Runescape 3 Hybrid Perk, Ability, Spell & Equipment Guide

Hybrid is a term used for using more than one style of combat while doing any sort of combat related activity. There are quite a few combat encounters in-game where the game will require you to switch your combat style mid-fight. This can be due to the fact that the opponent is using protection prayers or they have phases that switch their resistances around. For these encounters you can either bring full sets of armour and switch your entire gear alongside your weapons, this will take up a lot of inventory space and will be harder to do, or wear hybrid armour and just change your weapon whenever you need.


Hybrid Weapons & Perks

                                                                                

There are only two hybrid weapons in the game and their tier is quite low, these two weapons are:

  • Vanquish Tier 75: This weapon can be obtained from May’s Quest Caravan. You need to spend 150 quest points on the combat track to get it. This weapon has a switch option and you can switch to magic, ranged and melee. This weapon has a unique passive that grants 5% damage boost that stacks up to 25% against quest bosses. To stack this damage you need to die to the boss and each death will add +5% bonus damage to your weapon against that boss. Given it’s passive you can already tell that this weapon is not made for regular PvMing.

  • Sunspear Tier 78: There is a lot to unpack about this spear so here it goes:

  • Completion of the quest “Rivers of Blood” is required.

  • Acts as a Sunspear against vampyres.

  • Acts as a wolfbane against werewolves.

  • Acts as a spear against corporeal beast.

  • It has a switch option that can be used to change the spears attack style to magic, ranged or melee.

  • This weapon can be augmented.

  • Against vampyres it has the following effects:

  • Has a chance to deal double damage.

  • Has +75% hit chance.

  • It receives +10 damage up to a maximum +100 for every 50 vyre corpses cremated in the Columbarium.

  • Automatically cremates vyre corpses, this grants 280 Prayer and 200 Firemaking experience. This can be further boosted by 50% if you have completed the Morytania achievements. This process also grants a 20% chance to receive additional loot. Cremating this way will not count towards the cremation done in the Columbarium.

  • Prevents Vampyre juvinates in Darkmeyer from escaping.

So the short version is these two weapons are easy to get untradable weapons but they are only really useful in certain scenarios. Vanquish is only really useful against quest bosses and sunspear is only really useful against Vampires.

Hybrid Armours & Perks

Hybrid armour sets are sets that provide bonuses for every combat style rather than only one. Because of this their bonuses are actually much lower than regular armour sets bonuses. This fact can be further compensated by the fact that most of these hybrid armours have unique set effects.

Dragonstone armour

  • Can be obtained as a rare reward from crystal chests or Triskelion treasures.

Void armour

  • One of the most iconic, old power armours of the game.

  • Unlike other power armours, this armour provides a percentage based bonus, which makes it scale with your weapons.

  • Only armour in the game that provides an accuracy boost.

  • This set has 3 helmets and each helmet corresponds to a combat style. The bonuses and the style of the entire armour set changes depending on the helmet that you are wearing.

  • Set effect provides a +3% accuracy and +5% damage to the combat style that you have chosen.

  • It can be upgraded into elite void after the completion of the quest “The Void Stares Back”.

  • Can be upgraded further into a superior version which increases the defensive bonuses and the damage boost to +7%.

Obsidian armour

  • Requires the completion of the quest “The Brink of Extinction”.

  • Untradable and must be crafted by using obsidian bars, these bars are made from shards that can ınly be obtained from the Fight Cauldron minigame.

  • Only degrades in TzHaar areas.

  • Has a set effect that reduces damage taken by 55% (45% without the kiteshield). This only works in TzHaar city and the three minigames that reside in it.

  • Has an effect that provides a chance to drain your opponents prayer and boost your own prayer. Drains the prayer based on ⅓ of the damage dealt and boosts yours by ⅕.

  • Degrades and repairs for 450K.

  • This set has a whooping +46 prayer bonus which is the highest amount out of all the sets in the game.

  • A dragonrider kit can be used to upgrade the sets gloves and boots.

  • Depending on your Defence level this set has 3 tiers.

  • It has a unique set effect that increases the experience earned and the damage dealt against any creature that gives Prayer experience through an ectoplasmator. Each piece equipped increases this effect maximum 10%.

  • Creatures that are affected by this effect is as follows:

  • All revenants

  • All spiritual creatures

  • All barrows brothers

  • All shades

  • All ghosts

  • All banshees

Armour of Trials

  • Can be obtained from May’s Quest caravan by allocating 125 quest points to the combat track.

  • Has three tiers available and will be based on your defence level.

  • Just like the Vanquish, this set is all about quest bosses. It has a set effect that will grant you +1% damage reduction every time you die to a quest boss. This can stack up to a total of +25%.

Warpriest of gods

  • There are 5 different warpriest armour sets which are; Saradomin, Zamorak, Bandos, Armadyl and Tuska and each set has the same stats but different passive effects.

  • These armour sets tier will change depending on your Defence level.

  • To obtain the god warpriests simply kill their followers. For Tuska you will need to buy it from the Anima Islands reward shop for 13K reward currency.

