demon that does not already have an aura, it will get a random one if your Bind Demon is leveled high enough to provide that "Aura Enchanted" bonus (level 20, to be exact).
• Demons you have used Bind Demon on will have stats that depend on where they were bound. For instance, if you've picked a random demon in Normal Difficulty and you intend to use that demon in Hell Difficulty, they will easily get "one-shotted" because their HP and stats were meant for Normal Difficulty content. Keep this in mind as soon as you enter Nightmare and Hell Difficulties.
• You cannot use Bind Demon on bosses and mini-bosses (like the Countess or Andariel). However, "superunique" monsters, such as The Smith, Hephasto, and Bishibosh, are up for grabs.
• You can log out of the game if you are not happy with the aura the particular demon you want to bind has in a given session.
• Heralds of Terror cannot be bound using Bind Demon.

Reasons Why You Should Have a Bound Demon in D2R

There are a couple of good reasons why you should cast Bind Demon on a suitable monster in Diablo II: Resurrected. The first is that you want to have a powerful ally to fight alongside you. When you’ve bound the right demon, it’s as if you have recruited a secondary mercenary to fight with you.

The second reason for binding a demon in D2R Season 13 is that these allies provide a good combination of bonuses that can improve your favorite Warlock Build.

Having said that, here is a list of useful auras that you could get from bound demons:

• Conviction Aura
• Fanaticism Aura
• Might
• Holy Freeze

Take note that the level of the demon you want to bind influences the level of aura that they have. If you are going to bind Hephasto the Armorer, specifically a version of him that has Conviction Aura, you need to get him in Nightmare or Hell Difficulty. This is so that his Conviction Aura is at a level that can actually deal with a monster’s immunity to certain damage types.

Why? To ensure that his Conviction Aura is powerful enough to reduce the resistances of tougher monsters (like the Doom Knights in Chaos Sanctuary). In most cases, however, a level 48 Demon will suffice. Of course, the higher their level is, the better in this regard.

Best Demons to Bind for the Warlock in D2R Season 13

Vile Mother

Location: Outer Steppes, City of the Damned, River of Flame (Act 4)

As a Warlock, you can only bind one demon at a time. What if you want to establish a sizable minion army? What should you do? If that is the case, then the Vile Mother is an excellent choice!

The Vile Mother can summon up to five Vile Children at a time. They are not only able to deal decent amounts of damage, but can also leech life and mana from enemies.

There are three types of Vile Mothers in Diablo II: Resurrected, namely:

• Flesh Spawner
• Stygian Hag
• Grotesque

The type of Vile Child it can spawn depends on the Vile Mother you have bound. Their names are:

• Flesh Beast (Flesh Spawner)
• Stygian Dog (Stygian Hag)
• Grotesque Wyrm (Grotesque)

Achmel the Cursed

Location: Wave 2 in the Throne of Destruction (Act 5)

Wait, isn’t Achmel the Cursed an undead? Yes, you’re right! However, for some reason, you can actually bend him to your will by using Bind Demon after dwindling his HP to below 50%.

The reason why Achmel the Cursed is one of the best is that he has this unique (and hidden) “Poison Enchanted” affix that allows him to poison nearby enemies. Because he also comes with the “Cursed” affix, he applies Amplify Damage to those enemies as well! This makes him a very good demon to bind for the Echoing Strike Warlock.

A lot of people speculate that the ability to bind Achmel the Cursed is just a bug, which may eventually get fixed with a later update. Until that time comes, Achmel the Cursed is still a pretty awesome demon to get in D2R Season 13.

Urdar

Location: River of Flame (Act 4)

Urdar is a type of Blunderbore that you can find in the River of Flame in Act 4. What makes him great is his ability to inflict a Crushing Blow to the enemy, effectively taking a chunk of their HP with every successful hit.

On top of that, Urdar is generally quite sturdy due to his incredible life regeneration rate. If you could find one that has the “Stone Skin” affix, which grants +50% to physical resistance, then you have a powerful ally in your hands.

Lister the Tormentor

Location: Wave 5 in the Throne of Destruction (Act 5)

Are you looking for a sturdy minion that you can target-farm for your Warlock? If so, Lister the Tormenter is a solid choice!

Lister the Tormentor spawns on the fifth wave in the Throne of Destruction. That is why a lot of people like him because he is very easy to obtain. Of course, a Lister the Tormentor with your preferred affixes is another story.

Aside from being target-farmable, Lister the Tormentor can use Smite and has the power to land Crushing Blows (similar to Urdar). Besides that, this superunique demon has tons of HP and strong resistances against most damage types (except for lightning and physical damage).

Dark Lancer

Location: Frozen River or The Ancients’ Way (Act 5)

If you want a more aggressive demon to fight for you, the Dark Lancer is one of the best. The Dark Lancer is a type of Corrupt Rogue Spearwoman that you can find on the Frozen River or The Ancients’ Way in Act 5.

What makes her special is her ability to deal cold damage, with the potential to freeze enemies using well-placed Jabs and Ice Spears.

Don’t let this spear-wielding vixen fool you with her simple appearance. The Dark Lancer actually hits like a truck!

Her only flaw is that her HP is substantially lower than the other demons on this list. However, this is something that can easily be fixed by binding her in Players 8, and with the “Stone Skin” affix for good measure.

Hephasto the Armorer

Location: River of Flame (Act 4)

Arguably the best demon that the Warlock can bind in D2R Season 13, Hephasto the Armorer is known for his insane damage and ability to survive in longer fights with the Ubers.

Hephasto the Armorer can work with all Warlock Builds in Diablo II: Resurrected. However, he is much better with the Echoing Strike Warlock, particularly when he comes with the Fanaticism Aura and the “Cursed” affix.

He fights enemies in melee range, which ensures that Amplify Damage will always get cast, assuming that he does have the Cursed affix mentioned earlier.

FAQ

I cannot target my Demon. What gives?

If you find that you cannot see your bound demon's information, that is probably because you don't have a skill in your action bar that interacts with them in some way. These skills include Consume, Engorge, and Unsummon.

Placing any of those skills in the action bar, pressing them, and then hovering your mouse over the demon will allow you to see some useful info about your minion (like what effects they have, the aura they provide, etc.). Just make sure to NOT use those skills on your bound demon. Otherwise, they WILL disappear!

Does the monster level of the bound demon scale retroactively?

No. The level of your bound demon is "snapshotted" the moment you have bent them to your will with Bind Demon. So, if you have bound a level 48 Dark Lancer, for example, that Dark Lancer will still be at level 48 even if your Warlock is already at the max level.

How Do I Improve My Bound Demon’s Survivability?

Search for a demon that has the “Stone Skin” affix for starters. If that is not enough, bind a demon in “/players8” if playing solo or be in an actual group full of party members in online play.
