Void is a new runeword that was introduced in Diablo II: Resurrected—Reign of the Warlock DLC. It is primarily aimed at D2R builds that deal magic damage, such as the Abyss Warlock, Miasma Warlock, and even the popular Hammerdin. Void is viable for builds that deal magic damage, even though this runeword contains skill boosts for certain Warlock skills.

Diablo II: Resurrected Void

D2R Void Runeword: Recipe and Base Item Requirements

Just like the New Runewords in Diablo II: Resurrected, Void requires a specific set of runes that have to be inserted in order. These runes are Thul, Zod, and Ist. The Thul Rune is the cheapest of the bunch, the Ist Rune is a bit more valuable, while Zod is the most expensive.

Void has a steep price of entry because of the Zod Rune requirement. Zod is a very expensive rune that is sometimes priced higher than Jah and Ber Runes in Diablo II: Resurrected.

Aside from the runes, you have to consider the correct item base as well. For the Void Runeword, you have to find three-socketed daggers to fit the aforementioned runes in.

D2R Void Runeword: Full Stats

RunewordRequired Runes and Rune OrderStats
VoidThul + Zod + Ist+2 to All Skills
+40% Faster Cast Rate
+10-15% to Magic Skill Damage
+1-3 to Abyss (Warlock Skill)
+8-12 to All Attributes
Level 4 Decrepify (35 Charges)
Adds 3-14 Cold Damage
Indestructible
30% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items

On the surface, the Void Runeword can be seen as a weapon runeword in Diablo II: Resurrected that is mainly utilized by Warlocks only. However, the truth is that it’s sometimes better in the hands of other classes.

That is because Void increases the level of all your skills by two, grants a 40% boost in FCR, and gives a good increase in magic skill damage (of up to 15%). Besides that, Void’s “+1-3 points to Abyss” is actually available for all classes to use. This is because it’s an “oSkill” that can only be found in this D2R runeword.

In the endgame, the “Magic Find” stat (aka MF) becomes more valuable. This is because the vast majority of your time is spent on farming the more pinnacle content in Diablo II: Resurrected, including Pandemonium Tristram, the new Heralds of Terror (from Terrorized Zones), and the Colossal Ancients fight.

Void’s “30% Better Change of Getting Magic Items” works really well for a Miasma Warlock or Hammerdin, especially when paired with the new Gheed’s Wager unique belt (which, by the way, was also introduced in the Reign of the Warlock DLC).

With its unique combination of stats, the Void Runeword remains one of the most powerful in Diablo II: Resurrected.

D2R Void Runeword: Best Bases

You need to find a good dagger base with exactly three open sockets if you want to create the Void Runeword in D2R.

Speaking of which, here are the daggers that RPGStash recommends for Void:

  • Kris: Very cheap and only requires 45 DEX to wield.
  • Cinquedas: Higher base damage with an equally high DEX requirement of 88, the Cinquedas is also a good dagger base for Void.
  • Fanged Knife: This dagger is nearly identical to Cinquedas, except that it has a lower DEX requirement of 86. The only downside is that this dagger can be equipped starting at level 62 (rather than level 25 for the Cinquedas).
  • Blade: A solid base for Void because of its modest DEX requirement (of 51).
  • Stiletto: The Stiletto can also be equipped at level 25, similar to the Fanged Knife. However, it has a high DEX requirement of 97. Its appearance is slightly better than the Fanged Knife, though, so if you value the looks of a weapon, then the Stiletto is worthy of consideration.
  • Legend Spike: Available at level 67, the Legend Spike can be a contender if your level is high enough. While you only need 67 DEX to wield this thing, the Legend Spike also has a STR requirement of 65.

Best Builds for Void

Do you want to know which builds work perfectly with Void equipped in D2R? Then, here is a brief list:

  • Abyss/Miasma Warlock: With the stats that Void has, it’s as if the Abyss/Miasma Warlock was created specifically to wield the power from the said runeword. The build’s primary skills (Abyss and Miasma Chains) work perfectly together. Besides that, these skills get overpowered when you factor in Void’s up to +3 to Abyss Skills, +2 to All Skills, and 40% Faster Cast Rate.
  • Hammerdin: A high-roll Void (+15% magic damage) can outperform Heart of the Oak in terms of damage scaling for the Hammerdin. Heart of the Oak is still viable and is a cheap alternative to Void, particularly if you don’t have access to a Zod Rune.
  • Bone Necromancer: While some Bone Necromancers would still swear by the use of the White Runeword, Void is a viable alternative. This is because of the increase in magic skill damage (something that White doesn’t have). The Bone Necromancer got its name because of the active skills it uses that deal magic damage—some of which are Bone Spear and Teeth.

If you want to know more about what builds are viable in the current season, you can refer to our D2R tier list.

D2R Void vs. Similar Runewords

What are the other runewords in Diablo II: Resurrected that are similar or often compared to Void? They are:

Heart of the Oak

The HOTO is almost similar to Void, except that it has more resistance bonuses, a 15% increase in maximum mana, 75% increased damage against demons, and +3 to all skills. It does have a 40% FCR, which is exactly the same as Void.

Now, the question of whether you should use Void or Heart of the Oak depends on a couple of things. First, do you have enough resources to get yourself a Zod Rune? If not, you’re better off with HOTO, at least for the time being.

