Looking to get to level 100 in Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict? If you are, then you’ll need the PoE 2 best leveling items to make the journey easier. While there are lots of ways to ensure that you’re getting the most efficient amount of XP in the game, it’s also important to have the right gear and items along for the ride.

PoE 2 Best Leveling Items Banner

First off, we’re going to talk about how you can get some of the best leveling items in the game. You can make the journey much easier if you drop by our PoE 2 store. We’ve got a great selection of currencies and services that will help you build your character with ease.

How To Get Leveling Uniques In PoE 2

Getting good items in PoE 2 Rise of the Abyssals League is hard enough on its own. But getting specific uniques with the right rolls is a different kind of challenge. For the purpose of leveling, it becomes even trickier. If you’re looking to optimize your early game progression, the 10 Best Path of Exile 2 Builds in Early Access guide is a great companion for choosing builds that benefit most from the items listed here.

There are a lot of unique items in PoE 2 right now (especially after Patch 0.3.0), and we’ll be honest with you, you won’t be able to find all of them. It’s best to set your eyes on a few specific items, which we’ll list down below to make your journey easier. But to begin with, here are a few things to consider if you want to farm for specific uniques.

  • Hunt down monsters: This is going to be a huge part of your leveling journey and your journey in PoE 2 in general. If you’re lucky, you should be able to snag a Unique or two while simply going through the main campaign.
  • Use the right modifiers: You should specifically use gear with increased Item Rarity modifiers. This is going to significantly increase your chances of getting Uniques. Even if the gear is weak, wear it just for the purpose of getting a Unique.
  • Gold Gear - If you have them, make sure to bring Golden Charms, Gold Amulet, or a Gold Ring to better your chances at getting a unique item. If you’re going to spend your money on something, it may as well be this.

You’ll have to be extremely lucky if you’re looking for specific Uniques to drop. As such, the most practical way to get those would be to simply trade. A good start would be to stock up on high-value items so that you can have something worth trading for. Your flow for trading should be this:

  1. Have a few PoE 2 Exalted Orbs to trade with. This is one of the best currencies to trade with early on and even in the late game.
  2. Go to the PoE 2 Trade site and sign in. Make sure to look for the correct League your character is in.
  3. Look for the Unique Item that you want to buy and then search for it on the database.
  4. Look for sellers who are trading the items you need to have and give them a good offer. Make sure to message a few people so that you have a few options when trading.

If you want to make sure that you’re getting a good deal and are getting the right rolls for the items you need, here are a few more things to consider:

  • Refine your search: You can filter items on the store by clicking Filter by Item Stats. This will help you narrow down the search to specific stat rolls. It’s going to reduce the amount of offers you can try for but it’s all worth it.
  • Study the ranges on desired affixes: You can highlight the modifier in the search results of the official PoE 2 Trading website. Make sure to take note of the blue text which should show the range of your desired affixes.
  • Use the appropriate filter: You can put in a Maximum buyout price for Exalted Orbs specifically. This lets you look for items that you can actually afford.

Movement Speed & Mobility Items

Movement speed and mobility might just be the last thing you think of when it comes to leveling gear, but trust us, it’s very important. Without decent movement speed and mobility, you’ll have a hard time surviving against mobs while trying to level up.

PoE 2 Movement Speed and Mobility Items Banner

Having good mobility is also important if you want to move fast within areas, thus cutting back traveling time while grinding in PoE 2 Patch 0.3.0.

ItemSlotLevelKey BenefitsNotes
WanderlustBoots11• 20% Movement Speed
• Speed unaffected by slows
Lots of players love these boots because of the movement speed that normally isn't available until level 30 on rare items. You can get this on trade (often 4000+ listings), making them a reliable purchase.

The "unaffected by slows" mod is actually more useful in PoE2 than the old "cannot be frozen" was in PoE1, since it protects against more effect types.
Surefooted SigilAmulet8• +1m Dodge Roll distance
• 50% increased Evasion after dodge roll
• Good Life and Dexterity
That extra meter makes a huge difference when it comes to boss fights and the Sekhema Trials. The extended roll distance basically maxes out your immunity window, so avoiding hazards is a lot easier.

