Game Guides , Path of Exile 2

Aside from the Druid class, there is a lot to be excited about in Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids. GGG has done a balancing pass on many unique items, buffing up those underutilized ones, while rebalancing the others.
Let me tell you, there are a bunch of underused unique items in PoE 2 that got massively buffed, and that is the topic of discussion for today’s article! I will go over each one so that you can somehow incorporate them into your build.
Because of the addition of Incursion 2.0, specifically the ability to “double-corrupt” items in the Locus of Corruption, you can expect that unique items in Patch 0.4.0 will be priced much higher than previous expansions. So, if you need the currency to buy these uniques, then don’t hesitate to go to our PoE 2 Store. We will be available during day one of the new league, so feel free to pay us a visit!
Overview of the Unique Item Buff Philosophy in PoE 2 (Patch 0.4.0)
Grinding Gear Games is a company that does not want its fans to be sad during the Holidays. This is probably the reason why most of the unique items in the game have received major buffs across the board. I am talking about huge increases in the offensive and defensive capabilities of certain uniques.
Of course, there are other items that have been nerfed as well. However, that is a topic for another day. For now, we’re going to stick with what the uniques that have truly stood out after being changed from mediocre to awesome in Patch 0.4.0!
We will explore these PoE 2 unique items in the next sections.
Most Significantly Buffed PoE 2 Unique Items
Svalinn

Old: (100-150)% Increased Armor, -(10-20)% to Maximum Block Chance.
New: (150-200)% Increased Armor, You Take (0-20)% of Damage from Blocked Hits.
Svalinn is already a competent unique shield. However, it is getting even better when Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids drops on December 12!
One of the things that I previously disliked about the Svalinn is that it reduced your maximum block chance by up to -20%. This is a pretty substantial downside because it influences the “maximum” block chance value, so essentially the total amount of block chance you’re going to get.
In Patch 0.4.0, that particular downside is no longer there! In fact, this unique shield got more awesome due to the fact that it now makes you take 0% of damage from blocked hits. If you got lucky and received the 0% roll, your survivability is definitely increased, especially against tougher content!
Because of the changes, you can expect Svalinn to cost upwards of 50 Divine Orbs in the endgame. If you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg, then you can just buy Svalinn from our PoE 2 Store!
The Adorned

Old: (0-100)% Increased Effect of Jewel Socket Passive Skills Containing Corrupted Magic Jewels.
New: (0-150)% Increased Effect of Jewel Socket Passive Skills Containing Corrupted Magic Jewels.
It looks like GGG really wants you to take multiple trips to the Vaal Ruins to corrupt your magic jewels. Why did I say such a thing? It is because of the buff to The Adorned. Let me explain why this is actually quite huge.
You see, double-corrupting a jewel can potentially add two implicit modifiers to the magic jewel. Since magic rarity jewels, by nature, only have a couple of explicit modifiers, gaining two more from the Locus of Corruption is a big deal!
That said, The Adorned improves upon that, which is why it is best used when you have at least three or four corrupted magic jewels with incredible mods.
Now, if you are going to use the newly buffed The Adorned jewel, you must allocate nodes on the passive tree to accommodate more jewel sockets. It should go without saying that you need to invest in some pretty high-end corrupted magic jewels as well.
Strugglescream

Old: Can Have 2 Additional Instilled Modifiers.
New: Can Have 3 Additional Instilled Modifiers.
If you are a fan of the original game, this next unique item that got massively buffed in Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids should be familiar to you. The Strugglescream is just PoE 2’s version of the Stranglegasp.
Anyway, the Strugglescream now lets you anoint (or enchant) three additional modifiers to it for a total of four (plus one comes from the normal limit of enchantment on an amulet). This means that you now have the means to get a few more notable passive skills from anywhere on the tree, so long as you have the necessary Liquid Emotions to instill them.
For example, you could instill Gem Enthusiast, Overwhelming Strike, Critical Exploit, and Struck Through, which are located at the bottom, left side, top, and right side of the passive tree, respectively.
Take note that the Strugglescream has a rare chance of dropping from the Simulacrum. Given that you can apply up to four enchantments to it, the Strugglescream could be a very expensive unique item in Patch 0.4.0.
Sine Aequo

Old: (40-60)% Increased Armor, Evasion, and Energy Shield, Enemies Immobilized by You Take 25% Less Damage.
New: (100-150)% Increased Armor, Evasion, and Energy Shield, Enemies Immobilized by You Take 20% More Damage.
The Arbiter of Ash is one of the pinnacle bosses that you can challenge in PoE 2, so it was baffling to the community why one of the unique items it drops was mediocre at best. Fortunately, that has changed in Patch 0.4.0!
I am talking about the Sine Aequo, of course. These unique gloves were odd back then because immobilizing an enemy reduced your damage against them by 25%. This was likely GGG’s way of balancing this unique item somehow, especially since equipping these gloves only required you to do a 50% build-up for the enemy to get heavy-stunned, frozen, or electrocuted.
However, that was too much of a downside, so thankfully, GGG has done away with that. Taking its place is a new modifier that makes immobilized enemies take 20% more damage instead!
That said, who can benefit from wearing the Sine Aequo? Well, I think that any Warrior build in PoE 2 can utilize these unique gloves to a great extent. The default Warrior skills are quite slow compared to the likes of Galvanic Shards or Lightning Arrow. So, being able to heavy-stun enemies more quickly with slow attacks is definitely a welcome improvement.
The Whispering Ice