  • Set effects (Wearing at least 3 pieces is a must for these effects):

  • Tuska: +1% chance to deal critical hits per piece. 

  • Bandos: Reduces the cooldown of abilities that have a cooldown of 30 seconds or longer by 15%. Chances of this happening are 5% for 3-4 pieces, 10% for 5 pieces and 20% for 6 pieces. Can be worn with Armadyl.

  • Armadyl: Reduces the cooldown of abilities that have a cooldown of 30 seconds or longer by 15%. Chances of this happening are 5% for 3-4 pieces, 10% for 5 pieces and 20% for 6 pieces. Can be worn with Bandos.

  • Zamorak: Has a chance to reduce damage. Each piece of armour increases the chances of this effect happening by 1%. The damage is reduced to 10% of the initial damage. If all armour pieces are worn you only take 4% of the initial damage that you would have taken.

  • Saradomin: Has a chance to reduce damage. Each piece of armour increases the chances of this effect happening by 1%. The damage is reduced to 10% of the initial damage. If all armour pieces are worn you only take 4% of the initial damage that you would have taken.

Globetrotter outfit

  • This armour can be bought from the Treasure trails reward shop for trail points.

  • It can have defensive bonuses up to tier 75 armour.

  • Has a lot of passieve effects that greatly aid clue scroll hunting so shouldn’t be used for combat.

  • Requires level 50 Agility.

  • Each piece worn will increase your chances of getting an ancient elven wedding ring.

  • Wearing more than two pieces will increase your damage by 5% against crystal shapeshifters. It will also increase your chances of activating your attuned crystal weapon by 3%. Also the maximum amount of Tarddian crystals dropped and crystal fragments gathered are increased by 1 per piece.

  • While wearing 3 or more pieces, it increases your chance of activating Tarddian fury which deals damage to all surrounding enemies. The chance of this happening are 1% per piece up to 5%.

  • While wearing 4 or more pieces, tarddian fury also removes bleeds and makes stuns ineffective.

Attuned crystal armour

  • Requires the completion of the quest “Roving Elves”.

  • Requires level 50 Agility.

  • Each piece worn will increase your chances of getting an ancient elven wedding ring, this attuned version doubles this effect.

  • Wearing more than two pieces will increase your damage by 10% against crystal shapeshifters. It will also increase your chances of activating your attuned crystal weapon by 6%. Also the maximum amount of Tarddian crystals dropped and crystal fragments gathered are increased by 1 per piece.

  • While wearing 3 or more pieces, it increases your chance of activating Tarddian fury which deals damage to all surrounding enemies. The chance of this happening are 1.5% per piece up to 7.5%.

  • While wearing 4 or more pieces, tarddian fury also removes bleeds and makes stuns ineffective.

  • While wearing all 5 pieces, you have a chance of activating the Harmonious Resonance which is a 10 second buff:

  • This buff can be activated when taking damage, when casting crystallise or when casting crystal mask.

  • Aurora spells are twice as effective.

  • Seren prayers will not drain prayer points.

  • Crystal mask will last 20% longer.

  • Crystallise will last 50% longer.

Gemstone armour

  • This armour set has a unique effect called enchanted touch. To use this effect the armour should first be charged with gems. Depending on your choice you can charge it with uncut dragonstones, onyxes or hydrixes.

  • When charged with a specific stone the armour gains its enchanted bolt effect. Wearing the full set will grant you the same chance of effect activation of any enchanted bolt. You will need to wear at least 3 pieces for this effect to work.

  • Armour will gain 10 charges per uncut dragonstone, 100 per uncut onyx and 1000 per uncut hydrix.

  • This armour is pretty good but will cost a lot to operate.

  • Lucky perk can't be used if you are using either the Saradomin or Zamorak set effect.

Slayer helmets

If you are on a slayer task the slayer helmet is the best in slot helmet to use. This helmet has 5 variants, each one being an upgrade from the previous one. Best one is called the Corrupted Slayer helmet. Having a slayer helmet will greatly increase your damage and accuracy against monsters that are on your slayer task while also giving protection against some attacks from the said monsters.

Invention Perks

Perks that you need to know:

  • Crackling: Deal 50% of your ability damage to a creature per rank. 60 second cooldown.

  • Biting: Adds 2% critical strike chance to your weapon per rank.

  • Invigorating: Increases adrenaline gainage with auto-attacks.

  • Enhanced Devoted: Grants a chance to make protection prayers reduce the damage to 1.

  • Relentless: Grants a chance to not use adrenaline when using, threshold, ultimate and special attack abilities.

  • Devoted: Grants a chance to trigger the effects of devotion.

  • Impatient: 9% chance per rank to add 3% extra adrenaline when using basic abilities.

Action Bar

For hybriding you will be constantly changing your action bar depending on your weapon. There is actually a option on your combat options to automatically switch to a pre-selected bar when you equip a weapon that is of a different style. Turning this on is a must for hybriding as it will make your life so much easier.