The evasion boost is much needed and maintains itself naturally through normal gameplay. The biggest downside? You'll feel painfully slow after you eventually replace it. Despite the evasion bonus, it's excellent for all classes, not just Rangers.
BushwhackBoots33• 15-25% Movement Speed
• Physical damage causes Pinning
Despite the higher level requirement and heavy Dexterity investment, these boots are on this list because of pure power alone. A good roll (above 20%) outperforms any rare boots available at this level tier.

The Pinning effect (prevents movement for 4 seconds) applied by your main physical damage skills creates a powerful crowd control system that most builds need utility skills to actually get. A good way to solve the Dexterity requirement with the boots' own +10-20 Dex modifier by temporarily having a Jade Amulet.
ThrillsteelHelmet27• Permanent Onslaught (20% Skill Speed, 10% Movement)This helmet gives the coveted Onslaught buff permanently without any kill conditions or maintenance requirements. The high Strength requirement (50) makes it challenging for pure Intelligence or Dexterity builds, but it’s perfect for specific classes.

The fact that this is only available late in Act 2 limits its early game impact. Also, its rarity drives up the price compared to other leveling options. However, the superb speed bonuses often justify the investment for builds that can use it.
Death RushRingVaries• Onslaught on killGreat alternative for attack builds, but can be expensive
Foxshade (Honorable Mention)Body ArmorVaries• Conditional movement speed
• High Evasion
Movement speed between combat encounters, great for Rangers

Mana Management Items

In most cases, you’re going to be relying on your skills to kill mobs of enemies. It’s better to have a consistent source of mana while grinding so that you don’t ever run out of skills to use. Remember, it’s more about mana regeneration rather than increasing your mana pool.

ItemSlotLevelKey BenefitsNotes
Midnight BraidBelt1• 50% damage taken recouped as Mana
• 30-50 Mana
• Good resistances
One of the best level 1 options, even ignoring the mana recovery. The recoup mechanic initially provides modest returns (roughly half a skill's worth of mana for each hit taken), but scales impressively once you start fighting harder-hitting enemies.

The recovery happens over 8 seconds and stacks with multiple hits, which means you’ll have a reliable mana stream during all of your combat scenarios.

If you pair with the Life Recovery implicit and 5-10% elemental resistances, it offers high value without drawbacks.
GlowswarmRing1• Improved Mana Flasks
• Passive Flask charge generation
The most straightforward mana solution available from level 1. It’s honestly a choice between this and the Midnight Braid.

Unlike many leveling uniques with conditional effects, Glow Worm has consistent passive flask charge generation over time, so you're never without mana recovery options for long.

The better flask effectiveness extends the value of your flasks throughout the campaign which is going to be your main source of leveling.

The only problem we have with this item is that it has a singular focus on mana with no secondary benefits.

This puts the ring away from taking the top spot despite its reliability. Easy to acquire and budget-friendly.
KeelhaulBeltVaries• Life and Mana Flask charges over time
• Improved Flask effectiveness
A deceptively tricky item to evaluate since it can roll dramatically different values but if you’re lucky, you’ve got something amazing.

A poorly rolled Keelhaul can actually reduce your flask recovery rate and provide no passive charges, making it worse than no belt at all.

When shopping, prioritize finding one with a positive flask recovery rate and at least some charges per second. Well-rolled versions command premium prices as players recognize their value.

Check trade listings carefully and don't just buy the cheapest one available. Consider Birthright Buckle as a more consistent alternative.
DustbloomBody Armor26• Mana regeneration when not hit recently
• Good Cold resistance and Evasion
Works best with ranged or evasion-focused builds
Alkem EiraShieldVaries• Blocked damage recouped as Mana
• Manual blocking with Raise Shield
Requires using a shield, making it build-specific

Problem-Solving Items

These are items that are needed for specific things in the game. They aren’t exactly necessary but they do provide a bit of support in certain scenarios so they’re good to have around.

Many melee or strength-based builds will find items like those listed under ‘Mace Build Items’ especially useful — for example, if you follow one of the 6 Best Warrior Builds in POE 2, you’ll want to prioritize high physical damage and early leveling uniques to stay alive and dish damage.