Old:
- +(2-4) to Level of Cold Spell Skills
- (5-15)% Increased Intelligence
- 4% Increased Spell Damage per 10 Intelligence
- Inflict Elemental Exposure on Hit, Lowering Total Elemental Resistances by (20-30)%
New:
- +(5-7) to Level of All Cold Spell Skills
- (5-10)% Increased Intelligence
- 2% Increased Spell Damage per 10 Intelligence
- Inflict Elemental Exposure on Hit, Lowering Total Elemental Resistances by (50-60)%
The Whispering Ice got massively buffed in Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids. Although you might see a couple of balancing adjustments to its spell damage and intelligence boosts, you have to fixate on the fact that it now provides up to +7 to your cold spell skills! Mind you, this bonus affects all of your equipped cold spell skill gems, and not just the Icestorm ability that comes with this unique staff.
On top of that, the Elemental Exposure that is applied to enemies that are hit with your spells is actually a more empowered version, applying up to a 60% reduction in elemental resistance (instead of the usual 20%).
The newly buffed version of The Whispering Ice is best in the hands of the Stormweaver. This is because the Stormweaver’s “Multiplying Squalls” ascendancy node now increases the skill limit by two. This means that you can use Frost Bomb, Orb of Storms, or Firestorm twice in succession, allowing you to destroy whoever (or whatever) comes your way!
Cloak of Defiance

Old: 50% Increased Mana Regeneration Rate, 30% of Damage is Taken from Mana Before Life.
New: (50-100)% Increased Mana Regeneration Rate, 50% of Damage is Taken from Mana Before Life.
Mind Over Matter is one defensive keystone that squishy spellcasters can take in order to survive corrupted T16 maps in Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids. However, that is one less skill point, which could have been allocated somewhere else for a more offensive node instead.
If you want to regain that skill point but still get the benefits from MoM, then this next unique item is something that you will surely love! I am talking about the Cloak of Defiance!
In case you do not know, the Cloak of Defiance now rivals the Mind Over Matter keystone because it now has the same effect (minus the “50% Less Mana Recovery Rate). Yes, I said “rivals” because Cloak of Defiance and MoM do not stack with each other, so you can only use one.
That said, getting damaged by multiple enemies can deplete your mana pool quite easily. So to address that, GGG has opted to increase the mana regeneration rate of Cloak of Defiance as well! In Patch 0.4.0, this unique body armor can now roll up to 100% increased mana regen!
Stormweavers and Chronomancers can utilize Cloak of Defiance to explore the Vaal Ruins without fear! Besides that, any mana-stacking build can also find this unique body armor to be quite appealing to use.
Lightning Coil

Old: (20-40)% of Physical Damage from Hits Taken as Lightning Damage
New: (30-50)% of Physical Damage from hits Taken as Lightning Damage
In the previous PoE 2 expansion, the Lightning Coil was one of the least-used unique items in the game at an abysmal 0.1%. When you look at its stats, it’s not that bad, but it certainly could do better. GGG thinks so too, and that is why the company buffed up its unique effect, where it can now convert 50% of physical damage from hits as lightning damage.
You still need to address its lightning resistance penalty. However, that can be done easily by wearing pieces of gear and jewelry that have some lightning resistance mods.
While just about any class in Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids can use this unique body armor, I think that the Witch Hunter will wear it best. This is because Sorcery Ward, which is a protective barrier that absorbs elemental damage, can now do the same thing for physical and chaos damage. That means that the Galvanic Shards Witch Hunter build becomes even tanky in Patch 0.4.0!
Hyrri’s Ire

Old:
- (100-130)% Increased Evasion Rating
- Adds (13-20) to (21-31) Cold Damage to Attacks
- 25% Increased Chill Duration on Enemies
New:
- Gain (15-25)% of Damage as Extra Cold Damage, 25% Increased Freeze Duration on Enemies.
The last unique item that got massively buffed in Patch 0.4.0 is none other than Hyrri’s Ire. Just like the Lightning Coil, this unique body armor was only used by 0.4% of the population. However, I think that is about to change in The Fate of the Vaal League, primarily because it can now be utilized by more builds.
Why is that, you ask? Previously, Hyrri’s Ire was only meant for attack-based builds like the Ice Shot Deadeye due to the added cold damage to attacks. GGG probably felt that it was far too limiting, particularly because there aren’t a lot of attack skills that can deal cold damage in the game.
That is why the new and improved version of Hyrri’s Ire makes sense. Instead of locking the cold damage bonus only to attacks, Hyrri’s Ire now provides extra cold damage, which means that spellcasters that use cold-based spells can take advantage of this body armor too!
Additionally, Hyrri’s Ire now increases the freeze duration on enemies. Although getting enemies affected by Chill for a longer period is fine, freezing them for a couple more seconds is even better.

FAQ
Which PoE 2 Uniques Were Buffed the Most?
I would say The Whispering Ice, Strugglescream, and Hyrri’s Ire.
Are the Buffs Significant Enough to Change the Meta?
Yes. Strugglescream, for example, lets you instill four different notable passive skills on a single amulet. Besides that, The Adorned could significantly improve your damage, especially if you have the appropriate corrupted magic jewels.
Which Classes Benefit from These Buffs?
Warriors and cold-based builds.
Are the Buffed Uniques Easier or Harder to Farm Now?
No, the base drop chance is still the same. However, things can get pretty expensive when you double-corrupt them in the Vaal Ruins.
PoE 2 Buffed Uniques in Patch 0.4.0: Conclusion
Patch 0.4.0 brought many balancing changes, particularly to some least-used uniques. Some of the unique items that stood out are the Strugglescream, The Whispering Ice, and The Adorned. However, all of the uniques that we have discussed in this article are noteworthy in their own way.
Warriors can get their defensive prowess back thanks to newly improved The Adorned and Sine Aequo. Hyrri’s Ire is no longer reserved for attack-based builds that deal cold damage. This is because the extra cold damage can now work with cold-based spells like Comet and Frost Bomb as well.
