Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids brings plenty of new content for you to consume and enjoy during the Holidays. It is headlined by the much-awaited hybrid class, the Druid, who is a shapeshifting specialist that also has the power to harness nature magic to defeat his foes.

Aside from that, PoE 2 will have Incursion 2.0 via the Vaal Temple. This mechanic, for those who do not know, enables you to create your own dungeon by putting several rooms in each run. Complete the temple layout to go head-to-head with a new pinnacle boss: Atziri, the Red Queen!

While those pieces of content are amazing in their own way, there is other new stuff we can explore. In this article, I am going to go over the new PoE 2 unique items that are part of Patch 0.4.0. Read further to find out if these uniques are the right ones for your build in the upcoming league!

Since the new league is fast approaching, I would like to invite you to our PoE 2 Store here in RPGStash! From day one, you can already buy Divine Orbs at a much lower price! Of course, you’re going to find the unique items that will be discussed here today as well!

Overview of the New Unique Items in PoE 2: The Last of the Druids

The PoE 2 developers have said that there are over 10 new unique items in Patch 0.4.0. However, only four of them have been revealed thus far. Most of them can be utilized by the Druid very well, and the last one is for the bow users more than anything.

In case this is the first time you are learning about Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids, the Druid’s default weapon is an animal talisman, which is a two-handed martial weapon that gives him the ability to shapeshift into a Bear, Werewolf, and Wyvern.

A couple of the new unique items that will be discussed here are animal talismans that provide some interesting effects. Let’s dive deeper into these new uniques in Patch 0.4.0, shall we?

Druid-Focused Unique Items

As mentioned earlier, most of the new uniques in Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids that have been revealed so far can be utilized by the new class really well.

Amor Mandragora

Amor Mandragora Talisman

The first unique item that we will talk about is the Amor Mandragora. This is a unique animal talisman that grants the Druid immense power when he spends 20 Rage on an attack.

If you recall, the Druid has the ability to gain Rage when attacking while in his animal forms. For instance, you could keep mauling the enemy while in Bear Form, and then unleash a devastating Rampage when you have enough Rage. The said skill hits harder and lasts longer the more Rage you have.

Amor Mandragora just improves upon that philosophy by providing more power relative to how much Rage was spent when using an appropriate skill.

In addition, this unique animal talisman increases skill effect duration by 15%. That might be a measly amount, but it could help Volcano last longer (by about 1.2 seconds), thus allowing it to spew more fiery projectiles at the enemy before disappearing.

By the looks of it, Amor Mandragora is a relatively low-level unique item, which is probably going to be available from level 25 onwards. If you are going to play the Druid Class once the PoE 2 Fate of the Vaal League goes live, then maybe you could invest in an Amor Mandragora, as it is a good leveling unique.

Fury of the King

Fury of the King Talisman

If the previous unique item is apt for a low-level Druid, this next one is worthy of consideration for an endgame Druid build. The Fury of the King is a good name for this unique animal talisman. When you transform into a Bear with this item equipped, you’ll shapeshift into a fire demon instead!

Since you are effectively a fire demon now, your bear skills will deal fire damage as well. This is because Fury of the King converts 80% of your physical damage to fire damage when using bear skills like Furious Slam and Walking Calamity.

As if that is not enough for you, Fury of the King also affects enemies with Exposure. Exposure is a type of debuff that lowers the elemental resistance of affected monsters by 20%. With the relatively slow attack speed of the bear, dealing damage with every attack is one way to entice you to transform using Bear Form. Thus, Fury of the King is an appealing choice!

Another thing to note about the Fury of the King is that it lets you gain several points of Glory every couple of seconds. In case you are not aware, Glory is a resource that is required by warcry skills, such as Ancestral Cry, to activate. Because of Fury of the King, you can use Ancestral Cry more often, particularly because you’re not going to run out of Glory with it equipped.

Where does this fall short? Well, Fury of the King reduces your attack speed by 15%. This is fine because there are plenty of ways to address this through your gear, socketable items, and support gems. For instance, you can put a few Soul Core of Quipolatl into this animal talisman, which would effectively negate the weapon’s downside.

Other Unique Items in Patch 0.4.0

These next unique items are not specifically tailored to the Druid, though you can certainly use them without a problem.

Atziri’s Rule

Atziri’s Rule staff

The Queen of the Vaal herself, Atziri, drops a couple of new unique items in Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids. The first one is best for spellcasters, especially those who use spell-based projectiles, such as Spark, Ball Lightning, and Fireball, among others.

Atziri’s Rule is a unique staff that grants the Mirror of Refraction skill. Basically, this staff will periodically summon mirrors that shatter when they come into contact with the projectiles. What you need to know about these mirrors is that they can copy the projectiles seven times, which means that the screen will be riddled with spell-based projectiles in just a single cast!

Furthermore, if there happens to be another Mirror of Refraction nearby, the projectiles that were previously copied will be copied again when they hit the new mirror.