PoE 2 Problem-Solving Items Banner
ItemSlotLevelKey BenefitsNotes
Birthright BuckleBelt14• 60% increased Flask charges gained
• 15% reduced Flask charges used
• Instant recovery on low life/mana
A reliable problem-solver that transforms your flask experience with two powerful modifiers. First, it dramatically improves flask efficiency with both increased charges gained and reduced charges used, extending your flask uptime substantially.

Second, it provides crucial "panic button" functionality by making flasks apply instantly when you're at low life or mana (35% or less).

This creates a natural safety net during challenging encounters, which are likely especially when you’re doing high-level dungeons.

Unlike Keelhaul, it doesn't provide passive flask charges, but it does have consistent bonuses and it doesn’t have potentially negative modifiers so it’s a lot more dependable compared to that item. The decent armor bonus is a welcome addition for any build concerned with physical damage.
GreymakeHelmet5• +50 to all Attributes
• -1 to all Attributes per level
Solves attribute requirements until mid Act 3

Damage-Focused Items (Universal)

Of course, damage is going to be just as important as other stars in the game. You’re not going to want to look for high raw damage. It’s better to look for items that provide consistent bonuses so that you’re always dealing max damage wherever you go.

Oh, make sure to check out our ultimate PoE 2 leveling guide to help you grind to level 100 much easier.

ItemSlotLevelKey BenefitsNotes
Crown of the VictorHelmet5• +1 to all skills
• Life and Mana on kill
Earns top ranking not because it gives the most damage, but because it is suitable for just about every class.

The +1 to all skills benefits both damage and utility skills, making it useful for virtually any build. The on-kill recovery provides comfortable mapping sustain (though it's less helpful for boss encounters).

The item rarity bonus helps with equipment upgrades while leveling. With very little attribute requirements and early availability, it's a helmet you can keep in your stash as a reliable starter for any new character.
BlackheartRing1• Added flat damage to attacks
• 25% chance to Intimidate
While the flat damage is not that good for the first 10 levels, the intimidate effect is what makes this ring a top choice.

Intimidate in PoE2 causes enemies to deal 10% reduced damage AND take 10% increased damage - a dual offensive/defensive boost from a level 1 item.

The beauty of this ring is its versatility: even summoners benefit from the intimidate effect since it only requires hitting enemies, not killing them. The generic nature of the bonus works for any damage type, making this a superb starter item.
Lochtonial CaressGloves16• 10-15% increased Skill Speed
• Reduced maximum Mana
Great for any build, pair with mana solution
LevinstoneRingVaries• +1 level to Lightning Skills
• Extra Shock (20%)
Lightning-specific but powerful enough to be worth using
CracklecreepRingVaries• 20-30% increased Fire damage
• Ignite Proliferation
Fire-specific, great for clearing packs

Defensive Items

Defensive items are just as important as damage-dealing items. In fact, it might even be preferred by most players. You’re not supposed to focus on maxing out damage while grinding to the max level anyway. Defensive items ensure that you’re able to tank damage from mobs even when you’re surrounded.

ItemSlotLevelKey BenefitsNotes
GoldrimHelmet10• 25-35% to all Elemental ResistancesThe beloved "set it and forget it" defensive solution. Monster damage in the early game is balanced around players having minimal elemental resistance, so Goldrim instantly makes you significantly more durable against elemental attacks.

The 20 Dexterity requirement is manageable for any class. Its real value comes in freeing up resistance requirements on your other gear slots, allowing you to focus on damage or utility modifiers instead.

It’s certainly not flashy but its popularity keeps prices relatively high, with well-rolled versions (closer to 35% resistance) commanding premium prices.
Revered ResinAmuletVaries• Large Life bonus
• Improved Life Flasks
Common and cheap survival option
The Black DoubtBody Armor11• Sacrifices 10% Mana/sec to recover LifeA fascinating defensive option that transforms your mana pool into a secondary life recovery system.

If you want to fully utilize it, make sure to get as much Intelligence and mana as possible, with investments in mana recovery.