Second, are you playing a D2R build that deals primarily magic damage? Then, there’s no doubt that you should obtain the Void Runeword, especially because of its valuable +15% to magic skill damage.

Obsession

This next D2R runeword is stronger in some aspects than Void, though it has significantly steeper requirements. Obsession is often compared to Void because of the Zod Rune (along with an Ist, Lem, Lum, Io, and Nef). Not only is it indestructible, but it also has a higher FCR (65%), higher + to skills (4), and +10 to Vitality and Energy.

On top of the number of runes required to create this runeword, Obsession needs a suitable two-handed staff that has six open sockets. Despite its suite of affixes, Obsession does not have that magic skill damage bonus, which is highly sought after by many magic-based builds in Diablo II: Resurrected.

Spirit

Spirit is one of the most popular runewords in Diablo II: Resurrected because the runes required to make it are cheap, and the affixes it has when placed inside a 4os shield are tremendous (like 35% FCR, +2 to skills, and 35% cold/lightning/poison resistance).

In fact, since a dagger is a one-handed weapon (which the Void Runeword requires as a base), you can actually use Void and Spirit together. This is if you are willing to spend a considerable amount of points on STR to be able to wield a Monarch Shield (the first non-Paladin shield that can roll four open sockets).

How to Farm the Required Runes for Void

So, how do you get the runes to create the Void Runeword in Diablo II: Resurrected? Well, here are some farming tips:

Thul Rune

Thul is the most inexpensive rune among the bunch. This thing can be farmed from The Countess in Act 1, though you have to be strong enough to handle the said mini-boss in Nightmare and Hell Difficulties. The Thul Rune is a fairly common drop at about one rune per seven Countess runs.

Ist Rune

The Ist Rune is one of the most commonly traded runes in Diablo II: Resurrected. This is due to the fact that it is a recipe to create some valuable runewords, such as Call to Arms, Chains of Honor, and Void, among others.

Additionally, the Ist Rune provides a huge increase in MF if you socket it into your weapon, armor pieces, or shield.

To get the Ist Rune, RPGStash advises you to farm The Countess in Hell Difficulty. As you can see, the same mini-boss can drop two of the runes that are needed for the creation of the Void Runeword in Diablo II: Resurrected.

Check out our D2R rune farming guide for other good farming spots for these runes.

Zod Rune

Considered the rarest rune in the game, the Zod Rune is a chore to find. Magic find stat on items does not increase the drop rate for this particular rune, so stacking MF won’t directly help with improving its drop chance. However, raising player count does. If you’re playing solo, you could use the “/players x” command, where “X” is the number of supposed players in the party. If you’re in multiplayer, you can add people to your party to help with the farming session.

In addition, the Zod Rune drops in high-level areas, particularly in the Matron’s Den, Terror Zones, high-tier Heralds of Terror, and the new Colossal Ancients encounter in Diablo II: Resurrected—Reign of the Warlock. Don’t forget to leave interactable objects unturned because the rune might drop from a random sarcophagus in Matron’s Den, for example.

Farming the Zod Rune requires a substantial amount of time. If you want to skip the arduous grind, then you can buy the full runeword from RPGStash’s Void Runeword runes pack.

Is Void Worth Making?

Prior to the release of Reign of the Warlock, there were no items that provided an increase in magic skill damage in Diablo II: Resurrected. That all changed when the DLC dropped, most notably because of the addition of the Void Runeword.

With that said, Warlocks and some Paladin builds can get the most out of this weapon runeword. So, if you are going to play the Hammerdin or Abyss Warlock, for example, then making the Void Runeword is a good choice.

Builds that don’t deal magic damage are better off going for the alternatives. Why? Because Void does require a Zod Rune, which is quite a rare find in D2R. The time it takes to farm Zod is better spent on acquiring the more affordable runes.

Take note that Void has not been nerfed in Patch 3.2, which makes it viable for magic damage builds in Diablo II: Resurrected.

FAQ

Who Should Not Make Void Yet in D2R?

Those who do not have access to the Zod Rune. There are cheaper alternatives, such as Heart of the Oak and Spirit. However, Void is a definite game-changer, especially for builds that deal magic damage like the Hammerdin and Abyss/Miasma Warlock.

Which Stats of the Void Runeword Are Worth It?

Void’s up to +15% magic skill damage is its defining feature, followed by 40% FCR, +2 to All Skills, and +3 to Abyss (which is an oSkill that can be used by other classes as well).

What Are the Best Bases for Void?

The Void Runeword requires daggers with three open sockets. That said, RPGStash recommends a few options, such as the Kris, Fanged Knife, and Blade. These are all solid bases for Void because of their relatively low DEX requirements.

Is an Eth Dagger Base Necessary?

No. In fact, you should not use an ethereal (Eth) base for Void because of the Decrepify charges.

Is Void Good for Improving Magic Find?

Yes, but only if you can afford the runes to make the Void Runeword. Zod is very rare, and it’s not worth it if you use the rune solely for improving MF via Void. However, a good alternative solution is to insert numerous Ist Runes wherever possible, as the said rune adds 25-30% Magic Find, depending on the equipment it’s socketed into.
