Bone Voyage Walkthrough

Starting Out

Go to the Varrock Museum and speak to Curator Haig Halen. Ask if he has any interesting news. He'll let you know that they've found an interesting island with archeological value north of Morytania. They are currently finalizing the arrangements for the journey, and he has advised you to speak with the barge foreman, who has asked for an experienced and skilled explorer's assistance. Accept to assist, then head over to the Digsite.

The Finishing Touches

Go to the canal barge north of the Digsite. In front of the barge, you'll find the barge foreman; speak to him. They are nearing the end of preparation, but before preparing the crew, he would like to make a few small changes to the barge. To keep the barge afloat, he needs a more durable kind of wood; magic logs won't work because they have strange side effects (which you will discover later). He'll need redwood, an excellent timber available exclusively in the far-off Western lands.

The barge forman will ask you to speak with the Sawmil operator at the Sawmill north-west from the barge.

Go to the Lumber Yard and talk to the Sawmill operator. He has arranged a fairly generous deal between himself and the sawmill in Great Kourend's Woodcutting Guild so you can obtain redwood planks. He will hand you a sawmill proposal and you need to deliver it to the Woodcutting Guild.

Proceed to the Woodcutting Guild in Hosidius by using your skills necklace. If you're an Ironman, you may want to use the Tithe farm minigame teleport instead. You need to have previously entered farmer Gricoller's guild. If not, speak with Veos in Port Sarim. Then, present the proposal to the Woodcutting Guild Sawmill operator before leaving. Try to open the eastern gate to the guild if you don't have the requirements to enter the Woodcutting guild to complete this step. Berry will sign it on behalf of the guild's sawmill operator.

Go back to the Varrock Sawmill operator and give him the agreement.

The Cursed Voyage

Give the lead navigator the sealegs potion and the junior navigator the bone charm when you get back to the barge. Talk to the barge guard so he will let you hop into the barge. On the barge, talk to the Lead Navigator. First, tell him that you are there to help them out. Then he will ask if you know about the previous attempts at the expedition. Choose the first option if you want to know what happened; pick the second option if you want to skip the dialogue.

He will believe that the voyage is cursed. Because of this, he will refuse to sail unless you can ensure the safety of the crew from this curse. He will ask you to talk to some experienced sailors in the Rusty Anchor Inn in Port Sarim.

When he does, go to the Rusty Anchor Inn in Port Sarim via teleport usig an Amulet of Flory (Draynor), Rat Pits Minigame teleport, or Rimmington house teleport. Speak to Jack seagull in the Rusty Anchor Inn. Ask him if he has ever made nay cursed voyages. He will tell you that you need a lucky bone charm, and that you need to talk to the Odd Old Man in Silvarea to get one. Ahab will interrupt and claim that a "potion of sealegs" will have you sail the voyage without suffering from any injury. You decide that you'll ask the navigators which one they'll prefer to have.

Go back to the Lead Navigator. He will want the potion of sealegs. The Junior Navigator, on the other hand, will want the bone charm.

On the north of the Digsite, pay a visit to the Odd Old Man (the rag and bone man) by the Silvarea mine and ask for a lucky charm. Tell him that you're making a cursed voyage to receive it.

Go to Varrock south-west of Varrock Square and talk to the Apothecary (you must select "Talk about something else"). He will require two bottles of vodka and marrentill potion (unf). Talk to him again to receive the potion of sealegs.

The "Cursed" Voyage

Give the lead navigator the sealegs potion and the junior navigator the bone charm when you get back to the barge.

Not surprisingly, the potion has knocked out all but the Junior Navigator. You are going to have to steer the barge now that he has never been on broad waters. Using the interface's controls, you must move the rudder left, right, or straight. You can see how far you still have to walk to reach the island by looking at the progress indicator; deviating from the path too much will slow you down. The crew will wake up if it takes too long, in which case they should just speak with the Junior Navigator to restart.

Tips to get there as fast as you can:

    • Click the right arrow twice to tilt the rudder when the top arrow tilts to the left.
    • Click the left arrow a few times to tilt the rudder when the top arrow tilts to the right.
    • Click on the arrows to center the rudder when the top arrow is generally pointing straight ahead.
    • You can adjust the degree to which the boat sways side to side by adjusting the sail height. You can achieve faster travel when the boat's sails are as large as possible when traveling in a straight line. If the sails are left out fully the entire way, it is possible to navigate to the island.

You will arrive at Fossil Island once the progress bar is filled.