When properly built around, the healing can easily outperform most incoming damage in the campaign.

For an interesting combo, pair this with Midnight Braid belt - creating a loop where taking damage recovers mana, which is then converted back to life healing.

This isn't a plug-and-play unique, but building around it offers a rewarding alternative playstyle.
Wandering ReliquaryBody ArmorVaries• Physical damage not taken recovered as LifeStack Armour to maximize effectiveness
Feathered FortressShield26• Can move while blockingMakes blocking mechanics much more user-friendly

Energy Shield Build Items

This is going to serve the same purpose as the defensive items. It’s mainly for ensuring that you’re getting as high a survivability as possible without having to suffer heavily from the mobs in the game.

PoE 2 Energy Shield Build Items Banner
ItemSlotLevelKey BenefitsNotes
Luminous PaceBoots1• ES begins recharge twice as fast

• 10% Movement Speed
These glowing sandals solve a very common problem with early Energy Shield builds: recovery.

Without fast recharge, ES isn't available often enough to function as a reliable source of survivability. Reducing the recharge delay by half means your ES will be available for more of the time between encounters.

While the 10% movement speed isn't impressive compared to later options like Wanderlust, it's still the best available at level 1.

Their low rarity and low price point makes them a no-brainer pickup for ES-based Sorceress and Monk builds starting out.
GhostwritheBody Armor1• Large ES bonus
• Converts 25% of Life to ES
• Chaos Resistance
This robe creates a massive Energy Shield pool right from level 1, but comes with a rather interesting twist- it leverages your life investments to grow your ES even further.

The life conversion initially seems like a downside, but becomes an advantage when you realize you can stack life on other gear to indirectly boost your ES total.

The built-in chaos resistance addresses ES's key vulnerability (chaos damage bypassing ES). Combo this with Luminous Pace and Deathrattle for a complete early-game ES recovery system that’s able to sustain your large shield pool.
DeathrattleFocus1• ES Recharge on killExcellent active ES recovery method
BitterbloomBody Armor5• ES Recharge when using Mana Flask
• 50% boost to ES Recovery Rate
Limited base ES, eventually needs replacement
Crown of ThornsHelmet1• Large ES bonus
• Lose 5 Life per skill use
Requires some Life regeneration to offset the downside

Bow Build Items

Now we’re moving on to a few specific items that are important for certain classes. We’re going to start with the bows in the game. These items are only essential if you’re used to using the bow so you might as well create a build centered around it for leveling. These items are also going to be good for the Lightning Arrow Deadeye build in PoE 2.

ItemSlotLevelKey BenefitsNotes
WidowhailBowVaries• 250% increased bonuses from QuiverAt first look, this bow looks bad with its minimal base damage. However, it functions as a multiplier for every affix on your quiver - not just damage, but also attack speed, critical modifiers, life gain, and even implicit modifiers, making it quite the weapon to have.

When paired with a good rare quiver (not unique quivers), it beats any comparable leveling bows at similar price points. The goal here is to find a quiver with enough added flat damage of any element.

The scaling potential makes this an expensive but extraordinarily fun weapon that grows as you improve your quiver.
Asphyxia's WrathQuiver1• Added Cold damage
• Phys as added Cold
• Attack Speed
• Chill effect
This quiver does everything right for a bow leveling experience. The flat cold damage provides immediate damage at level 1, while the physical-as-extra-cold scaling ensures it remains relevant as you upgrade your bow.

The attack speed and resistance modifier add general quality-of-life, while the damage multiplier against chilled enemies creates a relatively easy loop for increasing power. Beyond raw damage, the chill and freeze effects dramatically improve survivability by controlling enemy movement.

It's so effective that many players use it throughout the entire campaign, even when higher level quivers become available.
PlaguefingerGloves4• All damage contributes to Poison
• Chance to Poison on Hit
Essential for Poison Ranger builds
BlackgleamQuiver8• Added Fire damage
• Increased Ignite chance
• Pierce Ignited enemies
Good budget option despite limited Fire synergy with bows

Crossbow Build Items

Next up, we’re going to move to the best crossbow build items that you can get for your character early on. There are a few standout items but we’ve narrowed down the list to just three.