Mirror of Refraction projectile effect

It is important to note that the projectiles that are copied and reflected back will fire in a nova (circle-like fashion). Theoretically, this property is best for projectiles that travel in a straight line (like Fireball). However, it could also be useful for Spark since this skill has been known to work well with the Nova Projectiles support in the previous league.

With the nerf to Atalui’s Bloodletting in Patch 0.4.0, the Spark Blood Mage might still be powerful in the new league when you equip it with Atziri’s Rule. This is because, aside from the Mirrors of Refraction, Atziri’s Rule also grants a ton of extra physical damage for spells that cost life (which occurs when you insert Atalui’s Bloodletting into Spark, for example).

In addition, Atziri’s Rule increases the level of all corrupted spell skill gems. Why does this deserve special attention, you ask? Well, the main league mechanic for Fate of the Vaal lets you explore the Vaal Temple, and inside the temple is a room where you can corrupt your skill gems for a chance at the coveted level 21 gem with +23% quality.

Spell skill gems in PoE 2 gain a huge damage boost for every level past level 20. So, if you already have a level 21 Spark due to the Vaal corruption, Atziri’s Rule can increase that by two levels, making the said skill hit so much harder just by equipping one item!

The only thing that I don’t like about Atziri’s Rule is not its stats, but rather its level requirement. At level 84, you should get Atziri’s Rule with high rolls across the board to make it count.

Other than that, this unique staff is definitely a must-have for spell-based projectile builds in Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids!

Drillneck

Drillneck Bow

Atziri has another treat for projectile-based builds. This time, for bow users! Drillneck should be familiar to those who have played the original game. However, if this is your first entry into the franchise, let me explain what this next unique item is.

Drillneck in PoE 2 has several interesting properties that are worthy of note. For one, it can influence attack-based projectiles, like Lightning Arrow and Poisonburst Arrow, to return to you if they have pierced an enemy twice. You could improve this chance by slotting in the Pierce II support gem into your primary attack skill.

If you don’t know, there is still no mechanic in Path of Exile 2 that makes projectiles return to you, until now. Drillneck might have a funny name, but this particular “return” mechanic on projectiles that have pierced enemies makes it on par with the best unique items in PoE 2.

To make the Drillneck even more enticing for bow users, it also increases the damage and critical hit chance of projectiles each time they pierce an enemy. This is quite awesome in bossing scenarios because any damage-boosting effects are always welcome, especially as they help finish the enemy more quickly.

PoE 2 ascendancy classes that specialize in bow attacks, such as the Deadeye and Pathfinder, are admittedly quite squishy. To help address that, the Drillneck provides an increase to your deflection rating equal to a considerable amount of your total evasion rating.

For the uninitiated, deflection rating in Path of Exile 2 prevents 40% of the damage you take from hits. Although it is nerfed a bit in the previous expansion, it is still a reliable defensive mechanic, especially for ranged attackers.

Tips for Farming the Last of the Druids Unique Items

Among the unique items in Patch 0.4.0 that have been revealed so far, only the Amor Mandragora and Fury of the King can be obtained as random drops from defeating enemies. The other two, Atziri’s Rule and Drillneck, can only be acquired by eliminating Atziri, which means that you have to farm the Vaal Ruins as many times as needed.

Anyway, here are some useful tips that will help you farm these new unique items in Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids:

Wear Item Rarity Gear

If you are a beginner in Path of Exile 2, IIR is an item modifier that stands for “Increased Item Rarity.” This mod effectively increases your chances of obtaining more useful items, like the uniques that have been mentioned numerous times in this PoE 2 guide.

That said, wear at least several items that have “Increased Rarity of Items Found” as modifiers. If your gear mostly consists of unique items that are devoid of any IIR, you can settle for “golden” jewelry instead, such as the Gold Ring and the Gold Amulet.

Item Rarity Gear Example

Run the Vaal Ruins

The core league mechanic for Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids is the Vaal Ruins (aka Vaal Temple). During the course of your journey into Wraeclast, you will go back to a time before Atziri triggered the cataclysm that caused the destruction of the entire Vaal civilization.

During this period, more rooms will be accessible to you. This is also the time when you can meet the Royal Architect Xipocado, who is responsible for the architecture of the Vaal Temple itself.

Now, defeating the architect allows you to place special rooms in the temple. One of those rooms houses some unique items on display, which you can take for yourself. Running the Vaal Temple numerous times will give you much higher chances of obtaining the Fury of the King and the Amor Mandragora (along with other PoE 2 uniques) by just getting into this specific special room.

Use a Speedy Build

If your aim is just to farm the new unique items in Patch 0.4.0, then using a speedy build makes a lot of sense. That said, go for builds that utilize skills that hit multiple enemies at once. Some good contenders include the Lightning Arrow Deadeye, Essence Drain Contagion Lich, and Skeletal Storm Mage Infernalist, among others.

If you really want to play as the Druid in the latest PoE 2 expansion, then prioritize the Werewolf Form since it is the most balanced among his animal forms.

Now, if you have the means to do so, I highly recommend that you buy the Ranger Starter Gear, for example, to help you get into farming endgame maps and Vaal Ruins as quickly as possible.