PoE 2 Crossbow Build Items Banner
ItemSlotLevelKey BenefitsNotes
Radiant GriefHelmet16• Ignites nearby enemies
• Synergizes with Gas Grenade
What makes this helmet special is its interaction with the Crossbow's Gas Grenade skill. The automatic ignite effect (which works on any enemy within roughly 2/3 of your screen) creates a perfect trigger for Gas Grenade's explosion mechanic, which detonates instantly on contact with ignited enemies.

This creates a pretty effective clearing style without requiring any specialized build support. The ignite also enables full effectiveness from the Immolate support gem with zero downside.

It doesn’t seem like a fire-specialized item, it's actually a core mechanical enabler that transforms the Crossbow gameplay experience.
Mist WhisperCrossbow1• Added Cold damage
• Projectiles Chain
• Increased Freeze
Excellent for Permafrost Bolts+Fragmentation setup
Rampart RaptorCrossbowVaries• Massive attack speed
• Infinite ammo after reload
Slower reloads but turns skills into "machine guns"

Spellcaster Items

For the spellcasters, you’re going to want to look for gear that constantly generates mana or at least boosts your damage greatly. You don’t have to focus on damage immediately but getting good bonuses early on is certainly going to be helpful if you want to ensure that you’re quickly dealing with mobs using builds like the Ice Strike Invoker.

ItemSlotLevelKey BenefitsNotes
LifesprigWandVaries• +3 to Spell Skills
• Cast Speed
• Life leech on cast
This is one of the most important spellcaster weapons in the game, whether you’re leveling or not. It maintains its crown in PoE2.

The +3 to spell levels provides a massive power spike, particularly for elemental skills with strong level scaling. The cast speed and life leech create a comfortable casting experience with built-in sustain.

One thing to be aware of: Lifesprig's level requirement varies based on the level of the Mana Drain skill it grants - making level 1 versions quite rare and expensive.

Budget-conscious players should look for level 10-14 versions instead, which offer nearly identical benefits at a fraction of the cost.
EarthboundStaffVaries• Lightning damage and cast speed
• Triggers Sparks on kills
Great for clearing zones but swap for bosses
Dusk VigilStaffVaries• Fire version of Earthbound
• Triggers Ember Fusillade
Can complement Earthbound as weapon swap
Threaded Light + Enfolding DawnFocus + BodyVaries• Spell damage scales with SpiritGood for hybrid summoner/spellcaster

Mace Build Items

From magic damage, we’re heading into melee damage territory and we’re going to start with the most brute weapon of them all in PoE 2. When looking for items like these, make sure to stick with items that provide good damage bonuses over anything else.

PoE 2 Mace Build Items Banner
ItemSlotLevelKey BenefitsNotes
Horns of Bynden/Wings of CaelynHelmetVaries• Gain Rage on Melee Hit
• Secondary bonuses
These twin helmets give similar core benefits with slight variations. Both provide Rage generation on melee hit, which builds up to 30% more attack damage at maximum stacks.

On the other hand, the Horns of Bynden edges ahead slightly thanks to its Strength bonus (providing around 60 life at high rolls) and its "increased Armour per Rage" modifier, which scales defensive capabilities alongside offense.

Wings of Caelyn instead provides Dexterity and "increased Stun Threshold per Rage," making it a lot better for certain evasion-based builds. Both helmets transform any melee build by making Rage generation stronger and unlocking powerful Rage-based support skills.
FrostbreathMace10• Cold and Physical damage
• Culling Strike vs Frozen
• All damage contributes to Freeze
Makes freezing viable for Warrior builds
Hrimnor's HymnGreathammer4• High early damage
• Slam skills have Aftershocks
Great early game but falls off by mid Act 2
TreefingersGlovesVaries• Physical Damage
• Giant's Blood keystone
Allows dual-wielding two-handed maces

Quarterstaff Items

ItemSlotLevelKey BenefitsNotes
Pillar of the Caged GodQuarterstaffVaries• Scales with attributes
• No base damage
A unique weapon with no inherent damage but it has a ton of scaling potential. The Pillar converts your attributes into weapon stats: Strength provides weapon damage (10% per 10 Str), Dexterity grants attack speed (1% per 10 Dex), and Intelligence adds area of effect (1% per 10 Int).

To get the most out of this weapon, you need to pursue two important things: stack as many attribute bonuses as possible while simultaneously finding external sources of flat added damage (from rings, gloves, and runes).

It goes incredibly well with items like Meginord's Girdle, Greymake, and Titanrot Cataphract. This "stat-stacking" approach creates a rewarding progression path that can transition smoothly into the endgame.
MatsyaQuarterstaff20• Elemental damage
• Crit chance
• 50% reduced Spirit Reservation
Great for hybrid builds, limited lifespan
The Blood ThornQuarterstaff1• High Physical Damage
• Guaranteed bleeds
Simple but effective physical option
Painter's ServantQuarterstaffVaries• Combines with Tempest Bell for ailment effectsFor chaotic, varied damage types
JarngreiprGloves6• Physical damage
• Attack speed
• Life
Solves attribute requirements
Grip of WinterGlovesVaries• Cold Damage
• Ailment scaling
Good offensive and defensive boost

Summoner Items

We’re almost done. There are only two more categories left, and one of them is items for Summoners. There aren’t a lot of decent Summoner items for leveling so you’ll have to rely mostly on universal items. Below are some of the best if you’re looking to be a summoner.

Summoner or caster builds especially care about Spirit usage and items that grant Spirit or related bonuses — you might find the Complete Guide to Get More Spirit in Path of Exile 2 [0.2.0] useful for understanding how to stack Spirit early while using leveled uniques effectively.

ItemSlotLevelKey BenefitsNotes
Enfolding DawnBody Armor1• Massive Spirit
• Elemental Resistances
This is a staple of any early summoner build, providing an enormous Spirit pool right from level 1 that enables immediate access to multiple minion skills.

The up to 15% all elemental resistances is a surprising bonus for such an early item, helping with general defenses while you focus on minion production.

The one significant problem we have with this is its "less mana from Intelligence" modifier, which can create mana issues if not addressed. You might want to pair this with Gravebind or one of the mana-solving uniques to create a more comfortable summoning experience.

Even with this limitation, the Spirit advantage is so substantial that most summoners consider it mandatory.
GravebindGlovesVaries• Claim credit for minion kills
• Life and Mana on kill
Provides sustain for summoner builds

Premium Items (Expensive)

If you have a little extra to spend, then you’re going to want these Premium Items as well. These offer a significant boost to your stat but they do come at a price so keep that in mind.

ItemSlotLevelKey BenefitsNotes
AstramentisAmulet25• Massive Attributes bonusThe undisputed champion of attribute-stacking builds and the poster child for "luxury leveling uniques."

The good thing about this is that it only requires level 25, Astramentis can provide well over 100 to all attributes, making it absolutely perfect for Pillar of the Caged God builds or any setup struggling with attribute requirements.

The reason it sits in this special category is purely economic - expect to pay premium currency that would fund several complete sets of normal leveling uniques.

It’s only for wealthy players or those fully committed to attribute scaling, it represents the single most impactful slot upgrade possible, but remains strictly a "win more" luxury for most builds.

It’s definitely a must but if you don’t have the money to spend on something like this, you can definitely skip it.
Thief's TormentRing26• Life/Mana on hit
• Item Rarity
• Elemental Resistances
The ultimate "money is no object" leveling solution. Thief's Torment completely eliminates mana concerns with its substantial mana-on-hit modifier. At the same time, it provides exceptional life sustain, item rarity, elemental resistances, and curse mitigation.

The only real issue we have with this is that it prevents the use of a second ring. Honestly, that is barely a limitation since most players would gladly let go of both ring slots for these benefits.

The reason it doesn't top every list is purely economic: a single well-rolled Thief's Torment costs approximately five Divine Orbs, enough to purchase entire sets of every other leveling unique listed here. Reserved for the truly wealthy or dedicated players who believe optimal leveling speed justifies any price.
